You all realize Feminists have been critiquing "women only spaces" for decades right?
I think often about Audre Lorde's critique of a women only event that welcomed her wife and daughter, but not her son. Because she questioned it - the function and purpose of barring even the sons of Feminist women from Feminist events. Especially the barring of her young Black son, who would otherwise be left alone in the city where he would be more prone to the very violence those same Feminist women claimed to want to change.
Because what functional, forward thinking Feminist purpose does it actually serve to do that? What message does that send to women with sons, husbands, brothers, lovers, friends, who want to involve the men and boys in their lives in their activism? Who want to build a functionally better world for us all outside of the oppressive grasp of Patriarchy? Especially for the marginalized men who often sit at their own intersection violent Patriarchal oppression, that still happens to be Patriarchal oppression despite it not being distinctly misogyny?
What purpose does it truly serve to sequester yourself away into a pocket of the world, detached from those you share it with? What bright and shining future does that really promise you?
as a community i think we should never forget that this weaselly mfer said this with his full chest
the only reason anyone would care about which minority has power over another minority group is to sow division between the two minority groups btw
united we stand, divided we fall
genuinely have had numerous people tell me that as a trans man i'm "a men's rights activist invading trans spaces".
so many people legitimately do not see trans men as trans.
i need people to understand that so many people for some reason have the idea that trans = feminine or woman. it's a real issue.
how are trans men invading trans spaces? this is where we live. and of course we're gonna advocate for our own rights. why wouldn't we? we don't exist to self flagellate because the idea of transsexual and transgender manhood and masculinity frightens you. i'm a trans man. i'm trans. i'm not invading my own community.
If you go out of your way to harass and argue with trans women, you deny them their right to discuss their oppression, and you only ever see the worst in them, you being
Transphobic!
Now, if you go out of your way to harass and argue with trans men, you deny them their right to discuss their oppression, and you only ever see the worst in them, you are still being
Transphobic!
And of course, if you go out of your way to harass and argue with nonbinary people, you deny them their right to discuss their oppression, and you only ever see the worst in them, you are (yet again) being
Transphobic!
No, it doesn't matter if you're a trans woman, a trans man, or nonbinary yourself! You're still being a bigot. Unlearn your internalized transphobia and play nice with the other queers. The fascists hate all of us, stop doing their work for them.
Your issues with masculinity and malehood are not the curse that trans men must bear in order to earn your respect or protection ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
alright im starting to just flat out not trust people who arent trans men/mascs that refer to trans MEN as "tboys" and/or "trans boys"
every time i see that shit its usually tied to some really shitty statement in the same exact fucking post
i might have to start collecting screenshots from now on of what im talking about to demonstrate my point later
but anyway, heres a not so friendly reminder: stop infantilizing us by calling us "boys". its trans MEN or trans GUYS or trans DUDES. you should not be calling anyone a trans boy unless you are familiar with them and they are comfortable with that. because a lot of us fucking arent.
So. Y’all.
These posts about how trans men’s fears about being treated like breeding stock with forced pregnancy and breastfeeding is aCtuAlLy privilege because trans women can’t give birth? And if trans men talk about ‘throwing away’ the ability to make babies it’s really just trans men ‘rubbing’ having this particular set of reproductive organs in trans women’s faces?
I need you to take several fucking seats and even more fucking minutes to reevaluate yourselves.
1: Forced pregnancy is not a fucking privilege and, for some of us, could be debilitating or a potential death sentence.
I’m a disabled trans man and due to some medical issues, I’ve been told since I was a pre-teen that I cannot ever have a ‘natural’ birth. It would destroy my already fucked up body and put me back into a wheelchair and through several more surgeries, all of which are ill advised because, and this brings us to another issue…
“JuSt hAvE a C-seCtiOn.”
Well bozos, being allergic to a wealth of medications including ANESTHETIC DRUGS kind of makes that super dangerous for me. I’ve had a total of three major surgeries in my life and each one resulted in complications because of the anesthesia, and my surgeons all said ‘avoid needing surgery if you can’. Even localized anesthetic is out. (Which is why I’m also one of those non-passing trans men y’all love to claim doesn’t exist! Try getting a doctor to sign off on top surgery when you’re a known liability! Oh yes, that must be part of my mythical male privilege too!)
I’m not the only trans man in the world with medical issues that make pregnancy dangerous. So check your ignorance and your ableism. And none of this even takes the most basic issue into account.
2: Let’s call ‘forced pregnancy’ what it really is. It’s rape. Some of you are expecting us to accept rape as a ‘privilege’. Some of you are even cheering for it.
If I have to explain why that’s a problem? Yeah, no, I’m not wasting my time at that point on you.
friendly reminder that intersex trans people exist and they arent your fucking business and telling us "thats impossible" when we share an experience is entirely unhelpful
im a trans woman with enough of a uterus/ovary to menstruate occasionally. "trans women cant have periods" is not only invalidating to perisex trans women/trans women who can't menstruate but still have a hormonal cycle that causes some symptoms of periods (cramps, mood swings/shifts, etc.) but also invalidates intersex trans women who do have the ability to menstruate
and i shouldnt have to hide the fact i do menstruate to be seen as "valid." i shouldnt have to hide that i used medical bias against intersex people to get my transition surgeries covered and done at a younger age. i shouldnt have to hide the fact i had to go on testosterone because my body only produces miniscule amounts of both hormones but i have severe reactions to estrogen/progesterone that fucks with my body more than testosterone while still needing some sort of sex hormone to be able to live my life normally. yes, this has given me privilege in some areas. yes, it is different from the experience of a perisex trans woman. no, this does not make me transmasc or not actually trans. i do not feel comfortable identifying as transmasc because i am not a man, and even if i was, i presented as primarily male most of my life and was percieved as such. perhaps if i'd had my "female" sex characteristics removed instead, i would identify differently, but my reality is that i live my life as a trans woman, even if i am currently indistinguishable from a cis woman and many people percieve me as such.
It definitely shouldn’t escape anyone’s notice that the majority of “transandrophobia isn’t real and tme/tma language is good actually” people are white. Like there is very much something to be said about a complete lack of awareness of non-white queer people existing, whether they acknowledge it or not. I know full well that everyone posting “trans men are just whiny little uwu soft babies complaining about nothing” are imagining a monolith of trans men/mascs who are all white and will not acknowledge the intersections of oppression that trans moc face. “All trans men have power over cis and trans women” even when the women in question are white. When asked about transphobia facing trans poc, they will mention maybe one or two black trans women they’re able to name to make themselves look like they care about black issues and never mention a single other trans person of colour. Quick, average white tumblr user, name a single black trans man. Name a single black trans male or non-binary artist right now.
the world is a better place with trans men and transmasc people in it
