Final fantasy 16 thoughts and mild spoilers

Can’t believe there was never a moment in the game where Clive called his brother Josh. Would have been hilarious.

Also where did the Clive who was just as dotting as his mother go?

When Joshua came back, I thought Clive would do the whole big brother thing he did when he was 15 but then realize he can’t scold his adult brother anymore.

All I want is grown man Clive telling Joshua the silly times they had when they were kids. Fond memories of him and Joshua playing or something. Why don’t they share stories of their youth? The last time Clive saw his baby brother was when he was 10. No comments about his appearance or anything?

Final fantasy 16 thoughts on Clive

Look, I love Clive, but his personality was better when he was a teenager.

From the small, brief cut scenes and information, we learn about our main protagonist when he was younger, he sounds like a such a fun character, the opposite of brooding, dark and serious.

For example, Clive was a total theater kid according to his uncle. Remember that really cheeky wink during his shield ceremony with his brother? Signaling to him that everything will be alright.

I noticed the small animation quirks in flashbacks like with Torgal or the intro, show his really dramatic posture and his interests. Him petting Joshua’s head after the tutorial, moongazing with Jill etc

I understand why Clive changed but I just wish he kept his personality or at least smiled a bit more into his 30s.

YESS

I feel like no one acknowledges that realistically, the two weren’t going to work well together in an environment where there are higher stakes. They both have different life philosophies among other things.

It’s a general life lesson everyone learns but that’s not the point of LC but an interesting aspect/deconstruction of the best friend trope working together.

Link Click & AX

Was not able to go to AX but found this from someone who did on reddit.

This is one anecdote from the director regarding the show.

"...regarding the choice/dynamic of having 2 male MCs: having observed many other media, Haoling decided that splitting 1 protagonist into 2 characters would make for better storytelling. by giving the characters only half of what they need, their abilities are more grounded, they are forced to cooperate socially, it gives the audience more entertaining and dynamic banter, and they must build trust in order to effectively accomplish tasks."

Love this statement. When I would explain to my friends why people should watch LC, I would say its a time travel show with an unique premise. There are two main leads. Imagine both are trying to ace a midterm (you can pair up with a buddy lol). One person has the paper & pencil and the other has the answer key. They can't ace the midterm alone without the help of each other's resources - so they must to work together to ace the test because they can only do it once. What seems like a simple example gets applied to solving puzzles/mysteries and finding data.

The interesting part is that the main leads have very different approaches to accomplishing the tasks that they are given. Even though they were friends for a long time, when serious things happen like working a job together, they struggle with their different mindsets and it causes a lot of strife between them.

Slowly, there became a lack of trust between the leads as both of them start to withhold info from the other. That makes it worse and it hits a boiling point.

Something so simple that happens all the time in real life yet is often never depicted in such a real sense, particularly in an animation format. I like the style of anime but I want my stories to be grounded. I want to see my struggles on the screen.

It's also kinda validating to see a friendship fall apart once you decide to become co workers with one another and realize that just because you two both like basketball, doesnt mean maybe you should run a high-stress somewhat illegal business together right after uni to pay off debt :/

Been rewatching Malcolm in the Middle and something I realized now as an adult was both Francis’ & Malcolm’s mommy issues.

Their issues manifest differently. Francis just complains about Lois and openly spites her.

Malcolm does the same but unfortunately goes down the path where his character seems to be attracted to girls and women much older than him.

I had a feeling in the back of my head that Malcolm’s mommy issues would manifest that way, in a reverse stereotypical daddy issues situation I see in a lot of media as well. However, it’s still really disappointing.

In all fairness, it doesn’t help that the audience grows up with Malcolm and that his actor looks younger than his character’s age.

Link click season 2 Animation

Don’t want to be too nitpicky but the animation for the first two episodes was kinda choppy. Also felt like it wasn’t as creatively directed (animation, background, sound cues etc) as the first few episodes.

Hope it gets better because I loved the teaser trailers - very stylish and I thought it would have the same energy

Undiagnosed, female autism is hyper fixating on famous actor, Marlon Brando, when I do not like his movies, I did not like his acting, and with all that I did everything I could to study and research everything about the actor and his life. This included his unspoken mommy issues to reading his biography and listening to the audiobook that was read by him, watching a really personal documentary that was released 5-10 years ago that really should not be released to public because it was something that was meant for him and his therapist (entirely made from tapes he recorded).

All of my drama class projects that year, all connected to him, or about the golden age of Hollywood movies in the 20th century and all of my projects included him as an actor and some of those movies.

