AHHHH SHE'S SO CUTE! When she's off duty, can I huggle her?
I'm late, but happy worldbuilding wednesday! Any favorite animals who've created or modified for your story?
Happy World Building Friday it's a thing now it's fine!
YES
Thistle from Summoning Trouble! She's a moth dragon!
Shes so cute and I adore her! She's a medical alert/service dragon for David (he has a magical deficiency so she lets him know when he's low on magic). She's tiny but has a big personality (steals every scene she's in)
Thanks for the ask!
I know I've reblogged this before, but I want to reblog it again because yeah, this is so real. A trend I've noticed is some people just despise redemptive villains. I'm not talking about people who rightfully criticize badly written redemptive villains. I'm talking about the people who, if you so much as mention the idea of a redemptive villain, will immediatly act as if you've created a major writing error. I imagine this is one of the trends this post is discussing. "It's harder to just let your villains stay evil," It really isn't, actually. At least not from my experience. I say this as someone who has written both. Letting villains remain horrific is very easy, but writing in an arc where said character decides to do better is far harder.
It sucks that sometimes it feels like the only thing I can do to make a character need redemption is say a few mean words, otherwise they'll be seen as "past the point of no return". And don't get me wrong, though redemption stories are also important. I just wish people realized letting horrific characters redeem themselves also makes for great stories, and that there is such an importance for them.
the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible
because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person
from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating
it’s fucked up.
I adore this. You perfectly took symbolism and imagery associated with the heart that would usually be framed as comforting, and distorted it in a way that gave me chills. This poem felt extremely powerful because of that, and I love the haunting imagery you've created here.
Cracks are in the molding of the drywall
where my fingers push in the heart
I'm tired of holding
The squelch it makes when it hits the ground
notifies me of my failure and makes my voicebox
attempt to imitate that horrifying sound
My knees slip in the flood of red from it's exit
And I fall in time with it's beating
Gorey giggles bubble from my mouth
when I end up landing face to face with it
Realizing that this is karma's dealing
👀👀 not gonna name names but SOME of u are sweet and kind and deserve the world and i am rooting for u
Think I sent an STS ask to everyone. If I missed anyone, I apologize in advance! My brain fog causes me to forget blogs at time. And as a pro tip, when people send me asks I always do my best to send one back.
Your poetry is always so gorgeous. The imagery in this one sent shivers down my spine.
I miss when you were in the margins
of my class notes
Your name and mine
held together by a heart and a plus sign
I'd flip through the pages
and know that you were waiting for me
at the end of the hour
with your hands full of wilting wildflowers
you decided to pick up on your morning run
because you didn't know the difference
between alive and dying
Petals fell to the floor
during the trip from your hands to mine
and walking proves to hurt them further
as they shake and quiver in my hands with each step
losing a little part of themselves
the further we get
By the time we get home
there are no more petals left to save
and the stems don't stop their drooping
as we put them into the vase
Water doesn't help them
doesn't give them time
they just brown and fall further
but you take no notice
as you put them on a shrine
with other wilted wildflowers
I am continuing to work on Every Hero Needs a Villain and I am super happy to announce that I'm actually making great progress when it comes to both hero and villain descriptions. Each category has six, with each hero having a villain and vice versa. I hope I've gotten a good spattering of personalities for people to enjoy this way.
Here's a snippet from Straight Shooter's, a cowboy object head:
He can inspire a state of restfulness depending on the color of his scarf. Red is for physical restfulness, purple is mental restfulness, blue is emotional restfulness, green is spiritual restfulness, yellow is instinct restfulness, and sometimes he has a rare rainbow of all these colors. Yet, to do so, he too must also achieve this restfulness for himself.

I am continuing to write Sleep Laughing slowly but surely. I'm getting caught up in making the logs detailed, and trying to get myself to realize, "you need to write the skeleton of this idea before you can go into the depths of this character's suffering". And also, during the first logs he's so weak/in so much pain he's barely concious or thinking straight, so it makes sense why they're not as detailed.
Still, I managed to get extremely good progress for logs 7 and 8. Here's my favorite snippet (tw body horror and agony):
I've come to a conclusion. Even if I am in Hell, it really isn't such a bad thing. It just means I'm being punished, and, if I'm being punished, that means there's a chance to redeem myself, right? Every single agony I experience is a debt being paid, a sin washed away. This pain isn't a curse. No… …this pain is a blessing! It's giving me a chance to repent for everything. Oh God I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I'll never do it again. So please, just let the light take me!
Also, I am looking for beta readers for my stories The Diary of Spinel Bramford and The Breeding Grounds. You can find their descriptions here. If that'd interest you, please let me know!
