THANKLESS JOB: AN UNPROFESSIONAL ANALYSIS

Nathan expects to be thanked, holding himself as a lawman that keeps order on Sanitarium island

This compares keeping literal organs in a fridge and ripping out kidneys to food and nourishment, being harvested and kept in a kitchen. This can lead to the thought that Nathan sees his career as a sick type of sustenance to keep his life in check. Like many characters in the film, when he enters his alternate 'Repo Man' persona, he himself is addicted.

Nathan expects to be thanked for his work, despite the fact that he is viewed as a symbol of fear and hatred. He also is shown to have gotten so numb to the point of barely understanding his impact, instead frustrated by the lack of gratitude he gets from both his boss and victims.

This is a children's rhyme, and coupled with Nathan's act of 'playing airplane' earlier in the song, it shows that in his Repo Man mindset, he is completely unstable and unable to think straight whatsoever.

It's a thankless job! But somebody's got to do it! Like a mop! And a broom! No-one wants a thankless job!

At the end of the song, Nathan loses his smile and his expression falls as he recognizes his actions. This similar to when the helmet is tossed onto his desk, sort of a repeating loss of innocence trope where he is forces to repeat the process of unconscious action and then discovering exactly what he's done.

we dont talk enough about the religious symbolism in repo and how its such a core part of the film. the largos, especially rotti, are quite literally nothing short of Gods. they are worshipped as such, the entire world is at their feet and they hold rotti as a savior. even he himself views himself as one. when he enters the opera and people are climbing over one another just to touch him. how hes telling people to "be healed". the opera is all about having people testify how they were saved and healed by rotti, by geneco. luigi even wears a cassock when he enters to shout how everyone is now saved by them. the symbolism of how they give everyone a new life, and rebirth them by changing them on the inside through surgery. its insane why are we not talking about this.

He is not mad, just disappointed.
