cw: long ass written part, alcohol and other substance abuse, reader is drunk for most of this, implied drugging, sexual assault (nonconsensual touching), violence, mentions of blood and injuries (if theres anything i missed, let me know)
there was a sinking feeling in your chest, whenever you would drink. one you hadn’t felt this intensely in months. maybe it was better this way, maybe you should have never allowed yourself to welcome the feeling back into your life. and yet, here you were hanging onto the cold, smooth railing your hands had grasped, whenever you had gotten here. wherever here was. your feet hung in the air, and you could feel a similar cold under the back of your thighs. a viciously addicting haze clouded every single of your senses, dulling out everything just enough, that you barely felt the next sip of liquid slowly burning down your throat. there was a comfort in the feeling, that you knew shouldn’t be there, but you couldn’t bring yourself to care, as you brought the bottle to your lips again.
you heard laughter. was it your own? you weren’t sure if you had felt any sound leave past your lips. another little giggle snuck beneath the dullness in your ears. this time you felt it scratch along the sides of your throat. without a conscious command of yours, you could feel the weight of your body shift. with a loose grip on the railing, the back of your head leaned backward. blood rushed to your face and whatever blurry images your eyes were seeing started spinning. a light breeze wafted through your hair, gently whipping strands of it in your face.
you leaned back even further, letting the wind embrace you fully. for a moment you felt like you were floating. until you weren’t anymore. you dropped back. and yet never felt your body hit the ground. there was a sudden pull. something, or maybe it was someone, tugged harshly at the fabric of your jacket and pulled you back. sounds tried passing by the fog that still clogged the path to your ears. a low voice muttered close against your ears.
“can’t have you passing out on me yet, babe”, a low voice said. hot breath flushed against your cheeks, as you barely made out the words. it was a voice you didn’t recognize or maybe you were too drunk to. either way you barely register what he – you were pretty sure it was a guy – said next.
“come on, let’s get you down from there.” warm hands were placed on your waist. they felt weird, clammy against your exposed skin. nails dug into flesh as you felt your body being pulled down. your feet hit the ground gently. you took a step and then another trying to shift your weight to the other foot. it buckled under you and sent you tumbling forward. the hands still firmly placed on your waist pulled you in before you even had the chance to fall flat on your face.
he took the bottle from your hand keeping his other hand on your waist. slowly letting his fingers traverse lower. you blinked once. twice. three times before his features became slightly less blurry before your eyes. it was dark as you continued blinking against what little light the lanterns on the side of the street offered. he stood close to you. close enough that you could feel his warm alcohol laced breath on your face when he exhaled after taking a gulp from the bottle. you had trouble making out his exact features, but you could tell, that you were nowhere near eye level with him. he was broad, too. a tightness settled in your throat. deep down, you knew this was a bad idea.
and yet when he guided the bottle to your lips, you let him. the hand on your waist moved to your lower back pulling you flush against him. the cold wind whipped against your face as his hot, wet lips crashed against your own. everything blurred together for you. his tongue forcing itself down your throat. his hands searing every patch of skin they touched. deep down, you knew you shouldn’t, but you let it all happen. as if being caged between this stranger and the cold metal of the railing were second nature to you.
his touch was rough as he slipped a hand under your shirt. his other had a firm grasp on your ass. he was whispering things to you, again. but you were way too out of it by now. your eyes fluttered and you felt yourself close to losing consciousness. maybe that was better. that way you didn’t need to feel every single press of his fingers digging into you. if you couldn’t feel it, then his touch wouldn’t be nauseating anymore. right?
his hand moved from your ass between your thighs, gripping hard enough to bruise. it didn’t hurt. or maybe it didn’t because your senses were dulled so much that you could barely feel anything at all. his hand reached up higher. he was barely grazing the fabric between your legs, before his touch abruptly stopped.
before you could even register what had happened, you heard a loud thud and a bone chilling crunch. with the man no longer supporting you, your body toppled backwards, hitting the railing behind you. there was another thud and another. something was moving in front of you, but it happened too fast for your barely opened eyes to fully understand. the man had been ripped from you and was now lying on the ground. another guy was on top of him. you could barely make out anything other than silhouettes, but you could see the movement of an arm being raised and brought down hard on the other guy’s face. over and over.
