In recent years there is a charity look-alike competition based around the Wayne family, and at the end a big picture is taken with the family and the look-alikes standing next to each other. Now, the thing about this competition is that everyone jokes about it being a way for Bruce to scope out any black haired blue eyed children that he might want to adopt.
Danny entered as a joke, 100% not expecting for anything to come out of it. Sure he matched the signature look, but so did a hundred other people in Gotham. There was no reason for him to be picked out of everyone that applied. Of course that is what he thought before he was standing on stage next to his look-alike.
It gets even worse for Danny when everyone starts saying that he is the closest doppelganger they’ve ever seen, and questioning if the two are actually related to one another. These comments would be something he would just sweep under the rug, but now the whole Wayne family is looking at him with curious eyes.
I see and accept the "Danny gets adopted by the Bats and tries to hide that he's Phantom" but I raise you that if Danny had a choice in the matter he would choose to live as a civilian with The Flash, due to it being well known that the Flash is a sceptic, and thus would not clue in to Danny's ghostlyness.
What Danny doesnt know is that the Flash isnt a sceptic. Not anymore. Kinda hard to seriously deny it now since hes been through so many magic based disasters. He just pretends to keep up the sceptisism to make evil magic users lower their guard around him.
So yes, he does come to the conclusion he might have just adopted a powerful sorceror or ghost. He has NO IDEA what to do about it though, so he might as well pretend he didnt see the kid's entire hand phase through a cupboard door.
[Group Chat: Batfam Surveillance]
Red Robin: There's a new meta in Gotham. Looks like a ghost.
Nightwing: A ghost? Are we talking actual ghost or just someone who really needs to hydrate?
Red Robin: Actual ghost. He's glowing. I'm running scans now.
Batman: Keep him under observation. Gotham doesn't need more problems.
Robin: I can handle him. He's probably just another foolish vigilante.
Signal: He's flying. I just saw him phase through a building. Pretty sure he's not a "foolish vigilante."
Oracle: I'm pulling satellite footage… okay, weird. He's fighting something. A… green blob?
Red Hood: Blob? Like Clayface's cousin?
Red Robin: Nope. That's ectoplasm. 100% ghost confirmed.
[Danny Phantom has joined the chat]
Danny: Uh, hi? Could you not stalk me? I'm just here for the blob.
Red Robin: … How did you get in this chat?
Danny: Hacker friend. Don't worry, I'll leave. Nice to meet you guys! Also, tell your caped guy to stop brooding on the rooftops; it's creepy.
Batman: …
[Danny Phantom has left the chat]
Red Hood: I like him.
Danny Has Bat-wings
Part 2
Clockwork would regret the day he taught Danny shapeshifting. The ancient time ghost thought it was wise to educate the prince/apprentice to change his appearance at will to better blend in when he traveled across universes.
Add that to the fact Clockwork has been very lenient with the prince and let him cross as amny universes as he desired.
Danny had learned how to make small alterations so far. He started by making himself taller than clockwork but after struggling to cope with low ceilings he stopped. He resorted to using tails and ears of many kinds. He usually took the time to study any animals he wanted to copy and use their traits after figuring out how they worked. He is still years away from a full transformation as this mentor said but he was determined to master at least one.
Danny's greatest discovery so far are wings. He made a full set of wings, bones and all. Although he hasn't figured out feathers (look they are more complex than patches of fur!) so he has bat wings.
Danny was more than proud to show them off to clockwork, practically bouncing off the walls as he darted back and forth.
"Very good Daniel." Clockwork said putting a hand on Danny's head and stopping the boy from moving. "Perhaps you can focus on learning to use your extra limbs now.."
Danny rolled his eyes. He already knew how to fly. He was literally doing it now. Is it really that hard to flap your wings?
Danny took it back, flying is hard.
He had found the rooftops of Bludhaven a good place to practice. Danny understood now why birds pushed their chicks out of the nest as he had to jump off roofs to get enough air to fly. Well, he wasn't flying, yet it was more flapping wildly until he could soften his landing.
Bat wings aren't really made to sit on your back comfortably so Danny had to wrap his wings around his body like a weighted blanket.
