I am trying to write a post and yet nothing is coming to me. I don't think there is anything left to be said. Massacres-food shortages-polio epidemic of Gaza, I have talked about it all in an effort to fundraise for my friend Siraj Abudayeh ( @siraj2024 ). Mostly because this is what his life has come to, despite not having any say in it at all. A settler colony willed to destroy Gaza and because of that for almost a year, Siraj and his family are:
having to live in a tent, where there is no relief from either heat, cold or rain
where sand mites and insects keep pestering the family all day long
causing a breakout of infections amongst Siraj’s sons, and putting the rest of their cousins at risk
since right now all of Siraj’s extended relatives ( 23 family members) are currently living with him after being displaced in an IOF attack
I have talked about this and more. I have talked about how every day Siraj has to take risks and go to Deir al-Balah just to get a steady hotspot connection so that he may campaign for his fundraiser and how after all this he gets harassed online because he is a journalist who gives us his daily updates. Beyond this I do not know what else to say to you so that you may donate to Siraj and help him cross this last lap of his fundraiser.
Recently Siraj posted an update about the massacre at al-Mawasi camp and it hits you hard when you realize that this camp is just 2 km away from Siraj’s own. Everyday when he sends me a message, I breathe a sigh of relief because after all these months- from our first tentative hellos to now when we crack jokes after a machine translated chat goes wrong, there is always a fear that maybe this might just be our last interaction. I know these thoughts have nothing to do with the fundraiser in itself, but my point is, as a friend, Siraj has requested that I help him reach 82k and right now this is all I can do to help him. So please donate even if it is $3 USD ( $5 CAD). The fundraiser has trickled to almost a crawl and this makes Siraj worry. At least the gfm reaching its goal would be one less burden on him. He has fought so hard for this, please do not let him down now.
Please donate and get Siraj to his goal by this Monday. You got him this far, do not abandon him now.

Something that I don't get? Why do some people in the fandom genuinely believe that Kalim's parents are good hearted balls of sunshine exactly like him? I'm not talking about ENG Only people. That could be explained by simple ignorance thanks to the ENG version censoring so much about Jamil and Kalim's backstory. I'm talking about people who are familiar with the JP version and STILL honestly believe that. In my eyes, the canon clearly points at the exact opposite being true, at least in regards to Kalim's father, and Kalim is simply just an unreliable narrator, who is dissociating and living in denial to stay sane. To be more brief, I think Kalim's father is an off screen villain.
There are vignettes where Jamil and Riddle say that one of Kalim's family members poisoned him for him to immediately go into complete denial. Kalim's voice actor even said that part of the reason why Kalim is so generous is because he believes that every day could be his last. (I also suspect it could also be him subconsciously giving people their heart desires to make others stay in his good graces to ward off any similar attempts on his life.) That's a sign that he comes from a super toxic household, and his parents are just giving him expensive gifts to make him happy.
His father also: uses child labour, forces a fucking child to be a poison tester, possibly beats the Vipers when they displease him according to the JP version (the line could be taken a few different ways) and it's VERY heavily implied that he has a harem in the JP version. No one who is genuinely a good person would do any of those things!
Let's face it. There is no such thing as an ethical billionaire. People who become that wealthy always so by crushing a few heads to get to the top. The Asims are no exception.
The fact that his father is involved in politics makes him even worse. If he rubs elbows with the royals there, he could very well be like Jafar and manipulating the sultan of his country in the worst way possible.
That's pretty much my read of it, I didn't know people thought differently.

I was listening to "No One Mourns The Wicked". I thought of something. Malleus would be a good fit for Elphaba character wise in a fandom fusion for obvious reasons. But someone else who fits the "No One Mourns The Wicked" song specifically is Kalim.
I genuinely believe that Kalim is an unreliable narrator and his family is rotten to the core. There are various instances in the main story, the events and vignettes where Kalim is shown to either flat out deny or overlook the more troubling aspects of his family. The references to poison attempts, frequent kidnappings, use of child labour, highly questionable treatment of their employees (like the Vipers), rampant animal abuse (since Kalim said during the Playful Land event that they keep animals like elephants, orcas and dolphins caged up or in small tanks on property, which is well documented to harm them both psychically and psychologically), his father bribing Crowley to allow his son to attend NRC and the strongly implied presence of a harem in the JP version are massive red flags that something far darker is at play behind Kalim’s idealized image of his family.
The fact that Kalim’s father is involved in politics makes him even more suspect. It's completely possible that he's manipulating the Sultan to make his family richer like Jafar in the movie. Or, worse yet, like Muskrat is right now.
Due to these factors, I think the average person from the country views the Asims like how people view evil American politicians. They see them as evil and the source of trouble and discord in their lives, being out of touch due to their wealth and power. I imagine that there could be a large subsect of people who would CELEBRATE if one of them died, including Kalim himself.
Deep down, I think that's something Kalim actually fears. That hardly anyone would care if one of those poison attempts did him in and would be glad that he died. It would explain why he's so generous. He's doing that because he's trying to win other's favour in order to prevent that from happening.
I was following up until the last sentence.
Thank you for your take.
