Fan 1; most canon content consumed in Wayne family adventures, lives in fanon stereotypes and tumblr reblogs, usually only reads fanfiction to get their content fix

Fan 2; has never looked at fanon content in their lives, has somehow managed to literally every comic book you’ve never heard of. Is violently pissed at the fladerization of their fave. (For some reason hates Jason Todd)

Fan 3; likes fanon and canon but they cannot touch. On. The. Plate. Good and separate like me when I have anything with mashed potatoes or sauce. Sure Dick can be a little naive in Fanon but if he needs help working a computer in canon they will riot or if people T h I n k their fanon is canon. (Low key also will ignore fanon they disagree with)

Fan 4; can’t tell the difference and/or substitutes the cooler one. Canon is a subway sandwich and Fanon are the excess toppings. They honest to god would not be able to tell you which idea they got from the comics vs Reddit vs a tumblr shit post. Sometimes fanon bleeds over and someone might read nothing butt nightwing and think it’s good who knows? (High key will ignore the canon they disagree with)

-23 yr old Dick has a Baby, he got adopted at 22. Baby is legally Bruce’s grandchild. Bruce is a grandpa at 38 wtf is he supposed to do here. He’s being broody his son is dead! He can’t care about a chil- awwww look they’re smiling at me hiii baby

Baby Grayson being a freakishly good acrobat like their dad and scaring everyone (why is the 4 yr old doing a backflip) Batman finally feels vindicated bc everyone knows how hard it was to keep Dick on the ground and not a chandelier now.

The bat family is split between Dog people and cat people and I refuse to elaborate

Bruce:…cat person for obvious reasons I mean come on he’s had a will they won’t they with Selina Kyle for like 50 years atp

Dick: Dog person listen Dick likes cats but Dick is the one who sits on concerning thin ledges and moves like he has no bones cats he and cats are too similar. + dogs are more excitable, energetic and affectionate and after dealing with Bruce Wayne for damn near 2 decades you become allergic to any form of open communication and one must try to acclimate (like that girl on TikTok with the carrot allergy)

Jason: wants to be a dog person Is a cat person. He was always a cat person and but he lies and says he used to like dogs until he got blown up (he will not elaborate on what a dog or cat preference has to do with this he just likes bringing it up) he can barley keep his team from being arrested he is not bringing a dog along with him anywhere. He also just…isn’t their biggest fan like he’ll warm up to 1 dog and love em but doesn’t mean he likes all dogs

Tim: dog person. They’re useful, friendly and cute (they can be used to track peoples scents and he’s a professional stalker)

Damian: Damian Georg is an outlier and should not be counted

Steph: Cats because she got bit by a guard dog as a kid and now is a little more weary. Also she likes to have a cat napping on her lap when she does any sort of work bc then she’s stuck there and has to do the work bc she can’t wake up the cat. Also if Steph had a pet it would be a cat who looks eerily similar to her and I will not elaborate (for real this time)

Duke: Dog person, he seems like the type of dude to have 5 identical looking dogs and take them out on walks sequentially so that everyone thinks he’s been walking the same dog for 5 hours. Idk Duke started a cult he likes chaos, cat people don’t put effort into making peoples lives hell bc they don’t put effort into anything (except revenge)

But Jason Todd canonically resents Nightwing for being the perfect son

And for following Bruce’s teachings which he deems frankly ineffective and useless.

As well as feeling that he will never be able to live up to Nightwings legacy

But Dick Grayson is another story

Because Nightwing is Batman’s pride and Joy. Proof the the concept of the child hero and one of the first second gen hero’s who got justice league level respect without taking over a mentors titles

Meanwhile

Dick Grayson is his brother

And sometimes these two come into conflict like in under the redhood

You can see in the image here that when bludhaven got destroyed

Initially Jason wasn’t happy, his face was shadowed and he was genuinely upset and then Bruce screamed Dicks name and Jason immediately remembers himself and returns to taunting Bruce

Jason’s relationship is bad with nightwing bc he sees nightwing as another hand in Batman’s crusade

Dick has been Jason’s hero since long before he put on the uniform

But Jason Todd and Dick Grayson have a completely separate relationship

Despite dick and nightwing being the same guy it’s very obvious when Jason is talking to Dick his Big Brother and Nightwing Batman’s lil perfect solider

They can insult each other and joke around and be supportive with one another

And Dick Grayson will always have Jason Todd’s back if not the red hood

There was a panel in I think the Nightwing 2021 annual where Jason was accused of murder and Dick goes to talk to him and Jason immediately goes “I didn’t do it” and Dick replies I believe you “just like that?” “Just like that”

