SCHOOL SPIRITS (2023-) S02E08―Fire, Talk to Me
Watering down Scorpius leaving the dark world SOLELY because he didn't have Albus... is defimation of his character.
He would've done it even without Albus as an influence. He might have not succeeded, sure, but he would've TRIED anyway.
Scorpius disliked the dark world because it was everything he was raised to be against. He didn't care if he was popular or respected, he knew the world was wrong and needed fixed.
I just think saying "he left the darkworld despite him having a good life just because Albus wasn't there!!!" Isn't true to his character and kinda waters him down to his relationship with Albus. He's a good person through and through, he would've tried to save the world no matter what.
Again, I do still think without Albus in his life he wouldn't have succeeded in leaving the Dark World (he wouldn't even be there if he wasn't friends with Albus but yknow), I mean he's an extremely angsty boy already, imagine if he didn't have that one good thing in his life. Also he probably would've gotten caught by the dementor with no happy memories to cling to. But the point is he'd make an effort and would probably join the remaining Order.

one of my favorite details in alex and erik’s version is how despite albus being the one to initiate their separation (unwillingly but still), you can see him actively searching for scorpius throughout. And he actually turns around and takes a few rushed steps to scorpius before the staircases are dragged away

However, when he rounds the corner that separates the kitchen from the living room, Darry’s suddenly reminded of a promise he made to his father all those years ago.
Soda hadn’t even been born yet, but Darry remembers his father crouching next to him as he tucked Darry in that night. He can remember gripping his Spider-Man figurine that night as his dad ran his fingers through his hair in thought. He can remember his mom coming into his room too, but staying by the door as if she didn’t want to interrupt whatever important conversation they were about to have - well, as serious as a conversation a four and twenty-four-year-old could have.
“You excited to be a big brother, Junior?” Darry had nodded excitedly, his eyes growing huge and suddenly he was no longer sleepy. It was a fool’s question to ask and, honestly, his dad should have known that. As soon as Darry found out there would soon be a second little Curtis, he’d been running around the neighborhood telling everyone who would listen.
His dad had simply chuckled at the answer and, looking back, remembering the hardened look in his dad’s eyes, Darry thinks the older man knew how hard things would be for his boys in the future. “You have to promise me something, okay, Junior?”
Darry sat up at that. As a kid, he had loved making promises for some reason; he took them as a vow, even early on. “ ‘Kay!”
“When the baby comes, you have to take good care of him, okay? Mama’s gonna be real tired and I’ll have to help Mama out, so sometimes we’ll need our big boy to help out with the baby. That's alright with you?”
“...Huh?”
His dad sighed, biting back a smile. “After the baby gets here, Mama’s gonna be in bed a lot; she'll be real tired. So you and I have to take care of the baby together, think you can help me?” And those were the magic words. ‘Help me.’
“Yeah! I help you! I’ll show him my favorite toys and I’ll teach him how to play catch and soccer and-” Darry had begun to move the covers off of him, tossing the Spider-Man figurine to the side, so he could go prepare for the baby.
“Woah, there Einstein! Calm your jets,” his dad put a hand on his chest, all but forcing Darry to lay back down. “The baby won’t be here for another week or so, kid. We have time to get ready, I promise. Can you promise me something else, though?”
Despite the pout on his face as he laid back down, Darry nodded. “When the baby does come,” his dad explained. “Your mom and I are going to be really busy taking care of him- I know, I know, you’ll be taking care of him too. I know that Junior,” Darry grinned victoriously at that, far too glad to be getting his way. “However when the baby gets here, we may not have as much time to play with you anymore.”
Darry can remember thinking, that’s it? That’s what his dad was making a big deal about? “It’s okay, Daddy,” he’d said like he had already thought long and hard about this ages ago. “I’ll play with the baby instead.”
Then his dad got a constipated look on his face that older Darry can now recognize as his look when he’s trying to decide which battle to pick. “Sure thing, buddy. But the thing is, babies are loud. They cry a lot, right? And since the baby will need our help, I need you to promise me you won’t ever get mad at the baby, okay? I want you to come find me if you get mad or annoyed with the baby, okay?”
Darry had had a lot of questions then. Why would the baby cry? Darry may not have every toy he wanted, but he’d say life is pretty good, he doesn’t really have a reason to cry. Also, why would he ever get mad at the baby? Darry wasn’t completely sure, but he thinks he’d been a baby once and his dad never got mad at him. And, Darry planned on being just like his daddy when he got bigger - he has his dad’s name for crying out loud, he kinda has to be like him - so he won’t get mad at the baby either, he promised that.
It’s this promise that Darry thinks of when he sees two cowering figures standing in his living room. It’s this promise Darry thinks of when he realizes the figures are Ponyboy and Johnny Cade.
It’s this promise that has Darry moving closer to them before his mind can even begin to overthink if Ponyboy wants to see him. Evidently, his mind didn’t need to think too hard, because Ponyboy lets out a choked gasp as he pushes past Johnny and all but collapses into Darry's chest.
“Yes, well, we probably should sit somewhere else. Come on, Albus.”
“No, I like it here. You go on.”

the lovely @bawbawbridgie kindly informed me that all of the songs in the score are songs written by Imogen Heap. she also noticed that that most of the lyrics fit the scenes they belong to. so here's a little edit I made and some things that make me go feral about this sequence :)
everytime i listen to this i imagine the lyrics are Scorpius' thoughts
the NAMES. Staircase Ballet. they are literally dancing around each other, separated but remaining in each other's orbit. Half Life. they feel incomplete without the other. they've lived the last several years at school, practically inseparable, and now they forbidden from even being near each other
Scorpius' devastated confusion. it's the same expression he wears when he confesses "Sometimes I wonder if they're right. If I am the son of Voldemort." he's so tired that part of him wonders if it's him that wrong
the lyrics "the stickler is you played not one beat wrong, you never promised me anything" - i'm imagining Scorpius, not yet out, hanging onto whatever he can. he doesn't imagine that Albus returns his feelings, but he loves him so much that he'll bear anything to be with him in any capacity
the PINING

