… This book is so dumb in such obvious ways that it makes me think the people who keep recommending it to me didn’t actually read it.

saw on r/detrans that NHS england is setting up a new service for detrans people! REALLY happy to see this.

People deserve the ability to give TRULY informed consent about their bodies and medical treatment! Allowing detrans people to come out of the shadows and share their experiences will help everyone with GD including those who choose to transition, because we'll have more data!

I remember years ago a dear friend of mine got on T and I scoured the internet looking for research to try find out how I could support him/what he could expect from side effects. The main thing I learned (especially from a zine survey created by transmasc people who were medically transitioning which I've linked here) is that the long-term impacts of being on HRT are WILDLY underresearched (especially for trans men).

I would argue that this fits into the larger underrepresentation of female bodies in medical studies (though I'm sure the authors would disagree with me)

"I question how useful informed consent models are when there is hardly any information to consent too" is certainly a sentiment many radfem and gc people on here can relate too. I genuinely respect people like this for doing the work for their communities and find it rlly fucked up that the medical establishment can make so much money off of them while working with data from sample sizes that were much snaller than this because they don't care enough to test it more.

being homosexual and not wanting to sleep with the opposite sex isn’t having a genital fetish you absolute FREAKS, genitals are LITERAL erogenous zones??? that’s called having a healthy sexuality and is uhhh kind of the point of having sex, which is very unlike having an actual fetish that’s directed at an OBJECT (not normal) instead of another human’s literal sexed body (very normal!)

so stop projecting and go cut your internet cables or something

"For the last few years I’ve been trying an experiment. I speak at a lot of feminist events, and often these involve an all-female panel. Often, a man pops up in the Q&A, or buttonholes me afterwards to ask why feminism has to make men feel so unwelcome. Aren’t men’s contributions valuable? Absolutely, I cry with all the fake enthusiasm I can muster – and there is one, huge contribution that men can make to feminism: the washing up. Or the laundry, I’m easy. Or going part-time while the kids are small.

At this point, the light in their eyes tends to die. It turns out that when they said they wanted men to be involved in feminism, what they actually meant was “have someone listen to their ideas about what feminists are currently doing wrong”. Not do a load of boring unpaid work in return for absolutely zero praise."

-Yes, there is one great contribution men can make to feminism: pick up a mop, by Helen Lewis

I was watching a video and there was this ‘joke’. He sees a couple fighting and it seems really threatening and aggressive only for them to start passionately making out and the end of the gag is, ‘this is why I mind my own business.’

And I can’t help but think about how I’ve read about domestic abuse previously being seen as, ‘a personal issue’ a private matter that everyone might know is going on but no one’s really supposed to talk about. It’s convenient for abusive people when others mind their own business, it’s easier to isolate their victim and make them think what’s going on is normal. It’s convenient for them to be able to hide assaults behind the thin veneer of, ‘sex games’.

I kind of don’t think Man Identified Females should be in female sports. They are still females, but they’re females who’re on steroids that in any other context would be considered doping.

I rarely bring this up because it feels like fairly silly and low-stakes compared to all the other effects of american imperialism, but one of the funniest things when Americans deny that living in the imperial core and the center of global cultural hegemony confers them any sort of privilege over people from the imperial periphery is that like. In order for this conversation where you tell me you have no privilege over me to even be able to take place one of us had to learn the other's language, and it wasn't you.

I think the fact that by default the onus of learning the other's language to enable communication is always put on the other side is a pretty significant privilege on the cultural front.