And of course there was the iconic Nightwing and Batman fight during Gotham war with my boy did so well in he should’ve won

Anyway Dick and Jason are friends and brothers

Nightwing and red hood despise each other

I love how severely Jason refuses to differentiate between Bruce and Batman while also refusing to acknowledge that Nightwing and Dick Grayson are the same dude

This is where I get annoyed bc I love cracking jokes about dicks dating life

But this is how I 100% feel about it

Dick loves flirting, he’s a flirty guys I’m pretty sure he’s flirted with everyone from raptor to batwoman (before ID reveal)

Dick and his friends flirt with one another all the time

But like dick has has 3-4 very serious relationships and only 2 have been genuinely consistent throughout his 80 year tenure as a character

Tim went through that in a week

And I feel like people seem to equate dicks friendly flirty personality + being canonically very very good looking as sleeping around.

Now personally I live laugh love demisexual Grayson it’s my drug feed it to me

But if you want/headcanon him sleeping around fine live your life

But be SO FR OKAY the scenes where dick is explicitly like “what are you doing”

“I don’t like this”

“I feel uncomfortable”

Are very obviously not him cracking a joke. It’s just him being like a normal person who does not want people looking at him like a ribeye

-oh but dick slept with babs b4 his wedding to Kori. Okay and babs has been pregnant with Bruce’s child, and been married to Tim.

Dc writes out of character shit to keep the plot moving we been knew, literally everyone agrees it’s not in character for him and it’s never been in character for him

I usually don't talk too much about it cuz it's kinda an awful trope to be honest, but, I was seeing this so much lately, and I just can't with this-

The amount of people who think Dick has had many partners and is a playboy when many of the women (and some men) they use as examples are women who have kissed or touched him WITHOUT his consent is... It's horrible.

I don't know why people think it's normal or a "reward" that so many people have crossed Dick's boundaries just because they tend to portray these people as visually attractive.

Today I just saw a compilation of this kind of situations, and there were 35 photos, and many more were missing. Each image was more uncomfortable than the last.

TW: I'll post some of the comic panels on this topic, they get progressively more uncomfortable, it's nothing that explicit, but still.

There are many more (like Catalina or Liu panels), that are even more explicit situations, but I think this gets the point across.

I saw people trying to justify Dick being a playboy by saying that maybe he hypersexualizes himself in response to trauma (a real response, it can happen), but this would make more sense if the authors did it on purpose and with that intention, but that is not the case. They don't sexualize Dick's character to give depth to his trauma, they barely even talk about it AT ALL.

So that definitely doesn't excuse it, at least not as a justification from the authors, now if they use it as HC it makes more sense, but only thanks to the fans' interpretation. If it were entirely up to the authors, there is no reason for Dick to be sexualized, not beyond fanservice.

And I hate it.

It's very different to create a sexy character than to sexualize them to the point of objectification.

Like I love an AU right so if you wanna write about if war games never happened and Gotham didn’t try to ruin itself once a week cool fine slay (keep Dick self destructing for years it’s good content idm)

But for the whole tarantula thing to HAVE an impact I feel like you have to acknowledge that he it never would have happed to a character as weathered as Dick (even at the time when a solo nightwing was supposedly more new to the scene)

But like no it only works when you see how many people died bc of blockbuster and how that weighed down on him as a person.

Blockbuster didn’t just ‘discover his identity’ Maxine Micheal’s was a big reason it happened and when Nightwing confronted her she got shot in the head in front of him

Dick figures out that they know his identity Like 4 issues before the blockbuster confrontation

When Firefly makes his first reappearance since no mans land to burn his circus down

This was after Babs, Tim and Cass had all been targeted

And then 1 issue later

Dick leaves earlier (and makes a bad daywing pun no im serious i love him) for patrol and then watches his apartment blow up. Which would be angsty by itself if you ignore the fact that

1) the dude (yoska- and they have like a weird relationship bc of ras al ghul and like he firmly believed he was dicks grandfather biologically and even when that was proven false he moved to bludhaven and admits he still considered them family) teaching dick his own language was in there

2) dick found his dead body in the rubble

3) dick actually bought the apartment building to keep it from being demolished and indirectly kept all those people in the building

Anyway you don’t NEED to read the comics imo as long as you engage with the other content like yeah you’re a dc fan if you like any of the animated properties but like why write about a plot point without knowing the surrounding moments doesn’t that take away from the premium angst content?

+ I didn’t really like or finish war games or his whole like let’s join the mob thing featuring the unironic name “crutches” after but come on the deathstroke and rose shit was so interesting!
