I finally figured it out. they come from big ships. it seems other people think we're a big ship when we're not. they don't realize how small we are. it's majority ships vs a minority ship. that's not in terms of rival ships, but just the sheer size of any ship.

rg has like 20-30 active shippers (that's being generous. probably closer to like 10-20) at a time between twitter and tumblr; and only like a handful of content creators, most of which aren't even active in the community.

while big ships gets art or fics out the wazoo for big crumbs, we don't. we had huge crumbs the last two episodes and there's nothing. that's not a fault of the content creators ofc, but i'm using it to put things in perspective.

they don't realize even 5-10 people talking shit (joking or not) is huge for us. i've called it bullying in the past because that's what it is when it's so many people against so few. it's the sheer size of the ship vs the bigger ships like wr and nnd that makes the difference between 5 rg shippers talking trash about those ships and this ships talking trash about our's. neither scenario is right, but it hits harder when those 5 attackers are equivalent to 30-40% of one ship's active shippers vs 1-2% of another.

when you don't have enough people to drown out the hate, it becomes exhausting and really brings you down.

half the shippers i've asked said they were afraid to publicly admit to shipping rg bc of how much shit rg gets. i've met multiple people who've left the community because of the bullying, too.

if you check the twitter replies of this crosspost right now—only two hours since i posted it—there's already several people coming forward with their stories and their fears. more and more people keep coming out as the post spreads. my heart breaks for them.

the worst part is that i know rg isn't the only ship with this problem. i'm begging you all to think about how you would feel in our shoes. to try to be more mindful of the size of your ship vs the size of others.

trust me when i say your words are a lot louder than you intend.

0r Why I Will Eat My Glass Slipper if Oscar and Ruby Don't Dance by the End of the Show

Part of Ruby's arc in v9 is realizing that the ideals and dreams she had as a (younger) child are too ambitious and unrealistic. That life, huntresses, herself… they can't be like the fairytales.

It is a very big lesson to learn but, much like all things in RWBY, there is a push for nuance. Weiss and Blake even have called out in show that those storybook morals are too simplistic or black and white. Ruby is overwhelmed and breaking under the weight of her burdens and is being given the opportunity to either keep trudging on until it destroys her, or leave all of it behind.

But what about a secret hidden third option? Can she not leave Ruby Rose behind, not become someone entirely new, but rather… Choose to be the version of Ruby Rose she wants to be on purpose? And not as a result of other people's pressures or expectations that she's internalized for too long?

The point I'm trying to make here is that she can admit that holding herself to the impossible standard of an untouchable hero that always wins in the end isn't sustainable, but still find the intersection of fairytale and reality.

Now how does this tie in to RG? For that, I want to talk about two things:

The other canon romance plots in show

One of Ruby's smaller/more subtle 'allusions'

Of the three other big relationships in the show, each one's confession seems to fall into a very specific 'theme' (I understand I am generalizing/simplifying a bit but bare with me):

Arkos is rooted in tragedy: Pyrrha's death

2. Renora is rooted in reality: A two volume long conflict that ends in them acknowledging their feelings, talking it out, and agreeing to be patient with each other.

3. Bumbleby is rooted in a literal fairytale: A pocket dimension created specifically in the Ever After to push them into smooching (and y'know... confessing)

Rosegarden is currently in the tragedy stage. Constant separation over and over again leading up to Oscar being left in Remnant thinking she's dead and Ruby stuck in the Ever After not knowing how much time is passing back home and if he'll even be there when she gets back.

Reality we've seen for them a lot in how down to earth they are with each other. The constant quiet support. Oscar seeing past the pedestal, past the ideal, straight through to Ruby. Ruby seeing past the merge and seeing him fully as just Oscar.

But how do we tie the fairytale into it when Oscar isn't in Ever After to give them that storybook magic? Well, we go back to the earlier mentioned subtle allusion for Ruby: Cinderella.

NOW I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING. "But Chai!! We already have a very clear allusion to that character!!!"

Okay yes, but Ruby is a mirror to Cinder. We've seen it in their arcs as primary antagonists to each other, we've seen it in their costume designs with the parting of their hair and similar colour schemes. Cinder Fall, Ruby Rose (as in to rise). They are two sides of one coin.

Back at the dance in v2, Ruby arrives and is left alone by her friends. She isn't wearing glass slippers, but there is a whole lot of focus on how uncomfortable her shoes are.

She leaves the dance early after not having fun and runs into Cinder. And when the clock strikes midnight and the spell is broken? Cinder is at the dance in her pretty dress with Mercury and Ruby is back in the tower getting one of, if not the first big reality check(s) of the series.

