This new NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image shows the center of the Lagoon Nebula, an object with a deceptively tranquil name, in the constellation of Sagittarius. The region is filled with intense winds from hot stars, churning funnels of gas, and energetic star formation, all embedded within an intricate haze of gas and pitch-dark dust.

Star Trek debuted in September 1966 and in its various incarnations, the series has been an inspiration to many, even some of us at NASA. The series allowed its fans to explore âstrange new worldsâ and to dream of what could be right in their living rooms. To celebrate the showâs 50th anniversary, weâve collected some Trek-themed photos featuring Star Trek cast members and NASA astronauts.Â