"will you ever slow down, will i ever come first?" - thinking of this as a precursor to the "Try my life" speech in the library

the pining and agony of "you know you'll never be lonely, you know you'll always be loved, and maybe you never need more than that"
poor Scorpius, whose only family is his father (i have a headcannon that he's disowned the blood maniacs he's related to) wishes he had a family as large and tight-knit as the Potter-Weasley-Granger clan
(thinking about the library speech again) even when everything else is horrible, Albus has people who love him
"maybe you never need more than that" - my translation: "Maybe you don't need me." Scorpius loves him despite the overwhelming belief that Albus will never love him back in the same way, and he can't help it
"but for the surplus that loves, what's to become of us? does it even register on your conscience?" is the lyrical equivalent of the library monologue's "Can you imagine what that's like? Have you ever even tried?"
the use of the word "surplus," as though Scorpius' love for Albus is an unneeded, unrequited excess
Another favourite is OBVIOUSLY scorbus which is the ship between Scorpius Malfoy and Albus Severus Potter
In their original 2 parter versions they were written as best friends and Scorpius ended the show by asking Rose out, however when the 1 parter was released this was changed and it has since been changed in the 2 parter as well. Some people still aren’t aware that scorose is no longer canon and scorbus now is.
Along with removing scorose they also made several other changes to make Scorpius and Albus’ relationship less platonic since actors and fans had been asking for years.
Scorpius is nerdy, sweet and goofy. He loves sweets and homework and is thrilled when he’s compared to Hermione Granger. Just like his father, Draco Malfoy, he has platinum hair, grey eyes and a pointed chin. He also has his fathers nose.
Albus is the second son of Ginny and Harry as well as the middle child. He is the only Slytherin in his Gryffindor family. He hates quidditch, Hogsmeade, Hogwarts, Hogwarts Students and, according to everyone else, Gryffindor. Albus has a rough relationship with his older brother, his father, his cousin and all his classmates except Scorpius. He also tends to struggle in school. He’s described to look about as much like Harry as Scorpius looks like Draco. Back when Albus was straight he still managed to get absolutely zero bitches.
So here's what I noticed also was sitting in the 4th row of orchestra section so I was really close to the stage.
Act 1
Rose and James hug when the Granger Weasleys arrive.
After Albus leaves for the train Ginny reaches out for Harry's hand and he grabs it. (not that serious but I just adore them)
During the wand dance (didn't notice this the other times I went) Polly whispers "you're an embarrassment" "squib" and "get away" to Albus and when he tries to go to Rose for help quickly she makes a face at him and turns away.
Ginny laughs with James when she sees his hair a mouths "invisibility cloak" with him.
Ginny raises an eyebrow at when he goes with the love potion and blanket then Harry nods at Ginny as he goes to give Albus the blanket and that's when she turns to leave.
Albus sniffing Rose when Scorpius says she smells of bread then shakes his head no.
Scorpius does a little bow after Albus calls him an enormous geek.
When they see the trolley witch Albus grabs Scorpius' hood and tries to pull him back but he also just keeps a constant hold of him until the jumping off part.
When Amos threatens them and Scorpius pulls Albus towards him, Albus holds Scorpius' hand on his shoulder then motions for them to leave.
After Delphi kisses his forehead Amos looked dazed for a bit before he continues.
Draco tears up a bit and covers his mouth after saying Scorpius is his sole heir and only family.
When they're looking at Hogwarts from the edge of the forbidden forest and Scorpius says "...just like Harry Potter. And I got his son." Albus looks down and turns his head from Scorpius
Then when he says the "I'm nothing like my dad" line Scorpius tilts his head to the left and right and then tells him that he's better.
Hermione leans in towards Ron when he keeps repeating love/lovely then catches herself and shakes her head.
Scorpius was reaching a hand out to Albus after the hospital wing scene but quickly pulled back and flinched when Harry said he's all cured.
Scorpius constantly reaching out for Albus during the staircase ballet and Albus looking and waiting for Scorpius first before quickly turning away.
Craig turning around, shaking his head, and shrugging after hearing Albus and Scorpius are in the girls bathroom together. I love a king who minds his business (he definitely wanted to gossip about it with though)

Omg: I saw an absolute stunning show yesterday in Hamburg and the emergency cover of Albus, Nikko Forteza, was amaaazing. There were so many small scorbus coded details in his acting. It was insane:
A few examples:
- At the owlery when Scorpius and Albus sit next to each other, their hands were almost touching. In an glimpse of an eye Albus tries to grab Scorpius Hand but stopped.
- When Scorpius told Albus at the owlery that he wasn't by his side in V-World but he was fighting with him in his heart, Albus comes sooo close to Scorpius' face and he turnes his head a little...like they almost kiss until Delphi disturbs.
- don't have to adress the heartbreaking screams when Delphi tortures Scorpius
- In Godrics Hallow, when they hide because James and Lilly showed up Albus cuddles into Scorpius chest.
- Albus told Ginny in St. Geromes that he thought he likes Delphi and she's like, yeah but now you're getting clear about some things, he turns around and looked up to Scorpius who's standing at the front door of the church.
- During the fight albus walks over to Scorpius at the left door and grabs his face to get sure, he's okay
- After their last hug, when they separated he does the self-hugging at the stairs and also kind of a winner-pose. Just like "yes, he's my boyfriend now".
There was sooo much tension between Scorpius and Albus. I freaked out!
So late to this but wtf
