Tips For Working With Demons
Here are some tips and general advice for working with demons and spirits. I'll probably add more to this list as things come to mind.
โข These are individuals, people like you and me. Many of them have had human incarnations here on Earth. They understand your struggle and have their own issues and emotions as well. They have favorite things, best friends, family, and feelings. They are powerful, yes, but should also be treated with love and respect.
โข They can and will speak to you. If you possess psychic abilities you may be able to channel some or all demons. People often ask how to tell the difference between the voice of a spirit, or an internal voice or hallucination. Spirit will never speak over you, interupt your ability to think freely, or control your mind. They simply speak, if you're willing to listen. They may also manifest physically, move objects, visit your dreams, send you signs, they have many ways to get their point across.
โข Do not stress over time. If you haven't spoken to or left an offering to your patron demon in a few weeks because you've been depressed or busy, this is fine. Spirits do not experience time as we do and your absence is little more than a blink of an eye to them.
โข Get creative with your offerings. King Paimon loves chocolate, Bune loves fancy perfume, Lucifer fancies himself some whiskey. You may wonder how offerings help demons, since they lack a mortal body. All physical beings possess a spirit and as such, all physical objects possess an essence. This essence can be absorbed by a spirit to allow them to taste/experience the offering. This gives them energy as well. Fun fact: once the essence of a consumable offering is taken it will be dull and tasteless. Try it sometime.
โข Remember to say "thank you". Show appreciation and gratitude to any demons that lend their time and power to enhance your life. This is a team effort and no one likes to be used. Friendship and growth should be your top priorities when working with spiritual entities.
โข Go ahead and draw that sigil badly. It's ok to only give a tiny drop of blood. Demons are far from perfect and do not expect perfection from you. Your effort and intention is what matters most.
โข Stay away from Solomonic or Abrahamic methods that aim to control or trap demons. This is not likely to end well for you and it is a huge betrayal to the trust of a powerful cosmic being. If you are afraid of the interaction, there are many other forms of personal protection you can employ.
โข Chances are there is a demon or spirit that resonates with you. Don't get discouraged if your first several attempts don't spark a connection. Read up on different entities and mediatate to find where you should try next.
โข Let go of your preconceived expectations. Demons are not going to just make you rich, successful, or smart. These things are the result of forming strong bonds of power and raising one's consciousness. Often times you won't get what you want, but what you need instead. Spirits can see the bigger picture of who we are, our capabilities, and our soul's path. Trust their vision.

The Perfect Tarot Deck
Finding the perfect tarot deck is a deeply personal journey. With thousands of decks available, choosing one that aligns with your energy, intuition, and reading style can make all the difference in your tarot practice. This guide explores different types of tarot decks, where to find them, and how to determine if a deck resonates with your energy.
Before choosing a deck, itโs important to understand the different types available.
Traditional tarot decks
Most tarot decks follow one of these three classic systems:
โข Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) โ The most widely used tarot system, featuring detailed imagery that makes intuitive readings easier. Ideal for beginners.
โข Thoth Tarot โ Created by Aleister Crowley, this deck has esoteric symbolism, astrology, and Kabbalistic influences. Best for those with advanced occult interests.
โข Marseille Tarot โ A historic tarot deck with simple, pip-style Minor Arcana (like playing cards). Ideal for traditionalists and those interested in historical divination.
Themed and Artistic Decks
Many tarot decks incorporate different themes and artistic styles:
โข Fantasy, Mythology, and Folklore โ E.g., The Tarot of the Divine, which uses myths from around the world.
โข Gothic, Dark, or Occult โ E.g., The Deviant Moon Tarot, perfect for shadow work.
โข Nature & Animal-Based Decks โ E.g., The Wild Unknown Tarot, focused on natureโs wisdom.
โข Pop Culture & Modern Decks โ E.g., The Modern Witch Tarot, a contemporary take on the RWS deck.
Oracle Decks vs. Tarot Decks
Tarot decks always follow a structured 78-card system. Oracle decks have flexible structures and meanings, great for freeform divination but not interchangeable with tarot. If youโre new, sticking to a tarot deck based on the RWS system is a good idea before branching into alternative styles.
Once you have an idea of what kind of deck you want, youโll need to find the right place to get it.
Online Marketplaces & Specialty Stores
โข Amazon, Etsy, & Bookstores (Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, etc.) โ Great for mass-market decks with reviews to help you decide.
โข Independent Creators & Publishers โ Many artists sell decks directly on Kickstarter, Instagram, or their own websites.
โข Metaphysical & Occult Shops โ Shopping in-person allows you to physically handle a deck before buying.
Secondhand & Gifted Decks
โข Buying Used Decks โ Some believe secondhand decks carry previous owners' energies, but cleansing them can refresh their energy.
โข Receiving as a Gift โ A common superstition says your first deck should be gifted, but this is not a rule. Buy your own if it feels right.
DIY & Printable Decks
โข Make Your Own โ Some practitioners create their own decks by hand or digitally print custom images.