This situation is teased by Oz in the episode prior with his little conversation with Ruby:

Ozpin: Not enjoying yourself? Ruby: Oh, no aha, everything's fine. I'm just not much of a... dance-y pantsy... dance-y girl. Ozpin: Well you can't spend your entire life on the battlefield, even if you may want to. Ruby: Yeah that lesson's been floating around a lot lately. Ozpin: If you think about it, fighting and dancing aren't so different. Two partners interlocked. Heh, although one wrong room on the ballroom merely leads to a swollen foot. Ruby:Or a twisted ankle Ozpin: It's not every day that friends are able to come together like this. Time has a way of testing our bonds. But it's nights like these that can help keep them stronger than ever. Nights like these are ones we'll never forget.

He teases that the dance is special. That Ruby should get to enjoy it because life has a funny way of creeping up quickly on these things. That these moments are rare and should be treasured... and he's proven right almost immediately.

Every other person in the cast got a dance - or something close to it - that night. Blake and Yang. Blake and Sun. Weiss lost her date 'cause Neptune's a goof, but they still got to sit down and talk. Jaune and Pyrrha had a moment on the balcony before he went to grab a dress and they all danced together. Ren and Nora. Penny even danced with one of her guards. Glynda and Ironwood too!!

But our hero didn't get one. All she got was a fight.

And see, this is where I think the 'fairytale' comes in. Ruby's had her reality check. Time and time and time again that fairytale spell has been broken. She is going through a metamorphosis throughout v9 to become a newly actualized version of herself, or at least find the start of the path that brings her there. But when she returns to Remnant what is waiting for her? More war. More fighting. More responsibility as being this symbol of hope and a leader for everyone. But part of her arc is learning to share her burdens with others. And the person that has consistently tried to do that with her without her asking for it, has been Oscar. Oscar, who is currently in Vacuo with who knows how much time passing wrestling with the knowledge that Ruby, the rest of her team, and Jaune are very likely dead. Oscar, who is now bearing the weight of this world saving mission without her there.

All I'm trying to say is that a celebration of sorts with a redemption dance, quite possibly in Vacuo, isn't entirely off the table. In fact I'd argue it's been teased since the very start, especially considering just how often they are posed as if they are asking each other to dance.

Also to go back to something Ozpin said "fighting and dancing aren't so different"... One of Oscar and Ruby's first scenes together, they are sparring in front of a sunset and they can't stop smiling at each other. They're just having so much fun with it.

Also their premiere moments in volumes 6, 7, and 9 are all RG in a fight of some kind. The first two Ruby is saving him from Grimm. The latter Ruby is being attacked by Neo's illusion of him. In volume 8, we don't get that. But we do get these two moments which also count for something (especially because dances and hugs are also quite similar in some ways):

There are going to be very high emotions when RWBYJ return to Remnant and what better way to celebrate that they are still alive than a party (and if not then, then after the war is over... but hopefully not THAT long). Where they can just 'dance and laugh and love… and just live'. Even for just a moment because who knows what the next will bring.

Ruby in v2 wasn't really a dance-y pantsy kind of girl... but post-v9 Ruby? She gets to choose the kind of girl she wants to be. Just the knight? Or maybe the princess too, even just for on day. And I think if anyone is going to offer her a chance to try it out, it's going to be her Little Prince.

I love these normal kids with their very normal knees a very normal amount. I love how their respective 'specialness' makes them the perfect match for each other because it means they can be 'normal' together. That is all ty for listening. RG canon okay byeeeeee~

Can we just talk about this scene again in light of the last episode, and “Maybe even finally get our feelings sorted out! Good for you, by the way, we’re all sooo happy for you!”??? *Everyone* gets to have an uninterrupted reunion with everyone else, meanwhile Ruby turns to hug Oscar and…something comes up. Something *always* comes up for Ruby because she’s the leader and she has to deal with things while everyone else gets to have their moments in the background. Emerald’s not a problem, Ruby’s got this. She can handle it. Who cares about what she wants? Ruby needs to handle the potential threat and get to the bottom of what’s going on. Ruby has to put the needs of the group over her own. This is *Ruby’s* responsibility, hugs can wait.

But…Oscar’s in the same position. He goes to hug Ruby and something comes up. Oscar has to deal with this and explain while everyone else gets to relax. Hugs can wait.

In conclusion, Rosegarden 🌹🌲

Bad ones? (By Order of Most to Least "Done with your ass") [Edit: NO WAIT I MESSED UP THE BAD ONES]

1. All Might : Bro. Off the top of my head you have 6 (Chiyo, Nezu, Tsukauchi, Gran Torino, Nighteye, & David) people who know your secret but you ban Izuku from telling anyone? You don't even bring in Gran Torino into it until way later even though he knows better than you. Don't even get me STARTED on what you said to Izuku on that roof.

2. Endeavor : Not because you're a bad character. Infact, I like that you're a horrible person. It adds dimension to Hero Society. But your redemption arch is shit and you should feel bad.