Danny learned quickly that dropping down alleyways and having his wings covering him caused people to panic and run. He didn't even get a chance to say sorry. Other times they attacked him calling him "The Bat" or "Batman", which is first off rude, and second, they could have at least called him a vampire or something.
News traveled quickly in Bludhaven right to Detective Grayson that Batman was in town. Which was weird because Bruce should be on a case right now. So it was Nightwing's job to see what was going on.
This "Batman" was clearly not Bruce. Any Gothemite worth their salt could tell that but the people of Bludhaven aren't familiar enough with bats. Speaking of bats, the "Batman" was more of a bat boy. Had ManBat had a kid, probably not.
The kid darted around and jumped from roof to roof with ease. After a few hours of practice, he'd wrap his wings around him and take a quick nap.
Usually, Bruce would demand a file be made on the kid and give him the 3rd degree on why he's here but this was Nightwing's territory. And he thought the kid was harmless if not a bit goofy.
Dick decided to stay quiet on this and letting Bludhaven have its own little Bat Boy. What's more entertaining to watch the kid learn to fly and failing when he tried to land.
A pair of mad scientists, just the kind of deranged he would hire normally, had built weapons that were...far more effective on him than he'd anticipated. Also, he hadn't been there to fight them at all. They were a true unknown, coming out of nowhere equipped to deal with the Demon Head himself.
Ironically, from what they had started shouting, he wasn't who they were hunting.
He'd been knocked unconscious by what could only be described as pure dumb luck.
He woke up strapped to a table, as those selfsame scientists started peeling him apart with scalpels.
His torture is interrupted when a young boy walks into the basement, sees what his torturers are doing to him, and screams.
Then the boy pivots, and off the top of his head, creates a distraction to pull his parents away from trying to see how Ra's works.
It's admirable; someone so untrained able to think so quickly. It's clumsy; the equivalent of a child pointing at something and screaming as a distraction.
It's just what was required for the boy to remove his restraints and hand him...a vial of the purest Lazarus Water he's ever seen.
"You're already like, really liminal, so it shouldn't kill you, just heal you. But you need to drink it fast, before they come back!"
And like that, it clicks.
The mad scientists are hunting someone as 'liminal' as him. Their son's eyes are glowing green.
Normally, Ra's would drink the Lazarus Waters and slaughter the scientists and anyone they were allied with.
But.
This is a debt.
He'd been waiting for the two scientists to leave so he could free himself, but this boy had stepped in.
Now he owes the child.
He can tell just by looking at the boy that killing his parents is not going to be considered paying back the debt.
However.
This boy is in clear and present danger with those two lunatics about.
So.
As the adult, is it not Ra's responsibility to make sure the boy is safe, whether he wants it or not?
Instead of killing the scientist parents, he knocks the boy unconscious and takes him to Nanda Parbat.
After all, there is nowhere safer than under the Demon Head's protection.
Just to be sure, he adopts the boy as his grandchild.
Now nobody will dare to touch the little hero.
~~~~~~
Danny wakes up in an assassin compound so soaked in Ectoplasm that he can't phase through it, and the ectoplasm in question is so contaminated that it's making him sick, so he can't punch or blast through it either.
He's trapped in a gilded cage by a madman who's insisting that it's all "for Daniel's own good", and his only chance at escaping is telling the little kid, Damian, stories about Amity. Stories about his friends and family.
Stories that he can't make obvious are cries for help, but entertaining enough for a kid to pay attention to.
Stories that will, hopefully, make it to the kid's father.
Who is, apparently, the Goddamn Batman.
Somewhere along the way, the kid starts calling them brothers. It sounds like the kid believes it with his whole heart.
And Danny...Danny's too selfish to correct it.
He lets Damian believe that Danny is his older brother by blood.
~~~~~~
Damian has an older brother, hidden away in Nanda Parbat, who is sickly and weak, and to whom the Demon Head himself is indebted.
Damian has always thought that Danyal was in the best place for him; away from the unnamed hunters that Grandfather said stalked him outside of the compound.
Recently, though, Damian is. Rethinking this.
Why was Danyal so sickly? Why did he always look so sad and desperate?
Perhaps it is time to tell father of his sickly older brother who physically could never meet Grandfather and Mother's standards to meet the Bat.
