If you read the fic, leave the kudos. Leave a comment too, if possible. Just do it. It takes a few seconds of your time and it means the world to the writer.

Sincerely, me who just got told that my writing feels like watching a blockbuster movie. I don't care if they were sincere or not, I'll be thinking about that comment for the rest of my life and every time I feel bad about my art, I'll remember that someone once liked it.

Punctuating Dialogue

โžธ โ€œThis is a sentence.โ€

โžธ โ€œThis is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,โ€ she said.

โžธ โ€œThis,โ€ he said, โ€œis a sentence split by a dialogue tag.โ€

โžธ โ€œThis is a sentence,โ€ she said. โ€œThis is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.โ€

โžธ โ€œThis is a sentence followed by an action.โ€ He stood. โ€œThey are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.โ€

โžธ She said, โ€œUse a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.โ€

โžธ โ€œUse a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,โ€ he said.

โ€œUnless there is a question mark?โ€ she asked.

โ€œOr an exclamation point!โ€ he answered. โ€œThe dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because itโ€™s not truly the end of the sentence.โ€

โžธ โ€œPeriods and commas should be inside closing quotations.โ€

โžธ โ€œHey!โ€ she shouted, โ€œSometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.โ€

However, if itโ€™s not dialogue exclamation points can also be โ€œoutsideโ€!

โžธ โ€œDoes this apply to question marks too?โ€ he asked.

If itโ€™s not dialogue, can question marks be โ€œoutsideโ€? (Yes, they can.)

โžธ โ€œThis applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically expressโ€”โ€œ

โ€œInterruptionโ€ โ€” but there are situations dashes may be outside.

โžธ โ€œYouโ€™ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses donโ€™t have a comma after them eitherโ€ฆโ€ she said.

โžธ โ€œMy teacher said, โ€˜Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.โ€™โ€

โžธ โ€œUse paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,โ€ he said.

โ€œThe readers will know itโ€™s someone else speaking.โ€

โžธ โ€œIf itโ€™s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.

โ€œThis shows itโ€™s the same character continuing to speak.โ€

In our lives we know joy, anger, sorrow, and a hundred other emotions, but these emotions all together occupy a bare one percent of our time. The remaining ninety-nine per cent is just living in waiting.

"people who stay up at night are either insomniac or In love" people who stay up at night read gay fanfiction on AO3 what are you on about?

And this is exactly at least part of why I'm rewriting HYLY on Ao3. That and the just all around more secure filtering system.

you read stuff on wattpad for shit and giggles where most of the fics there are reader-inserted ones written in 1st person pov where y/n is a barely legal white girl with blonde hair and blue โ€œorbsโ€ whoโ€™s so smol and fragile that sheโ€™s dependent entirely on this morally questionable guy whoโ€™s killing people for a living but for some reason happens to have a soft spot for her.

you read real actual literature on archive of our own where itโ€™s two middle aged men, who are each otherโ€™s sworn enemies, with tragic past, trauma and strong homoerotic tension. and while theyโ€™ve made each other bleed, killed each otherโ€™s friends and loved ones out of jealousy / possessiveness, lied and betrayed and manipulated, the rawness, depth, complexity and slow burn will keep you up all night, haunt you during your day and possibly change your life forever. and also the sex isnโ€™t just smut. the sex is poetry that puts Shakespeare to shame

Bungo Stray Dogs Fanfic with skk & sskk + RanPoe set after season 2 with various spoilers

~summary~

"What is love, and how do you get rid of it?"

Dazai doesn't typically feel any emotions, at all- or at least he can't understand them. He hates that Chuuya makes him feel emotions, specifically the emotion of love, so he in turn despises Chuuya for it instead.

And it's driving him crazy.

"I won't let you get away this time."

Chuuya is doing his best to get over Dazai, but as usual, nothing goes according to plan for him. No matter how much Chuuya tries to deny it or change them, he can't get rid of his feelings.

So he finally does something different about it.

Or:

Dazai struggles with the concept of love, and his past catches up with him from how he chooses to deal with experiencing feelings and things he thinks he doesn't deserve as someone outside of humanity; and he makes it everyone's problem.