โข Printable Decks โ Some artists offer PDF tarot decks for purchase and printing at home.
Once you have a deck in mind, youโll want to check if it aligns with your energy and intuition.
First Impressions Matter
โข Look at the imagery โ Do the colors, symbols, and style speak to you emotionally?
โข Hold the deck (if possible) โ If shopping in person, feel the deck in your hands. Does it give you a strong reaction?
The Deck Interview Spread
Before fully committing to a deck, try a short reading to understand its personality. Use this 5-card spread:
โข What is your personality?
โข What kind of readings will we do best together?
โข What can you teach me?
โข How should I best work with you?
โข What is our long-term potential?
If the responses feel clear and meaningful, the deck likely resonates with you.
Physical & Energetic Sensations
Some people feel a tingling or warmth when holding a deck that connects with them.
If a deck makes you feel uneasy or drained, it might not be a good fit.
Try a Simple One-Card Pull
Ask, โWhat do I need to know about working with you?โ and pull a card. If the message is clear and insightful, itโs a good match. If it feels confusing or off-putting, you may need more time with the deckโor it might not be the right one for you.
What to Do If Your Deck Doesnโt Feel Right
Sometimes, a deck doesnโt resonate immediately. Hereโs what you can do:
โข Cleanse and Reset the Deck
โข Smoke cleansing (sage, palo santo, or incense).
โข Moonlight charging (place the deck under the full moon).
โข Crystal cleansing (place with selenite or clear quartz).
โข Knocking the deck (tap it three times to reset energy).
Give It Time
Some decks require time to bond with. Spend a week shuffling and pulling daily cards before deciding.
Trade or Rehome the Deck
If it still doesnโt click, consider trading it with another reader or gifting it to someone who might connect with it better.
Finding the perfect tarot deck is a journey of intuition and self-discovery. The best deck for you is the one that feels right in your hands, speaks to your intuition, and makes readings feel natural. Whether youโre drawn to a traditional Rider-Waite-Smith deck, an artistic indie creation, or a secondhand find, trust your instincts and let your deck choose you as much as you choose it.
did u see them btw...
What is warding?
Warding is the practice of shielding or protecting something, someplace, or someone. There are a million and two different types of wards you can create-- in many ways, you are only limited by your own creativity and knowledge.
I always recommend having, at minimum, a protective ward for yourself and your living space if you practice witchcraft (or something adjacent to witchcraft). What a ward does is dependent on what it was created to do. Different people have different needs, and wards are not one-size fits all. Wards can be generic or specific, but my personal preference is a well-defined ward. By well-defined, I mean "clear in what it will and will not do".
In order to figure out what sort of ward you may need, ask yourself these questions:
What does my practice focus on?
Where might I be vulnerable?
What are my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to witchcraft?
Who and what am I comfortable with having in my space?
When and where am I comfortable with having others in my space?
What do I need to keep out, and what do I need to keep in?
What existing practices/habits may affect my wards? (e.g. cleansing, banishment, rituals, etc.)
Do I have an energy source for a ward? How do I intend to upkeep my wards?
Do my wards need to be moveable or changeable?
What resources are available to me? Are there people or entities that are willing to help me?
What, in my mundane life, do I need help with? What do I need to protect?
What actions am I taking, in my mundane life, to protect myself? (e.g. driving safely, practicing good fire safety habits, etc.)
As previously stated, there are a million and two different types of wards-- and a million and two different ways to create them. Best practice is generally to lean on your personal strengths and resources to make one. Here are some more specific examples:
Herbalism: A witch who works primarily with herbs could create a protective sachet or jar that is filled with protective herbs.
Kitchen Witchcraft: Someone who practices kitchen witchcraft could cook protective foods, or incorporate small actions into their regular cooking that add protective qualities into their food (i.e. stirring a certain way, routinely using certain ingredients, etc.)
Storm Witchcraft: A witch who works with storms could use the energy of storms to protect their home. They could call on fearsome breezes to blow away harm, rainfall to wash it away, darkness to hide their home, etc.
Glamour witchcraft: A glamour witch can work on how they are perceived. Don't want someone approaching you? Make them afraid of you. Have a fearsome appearance to those who would wish you harm. Make them hesitate. Or hide yourself altogether, as if you were never there.
Deity witchcraft: Ask your gods to guide your hand, to show you how to protect yourself. Ask them to protect you, and clarify what you need protection from.
Green Witchcraft: Grow a plant with the intention of having it take the blow for you, if anything negative gets sent your way. Or have it purify your space.
Divination Wards: Use the energy of specific tarot cards to protect yourself. Write protective runes on things you care about.
Music Witchcraft: Play empowering music. Belt out a song about how nothing can harm you. Hum a tune to make things go away.
Energy Witchcraft: Envision great shields and walls, fortresses and moats. Whatever screams "protection" to you.
Etc.
Keep in mind that any ward can be for both the magical and mundane (though, always act with common sense, and act as if your wards do not exist. A ward will not make you immortal, and they can be counteracted and/or destroyed. They are there for when shit hits the fan-- but they are not a free pass to start throwing shit AT the fan!)
