Heyy beautifuls! So as you’ve probably guessed this is a post about a few tips, that I personally feel are useful to help you get through university / college with minimal disasters and/or break downs! So lets get to it!
1. Get to know what kind of learning/teaching style suits you best. This is actually super important in the long run. Get to know what methods help you study best, do flash cards help you more than mind maps? Do you learn best when someone tells you what to do? Are you more hands on than auditory? Figuring out what methods help you learn is honestly the first step to everything else. During my first semester i wasted sooo much time trying to do everything, and in the end It didn’t benefit me at all, this semester flash cards are my best friend.
2. Write out your notes - When you write notes out make sure you word them in your own words its more beneficial that way. By doing this you’re reading, analyzing, and summarizing the notes and the action itself helps you recall information easier.
3. ATTEND CLASS - Do it. (insert Shia labeouf gif) I mean it. Go. to. class. In the beginning of my first semester I skipped quite often and I thought I’d teach myself but I always got lazy My marks were awful, so I started attending class and I learnt so much more than I wouldve from just reading the notes, some times your profs will give you hints on what will be on your exam, or they’ll give you extra information. Honestly go to class
4. Mental Health before Education - Okay I know I just told you guys to never skip class, but the truth is youre going to have days where getting out of bed is nearly impossible. Straight up guys there will be days where your brain wants to just shut down, it’s over worked and over stressed, and that’s no good at all. You wanna avoid burn out at ALL costs. If you need a day just for yourself take it. But do not confuse this with procrastination, theres being lazy and theres being exhausted. If you want to curl up in a ball and cry then I highly suggest taking the day off. Just make sure that you’re not going to miss anything major or something important, otherwise you’ll be more stressed than you were a few days ago. This brings me to my next point,
5. Make friends with your class mates - I know It’s super intimidating, (especially if youre socially awkward like me) but they don’t bite, and honestly they probably want to have someone in the class to know as well (the sentence sounds awkward but you know what I mean) Make two friends in each class, this way if you’re going to miss a class and one happens to miss a class too, then you have the other one to help you. It’s also good if you end up staying late at school and you have to bus home, if you see someone you know TALK TO THEM it’s so much safer for the both of you
6. Do NOT procrastinate - this is pretty self explanatory, a way around this that I found is super useful is the 2 minute rule, I forgot which account recommended it but I seen it on tumblr and gave it a go, So basically if you’re feeling lazy tell yourself to do the task for 2 minutes, when you do this you’ll find that you’ll continue doing the task for far more than just 2 mins and usually I end up completing the tasks at hand.
7. What to have on you at ALL times
- A phone charger: the last thing you want is to be bussing home at night and your phone dying
- Tissues: if you’re in a lecture and your nose starts to run this is essential, because 10 times out of 10 your prof’s wont have a box of kleenex in the room, and if youre sitting in the middle of a row it can be very distrupting to those around you when you have to get up and maneuver through a sea of students, also if you leave and come back you could’ve potentially missed some very important notes
- Lotion: ya girl gets ashy, especially when its cold out, so this is a life saver in my opinion
- Sanitizer: you don’t know where people’s hands have been, trusttt. I once seen a girl walk out of a bathroom stall eating a bagel and licking her fingers and she didn’t bother to wash them :)
- Hair ties: if you wear your hair down on a day where you have a lab, 8 times out of 10 the lab instructor will ask you to tie it, especially if you have long hair, so this is an easier fix then tying your hair with a rubber band (ouch)
- Laptop Charger: major key
- Change: keep enough spare change on you for 2 bus rides, because if you forget your transit pass, or you lose it, you’ll have a back up.
8. Invest in a water bottle- Honestly campus is so big that you do alot of running around throughout the day, especially if your classes are a buildings apart, you WILL get thristy. It’s very important to stay hydrated, but Everything on campus is over priced, a bottle of water at my university can cost me $3, and you may be thinking ‘$3 isnt much’ but believe me it adds up.
9. BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH- Pack yourself a healthy lunch that will fill you, and pack lots of snacks. This not only saved you soo much money, but it also helps you avoid the dreaded freshman 15. Yeah it’s nice to buy lunch once in a while but not every day. Take my word on this. Ideas on what to pack for lunch would be a sandwich or a salad with some kind of protein, a cheese string, a few granola bars (if they contain peanuts be cautious of people who have allergies), apple slices with peanut butter or nutella, Home made trail mix ( its muchhh cheaper to buy a giant bag of almonds and a big bag of chocolate chips that will last you quite a while, and this way you can include more chocolate chips if you want, or mix it up with whatever you want in it), berries, yogurt, etc. It depends on you and your preferences but these are just suggestions
10. Dont take early morning classes- If youre a morning person by all means go for it, but if you don’t live in residency or near campus, it can take some time to get to class and you have to factor in traffic and getting ready, you’re going to have to wake up pretty early, and for some people - like me - chances are you’re going to be so so tired and that could affect how well you pay attention in your classes throughout the day or if you even attend them. In university you need as much sleep as you can get, trust me.
