absolutely obsessed with the fact that tsukki works in a museum + is still in university post timeskip because it highly indicates that he absolutely will end up living a double life. personally I am of the persuasian that tsukki goes on to get a masters / eventual doctorate in history (and/or an adjacent field, like archeology, paleontology, anthropology, you get the vibes)

but like I imagine the fucking Sendai Frogs (or any of his volleyball friends) dont exactly enjoy chatting about 9th century kings or 12th century architecture so it just never comes up. except for when tsukki tells them he's going to be missing practice because he's flying to China to a few small villages with local churches and temples to study old medical records and put together a timeline of the opiod wars in less documented places and the rest of the Frogs are just like !!!!!!!!!!! you're doing what now????? and he's just like yeah its a government grant :/ but it'll be nice to get published in this journal and then all of his teammates go home and google him and find the half dozen articles he's published that high school students are citing in their research papers

but then when he's working in the archives and reading through old newspapers a coworker of his comes down and is like "hey kei would you be able to fill in for a docent that called in sick tomorrow? we just need someone to lead a few tours" and tsukki is like "sorry, I booked that time off. the d2 volleyball league starts tomorrow." and the coworker is just like. what?

eugene - physiotherapy (someone i know gives off major eugene energy and she wants to study physiotherapy)

also me, writing said fic:

as we draw near the release of the next issue here's my list of (not completely serious) sweet sixteen predictions:

jesse and nicholas fight that feels really brotherly even if they don't know yet. i'm saying hair-yanking, kicking shins, fingers in the face. they're playing fully unfair.

seiji gets benched and they put nicholas in instead of him (way back there was a panel about how the closer should never be replaced by the reserve....... foreshadowing perhaps?)

this leads to seiji complimenting nicholas and NOW we get nicholas realizing he has a crush too (this either spurs him on during the next bout or causes him to have a crisis)

seiji and marcus sweet moment where marcus compliments seiji and it actually means something to him because he was his idol as a kid

harvard gets to say fuck, aiden engages in more internal turmoil than normal

confirmation (as far as there has been the implication) that aiden and nate are exes and everything that comes with that

we discover whether robert coste knows about nicholas or not (my bet is on not) but jesse doesn't find out in this issue

we get some kind of insight on jesse's relationship with fencing (whether he's just a natural talent, it's just for the family, or is as obsessed with it as seiji, ect)

kyle somehow fucks shit up bad. or he has a really funny one liner. like either he's fundamental to the plot of this issue or he's just there to look back and forth between jesse and nick going "oh what the hell"

ok but seriously: harvard and marcel will probably speak during the tournament and aiden will fuck shit up either for himself or others, mayhaps along with someone actually getting him to talk

someone who's not a trusted adult discovers nicholas's relation to the costes (bobby, aiden, or kyle?) and it either gets out, so nick deals with the fallout of that, or they have the moral dilemma of telling someone (coach, robert, or perhaps nick himself)

williams/lewis crumbs lol

haiden kiss. for me specifically. it won't happen but i so wish that it would. and if it does happen it should give us insight on why aiden refuses to apply himself to fencing and harvard's relationship with being captain and responsibility, and they should be deeply troubled and shaken up by it

some more insight on nicholas's dynamic with his mom and maybe information he has about her and robert's relationship?

for the giggles: team finds out seiji never celebrated his 16th because he was in france, so they set up a little celebration for him (hence "sweet sixteen") (this is my favorite one out of all of these) (i have many emotions about seiji being in france, alone, for a year)

last but not least: someone gets carded at least once and someone yells at the refs (happens without fail at every team comp)

It's frustrating that you can come up with the plot of an entire fic in just a few seconds, but writing it all down can take anywhere from never to forever.

Kou's death

He died as the selfless idiot he is, but most of the fandom is missing a part. I've seen so many people talk about Teru and Akane seeing his dead body down the well, but nobody who said this:

He looks comforted by the lightning, some kind of wicked comfort.

"My brother's lightning…" he doesn't look like he feels betrayed, at all.

He was trying to kill Nene, one of his best friends, and he never would've been able to forgive himself if he succeeded. He's glad his BROTHER stopped him, that he was the one to wipe him away from the living world, even tho it was an accident

He finally understands what Hanako and Mitsuba meant by saying they want HIM, someone they trust, to exorcise them. It's hard to imagine as a living person, but as a dangerous supernatural it's as clear as day

What was Kou's best departure, was Teru's worst goodbye

I dont know how to explain why this is important

But let's not forget that Parkour Civilization is a meritocracy. A socialist autocratic meritocracy.

I feel people don't dwell on this fact enough, opting to just focus on the capitalist allegories, which is awesome bc the allegory is strong and well made, but the literal government seperate from allegory is ALSO very well made and unique, i mean I've never seen a fictional government quite like it, and it's impressive.

