I feel like there's slight differences between different types of merfolk ofc but here's what Archie (and most merfolk) can do:

Manipulate water; move it around, levitate it, increase or decrease it's temperature, turn it to ice, evaporate it etc

Being immune to having his mind read by Psychics, be it Pokémon or people

Telekinesis.

Becoming invisible for a limited amount of time.

Shapeshift between forms (human and merfolk)

Enhanced voice / 'singing' capabilities. Think sonic screeches and siren song. Siren song gives them the ability to manipulate people's thoughts and actions through words (or singing if you're extra like that I guess). Most merfolk agree to never use that ability, and it's highly frowned upon in most circles. Merfolk who regularly travel to the depths have build up a tolerance / resistance for it though. (I HC the depths of the ocean are extremely hazardous / unfriendly and therefore super dangerous. Doesn't stop some brave souls from wandering there though.)

Enhanced senses underwater.

Can understand Water-types

They're one of the slower healers among supernatural beings. It makes venturing into dangerous situations extra risky.

Archie tastes all of Ree's food creations, despite having a sensitive stomach. That's not to say Ree's creations aren't good or edible, but Archie just has a ton of intolerances (common among merfolk despite blending in with humans.) I feel like once they find out about that, they start making special batches for him to eat that lack the things he's intolerant to.

In turn, Archie teaches Ree some different cooking combo's from the merfolk world and regularly catches fresh fish and dives up sea berries/plants for Ree to experiment with.

There's people staring at them now. At least they slowly return to their meals when Maxie calms down a tad.

"Thanks."

Archie orders, though his choices are limited to only a handful of options due to his stomach's sensitivities. But hey, at least they make gluten and lactose free malasada nowadays. It's still fried, but... hopefully it wouldn't be too bad. He adds a regular, cinnamon sugar coated malasada to the order for Maxie.

When he receives the two doughy treats, he promptly shoves Maxie's into his hands.

"Let's walk and talk."

Cue him just walking off. No need for people listening in. When they're away from the busy streets, he finally speaks up.

"My phone was busted. Didn't have materials to fix it up until today." He holds up a little bag with spare parts. "This is actually the first day I'm outside on my own in months."

   but ‘since when’? one week ago. only within the last year has Maxie finally been permitted to leave Hoenn, and for research and collaboration purposes only. so here he was now, in Alola, to learn more during the next several weeks before returning to the strict oversight awaiting back home. 

   the running into Archie bit was entirely unintentional.

   ❝ can it wait?! ❞ incredulous, the Magma leader's tone remains sharp, irritated. yet, after a second's pause, the accusatory finger is lowered and Maxie scoffs. ❝ you've already kept me waiting for three weeks, i can wait a few more minutes … ❞

After a heated discussion, he had him pinned to the wall-- And they're making out now.

Yeah, this might as well happen. Archie smirks upon the bite, copper taste filling his mouth upon licking the mark.

"...Heh." He pulls Guzma back into the kiss, trying to return the favour of the bitemark, before pulling away briefly. "Nah, fuck you."

Hands press against his throat still, claws digging into skin.

Despite everything, Guzma kept showing up in Archie's room. Call it an attempt of showing off his. Who the fuck knows-- alpha-ness? Remind Archie who's the boss, when all he did was teasing and occasionally get a little too touchy with Plumeria? Fuck's sake-- existing? Who knows. What Guzma knows - both of them, really - is that it was just a matter of time before one of them pushed the other a little too much.

Today it was his turn. A tease too many, he leaned a little too close, and the former Aqua reacted accordingly. Archie's hand found his throat, his own the other's wrist and shirt as they stumbled for a few seconds in a sorry excuse of a wrestling match, one that leads to him falling on the bed and be pressed against the wall (with the hole caused by his punch), and--

--and they're kissing now.

Well, Archie is kissing him, but it doesn't take much for him to return it, groaning as the other's thumb presses against his throat, opening his lips to catch one of Archie's and biting on it to break contact.