(this post is a lot longer than anticipated)
11. Sleep early- Try to get 8 hours a night, if you can’t do that but want to wake up not feeling groggy and exhausted I suggest using http://sleepyti.me/ it helps you determine which times you should sleep if you have to be up at a certain time and don’t want to feel gross when you wake up
12. No one minds that you’re super dressed up or super dressed down - everyones at school to learn, no one cares if you wore the same sweater for the whole month, or if you have a mustard stain on your shirt, no ones judging you, lowkey they’re probably jealous of how comfy you are. However i suggest to avoid super comfy clothes especially on days where you’re tired because It only adds on to the urge to nap.
13. BUDGET - Buy the used textbooks, use coupons, ask if places give student discounts (if anyone would like a list of places that offer student discounts I’d be happy to make a post for that) do you really need that pair of heels? but seriously guys save your money, you’ll thank yourself in the long run.
14. Go to the office hours (!!!) - Your prof’s have these times scheduled specifically to help students, if you need help go to the office hours there’s no shame in asking questions or asking for help, your profs want you to pass, they want you to succeed I promise. Also if you go to office hours often you can bond with your professors and that can honestly be a great aid.
15. Have fun- Take advantage of all the services your school offers, you’re paying for them anyways, might as well utilize them. Go to the seminars they offer you can learn quite a lot of interesting things, go to the events, go watch a sports game and cheer on your fellow class mates, make time for plans. Part of uni/college is finding out who you are, it’s an environment that supports growth, so allow yourself to grow and enjoy yourself.
16. It’s okay to switch out of your program- If you decide teaching elementary kids isn’t for you and instead want to do theatre or become a civil engineer, thats OK. If you want to switch your Major from psych to bio thats OK. as long as you’ll be satisfied with what you end up doing its OK
Hopefully this helped you guys a little bit, if you’d like to know more drop me an ask or a message *:・゚✧ xoxo *:・゚✧

My sorta bullet journal. Have been sporadically experimenting with it ever since late last year and hopefully I’m closer in getting an outline I like and could use.
Hii! I love your posts. I just wanted to ask in your latest post, how to get that online clock (which is on your laptop screen).
hello hello, thanks so much!!!
my screensaver is a download from this website !! it’s only available for Mac computers - I’m not sure how to download it for other computers :/
Hello! I'm in AP Bio as well and my teacher is very bad at teaching. I have an A in the class but I don't think I've learned much at all! When I try to read the textbook it's very overwhelming. Do you have any advice on learning it on my own and where to take good notes from? How do you personally study for bio?
Hi anon! I was kinda in that situation earlier this year! My advice is to go to YouTube and find the Crash Course channel. There, you can find a huge range of videos on a lot of topics! For biology, I like to go to the “Biology” playlist and find the video that pertains the the chapter. Sometimes there isn’t a corresponding video :/ Sometimes the “Anatomy and Physiology” playlist has a related video or two.
I know that the textbook is overwhelming, but my teacher gives us these reading guides that go through the key parts of the chapter and those really help if you actually read through the chapter. I say actually read because you kind find the answers online as well lol. If that interests you, maybe try going through those slowly?
I hope that helps you, Anon!! Let me know if you need any help personally!
How To Take Lecture Notes
The professors sometimes ask for students to print out lecture slides or take notes before class, so here are some ideas on what to do before, during, and after the lecture. Of course, these don’t have to be followed exactly as written, so you can use what works best for you. :)
We have our whole lives ahead of us and all I want to do is take a nap.

here are my 11 questions to you all. of course, only answer a question if you’re comfortable doing so :)
1. what is your favorite study snack or drink?
2. what is your favorite way to treat yourself after doing something you’re proud of?
3. do you have siblings?
4. what is your least favorite subject in school and why?
5. do you have a mentor or someone you look up to in terms of success in life?
6. if you’re in high school, what college would you like to go to? if you’re in college where do you go?
7. what is your dream vacation and who would you go with?
8. in your opinion, what is your greatest accomplishment of 2015?
9. what is your favorite school supply?
10. do you watch any tv shows? if so, which one is your favorite?
11. if you listen to music while studying, what do you typically listen to?
okay! here are my answers!!
1. what year are you?
I am a junior in high school, so 11th grade.
2. what has been your favorite song lately?
oh boy. well I was recently obsessed with The Feeling by Justin Bieber and Halsey. it makes me feel mystical lol. I’m not exactly obsessed with any songs at the moment
3. what is your favorite app for study oriented things or organization
I don’t really use any apps for studying. if anything, I used quizlet or google classroom to access materials from my teachers because that is what my school is affiliated with. I do recommend a flash card app called memrise! it’s different from quizlet and I really like it
4. do you blog anywhere else?
yes I do. I have a more fandom related blog @fandomgirling. but I don’t post my own things on that, just reblog stuff
5. do you collect anything random or strange?
no I do not. but I do hoard pens :)
6. what is your favorite pass-time?
mmm probably watching tv or laying in bed haha I’m super lazy. in the summer I like to read books, particularly angsty young adult romances
7. what was the most interesting book you read in 2015?