then he stopped moving. his head lifted until his eyes found you. the moment your eyes met his and the bright blue pierced into you, it was as if you had been shaken out of a dream. for a moment you were almost sober again. you saw every single line etched into dabi’s features. every wrinkle between his furrowed brows, as he scanned you. he didn’t look at the guy once as he cowered on the ground sputtering out blood and walked over to you in an instant. he didn’t touch you but held his arms out to catch you, if you were going to trip. your eyes were focused on his face, not even noticing, that he was gently guiding you away. when you passed the guy, he made sure to put his body between you. and even when you looked past him seeing the man’s face covered in blood and crooked nose, dabi gently placed a hand on your chin and turned your head away from it.
he had an arm hovering around you, as you made your way down to where his bike was parked. dabi prayed that he hadn’t been fined. he’d left his bike in the middle of the road after spotting you and that guy, but he’d rather get a ticket for it, than be at fault for what the guy could have done.
you stumbled along the path he guided you through. his hand hovered a good few inches above your skin. conscious not to breach the line he had drawn for himself. the two of you moved slow as he let you put one foot in front of the other. it’d be an understatement to say, that you were shaky on your feet. every other step he was worried he would have to stop you from falling flat on your face. when you finally, after what felt like an eternity, reached the steps down from weird little structure you had been coaxed onto, you stopped. part of him wondered how you had even gotten here in the first place, but given what he had interrupted, maybe it was better that he didn’t think about it too hard.
his eyes were fixed on you and how you refused to move. you looked up at him completely out of it. with your eyes glazed and your head almost hanging limp when you tilted it sideways. for the first time tonight, he was actually taking the time to look at your face. your mascara was smudged all over your eyes leaving black streaks almost up to your cheeks. his eyes flickered to your lips. the soft glittery color you wore sometimes was barely noticeable on your puffy lips. it made him sick to his stomach to see how it was smudged all over the lower half of your face. you were still looking at him, though he doubted you were actually registering anything with how foggy your mind had to be. you looked down the stairs and then back at him, almost as if, through your very limited communicative abilities, you were trying to tell him something.
“all right, come on you big baby”, he sighed before gently snaking his arm around your waist and hooking the other under your knees. he lifted you with ease and carried you down the stairs without once looking back at the guy, that had slowly regained enough consciousness to groan in pain. your body fell limp the second he had lifted you off the ground, as if it had cost you your last bit of strength to keep yourself on your feet. when your head hit the thick leather sleeve of his biker jacket and your eyes fluttered shut, he started to worry. with a gentle shake of his right arm, he nudged you awake again.
“gotta stay awake for me, princess.” his voice was low, but you heard every single word as clear as day. you felt a giggle escape your lips before you could stop it. some tiny part of him had hoped, you would fight him on the nickname. his heart sank a little when you didn’t. knowing that you would have under normal circumstances.
with a slow turn of your head, your eyes met his again. you couldn’t decipher the look that hid within them. the only thing you knew for certain, was that they were trained on you the entire time. even as he made his way down the stairs, his eyes did not leave you for a second.
heat rose to your face the longer you felt yourself looking back at him. if you were sober, maybe you would have had the braincells left to remind you to turn away from him, but you didn’t. instead, you did the next best thing.
“pretty…”
“hm?”
dabi was sure that he hadn’t heard that right. not only were you slurring your words, but you were also speaking quietly and pretty much muttering into the fabric of his shirt. you were still looking at him. staring like you could decipher the world’s mysteries in his eyes, if you only looked deeply enough. a low giggle escaped past your lips. “your eyes.” you muttered, still focused on them as if they’d run away if you broke eye contact even once. “they’re pretty.”
he could only shake his head in response. this was without a doubt the alcohol speaking for you. and still, though you were too drunk to notice anyway, he couldn’t stop the faintest tint of pink flushing his cheeks.
