Hey shameless plug for Hozier's 2014 album. On its resume is having helped dozens of anxiety attacks, being perfectly in range for an alto or soprano voice and alluding to social justice issues in the songs. Plus it sounds fucking good the guitar and composition and piano and his fucking voice just. give it a listen you won't be sorry.

Being the caregiver of an autistic / disabled person does not give you free reign to mention they still wear diapers.

You aren’t educating anyone when you do that. You’re pity-seeking and you’re embarrassing the disabled / autistic person unless they gave you permission to mention their diapers. If the person’s development progresses in a way to let them be mainstreamed in school (even if part-time), their peers will be relentless. Yes, the stuff you blog is seen by everyone unless your blog is strictly private.

But most caregivers never friggin’ consider that. (Sarcasm) It’s all about them and how they are affected by living with an autistic / disabled person, right? (/sarcasm)

Stephen Hawking managed to go through the last years of his life without the internet knowing what’s under his trousers. I think you caregivers can afford the same dignity to the autistic / disabled person in your life.

If they want to mention their own diapers, fine. That’s their choice. Stop taking it away from them.

If you’re an adult, do the stuff you couldn’t as a kid.

Like, me and my sister went to a museum, and they had an extra exhibit of butterflies. But it cost £3. So we sighed, walked past, then stopped. We each had £3. We could see the butterflies. And we did it was great. We followed it up with an ice-cream as well because Mum and Dad weren’t there to say no.

I was driving back from a work trip with 2 other people in their early 20s, and we drove past a MacDonalds. One of the others went “Aww man, I’d love a McFlurry.” And the guy driving pulled in to the drive through. It was wild. But it was great.

I went to a park over the weekend and I was thinking “Man, I’d love to hire one of those bikes and cycle round the park.” It took me a few minutes to go “Wait, I can hire one of those bikes!”

I guess what I’m saying is, those impulsive things you wanted to do as a kid - see the dinosaur exhibit, play in the fountains with the other kids, lie in the shade for 2 hours - you can do when you’re an adult. You have to deal with a whole lot of other bull, but at least you can indulge your inner 8 year-old.

Yes

Concept: an apocalyptic or post apocalyptic tv show centred on a group of disabled protagonists

Must include:

-enough details about how they survive that no one can call it “unrealistic”

-mental and physical disabilities

-a character who isn’t necessarily contributing to the survival of the group, but is not abandoned or looked down upon

-at least one character whose disability is actually less of a problem for them now that the world is ending/ended (example: autistic character who used to be constantly overstimulated but no longer is)

Optional features:

-abled person says “the only disability in life is a bad attitude” and gets told where to stuff it

-creatively weaponized mobility aids/assistive devices

-character who abled people think isn’t worth helping because of their disability, but actually has at least one skill essential to the survival of the group

-every time an abled person says something ignorant, all present disabled people look into the camera like they’re on the office

an old-world autistic farm maiden in a cabin in the damp wilds, alone with my harp and the thistle and the finches, spinning deep magic into a modest living, helping travelers and plucking bitter herbs for my botanical remedies