People often struggle to conceive the thought of another government or societal idea, and Evbo managed to make an entire government and social norm completely different from any of our own.

Like, let's break this government (or lack of) down.

Parkour Civilization has a sole and all-powerful ruler, The Champion. Which makes the society autocratic with a dictator.

The "businesses" ( housing stores, buying food and blocks, etc. ) are collectivley owned, not belonging to a single person but rather the community. Especially in higher layers, people receive as much as they give to their society. If they work, they get food, they do extra tasks, they get blocks. It's essentially a Marxist Leninist socialist society, but one that's heavily affected by the meritocracy, which can make it seem more capitalist leaning.

Speaking of Meritocratic society, people often mistake the meritocratic aspects as being outright capitalistic, like the social hierarchies and needing to parkour for basic necessities. HOWEVER this is because the society is structured based on your merits in parkour, those with a higher skill level are placed higher in the social chain. Thats why the Parkour Champion is a dictator, because they're the person who is THE BEST at parkour, making them the most capable to lead society according to meritocracy.

In any case, the fact that people are forced to parkour ALL the time is pretty understandable, considering this government is based on merit. They're encouraging people to show off and practice their parkour because their skill level is the only thing to get them anywhere in society. Based on their merits, they get their bare essentials, and if they have particularly good skill levels, they can rank up in society and have access to better resources.

People also always talk about how Evbo didn't make food and resources accesable for free without parkour, which is kind of where the capitalist lens takes over because those things ARE free. There isn't a system of currency in Parkour Civilization. it's all just MERITS. The fact they can die from parkour and the fact they use language like "buy" and "sell" makes it seem capitalistic, but they dont work and receive currency. The currency is infinite as long as their SKILL SET allows it. People had to worry about the consequence of dying from parkour, which is what made it scarce and less accesable, people werent willing to try. Evbo, however, gave them the ability to try again without consequence, which pretty much DOES make everything free, as free as it gets. They have infinite "currency" based on their skills, and theres no consequence for failing or trying again.

I also feel that when people beg Evbo or the future generations to turn Parkour Civilization into more of a communist society, they're completely ignoring the worldbuilding. That is an insane leap to make, from a society based on parkour abilities to having nothing to do with parkour? "Well, they can still parkour!" They could, but you'd be removing the vitality of it completely. I mean, imagine asking the states to become fully communist? It's an insane change that their society would never make, and thats not the end goal. Society can be functional and good without our interpretation of a utopic government because every society is different.

I love the government in Parkour Civilization. Please hear this. And ask me questions or talk to me about it.

Honestly what shook me is not even the fact that Kou is dead, like I assume we will get him back eventually, him and Mitsuba are part of the main cast after all and I don't think they would be killed off permanently like that - Kou's death is there to probably move Teru's character a lil bit and to make a lasting impression on him - if he knows that Hanako killed his brother in another timeline, how will he treat him once they're back? How will he react to Kou being back to life? Teru and Kou haven't really resolved their conflicts properly yet I think, and now that Teru witnessed his younger brother dead I'm sure it'll leave a lasting impression and will push the plot forward in interesting ways.

But... That's not what terrified me and made me shaken to my core.

It's the fact that AidaIro weren't scared to go full blown horror mode okay. Like the way this chapter is drawn is so clever? And so HORRIFYING once you realize some things.

(trigger warning bc it's grim as hell but I have to talk about this, I've been thinking about this all day)

We don't really see what Teru and Akane see but we can safely assume that the corpses of our two freshly deceased characters are in a horrible shape because Akane straight up gags a little.

Of course we can assume that it's because they see their friends' dead corpses (well in Teru's case it's literally his younger brother's corpse which is traumatizing as heck), but one of the pictures on the previous pages makes me think that these corpses may be in ... A horrible condition.

Remember when Kou was telling Nene about how Amane is killing people?

He has an axe that seems to be covered in a little bit of blood.

There's a high chance that he killed them with that weapon and chopped them into pieces. Like. That's so grim okay. If their bodies were intact then I think they would have shown us because they weren't scared to show us corpses before (like when Nene had her time moved forward or the zombie ladies in that one chapter). Obviously he also has these tentacles, but then why hold an axe? And judging by Akane's reaction Kou and Mitsuba have to be really, really messed up.

I don't know I genuinely didn't expect this level of horror from this comic - it's all so subtle but the horror is there. And it works so well too - we don't REALLY know what state they're in, but we see the reaction of other characters to it - and that's way more scary than anything AidaIro could've ever drawn, because our mind is filling in the gaps.

It's a fantastic chapter, but it's also deeply, deeply disturbing. Great job, AidaIro. Did not expect that at all.