“that so?” he grinned at down at your flushed face in his arms. your cheeks were colored a deep shade of pink and he could feel the heat radiating from your face under his shirt.
“mhm.” you nodded, and he just shook his head again. in a way, he had to admit, you were cute, but the admittedly small responsible part in him, couldn’t see past the damage you had done to yourself.
it left him wondering. was all of this really because of what happened at your mother’s house? but it didn’t make much sense to him. why would you breakdown like that two weeks later? maybe she had texted you again, though in that case shigs would have known something was up. or maybe kai had done something else. the thought alone made him shudder so hard, that you shifted around in his arms to readjust yourself.
he carried you longer than he needed to. when you were already a long way from the stairs and halfway across the park to where his bike was, he still had you against his chest with his arms safely hooked under your body. originally, he had planned to let you down once you reached the bottom of the steps, but he figured you’d be home faster this way.
his bike was exactly where he’d left it – parked haphazardly in the middle of the road, but luckily without a fine. he gently set you down on the leather seat and moved to get his helmet out of the top case. he had just turned the key to unlock the top box, when he saw you lean back out of the corner of his eyes. within a second he was behind you, blocking your body with his own, so you wouldn’t drop headfirst into the harsh concrete. instead, the back of your head hit his chest as he bent his knees slightly to break your fall. his hands were firmly planted on the sides of your shoulders propping your body against his own, so you had some sort of stability to cling to. he had no fucking idea how to get you home on his bike without running the risk of losing you in the middle of the road. “fuck”, he breathed out.
even sober you wouldn’t have been able to stop the wave of heat that rushed through your face when his warm, hoarse voice rang right beside your ear. before you could stop yourself, you found your body leaning back into his touch. he always smelled warm, you thought. warm like the last embers of an open fire going out. warm like residue cigarette smoke, but in a good way. in a way that didn’t smell like home always did.
dabi kept holding you with one arm, while his other fished the helmet out of the box. unfortunately, he only had one, so he would just have to hope that there was no police out at this time of night. once he somewhat securely had propped the helmet next to you on the seat, he peeled the leather jacket off – eyes not once leaving you. just in case you decided to fall off the bike again. he draped the thick leather around you, and you let him slide your arms into the sleeves with very little resistance. all things considered you were a very calm drunk. though there may have been a different reason for why you were so sluggish and close to passing out. dabi banished the thought from his brain about as quickly as the images, that came with it. images of you and what that guy could have done, if he had been a second too late.
the jacket was warm. it almost burned against your arms that had been exposed to the night’s cool air for so long. you’d been pretty much numb to it until you felt the difference now with the warm leather enveloping you. he fiddled with the zipper for a second before pulling it all the way up to your chin. for only a blink of a moment his hands grazed the skin right below your cheek. you couldn’t tell if it was the alcohol in your veins or the way his touch ghosted over your skin just barely making contact that seared itself into you. you didn’t mind the way it felt. though you were pretty sure, that was just the alcohol talking, too.
he stood to your side now, toward the front of the bike. by the time you had registered through blurry, half lidded eyes that he was moving, he had already pulled the bike helmet over your head. you blinked a few times as you tried to adjust to the sudden darkness. only to give up after a few seconds and accept your fate. with a gentle tap to the side of your knee, dabi signaled you to move one leg over to the other side of the bike. when you didn’t move, he carefully hooked his fingers under your knee. cautious of any kind of flinch from you, he lifted it and gently let it fall on the other side of the bike. he swung his own leg over and sat in front of you; leaving as much space between you two as the limited space on the seat allowed. he quickly checked over his shoulder, whether you were somewhat safe back there. just from the way your upper body was slouching and your head tilted dangerously close to falling to either side, he figured that you would not be able to hold yourself up enough to be safe.
“can i see your hands real quick?”
the helmet bobbed up and down as you nodded. you were definitely an amusing drunk, dabi thought. once your arms were stretched out in front of him, he took the bits of the sleeves that dangled over the tips of your fingers and tied them into a knot. this way, even if you were to let go, your arms would technically still be wrapped around his torso and it should secure you a bit more.
