The thing blue state leftists don’t seem to understand about red states is that telling minorities to “just leave” is really insidious. That is exactly what the republicans want. They want to make their state so miserable and dangerous and scary for everyone who isn’t a conservative cisgender heterosexual white Christian that those people leave. Leave behind their family, their homes, their friends, their jobs, their community, the places they’ve lived their entire life. With every person who leaves it is one less gay person teaching their children, one less person protesting outside the capitol, one less blue voter trying to stop the place they call home from sliding into fascism.
Many of us cannot afford to ‘just leave’ and many of us don’t want to because contrary to popular belief, North Carolina isn’t an irredeemable shithole with nothing to offer and no sense of community. People do leave red states for their safety but that does not fix the underlying problem, that doesn’t even make the problem better.
A very beautiful image of these smiley blackfoot. It seemed everything was alright…

First, there was Chambers in 2019. Mostly Native cast (remaining cast was still very diverse), told the story of a Navajo main character, axed by Netflix despite a large following and fanbase.
Then, Trickster in 2020/2021. Mostly Native cast once again (remaining cast was still very diverse), told the story of a Haisla main character, axed by CBC despite a large following and fanbase.*
Then, The Wilds earlier this year. Two Indigenous main characters (Martha and Toni) (other cast was still very diverse), super important show to those in the Indigenous community (including myself), axed by Amazon Prime despite a large following and fanbase.
Now, Rutherford Falls. Mostly Native cast once again (remaining cast was still very diverse, including a non-binary Chinese-American character), told the story of a Native plus-sized woman main character (tribe is Minishonka, though that is a fictional tribe made up for the show), axed by Peacock despite a large following and fanbase.
TV, and especially streaming, execs really don’t give a fuck about Indigenous representation and Indigenous people at all.
(Safe to reblog, btw)
*I understand that Trickster is complicated by Michelle Latimer being involved in Trickster, but she could have been replaced, I watch SVU and they’ve had 6 different showrunners over the years. CBC just didn’t give a fuck to find someone else, instead they just canceled the show.
The atheists who hate the terms "culturally Christian" or "Christianized" atheist/atheism, need to come to a reckoning with the fact that most of the people talking about the phenomenon of Christian cultural practices and default assumptions remaining present in atheist communities in historically Christian and Christianized parts of the world, are in fact also atheists.
Jewish atheists, and other atheists from non-Christian cultural backgrounds latched on to "culturally Christian" as a term to describe the ways in which atheist communities dominated by people from majority Christian, or majority Christianized, countries, are hostile to us and don't recognize our forms of atheism and secularism as legitimate, in spite of the fact that we also don't believe in any deity. it also became a convenient term to talk about the ways in which atheists from culturally Christian backgrounds frequently insist that to be properly secular, properly an atheist, you have to assimilate into a specific set of cultural practices viewed by these particular atheists as culturally and religiously neutral, AKA secular. "Culturally Christian" is a convenient term used to point out that these are not in fact culturally neutral practices, and that there are forms of atheism that do not include them, and include other cultural practices, and that atheists from other cultural backgrounds should not have to assimilate into another culture, for our atheism to be considered valid.
So like, the fact that the response to the term culturally Christian is to paint the non culturally Christian people using it, as religious people going after atheists as atheists, is both an example of a culturally Christian phenomenon, and also really obnoxious and ironic, given that the people who are making this argument are usually making it from within the atheist community. We are also atheists, which is why this phenomenon actually matters to us. This is an intra-community discussion, and trying to frame it as the mean religious people going after the atheists, erases our atheism, and is really annoying, and the only thing it serves to do, is to protect the people using this framing, from having to confront what those of us talking about the phenomenon are actually saying.

Can people please fucking stop making "haha, Floridians are all poor stupid crackheads" jokes?
If we're poor, it's because our state government cares more about the rich tourists in the coastal high-rises than the average citizen, and the cost of living won't stop rising no matter how hard the people scream for relief.
If we're uneducated, it's because our state government is gutting education left and right, and turning it into a battleground in the white supremacist culture war.
If we're addicts, it's because we have no social safety net and self-medication is all we can turn to.
Every Florida Man headline is about a real human being, usually one under extreme duress and with absolutely no social resources to fall back on.
I hope none of you ever have to see a loved one--or yourself--represented as little more than a "Florida Man" joke, when the truth of the situation is that you were scared, starving, and vulnerable to state violence and asshole reporters who would rather pursue a viral headline than respect the dignity of a human being in crisis.
They honestly did Black Dog so dirty in the Russian version of Treasure Island
Like, in other versions of Treasure Island, they make Black Dog look so cool and badass
