The Choices We Make:

DISCLAIMER: This is a work of fiction. It is, however, partially based on true events. I would like to make it clear that I am NOT romanticizing any of the bad stuff in this story.

So there’s this girl in my class, Abby. And she is OBSESSED with me and my best friend. Like I’m not just saying that. It’s honestly a little bit creepy. She copies my speech patterns. My best friend’s handwriting. As soon as either of us wear a new outfit, she does her best to copy it too. 

It wasn’t always like this. At the beginning of freshman year, I thought I was going to be friends with her. But, she was continuously mean to me. So, I moved on. I gathered social power, until I had the entire class under my thumb. I also made my best friend. He’s really socially powerful in his own right, but to be honest, my reputation protects him. We are both very aware of this, and are fine with it.

In the first couple of weeks of freshman year, Abby really wanted to be friends with all of my friends, but they didn’t feel the same. She tried to publicly destroy me a couple of times, but I made sure she just made herself look bad. 

For the first semester of freshman year, she was a bitch to both me and my best friend. But slowly, it changed. She got nicer and nicer to me. I didn’t really think that hard about it, except to be a little annoyed that she was still being a bitch to my best friend.

In the second semester, it got weirder. She started watching us. Whatever we did, she did. And, she started seeking out validation whenever she could. She stopped being a bitch to my best friend, but she would get really angry and quiet whenever he didn’t do what she (very clumsily) tried to get her to do. 

Both me and my best friend can “read” people very easily, and together, we figured out what was going on. She was horribly jealous of us. Essentially, she wanted my best friend’s body, sense of style, intelligence, and personality. And she wanted my power, my social position, and my reputation. She also became obsessed with becoming my best friend, attempting to sabotage me and my best friend at every turn.

It reached a point where every time we hugged she would look angry and sad. Me and my best friend laughed it off. We didn’t take it seriously.

It got even worse in sophomore year. She copied my best friend’s handwriting, she started obsessively finding out everything she could about us, to a stalkerish level. I went to the administration. Nothing happened. My best friend and I made a point to do as much PDA as possible in front of her. It just made her angrier.

Everything came to a head in junior year. I’d had a really stressful week, and I snapped at my best friend in front of Abby. 

Abby approached me later, and told me she’d noticed me and my best friend’s issues, and had some information she thought I’d want to know. Intrigued, I let her tell me.

She’d created a master plan of how she was going to replace my best friend. She was going to bury him - get him out of the way, and take his place. The only thing she needed now was my confirmation that if he was gone I’d befriend her. As I looked at her plan, I felt like I was going to puke. This was so much bigger than I thought it was. This wasn’t just a silly little crush (the teacher I’d complained to’s exact words). This was an obsession. A sick, twisted fantasy life, and the last character she needed was me.

Then, I got angry. I told her to wait a few weeks, and then once she’d buried my best friend, I’d be all hers.

I didn’t tell my best friend. I didn’t tell him about the documents, I didn’t tell him about my plan, I didn’t tell him any of it.

It took me all the time I’d given myself to make sure the plan would go perfectly - but, on April 13 2019, I did it.

I killed Abby.

They never found her body (and they never will). To this day, she’s a missing person. I went to her parents, a few weeks after she was declared missing, and expressed my sympathies. I told them to have faith, that sometimes miracles happen. They never suspected a thing.

I think my best friend suspects. But, he’s never asked, and I never told.

I don’t regret it. No one. And i mean no one. Hurts my friends.

DISCLAIMER (part 2): I would like to once again reiterate that this is a work of fiction. Abby is based off of a real person, and some of the events in this story actually happened. Many have been dramatized. I DID NOT KILL ANYONE IN HIGH SCHOOL

Note: the best friend in this story is in fact the lovely @fyolesque, who can attest to the fact that there was a girl who was obsessed with us in high school, she is still very much alive.
