Came across another debate about the "inhibitor chips vs. no chips" storyline for the clones. Saw the usual complaint that the inhibitor chips are a cop out to absolve the clones of any responsibility for their actions.
Thing is...
For a long time, practically none of the clones knew their actions during Order 66 were influenced by programming via implanted brain chips. Omega was the first clone who for sure knew the chips were even a thing; Tech figured it out and Rex finally understood and fully accepted Fives' claims during Order 66; the rest of Clone Force 99 eventually accepts the truth; and I'm sure Rex got through to the clones who became part of his network.
But that's a tiny fraction of the clones who make up the GAR. (We find out over a decade later in Rebels that apparently the story of the inhibitor chips had circulated, but we don't know to what extent the story spread or if it was ever validated to the general public as more than a rumor.)
So, during Order 66 and for years thereafter, the clones thought they were acting of their own accord.
We never see the clones using the chips as an excuse for their behavior, likely because most of the clones don't even know about them.
And frankly, I find it even more tragic that these loyal, honorable men thought they had freely chosen to turn on the Jedi and others who had been their allies, genuinely thought they were stopping a Jedi coup, when they really didn't have much of a choice at all, not even the option to stop and think about what they were doing before they did it.
And even those clones who DO know what's going on are too horrified by their behavior to even entertain the notion of excusing themselves.
Just look at Rex's face when he's about to shoot Ahsoka. He's conflicted, he's terrified. Rex later talks about the chip and tells the Bad Batch it's not something they can control if it activates; but even then he's sharing that to convince them to choose to remove the chips, not to give them an excuse for their behavior.
And can any of us mistake Wrecker's shame over his actions while the inhibitor chip was activated as him justifying himself? He describes what it felt like, and we know as well as he does that he literally had no control over himself, yet he still apologizes for what he did.
AND THEN we have Crosshair, Mr. "Does it really matter when I got my chip removed?" -
Crosshair knows about the chip, knows what it was supposed to do, had it removed, and still insists that he was in full control of himself and his decisions all along. Even later, when he admits to making mistakes and having regrets, he never blames the inhibitor chip for his actions.
Basically - I have no issue whatsoever with the inhibitor chip plotline. I actually prefer it. Not even taking into account the fact that it makes a ton of sense that Palpatine wouldn't leave anything regarding something as pivotal to his plans as Order 66 up to chance, the inhibitor chips add another layer of tragedy and complexity to the clones in that while we the audience know they have more of their autonomy stripped away from them, as far as the clones are aware the chips don't even exist and they are in full control of their own actions; and the clones who DO know about the chips tend to acknowledge their effects while still not using them to justify their behavior or refuse any responsibility.

Iām gonna just throw this out before it happens:
Even if Sabine somehow āunlocksā the force through hard work, the Jedi were STILL RIGHT to only recruit force sensitive children.
There has only been one episode of Sabine learning to be a jedi so far. Look at how terrible of a time sheās having. Sheās making zero progress, and we know she spent a long time with Ahsoka before quitting because she was making no process.
Why is she putting herself through all this grief with no reward? No idea. Thatās another post.
But the point is Ahsoka isnāt even teaching Sabine what younglings were usually taught. Sheās not trying to get Sabine to deflect blaster shots (bc sheād never be able to) and sheās not trying to teach Sabine how to move things with her mind (bc sheād never be able to). Itās just lightsaber lessons. Something Kanan taught Sabine already just as a Mandalorian wielding the dark saber. Sabine would be doing so much worse if she was in a normal youngling group.
Sabine has only gotten this far because she is a natural warrior. And she still already quit once. Ahsokaās really not helping at all. Sheās just telling Sabine to āfeel itā
And sure! The other jedi masters did that. But they did that knowing that their students actually had a natural ability to feel the force!! Their students knew what they were trying to feel.
For someone who went through the public school system with dyslexia I honestly felt so frustrated and bad for Sabine last episode. Ahsoka and Huyang are telling her to do things she just has no ability to do. At least Huyang is being honest with her about why.
There is nothing more frustrating when youāre struggling and someone tells you to just. Do it better. Huyang and Ahsoka are not giving her any real instruction. Bc there is no instruction. There is no shortcut like there was with reading.
But unlike me and reading, Sabine does not have to be a jedi. She does not have to learn how to use the force. So why is Ahsoka putting her through this? Why is she putting herself through this?
Imagine if the Jedi order did that with little kids? Kids who may not have the option to quit like Sabine did? That would so so terrible for them. Itās already terrible for Sabine. How long did Sabine try the first time around? How terrible did it get, not making any improvement for so long, before she quit the first time? She doesnāt have to be a jedi. If youāre not force sensitive thereās no reason to force it. (Hehe, get it? Force it?)
If Ahsoka wanted a padawan she should have found someone force sensitive and trained them. Honestly this whole thing feels like a cruel joke on Sabine: someone who works hard and is naturally talented at many other things.

