Yes, today is Rosh Hashana LaBehemot
Rosh Hashanah LaBehemot is the βNew Years for Domesticated Animals.β During the days of the temple it was a day for shepherds to determine which of their animals were to be tithed. In modern times the festival has been revived to raise awareness for animal welfare, and for the mitzvah of tza'ar ba'alei chayim β to avoid the suffering of living creatures.
Today is also Rosh Chodesh Elul
Rosh Chodesh is a minor holiday observed at the start of each month! Holidays to anticipate in Elul: Minor Holidays: Rosh Hashanah LaBehemot on 1 Elul Erev Rosh Hashanah on 29 Elul
Hi I am not a Jew and was wondering why you censor the word G-d like this? Additionally do you do this when speaking also and how does that work then? And if you do censor when speaking then what do you say instead of 'oh my god' or other such exclamations?
(I swear I read about this on another post but I forgot π )
Hope you don't mind such a stupid question lol. Please take care, may the hostages return safely soon πππ
hi! idk the specifications for it but i know that weβre not supposed to write out the name of gd (any of them, and especially tetragrammaton) and some jews, like myself, take it to the level of omitting the βoβ to maintain the respect of not writing gds name. like most things with jews, this isnβt true for everyone and there a great many jews who write gd with the βoβ
personally iβm too lazy for the dash so i write gd and assume people will get it through context. i only started doing this a few years ago and i found it made me more aware of how i relate to gd in the religious sense despite my not being particularly observant.
if anyones got better explanations or wants to share why they spell gd the way they do please do so! i love opinions! the more the merrier!
I found this gif and had to add audio to it

I don't think people on this website understand what "you should love jewish people more than you hate nazis" means
do you hate nazis because they're fun to hate on and easy to ratio? or because of the material harm they have caused, are causing, and will continue to cause? when you see a nazi, do you see an acceptable target? or do you see an active threat? what do you do to help jewish people outside of these situations? anything at all? do you have positive views on judaism? do you try to better yourself by listening to jewish voices on topics of bigotry?
I'm not going to complain about a nazi getting punched for being a nazi, but the issue isn't as simple as just punching nazis. you need to love jewish people more than you hate nazis if you want to address the root causes of antisemitism
love is the most important thing ever
Realizing that the majority of leftists I know would probably ditch me if they knew how many of the prayers I recite simply include the word βIsraelβ
When people ask me why Iβm converting to Judaism, a year into the entire process of it all, I just mumble βI dunno, just feels like Iβve always been here, been home.β
Then I pause and consider for a minute-
βBut mostly because of the challah.β
