Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.

I am American, so it maybe a disconnect but for me when I think of jkr, I don’t first think of the badness going on. I think of the good that I grew up with that has nothing to do with her as an actual entity, like the Christmas me and my siblings got the first three books and all I could think was that would distract us from each other. I’m not agreeing with her, absolutely not. I’m just wondering why you want to spread more hate when they seem to have a handle on it?

the way that jkr and her supporters have weaponized her hatred of trans people so that everyone else looks away from her bigotry, her racism, her misogyny, her antisemitism, her labeling gay men with aids as pedophiles, her anti autistic statements, her fucking imperialistic colonizing british beliefs is hilariously telling. not only do yall fucks hate trans people; you hate everyone who doesnt live up to the white supremist perfect ideal that she raised you to believe with her books. fuck jkr fuck her fans.

My queers, we really need to put the "no men" thing away. Men are not inherently bad. There are queer men. There are questioning men. There's men that are just plain cool. Denying these men a space at our table is not helping - except the TERFs. I just came off the back of reading a transphobe gleeful rant about the need to have pride without men - They of course mean me. This kind of stuff is damaging to me and I really need us all to take a step back and maybe kill this "men dni, men not allowed" stuff. What you mean is "no men who are going to do mean stuff to me." And frankly those men won't give a shit about that kind of boundary.

But I promise you there's a fleet of good honest men who will see that and be sad they're not allowed in your version of queer spaces.