The worst and most confusing thing of ALL was that I didn’t even find him attractive. Again, didn’t like his movies, thought his acting was mediocre, found his personality off putting and personally not my type BUT I Scavenged the entire Internet to find everything documented on the guy - to rumors about him being Bisexual which lead me to that one photo of him with a penis in his mouth (I don’t know if that was photoshopped) to watching all of his really shitty overrated movies.

To reiterate - I hyper fixated on a dead person who I should have not had an interest in but I did :/

I really really really want a 90s/2000s coming of age show like Boy Meets World or Malcolm in the Middle but canonically gay. Like I’m talking 90s cameras, graphics, sound equipment for the full effect. I’m talking full-on sexuality crisis for the main character in the same episode style as all the others, where there is a clear setup and story line and it becomes more of a background thing later on and just becomes so normal for the story and the characters that it’s like it was always there, but can be brought back into the forefront for other episode arcs. And then of course you can put in a romance arc… ;)

What’s the context of the photo???

It’s so random and so out of character but it’s funny.

how r they gonna promote the trio now if one of them is DEAD 😭

Hey I’m confused by the first two words of your response but everything I agree with. People are still finding themselves and in the end, it is speculative media. Either or not intentionally is up to debate (my own East Asian baggage) but I’m interested to hear more about what you have to say.

In the end, it’s my opinion and you may or may not agree and that’s fine.

Unpopular opinions on mlm ships

It’s weird. I’ll watch Banana fish, Sk8, JJK, Buddy Daddies and even Link Click and come to the conclusions that the main mlm ships (Ash x Eiji, Langa x Reki, Geto x Gojo, Kazuki x Rei, & Lu Guang x Cheng Xiaoshi) are all just good friends and have no romantic chemistry.

It’s honestly really jarring to not really engage in previously named fandoms until much later after completing the show and being surprised by people’s interpretations of character interactions.

For example, until Reki and Langa talk about something else besides skateboarding, I don’t see any romantic chemistry. Same with Kazuki and Rei with something else other than Miri and their jobs, Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi with their time traveling, and I think Geto and Gojo just needed more moments together. Ash and Eiji are an unique case, I read the manga first and I didn’t get queer vibes from the story. They also just seemed like good friends to me :/

However, I’ll believe Yuji and Megumi from JJK are totally into each other. I feel like it’s because they had more interactions within the story that suggested a stronger bond than Geto and Gojo. I don’t really get me either.

I don’t get the women who try to make very dark and serious subject matter cute and girly.

Oh when I mean women I mean Banana fish fans.

Super long rant about Link click

I think one of the flaws of the show is how there weren’t enough episodes for the first season to show the audience that the trio are actually good friends and not just co workers who live together and only talk about work.

I’m 50/50 on filler or fluff but some shows do need it to build character development and interactions. The premise of Link Click or Shiguang Dailiren. Not necessarily just because of the travel aspect, but how the three main characters interact with one another. This is not anime where opposite attract magically works where two characters can be very different and the antithesis of each other and still get along, but a more realistic show of how two very different polar opposite’s who happen to somehow be friends, work together doing very serious work and how eventually it leads to a bad end for one of them - because of how their different work styles and values clash at the end.

After rewatching Victorious as an adult, I come to realize that the main cast totally hated each other and it was surprising that they bothered hanging out with each other, if most of the time none of the (female) cast had anything positive to say about each other.

Anyways. As an adult with similar circumstances to the main trio in terms of being recent uni grads, owning debt and having your best friends be your co workers (but not also my housemates), I see their situation as a lesson that I had to learn that - sometimes it’s not idea to owe your close friend a lot of money. Also like you can be good friends with someone who is the polar opposite of you (somehow) but that doesn’t mean you two would be great co workers by any means. I learned this when me and my friends thought it was a good idea to start a club in school and run guest speaker events and all. Turns out it’s really stressful and I don’t enjoy having disagreements with my friends on how to manage money. Becoming co workers with your friends can honestly hurt the friendship because sometimes when you see your friends, you might only talk to them about work if work is really taxing or stressful.