If a website has a paywall, like New York Times, DO NOT use the ctrl+A shortcut then the ctrl+c shortcut as fast as you can because then you may accidentally copy the entire article before the paywall comes up. And definitely don't do ctrl+v into the next google doc or whatever you open because then you will accidentally paste the entire article into a google doc or something!!!! I repeat DO NOT do this because it is piracy which is absolutely totally wrong!!!
Chapter 3: The Bat Strikes Back
previous/next Masterpost
Danny had almost convinced himself that the incident at the café had blown over.
Almost.
Then, on his way back to his dorm, he felt it—a prickle of awareness down his spine. The same feeling he got when ghosts were watching him. But there were no ghosts in Gotham.
So that left one option.
Batman.
Danny picked up his pace. The sooner he got inside, the better. He could already hear Jazz yelling at him in his head. You were supposed to AVOID attention, Danny!
Unfortunately, his paranoia was justified.
The moment he reached his dorm building, a shadow dropped from above, landing silently in his path.
Danny skidded to a stop.
“…Oh, come on,” he groaned.
Batman loomed over him, unreadable behind the cowl.
“You threw deodorant at Bruce Wayne,” he stated flatly.
Danny swallowed hard. “Uh. No, I didn’t?”
Batman held up the incriminating deodorant stick.
Danny sighed. “Okay, maybe I did. But in my defense, Jazz told me to!”
Batman did not move. “Why?”
“Because she’s convinced you both collect traumatized teenagers like trading cards!” Danny blurted out.
Silence.
Then Batman exhaled through his nose, the closest thing to amusement Danny had ever seen from Gotham’s vigilante.
“Go home, Fenton,” Batman said, voice dry. “And tell your sister I don’t adopt random teenagers.”
“…Sure.” Danny took a careful step back. Then another. Then he bolted inside his dorm and locked the door behind him.
He was so calling Jazz.
DPxDC Prompt where when Damian has grown comfortable with the Waynes, settling into the household more firmly, he finally tells them about his late brother, Danyal.
With his family's help, he makes a proper grave for his twin on the Wayne Manor grounds, on a little hill with the best view of the night sky.
Hundreds of miles away in Amity Park, Illinois, Danny's core resonates, recognizing something he's lacked.
Thomas: Son, I have a dark family secret I have to share with you.
Bruce nodding: I'm adopted
Thomas: That's not it.
Bruce nodding: I'm actually the biological son of Alfred and Mother, but you raised me as your own anyway.
Thomas: No
Bruce side eyeing him: You stole me from a park when I was little.
Thomas: No! Geez, you think I would pick you out of all the park kids?
Bruce: Hurtful but fair. What's the secert then?
Thomas: We stole your bother Danny from a park when he was little.
Bruce: No! Not little Danny! He likes the stars father! He was innocent!
Thomas: I know! But I couldn't stop Martha or Alfred! Oh my dear son, I have lived with shame for years! I can take it no longer!
Bruce: You must turn yourself in father. Face justice for what you've done!
Danny standing three feet away: I'm was kidnapped?
Martha: Meh, you fell through a glowing portal of death, and when everyone ran away screaming, Alfred and I just scooped you up and took you home. Thomas doesn't believe us about the portal, though, and has been trying to find your birth family for years.
Danny: Is that why he keeps asking for me to do DNA tests?
Alfred: Yes. Master Thomas fancies himself a detective.
Martha: What's so unbelievable about a glowing white-haired teenager falling from a swirling portal of death and shrinking into a few months old human baby due to his terrible injures? Storks bring babies all the time!
Alfred: I just think Master Thomas isn't as well traveled as he should be. I've seen the same protal at least five times back in London.
Jason had never understood why Bruce had taken so many kids under his wing. It was more trouble than it was worth. He knows that he was a fucking riot as a kid, hard to contain and control. Dick was a bit better from what he heard, but still hard.
Tim was probably the worst of them all. Then Damian and Duke... Really, it made no sense. But Jason never bothered to ask, why should he care?
Well...Maybe now he understands. Because as he stares at this tiny kid, skinny and a gun put to his head by the Joker, he feels a weird pull towards him.
Maybe it's time for him to get a side kick of his own.
