In light of it suddenly becoming Dracula season, I had to make a quiz! Which Dracula character are you?
Riddler, talking to some random girl: And here's my number. Ha-ha!
Scarecrow: Do you just... walk around with your phone number pre-written on pieces of paper???
Riddler, smirking: Yep.
Scarecrow, rolling his eyes: Of course you do-
I JUST SAW AN AD FORĀ āMORBIUSā AND IāM SHOOK.
ITāS COMING OUT ON MY BIRTHDAY, YAāLL. I HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR THIS SHIT.
Disney, donāt you dare let me down-
Ā Ā No doubt, one of my favorite things aboutĀ āThe Boy (2016)ā was how much of it was left up to your imagination and interpretation. (Death of the author, ofc. Only keeping the movie itself in mind.)
Ā Ā We got almost no concrete proof for anything the movie tells us about Brahmsā backstory, and what we do know can lead to multiple conclusions about the character.
Ā Ā The wholeĀ āhe killed Emilyā thing, for instance. Ā Ā This is something weāre told by Malcom, who prefaces what he says by directly mentioning that this is town gossip. Which is untrue or, at best, only half-true. (Take it from someone whoās lived in a small town and had gossip and rumors spread about me and my loved ones, theyāre usually spread with very little of the original context and, usually, turns into āI think this happenedā instead of facts, or ends up being a giant game of telephone... or both.)Ā Ā Ā We get a picture of a girl, showing that there was, in fact, anĀ āEmilyā that Brahms knew, but other than that, we get nothing.
Ā Ā For all we know, Emily couldāve fell and hit her head on a rock, and people started blaming Brahms for it. Thereās no concrete evidence proving it either way, and I love it.
Ā Ā We donāt even know that much about Brahms, really. Heās a craftsman (As seen in the ending scene.), he makes traps (The rat traps everywhere with his initials.), he can make a sandwich, he enjoys having a set schedule, and he canāt live by himself (At least, as far as we know.). ...Thatās really all we know besides him being forced into the walls by his parents and being twenty-eight in the film. We also hear that he was apparentlyĀ āOddā, which, considering his clearly snooty-ish upbringing, could mean a lot of things.
Ā Ā Why is he acting like a kid? It could be a manipulation tactic, it could be a sign of mental illness, or it could be a coping mechanism. Again, it's up to your interpretation.
Ā Ā Personally, I see all this and think:Ā Ā Ā "Heās a traumatized man whoās possibly autistic (Schedule, traps may be a special interest, canāt properly live by himself, etc.), falsely rumored to have murdered his one friend, burned in a fire set by his (possibly ableist) parents, and was gaslit and manipulated into thinking Emilyās death really was his fault."
Ā But thatās just how I see it, of course. Ā Ā I imagine there could be many ways someone could interpret the film. (For instance, my sister watched it and came out the other side with:Ā āheās guilty, creepy, and severely in need of psychological helpā.) and thatās great, I love it!Ā
Ā Ā I wish moreĀ āhorror-ishā movies did this. Most present horror is jump scares and gore with little to no substance, and while I enjoy a bit of gore here and there, it can be pretty tiring. (Aka: Why I lovedĀ āThe Collectorā but disliked its sequel āThe Collectionā, lol.)