Transmutative wards: Tranform harmful energy sent your way into something positive and useful. (e.g. negative rumors -> increased opportunities, bad intentions -> abundance)
Baneful wards: If someone hits you, hit them back. Reflect whatever they sent to you back on them, and thensome.
Banishment Wards: If something steps into your space, kick it back out.
Hiding Wards: Hide something from prying eyes. Make it invisible, or make it appear boring/uninteresting.
Reflective wards: Reflect something's image back at them, let them see what they expect to see, or let them see themselves.
Healing wards: Protect your health, or force healing upon those who brush up against them (e.g. if someone lashes out at you because they have not been working on themselves, a healing ward can be just as painful as an outright baneful one.)
Scrambling/maze Wards: Scramble any information someone/something gets, or make them lose their way. Commonly used for unsolicited divination.
Protective wards/wall wards: Stop anything from getting in or out. Stop or prevent harm
Alarm bell wards: Warn you about things coming your way.
Comfort wards: Keep comforting/soothing energy around you.
Name/Reputation wards
Household/common places wards
Wards for safe travels
Wards to keep specified spirits/entities out
Wards for malicious intent
Wards for curses/hexes
Wards for natural disasters
Wards for misfortunes
Please feel free to ask any specific questions you may have, this is only a very brief overview to introduce the topic.
When it comes to kitchen magic (or really witchcraft in general), people get too hung up in correspondences, esp when first starting out. And I think focusing too heavily on correspondences is what ends up making people feel like they cant advance their craft.
In my opinion part of it is "you need to make your own correspondences". Sure some rosemary in a stew might work for healing or purification, but do you also associate the herb that way? I think of my beautiful rosemary bushes over the years, tying and drying their branches, the beautiful scent, previous spells I have done. It feels me with a certain feeling of safety that I can then channel into my work.
When it comes to cooking, I feel like it's a lot of energy work. All spell work incorporates our energies in some way, I especially feel it with cooking. Your hands and cooking tools are vessels to transfer your energy. You transfer your energy when you knead bread, cut veggies, wash the rice, stir the soup, you get the idea. Yes you can focus on a specific mantra, but the point is you don't always have to do that. You using your energy to change ingredients into something new, something nourishing for the body, is magic in and of itself.
I also use my energy to charm my tools instead of individual meals/drinks. A special tea cup charmed with a spell to bring me relaxation doesn't need me to do a small spell or mantra every time I make a cup of tea (because I would forget to do that anyways). Instead it holds the calming energies I have already given it until I feel it needs to be charged again. A favorite soup stirring spoon is going to spread my love to every meal I make using it just because it has picked up my own energy throughout its use.
I think just accepting the magic of the everyday and of your energy is esp important for those of us who feel like we have less spoons. Me cooking uses enough of my precious energy, but it's something I do out of love and because I enjoy it. That's where the real magic is.
Please note that if you are using a hard bound notebook or journal, adding in additional pages will bulk up your book, like so: (these are the exact same journals, btw)
- Envelopes. Letโs say youโre doing a section on Tarot in your Grimoire, and you want to include a few Tarot spreads, but you donโt want to waste two or three pages. Glue an envelope onto one of your pages to make a โpocketโ where you can store little cards or papers with the tarot spreads written on them.
- Pockets. Similar to the envelope idea. If you have a page, or section for example, on herbal teas, you can make a pocket out of a piece of paper to keep your current favorite tea recipes in.
- Dividers, Cover Pages and Ribbons. If youโre like me and you like to have โsectionsโ in your grimoire, you can easily make dividers by gluing a sheet of paper in your book (to make it heavier to make the sections stand out more). You can go further by turning your divider into a cover page for that section. And if you donโt like the idea doing that, you can always glue a ribbon, or a string, to the spine of your book to act as a bookmark.
- Double pages. I always had a problem with โwastingโ pages in my grimoire. For example, my page on consecrating and charging. These two concepts are very similar to me, and I didnโt want two page stating the same thing. So, what I did was write out all my information on charging on a separate sheet of paper, then glued the top of that page into my grimoire. This way I could flip up the page on charging (as if it were on a clipboard) and have my page on consecrating underneath.
- Extended pages. Similar to the one above. In my Crystal section of my Grimoire, I decided to write out a chart that let me search for crystals by intention. So I drew my chart on a long sheet of paper, then folded it over (side to side) so that it fit comfortably in my book, then I just glued one side down into the book.
- Brochures. In my Elements section, I had a ton of information I wanted to write down, but I didnโt want each element to have more than two pages. So I used a piece of computer paper and folded it into a brochure (or into thirds) and glued it into the book so that the flaps would open and give me double the space to write.
- Clear Tape. There are many times where i finished a page in my grimoire only to find out there was a section that I left out. A simply way to fix this was with clear tape. I would write my forgotten bit of into on a separate piece of paper and then use clear tape to tape one side of the paper to my page. This allows me to flip the paper back and forth without covering up anything that I had written.
