XenoCAVE - Blog Posts

My sleep schedule is fucked up so lets talk XenoCAVE before I pass out

-Placeholder name for the cave world is Cavius, after the planet from Kirby Super Star. Surface is still just called the surface for now. You'd spend most of the game in Cavius, but the endgame's on the surface. Surface is at least somewhat dangerous to the people of Cavius since they wouldn't be used to that much light, along with the presence of strong monsters. Leaning towards the party not fighting a god with but there's gotta be some strong opponent up there, maybe the person/people who are responsible for the surface becoming dangerous?

-The Nopon are here, they are in every universe. As for new races, there's a mostly humanoid race but with some sort of extra feature just to make things a bit more interesting (first thought was little horns like Fiona from 3 but I don't know character design man I'm no artist). Also think some kind of bat people would be neat, fits with the cave setting along with being neat. Might be a fourth race in Cavius if I can get a good idea but this is fine for now. Unsure on if there's any sapient life on the surface though. I'm all for the Nopon having Canadian accents, unsure if the whole cast would be Canadian with different regional accents for the races or if the others would have completely different accents.

-As for the party, only have a few ideas for them. Starting trio consists of protag boy with red sword and his two friends, one guy and one girl, they're all young adults (18-25). Gotta make their dynamic distinct from the Colony 9 trios though (and protag boy distinct from other protagonists in the series). There's an older woman (40s) as a mentor type since I think we deserve more older women, a kid (~10) who gets roped into this, and a Nopon girl because we need a proper female Nopon party member (Nene's locked to a side game and you can't even control Manana). Probably room for one more permanent party member based on previous games but it's better to focus on these six first.

Oh I Might Need To Make This Real, I Can Already Imagine A Bana Equivalent That Sounds Like Chris McLean

Oh I might need to make this real, I can already imagine a Bana equivalent that sounds like Chris McLean Total Drama and it's incredible.

Thinking about the world for this Xenoblade idea. Initially I was thinking of an island world (either in a normal ocean or sky islands) but that could get too similar to Alrest. Then it hit me, cave world. People live underground in these giant cave systems. You can have funky glowing crystals and wildlife, lakes, lava caves, icy caves, weird magnetism stuff like Pokemon's Chargestone Cave, super dark areas, ruins, mines, there's plenty of variety for these caves. There's also the whole "why the fuck is everyone underground what's going on on the surface". Were they forced to go underground, and if so was it because of some natural disaster or the actions of other people? Is it dangerous on the surface? Do the cave dwellers even know the world above even exists? Lot that can be done here.

Haven't done much on the characters yet since I'd like to get the whole situation with the cave world and the surface first. Will probably have a starting trio like Shulk/Reyn/Fiora and Noah/Lanz/Eunie, trio of childhood friends. Mentor figure is also likely, might have a kid join the group, and of course there's got to be a Nopon in the group but I'm not sure what they'd do. 5-7 is the range for permanent party members in Xenoblade games so I don't want to get too carried away.

Aside from humans and Nopon (they are everywhere), there's probably other new races but I don't have any ideas yet. Another thing is that while the numbered games lean towards British accents with some American and Australian accents thrown in and X has mostly American accents, I'd like to think that the cast of this game would have their own accent(s) to help signify that this is it's own universe. Not sure what accent they'd have, I am unfortunately a dumb American.
