Happy Halloween! Have some last star trek gays for the month

Thank you to everyone who's reshared my work this month, it's been really lovely seeing some of my old work getting some love <3

personally i do think julian bashir is trans, but not in a way that sublimates his genetic alterations into a trans allegory. i think he's disabled and trans at the same time, but i think his rebellion against his parents--the symbolic death of his old self with the name change--that's not about gender, for him, at all.

it's about the incredible violation of autonomy he experienced as a disabled person under the knife of a eugenicist society. it's about the need to reclaim some, any, of the agency that was so completely stolen from him by his parents.

it's about discovering that his entire self was deconstructed and reconstructed, without his knowledge or consent, for the express purpose of being less of a burden on his parents.

because let's not forget that the death of julian's old self was not his decision. it was his parents who killed the old self and created a new one.

let's not forget that human society in star trek is still recovering from the eugenics wars--that just because it's post-scarcity doesn't mean it's a utopia.

let's not forget the multiple episodes where bashir is forced to confront the fact that his "success story" is truthfully a gross reminder of how deeply his society (and his family) hates disabled people, not only shown in how they tried to fix him, but also in the fact that the process so rarely works as intended, yet is still done anyway--and the failures and the ones too far gone to save are locked away! with no connection to general society, and only the bare minimum provision for their physical needs, with no privacy and no autonomy!

and let's not forget that julian sees these people and is torn between the empathy he has for them, and his urge to fix them. and he goes through with this urge on Sarina, "fixing" her to conform to his idea of what she ought to be, treating her as a problem to be solved, objectifying her via "my ideal woman was trapped in this disabled body/mind and i saved her," thus continuing the cycle of violence, because even he can't conceive of a world where the disabled do not need to be fixed. where the violence done to him was wrong. fuck man

Things I’ve noticed are essential in plotting and would probably have saved me a lot of time if I had considered it earlier

The START of your story - how fucked up flawed is your premise/character at the start? what do they have to change? why are they HERE?

The END of your story - How do you want your main character/theme/universe to change after your story? Does it get better or worse? THIS SETS UP THE TONE DRASTICALLY.

What you want to happen IN BETWEEN - the MEAT of it. What made you start writing this WIP in the first place. Don't be ashamed to indulge, it's where the BRAIN JUICE comes from. You want a deep dive into worldbuilding and complex systems? Then your start and end should be rooted in some fundamental, unique rule of your universe (what made you obsess over it?). Want to write unabashed ship content? Make sure your start and end are so compelling you'll never run out of smut scenarios to shove in between scenes (what relationship dynamics made you ship it in the first place?).

The ANTE - the GRAVITY of your story. How high are the stakes? Writing a blurb or interaction? start with a small day-in-the-life so you can focus on shorter timelines and hourly minutiae that can easily get overlooked in more complicated epics. Or you can go ham on it and plot out your whole universe's timeline from conception to demise. Remember: the larger the scale, the less attached your story may get. How quickly time flies in your story typically correlates with the ante (not a hard rule, ofc, but most epics span years of time within a few pages, while a romance novel usually charts out the events of a few months over a whole manuscript.)

Please help me find this one wangxian fanfic: Lan Sizhui pov, I don't remember much of the plot but there was this one scene where Wangxian and the juniors are outside and they also have a child with them I don't remember why and someone flirts with Lan Wangji. Lan Sizhui asks Wei Wuxian why he isn't jealous or something like that and Wei Wuxian is just like "Lan Zhan probably doesn't know how to reject someone" and Lan Sizhui goes to help him out with the child. Lan Sizhui straight up keeps the child in Lan Wangji's arms and calls him Father and calls Wei Wuxian dad and stuff to deter that woman who was flirting with Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian after all that is like "Lan Zhan you were leaving me with the kids???" all jokingly and yeah that's all I remember thank you for your help!

Nope I totally get your point! I think the only sect leader who was willing to call arh out was nmj and tbh... even his reason for doing so is really more cause his dad was killed and not because wrh was yk... slaughtering smaller clans

Am I missing something or is Yu Ziyuan half at fault for the Lotus Pier Massacre? I'm not talking about beating Wang Lingjiao up (understandable). But right before that, beating Wei Wuxian up to the point where he can barely move. And then when she starts beating up WLJ and orders her dead, WLJ escapes past WWX. He totally could've stopped her from setting off that signal flare if he hadn't been whipped with Zidian within an inch of his life.

I know there were a lot of factors and even if she hadn't beaten WWX up to the point where he couldn't do anything, or even if she grit her teeth and bowed down to WLJ (and subsequently cut off his hand), they probably would've found another excuse. But YZY's actions really didn't help.

Their are so many ppl who take yzy and jcs words of wwx as law, despite the fact that both yzy and jc are abusers with a victim complex similar to the size of China.

But that's besides the point, as others have said the Wen becoming powerful wasn't some sudden boost in status, at the point of the story we're in the wens had be destroying hundreds of smaller sects but, the major sects were willingly blind because they thought their status could protect them, both jfm and yzy were incompetent leaders .

I could also write essays abt how horrible of a person yzy really is, That women is an abuser to the max and all her ideals are deeply rooted in classism (see: literally how she speaks of wwxs and his parents or literally anyone else she believes to be lower than her) and disturbingly enough this behaviour is written off by the fandom as a quirky character trait, even worse sometimes her behaviour is excused by a "Oh yk that's just how Asian parents are like!" Like ppl srsly be stooping to racism for this women, But I degress Yzy AND fmg as characters barely get any screen time but I think from a narrative point they display the most public display of the corruption of the cultivation world, yzy is a full on classist, she bullies those weaker than her, commits unjust punishments etc, meanwhile Jfm is silent he sounds nice and sweet at first but in reality he hides behind his status, he's also a classist (many mdzs fans argue that jfm favored wwx over jc but canoncally there is no evidence of that, in fact the man literally tells wwx to protect his son before he dies) he's also willing to be blind to the atrocities around him for the sake of his own peace, and abt the wlj ordeal... Mdzs modern!au where having a wolf cut is the current trend, So Ofc Jyl wants one but yzy lacks any happiness in life to allow her daughter to get it done Therefore, she realizes the only way to get the job done is by inlisting her brothers(wwx) help.

One cut later Jyl comes out with uneven bangs and chunky hair, it's fine though wwx decides to mess up his own hair in solidarity.