For example, CXS and LG are good friends who are polar opposites in every way possible. They have different values, life experiences and just generally work differently. More often than not, they disagree on many things. Link click shows that these two do not work well together. LG micromanages CXS and the latter still finds ways to mess up. I get the impression that LG has nothing positive to say about CXS because I rewatched this show countless times and noticed how LG has almost nothing positive to say about his friend. The promotional material shows them being close friends and what not, I just don’t buy it. CXS clearly annoys LG. CXS will talk about something non-work related to LG and LG will immediately change the subject back to work. Clearly he just isn’t interested. Also like the whole thing of keeping details hidden from CXS because LG doesn’t trust him is a red flag. He’s told him so many things to stick with the script and CXS doesn’t which messes things up. All this actions should not be happening. This is how you piss people off enough that they don’t want to talk/work with you. This kinda happens at the end when they take a pause and things get awkward between them.

If anything, Link Click is a great example of how polar opposites aren’t always so cool. Because in real life, if you weren’t obligated to work with them and share the same room together, you prob wouldn’t even be friends with them or even talk to them outside of work.

Another thing is that Cheng Xiaoshi owes Qiao Ling (family) a lot of money. That’s just not a good idea and those who disagree, you will eventually come to agree with me. It’s not like oh but they are really good friends and they must trust enough - no it’s just not a good idea anyone above 20 knows. It’s a rookie mistake that everyone eventually makes. Don’t involve your friends with money. Also Qiao Ling is their landlady soooo -

Guys - I’m Chinese, recently graduated and I worked with friends in work place settings (outside of retail) where you had to do very serious adult things. I see Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang clash when they work together and sometimes when you have an argument with your friend about something that happened at work, you want to have that type of separation when you are out of work. They both don’t have that divide since they both work and sleep in the same room. For those who know what’s it’s like to experience you and your best friend being great friends but not so great when you two room together, work together etc you know where I’m getting at.

The friend group was eventually going to fall apart. All of Qiao Ling’s lines are about money or work. Lu Guang had almost nothing positive to say to/about Cheng Xiaoshi during the entire show. Again I know there is the promotional materials but honestly, to the average viewer who doesn’t see that - this might be the impression that they might get. There are cultural differences but there is also just real life.

Anyway this is a lot. This show was dubbed in over 10 different languages but only like 10 people outside of China has seen it. Thanks for reading my autistic rant on a show no one has seen.

Another note

CXS owes QL 10 years worth of rent and he has student loans to pay. QL is his childhood best friend, but also his landlady AND his boss-!

LG is his best friend who he bonded over basketball with and feels obligated to him because of their shared powers. It was noted by QL that LG and CXS are opposites and normally would not be friends.

This friend group was going to fall apart, not because LG was indirectly murdered by both QL+CXS BUT the concept that you owe your best friend thousands of dollars before even graduating uni is wild.

I just feel like the whole QL being CXS’ boss, landlady, debt owner and friend is one giant conflict of interest. LG getting annoyed at CXS’ rash decisions doesn’t help. It’s never a good idea to involve money with friendship.

But in the end, it was murder that split them apart and not bad financial decisions you make when you’re 12.

Rewatching link click rn

I don’t really get how Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi are friends?

Lu Guang keeps things very business and treats Cheng Xiaoshi like his co worker (which they are). However, what makes these two men continue to hang out with each other outside of work? What do they have in common?

Other than the obvious obligation to their superpowers, they don’t seem to have chemistry with one another.

Lu Guang calls Qiao Ling big sister and seems close to her. Same with Cheng Xiaoshi.

has anyone else considered how similar buddy daddies is to monster’s inc, or just me? LMAO

like the whole finding a kid, begrudgingly taking care of her at first, getting attached to then having to let her go. ik it’s a popular trope but it’s still funny

After rewatching episode 9, can someone please write a fanfic about how Papa Kazuki and Rej are going to deal with Miri getting a boyfriend?

Even better give me a second season of Buddy Daddies and have it be the version of Bunny Drop we deserved.

After reflecting on the Buddy daddies finale, the only loose thread was what Miri thought about her two dads.

Does she believe they’re just roommates who will platonically raise her for the rest of their lives? How are her dads seen by her classmates?

Why didn’t they animated a scene when some kid in pre school asks her why she has two dads? Im sorry but there is no way in the 11 years she has been with both Kazuki and Rei, did that question never come up. She lives in Japan, where everyone values conformity. Why is no one questioning her and her family?

I know my questions won’t be answered because of the show’ no homo status. I’m so sure that it’s an unspoken fact in the show that everyone in the show just believes Kazuki and Rei are Miri’s baby sitters - even if it means for life.

If Japanese people (who don’t leave their country) think anything similar to Chinese people (who don’t leave their country), gay people aren’t real so it will never cross their mind at all. Unironically no homo folks.
