aragorn needs to be 10x weirder in all tolkien content. he’s too manly for elves. he’s too elvish for men. he roleplayed his crush’s grandpa, and then married her even though they were kinda siblings by adoption. he deals with his feelings by singing. he’s a horse girl. he was raised by elrond peredhel. he had the weight of the world placed on his shoulders when he was still an emo teen. everywhere he goes people think he’s lowkey a freak. let him own it.

Warner Bros isn't trying to promote this movie anymore, apparently, so I guess I'll have to do it. They just dropped this incredible song less than a day ago and I am feral. I will not apologize for the person I will become after December 13th. This looks incredible.

my favourite kíli/tauriel hc is that when kíli first saw tauriel, he thought she was a guy because he was always told growing up that elves were very tall and feminine and when tauriel saw kíli for the first time she assumed he was a woman because he's fairly tall by dwarf standards and has no serious beard to speak of and he matched her image of dwarrowdams

Basically I like the idea of this being them vvv

Gimli meeting a hobbit that looks strangely like Thorin Oakenshield but has the last name Baggins before connecting the dots:

I had such an experience of swimming with giant sea creatures and they are so GENTLE while you tiny funny thing are around

and the feeling they produce in you with their presence, the calmness and imperturbability especially when above water it is stormy and restlessly

this is unforgettable

To anyone who believes fairy tale romances never happen in real life, may I remind you that JRR and Edith Tolkien met and experienced a forbidden love in their youth, and then were separated for five whole years because of his guardian’s rules that he could not date till he was 21, and she got engaged to someone else only because she assumed he’d forgotten her and lost hope that she could ever be with him, but then on his 21st birthday, he wrote her a letter saying he still loved her and wanted to marry her, she responded basically saying ‘if I’d known you hadn’t left me on the shelf, I would never have said yes to anyone else,’ then a week later she greeted him at the train station and then immediately dumped her fiancé, and they got married and she converted to his religion and danced for him in a flowering field far away from the trenches into which he was drafted, which left such an impression that he crafted an entire story about the most beautiful maiden in the world who danced in the woods and made enormous sacrifices to be with the man she loved, and they had four kids and remained faithful to each other and blissfully grew old together and their gravestones are now marked with the names of that same fictional couple that he created, who broke every rule and overcame every possible obstacle to be together and get a happy ending, who only did all that because he based it all on their own real love story.

I had a fantastic time working with Jack Stockdale-Haley of Jack of All Blades! It’s a huge testament to his skill and patience that we were able to get these clips despite my complete lack of stage combat experience!

The fact that The Hobbit is such a lighthearted family-friendly book, especially when compared to LOTR, actually breaks my heart when you consider that it is Bilbo’s writing. That journey was anything but a fun trip for him. He went through real dangers and horrifying moments. He saw violence for the first time. At the end of it, he lost his love. And he went home traumatized, heartbroken, and forever changed.

Yet when he wrote the story down, he emphasized the more successful and fun parts, and glossed over the depth of his pain and grief when the losses happened (even leaving Fíli and Kíli’s deaths to a throwaway line.)

Because what else could he have done? Nobody else could possibly understand his pain. Bilbo wasn’t like Frodo. He didn’t have a Sam who he shared the experience with and could talk to about it every day afterward, to help him work through writing down the details of the darker parts of the story. And his other friends lived far away and could only visit occasionally.

And the hobbit children were all full of wonder about Elves and dwarves and trolls, so he put the focus on that.

I feel like that was his way of dealing with his trauma.

Talking about Sam Gamgee just reminded me that if we’re going to look at LotR/Hobbit parallels that Bilbo is actually Sam, with Thorin as Frodo. 

Bilbo/Sam parallels:

- Both were brought along as an afterthought because Gandalf had a nagging feeling that the Quest would fail without him.

- It’s not “their” quest, they’re mostly observers of someone else’s nobility and drive, but when disaster strikes they take charge and are ultimately responsible for the quest succeeding at all. 

- Both see themselves as “just” hobbits, somewhat pastoral and “average” compared to the epic heroism they’re witnessing. 

- Both bear a great deal of affection for a certain dark haired, blue-eyed person who is the focus of the quest, sob at the thought of losing them, and are generally in awe of their nobility (yeah of course I included Bagginshield and we are absoLUTELY treading into movie canon now because book Bilbo has no awe for Thorin at all, lol, not to mention the Thorin/Frodo parallels are visually striking only in the movie)

- Both are incredibly resilient against the Ring, able to take bear it and cast it off with barely any resistance (Frodo couldn’t even throw the ring into his own fireplace before the quest even began). 

- Both followed their companion across the world, with only mild complaining ;)

rewatching lotr, and rewatched the hobbit trilogy like 2 weeks ago, and i must say. i love this franchise for all its “i knew a guy who knew a guy” relations. like to give just one example, gimli presumes for a second, like the whole fellowship, that frodo got injured by the cave troll in moria. but he’s actually just fine! because frodo just happens to be gimli’s dad’s boss’s situationship’s nephew, and therefore has the mithril shirt that gimli’s dad’s boss gave to his situationship right before gimli’s dad’s boss led the company to battle against, among others, legolas’s dad. legolas’s old situationship from like last year (60 years ago) was also there and chose, get this, gimli’s dad’s boss’s nephew over him. i love yall
