I think these two needed more time together

Cloud and Sephiroth's rivalry:Both are linked together by fate and are destined rivals. Cloud tries to run the fuck away, or try fighting tactics just to get away from Sephiroth, but Sephiroth keeps on coming back like a creepy ex boyfriend trying to coax Cloud into fighting with him again.

Mario and Bowser's rivalry after 30 years: Exists mostly just to uphold the status quo, instantly dissipates whenever the situation calls for it, Peach's kidnappings probably follow a very specific schedule and after every single one they all go out for coffee together. Luigi is unironically Junior's favorite babysitter.

Sonic and Eggman's rivalry after 30 years: If You So Much As Breathe In My Direction I Am Literally Going to Kill You With My Bare Hands

I like to think that at some point, The End was an actual eldrich entity that destroyed the ancients home planet along with countless other worlds, and it stayed dormant for many years until Sonic came to Starfall Islands. The End presents itself in a female sounding voice throughout the entire game, until the final battle where a male voice suddenly seems to speak through The End.

Here's what I think, The End breaks free from it's cyberspace prison, yet Infinite from inside the Phantom Ruby in another dimension uses this chance to strike a deal with The End in order to destroy Sonic. And by striking a deal with it, I mean using it's body as a vessel by astral projecting his voice into it's incarnation and controlling it to do his bidding.

The Phantom Ruby has endless power so why not use that to your advantage to mind control an eldrich entity?

Infinite's inside the Ruby so he's basically omnipotent, he can do whatever he wants except breaking free from said Ruby.
