Liking a popular ship in a fandom but not in an specifically romantic way is so difficult because you will almost never find fan content that fits your interpretation of the relationship. No they don't kiss but they are deeply and are irrevocably tied to each other. They can't live without one another. The devotion they have to each other transcends space, time and any traditional relationship labels.

But *sighhhh* I'll read fics where they date I guess...

2 other things i really love from this translation of finrod song battle!!!

1) the use of "a lo lejos" (far away) to describe nargothrond, and in the next line the use of "mucho más lejos" (much farther away) to describe the western sea. it feels to me like an emphasis on how far from home finrod is in this moment. its very bittersweet to me

2) "EL VIENTO SE LAMENTA" FOR "THE WIND WAILS." ALSJAKDHSHJAH. ok let me explain. this is the first phrase following the description of the kinslaying at alqualondë. yes lamentarse can technically be translated as to wail but it also has an obvious connection to lament, regret, grief, and so on. much more powerful i think in this context (probably not intentional but i could also connect this to manwë mourning the fall of the noldor and the slaying of the teleri...... just saying)

I honestly have no concrete opinion right now, I like letting all versions exist simultaneously for the most part. But other than the usual son or Fingon or Orodreth, some others I've heard, ranked on outlandishness:

Son of Caranthir (sometimes +Haleth)

A random kid Círdan found in the trash and said "yeah, I can work with this"

Actually Círdan's kid somehow, not Noldorin at all, they're running a con

Either Eluréd or Elurín in disguise. Or both depending on the day.

Having a lifetime love of Elrond means that, of course, I have a keen interest in the characters around him. Perhaps the easiest character to love, simply because of the lack of textual evidence of her and so as a reader your imagination can go wild, is Celebrian.

I really like this, I once explained QPRs as looking at the rules for established relationship types and saying "No, we don't like those," and then building your own relationship, taking pieces you like, leaving what you don't, and even adding your own stuff if you want, to make a new thing that works for you.

i keep seeing misinformation about this, so: queerplatonic relationships do not have a set definition. the name comes from the idea that it's "queering" the platonic relationship, tailoring it to the individual relationships' own desires. it isn't necessarily romance lite, but it also isn't necessarily whatever definition you want to impose on it. the point of queering the platonic relationship is to break away from strict allonormative views on friendship, romance, and sex, not to make a new categorical box to fit in.

the answer to "what is a qpr?" is "whatever you want it to be." sometimes that is romance lite. sometimes it's a deeply committed friendship. sometimes it's friends who have a sexual relationship. sometimes it's based on an entirely different mode of attraction. sometimes it's fluid and impossible to put into words. it's whatever you want it to be. it's queer.

i cannot understate how much i adore what andor has done for mon mothma. the way this show has taken someone who before this was mostly neglected to small supporting roles, and turned her into one of the most layered, complex and tragic characters in all of star wars has absolutely floured me, not to mention how BRILLIANT genevieve o’reilly’s performance has been too 🙏