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. great book that hides nothing about racially prejudice that used to be incredible prominent in the United States and what Angelou faced growing up. it’s a relatively short read and definitely worth it.
8. what is the most interesting place you’ve been to?
I would say India. my family is from there so I’ve been there about seven times and it’s just so different from the US but I like it there. my favorite place I’ve been to on the other hand is New York City
9. if you were to only give one piece of advice to a friend struggling with stress, what would it be?
go to your happy place for a little bit. I find that if I take my mind off things that I’m stressed about for a little bit, I find a better way to approach the problem when I face it again. also by going to my happy place, I remember that life will get better and all I have to do is keep that in mind and work for it. you can do it!!
10. where do you usually by school supplies from?
staples!
11. who is your favorite character and why?
this is such a hard question omg! I’m not going to be able to pick one (sorry :/) so it’s a three-way tie between Oliver Queen (Arrow), Will Herondale (The Infernal Devices), and Percy Jackson (Percy Jackson and the Olympians). I love these characters because they all have rough back stories and/or are going through incredibly difficult situations we could only think about dealing with, and while they deal with their broken selves, they still love and care for others with everything they have. Oliver is selfless as heck and is willing to die/sell his humanity to save and protect his friends and family, Will gives up the woman he loves so deeply so his dying friend can love her instead, and Percy’s fatal flaw is his loyalty to friends and family. *swoon* anyways that was a little long but I love them all.
thanks again for tagging my and I hope you enjoy answering my questions!!

Here are a list of 10, free apps that can help you organize, study, and strive for higher grades
1.) Focus Now This app has really helped me focus and stay on task. It helps eliminate your bad habits and encourages you to develop desirable habits instead. By using a timer, this app forces you to put down your phone in the allotted time you’ve requested while you plant a plant/tree in your farm. If you go on your phone, you kill the plant. This habit building game sounds slightly cheesy, but it really does help and I definitely recommend this app. I also know Focus Timer is a good habit developer app as well that tracks your progress and the hours you have spent studying.
2.) Maths Alarm Clock If you are not a morning person like me and you have a fairly difficult time to get up, this app is perfect. With its super annoying alarm, it demands you to do a math problem in order for the alarm to stop. This way, your brain wakes up and plus you get extra practice at math! You will hate this app in the morning, but it gets the job done and that’s what matters.
3.) Calculator # I always forget my calculator in my locker and this app has saved my math grade. It provides users a no cost, scientific calculator. You honestly cant go wrong with this.
4.) Flashcards+ Being unorganized ( in the process of fixing this ), I tend to lose my flashcards. When upcoming, cumulative tests come up, this bites me in the butt. This app allows people to create flashcard decks and allows you to customize them by inserting pictures which can really help visual learners. Plus, typing out flashcards take little amount of time in comparison to hand writing them. However, if you find that you learn more effectively by writing down things, then stick with that! Just make sure you don’t lose the notecards.
5.) Quizlet This app is slightly similar to Flashcards +1, but it introduces more features.Unlike Flashcards+, you can play games on the topic you are studying, making it more fun to learn. You can also share and find notecards with your peers.
6.) Khan Academy The founder of Khan Academy literally deserves 3841481 medals. With thousands of videos dedicated towards chemistry, math, biology, physics, etc, Khan Academy has helped me understand so many concepts that I could not grasp. He explains the concepts in great detail while making it easy to understand and follow and I can’t even put to words on how much I love Khan Academy.
7.) Photo Math If you’re stumped on a math problem in your textbook, take a picture of the math problem you are stuck on and Photo Math will grant you a step by step guidance on how to get the answer. DON’T JUST COPY DOWN THE STEPS, ACTUALLY KNOW WHY AND HOW THEY GOT TO THE ANSWER. If you just copy it down, then you did not learn anything and you’ll get the problem wrong again when it appears on a test and that is not very ideal.
8.) Gojimo Gojimp provides thousands of practice AP tests, SAT Test Preps, ACT Test Preps, and tons of other tests for students! AND ITS FREE!! The app supplies free quizzes that give detailed, thorough explanations too.
9.) Vocabulary Builder from Magoosh If you’re interested in expanding your vocabulary, you will love this app. Vocabulary Builder is great for preparing for the SATS!
10.) Todoist If you’re in desperate need for a planner, then Todoist is gonna be a lifesaver for you. Todoist encourages users to manage their tasks with their simple working app. It’s perfect for organization and increasing productivity. c:
I hope this helped!!