Loki- Slytherin. Was there any contest? I donāt think so. His aesthetic, their personality, his vibe even, it all screams Slytherin. Thor- Gryffindor. Courage, Daringness, nerve, and Chivalry. All of those things are the main components of Thorās personality. It also works for the sibling rivalry situation between him and his brother. Captain America- Gryffindor. Iāve seen a few people argue Hufflepuff and I honestly donāt get it. Steve is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the american dream. So much so that heās willing to throw out his loyalty to the american government to uphold his moral compass. Thus, Gryffindor is the only choice for him in my book. Iron Man- I feel confident in saying heād be a Ravenclaw. His first instinct when it comes to running into a problem is using the tech he manufactured to his advantage, and using his intelligence to come up with plans that people often donāt expect. (Iron man 3ā²s ending fight scene anyone?) He literally builds his identity on his intelligence and what it grants him. Bruce Banner- In my opinion, I feel like heād also be a Ravenclaw. Shock to no-one, MrĀ āI have seven PHDs how many does Hulk haveā is a Ravenclaw. (Hulk doesnāt get his own hogwarts house.) Pietro Maximoff- Gryffindor. Pietro canāt be a Hufflepuff because like most speedsters, he has very little to no patience. Heās also the type to literally die trying to save someone, even soeone he had an unspoken rivalry with, which is far more of a Gryffindor trait than a Hufflepuff one to me.Ā Wanda Maximoff- A fellow Slytherin after my own heart. Resourceful, Cunning, and Ambitious, thereās no way that she could be anything else. She even fits the vibe of a Slytherin. Mysterious, somewhat intimidating, but isnāt outright evil.Ā Vision- Heās a Ravenclaw, no contest. This man is literally a super-computer, he has knowledge for days. Falcon- Hufflepuff. There is no other option. This man is a Hufflepuff, period. Bucky- Gryffindor. Figures Steveās best friend would share the same house. Courage, nerve, chivalry, itās all the same as it was for Steve. Spiderman- Hufflepuff. I mean, no wonder heās one of my favorites- Peter clearly has the valuing hard-work aspect of Hufflepuffs down. He greatly admires the work everyone round him puts in, and even more greatly values peopleās dedication. In terms of courage and chivalry, heās not as well-rounded in those areas imo, and while heās intelligent and clever, itās definitely not his defining attributes. And...heās not a Slytherin. I donāt think I even need to explain why. Starlord- Slytherin. Hear me out on this one. P quillās situation is a bit hard to pin down, but I think of all the houses, Slytherin fits him the best. Maybe not in general aesthetics, but in the core personality traits. Griffyndor doesnāt fit mainly because of Peterās lack of chivalry. Sure, he saved the galaxy, but in terms of genuine care for the people around him, it usually only applies to people he has a genuine bond with. Hufflepuff, he fits the aesthetic of one, theĀ āfun-loving himboā, but besides that, he doesnāt really have much in common with them. However, heās street-smart, resourceful, and very ambitious. Attempting to make a name for himself and be the leader of any group he finds himself working with. (I mean, he tries to one-up Thor constantly, after all.) Tāchalla- Hufflepuff. The aesthetics betray the core principals that make up each house I notice. As, Tāchalla isnāt the partying himbo type, but heās very loyal to WakandaĀ and his people/ancestry/culture. He does put value in hard work and dedication, and heās nothing if not a patient man. I mean his core fighting plan is waiting for just the right moment to strike, like a real panther, so- Ant-man- Griffyndor. Chivalry is his thing. He literally went to prison because he hacked andĀ āstoleā back money for people who were conned out of it. Courage? Well, heās certainly not a coward. This guy is just one of those characters that fits very well into one specific house without much need for explanation. Dr Strange- Ravenclaw. Again: Fits very well into one specific house without much need for explanation. Hela- Slytherin. Like, as if there wasnāt already enough reasons to point out theĀ āpick which of these three is adoptedā meme-
I think I'm already tired of the 'all of one character groups into a collective of multiverse heroes' trope. Or whatever you want to call it.
I just tried to watch 'My adventures with Superman' and I was mentally checked out the entire seventh episode as soon as we found out about the 'league of Lois'.
Honestly, that trope is so dumb. I'm not the only one who thinks that, right?
āMalgendering when trans men use it is just them trying to claim they move through the world like cis women and are therefore incapable of harmā what are you TALKING ABOUT
I think it's kind of sad that I can't bring myself to care about new stuff in the MCU anymore.
It's not about superhero-fatigue or whatever other things people are suggesting may be the cause, though. I feel like the reason I and many other people are starting to overlook new stuff and not care is because the people making those movies and stuff basically just... stopped caring about it themselves.
They stopped really putting effort into it, and it shows. There are a couple of outliers, like Moon Knight, but for every Moon Knight that comes out, there are three Loki series, or Mobius movies. Y'know?
It's become less and less rewarding and less and less fun to watch. Just cash-grabs, rather than actual stories with substance.
And I feel like this is easy to notice when you think about how Invincible and The Boys is super popular despite the idea of 'Superhero fatigue'. The difference between DC/Marvel and The Boys/Invincible? (Besides the violence, obviously.) is that 'The Boys' and 'Invincible' actually have time, effort, and love put into them. While the DCEU and the MCU are both basically being milked to death by the same people who tried to copyright 'DĆa de los Muertos' after they made the movie Coco.
...But hey, at least we still have the MCU before Ragnarok (+Black Panther) to enjoy, right? We also have all the animated DC and Marvel content, as well as all the comics.
Your daily reminder that I will never accept TR, IW and Loki show as canon not only because of retcon of the original storyline, but also because all of them completely ignored THIS:
Also: cryokinesis and levitating were unfortunately never shown on-screen, and the most of his powers were shown for a few seconds and usually is just made fun of in TR and LS.
(And he is literally a genius. Not only in magic but in ANY KIND OF TECHNOLOGY. And they just forgot about it)