3. Dabi : YOU COULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT!!! Why'd you have to be a psychopath pointing your rage and hatred at your innocent brother instead of simply wanting to get back at Endevour but still loving your family. (100% opinion though XD)

4. Chiyo : Okay. Lady. You CANT just deny a CHILD medical care when you know he is a late bloomer with All Might's unstable and volatile quirk. You performed SURGERY on a MINOR without parental consent. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY LAWS YOU'VE BROKEN?!

5. Nezu. My guy. You're one of the smartest beings on earth and it never occurred to you that Izuku would need help and that All Might was being irrational? You've worked with kids for years. Wtf? (Also why do you let Aizawa just expel kids left and right? Like. Come on)

6. The entire Bakusquad. Kiri and Mina especially. A good bit of their backstory revolves around bullying... how are they okay with Bakugo?!?! I love you guys, I do, but what the fuck???

Faves?

1. Izuku : Yes I'm a basic bitch. Listen. I love him and even though he has so much wasted potential I happily turn to AO3 to feed me.

2. Mirko : Ah yes. The perfect example of what a Bakugo archetype SHOULD be. Aggressive and crude but still a good and fun character. Izuku should have also interned with her at some point. Similar fighting style and she probably could have boosted his confidence and shown him that boisterous & aggressive doesn't have to mean bullying and abuse and that Bakugo is wrong and cruel.

3. Hawks : Do I have to explain this boy? Is he my fave char? No. Do I think he's amazingly written and his motivations and plot is solid? Absolutely. Give this man a hug and several years of therapy.

4. Mei : She's fun, unproblematic, and I love her. She's just a neurodivergent artificer bab.

On this blog, I bash Katsuki a lot while also shitting on Eraserhead and Hitoshi from time to time. They, to me, are MHA’s worst written characters, either by being absolutely atrocious in every way (Katsuki), or being some of the biggest missed potential I’ve seen (Hitoshi and Eraserhead).

However, I want to give the stage to you guys. Besides these three, who is your least favorite MHA and why? Do you think their writing is bad or is there just something about them that irritates the fuck out of you? There’s no wrong answers here (unless you say Tooru or Mezou, which in that case you’re 100% wrong 😤. Jk 😂). I’m legitimately curious about what y’all think and if there’s a character that is poorly written that I haven’t covered yet.

Also, tell me who your favorite character is/who you think is the best written character. I’d like to hear what you guys think on that front too.

Biggest case of Missed potential in MHA character wise - Midoriya Izuku

Seriously. Hori's refusal to have him reflect on any recent events in the manga (basically anything post War Arc), His quirkless past (even though everything that happened with Aoyama should have brought that up and made him think things), and refusal to think of BKG beyond blind childish admiration make me want to shake him hard! Even though I like him as a character.

And his 'Dark Deku' arc went NOWHERE! Dont even get me started on how 1A brought him back - hated it! How is BKG leading his friends to gang up on him (like back at Aldera) meant to have solved anything HORI?!

All of this. Izuku deserved better 😞

Just a random assortment of headcanons & AUs for Arcane:

Headcanons:

- Vi does that thing cats do where she just curls up in random patches of sunlight.

-- Caitlyn almost had a heart attack because of this one time Vi was just casually sleeping on the edge of the roof.

-- One time her parents asked why her girlfriend was sprawled out on the coffee table and just "damn it Vi."

- Vi sometimes falls asleep while standing up.

- Caitlyn eats ice cubes.

- Caitlyn's parents are just as protective of Vi as she is. They hear someone say something and go into full "tf did you say about our future daughter in law" mode (in their polite Piltovian way, of course).

- Caitlyn told Jayce about that time Vi punched the tower down so now he sometimes asks her to help test the durability of whatever he's building because surely if it can survive that it can survive anything.

- Every time Jayce says or does something stupid Viktor just bonks him on the head with his cane.

Alternate Universes:

- Arcane AU where everything is the same except instead of actual explosives Jinx just yeets paint bombs at everyone.

- Instead of getting arrested Vi is adopted by Sevika.

-- I find the mental image of Sevika turning to Silco and going "if you get to keep the small explody child, I get to keep the small punchy child" amusing.

-- Eventually leads to a "competitive parenting" dynamic where Silco is actively trying to win while Sevika just does it by accident.

-- If Sevika wants time off or a raise she just asks Vi to break something that would inconvenience Silco (though, let's be honest, Vi doesn't need much convincing for that), sometimes they get Jinx to help because Silco is physically incapable of being angry at Jinx for longer than five minutes.

- AU where Vi actually is the leader of Zaun but Caitlyn doesn't know cause it just never comes up, Vi herself doesn't mention it and no one in the Undercity brings it up because "what idiot doesn't know that?" so the two of them are just off doing their thing without it ever being addressed, cut to some point in the future & the council mention wanting to meet whoever's in charge and Vi pipes up "oh yeah, that's me" and Caitlyn's just standing there like "excuse me, what???"