“you good back there?”
“mhm.” the sound was heavily muffled by the helmet. dabi turned his head back to the road ahead of him and started up the bike. the loud revving of the engine startled you enough for your grip on dabi’s torso to tighten. through the thin shirt he had been wearing under his jacket, he felt each single finger dig into his skin. it wasn’t uncomfortable, though. even startled, your touch was gentler than any he’d known before.
for the entire drive your grip on him didn’t let up. no, you had even leaned your head on his back about five minutes in. dabi could only chuckle to himself, when he’d felt your heavy head fall right between his shoulder blades. at one point he had even caught himself driving a lot more cautiously – he was slowing down during sharp turns and overly conscious of how harshly he hit the brakes – so he wouldn’t startle you awake. by now he was pretty sure that you were at least not fully awake anymore.
you reached the driveway to tomura’s driveway around fifteen minutes after taking off. when he tugged the helmet off your head and your eyes stayed firmly shut, he felt affirmed in believing that you were asleep already. with you safely nestled in his arms, he rang for your brother to let him up.
seeing the way tomura’s eyes widened, only for a moment, when he saw you in dabi’s arms, formed a huge lump in his throat. something about the way he looked at you now, as he took you from dabi into his own arms and how he had gone about this entire situation had dabi believe that this hadn’t happened for the first time tonight. he was about to walk out the door to leave the two of you, when tomura stopped him in the doorway.
“didn’t you want to crash here tonight?”
dabi turned to look at him. “you sure?”
with everything that had happened tonight, he had assumed that tomura would have enough on his plate already. tomura just nodded, eyes flickering between his sister and dabi.
“couch’s all yours.”
dabi didn’t say anything else. he just slipped inside the place he knew about as well as his own by now. he wouldn’t have wanted to risk waking up shoto, or worse, his neighbors at 4 in the morning, so he appreciated crashing here whenever he had to stay out late. tomura left it at that and let him settle in for the night. his focus was on you for now. with a heavy sigh he nudged the door to your room open and set you down on your bed. within the second he let go of you, your head crashed into your pillow. before leaving you to sleep out this horrible night, he pulled your phone from his sweatpants’ pocket and set it down on your nightstand. he had put it on ‘do not disturb’ for you, so the calls from keigo and rumi wouldn’t freak you out first thing in the morning.
as he closed the door to your room his eyes fell on dabi who was lounging on the couch absentmindedly scrolling on his phone. when he circled around the living room and let himself fall on the couch beside him, he finally really looked at him. there were scrapes on his face, again, and bruises around his eye and along the collar of his shirt. tomura’s eyes flitted to his fingers still swiping on his phone. his knuckles were bruised and covered in dried blood. it felt good to know, that dabi got a few hits in.
“wasn’t him.” he didn’t bother looking up from his phone.
“huh?”
dabi sighed and set his phone on the coffee table. his hand motioned at his bruised face. “didn’t get these because of the guy. idiot couldn’t even get one hit in.” he scoffed, almost proud. that was all tomura needed to know, though.
“did i get you in trouble?”
the pause before dabi responded spoke more than his words ever could. both of them knew that and yet, he still tried.
“it’s okay.” he didn’t look him in the eyes. “just missed one race.”
tomura was about to say something when he was interrupted.
“seriously shigs, don’t worry about it.” dabi never really had reason to lie to him, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t severely downplaying things at times. “the black eye’s from the guy i beat earlier tonight.”
the words hung in the air for a while. neither of the two knew what to say; how to make the weight of tonight less heavy. until tomura broke the silence.
“you know, if you ever need the money–” “don’t.”
“but it wouldn’t be any trouble.”
“shigs”, dabi sank into the soft pillows of his friend’s couch. “appreciate it, but you know it’s always going to be no.”
“yeah, i know.”
the two of them dropped the conversation after that. they sat in silence for a bit before tomura got up to finally catch some sleep after all this. dabi stayed awake for a bit longer, letting his thoughts race in circles in his head. eventually, he passed out on the couch, too.