The encounter will be lousy and frantic and will come when Ben turns down the alleyway. His face will meet a rough-cast wall and the sunburn will be scraped raw from his cheek. A blaster - no, his mind had touched the outline of something wittier clasped in a damp hand - a *knife* will be pressed into one of his soft places and he will be given the luxury of one breath with which to punch out the futility of this endeavour, that his credits are too few and his life too pathetic to expend the effort of doing him the mischief. Move along, move along.
The shape of the hand that holds the knife is tugging another fibre loose in the hindlands of Benās consciousness as he draws back from the stall. Heās seen the creases of that palm before. Another thing he doesnāt remember.
He walks towards the alley. The first sun drops lower.
The footsteps behind him are as loud as the blood in his ears.
@ihathbenobiwankenobied
Ten years.
āCody?ā
The man nodded once, then swallowed.
Then nodded again.
It had to be impossibleāhad to be a lie. Obi-Wan could still remember his first nights on Tatooine, unable to sleep as he considered all he had lost. He imagined Cody had gone on to serve the Imperials, only to die in the line of duty.
Obi-Wan had mourned him.
After ten years, Obi-Wan had settled himself with the idea of deathāthe idea that the people he cared about most were long gone.
He had grieved for so long.
āI didnāt think I would find you.ā
@catfur-and-greenscales
āSpare any credits?ā Obi-Wan stopped on the spot, feeling a cold sensation creeping down his spine.
He knew that voice as he had heard it hundreds of thousands of times.
With wide eyes Obi-Wan turned around and saw a man, not anyone he could say he knew, but those features were more than familiar to him. Perhaps the Force could have provided him more information, but he dared not to use it to reach for the man. It had been ages since the last time, so starting now was not an option.
For a moment they both were just staring at one another, until the rough looking man lifted his bandaged arm, with a helmet. Obi-Wan could not help himself but ⦠There was no facial scar. And there shouldn't have been, since even after everything, the man in front of him was still wearing the colors of the 501st. This man was not Cody. Of course not.
He should have known better to not hope.
But the seconds their eyes were locked felt too long to Obi-Wan. The tension was broken only when the clone just lifted his bucket a little higher and said:āHelp a veteran to get a warm meal.ā
Obi-Wan wanted to say something, but what could he have said?
So he said nothing. Saying something would have caused him to get engaged to this unknown man. Cursed compassion would have led Obi-Wan to ask questions he had no time to ask while being on an urgent mission.
The few credits he had ⦠this man would have deserved way more than Obi-Wan could have given to him, so withou speaking he searched his pockets and put whatever he could find into the bucket pointed in his direction.
He could not be sure if the man had recognized him or not, but there had for sure been a moment when they both had measured one another.
The Jedi just turned away, his heart beating a bit faster than before. What else was he going to find from this wretched planet?
I know Mark Hamill is too old to play Luke pre-sequel trilogy now and it's probably too expensive to keep using tech to de-age him.
But.
I feel angry on Luke's behalf that he's mostly forgotten about now in canon. Luke became a Jedi and brought Anakin back to the Light Side and it's kinda like Star Wars has just gone "thank you, next" and discarded him?? It's his storyline to rebuild the Jedi Order but they had him mess that up and passed over his storyline to Rey. It's like they've decided Luke's only value was saving Anakin and now that that's done they don't care about him anymore. Justice for Luke Skywalker. He deserves so much better.
Y'know the thing where different kryptonite colors mess with Superman in various ways? How might that be applied to Lexonite/Wordgirl?
Ooooohhhhhh boyyyyyy! Iāve had ideas running around with this since age 8! Mwahahaha!!!!
ITS LITERALLY A WRITERāS FREE SPACE CARD! You can have different colors do whatever you want!! āØāØāØāØ
Itās the best idea ever to have a little mischief. Mwahahaha.
Want an actually evil Word Girl? Sure!
She now is terrified of everything, but doesnāt understand why. But hey! Cool bracelet! And now has to overcome her fears. Yes please!!!
Mr. Big actually mind controls her and thereās no chance of her breaking it without outside help? Definitely!
The sky is the limit! Reuse colors!! Make up your own rules per your au! ITS NEW TERRITORY AND ITS CRAZY! I loooove it!!!!
The new Jenny Nicholson video makes me want to write a Star Wars fanfic based on her experience in the Star Wars Hotel. Amiithia Tope, a wealthy influencer from Coruscant (Jenny's actual choice of "character," if I spelled her name right), trying to help the First Order but getting ghosted by them even as the Resistance tries to recruit her.
Chewbacca escapes because Lieutenant Croy assumed her attempts to warn him that a high-profile prisoner was escaping, come on, were just a youngling prank. On the Baatu excusion, Amiithia and her sister end up doing a mission for the Resistance out of boredom and confusion, but it turns out their Resistance contact gave them inaccurate instructions and they have to check all the crates again to find the Holocron. Amiithia meets Hondo Onaka and discovers she dislikes him. Sammy thanks Amiithia for helping him steal a TIE Fighter even though she never even responded to his text messages. Maybe Lieutenant Croy hears this and Amiithia gets in trouble with the guy she wanted to surrender, which is why Kylo Ren Force-tortures her to get Rey to talk.
Worst cruise ever. There was a support column in front of her table at the dinner show!
