I had a dream a couple of weeks ago that Sophie was the only one kidnapped, and Agatha literally broke out of Gavaldon and trekked through the Woods to go and rescue her, and she pulled up to the Good reception desk (my subconscious did not remember there was not such a thing) looking like absolute shit with mud and twigs and everything all over her like 'hi I think my friend's here I'm looking for her' and whoever it was behind the desk (possibly Anemone icr) was like
But then Dovey started trying to gaslight Agatha into believing she was meant to be there as a student (typical) and Tedros was there briefly but then I gained full consciousness rather than partial consciousness and thought 'well that's not the plot of 2013 hit novel The School For Good And Evil'
so i am extremely happy with the cast and think the choices are so amazing! but iāve also seen skepticism about the choice for agatha, mainly either about her skin tone and that her actress is very, very gorgeous and not at all unattractive like the books made her out to be.
i started thinking about why the team made this decision, and it kind of ties into a feeling i had that some of the themes in sge would be adjusted for the movie. first of all, the whole ugly does not mean youāre evil and you can still be a good person despite being ugly message is just⦠heavily outdated. itās not a message that will reach the audience in this day. because everyone knows that, and i donāt think anyone will find it to be a relatable message anymore especially cause agathaās mainly looked down on because sheās goth and⦠goths donāt get bullied anymore ?? so the plot of the books just donāt WORK for this film especially not in this decade.
so that leads to the question: why is agatha an outcast? why is she treated poorly by the people around her? well, i believe thatās where race comes in. in this age, racism, whether it be in the form of stereotypes, violence, lack of media representation, itās a very big issue and black people are still not being represented properly.
addressing the racism of the real world through agatha, who is shunned by her town, immediately thought of as evil without giving her a chance both in gavaldon and at the school, not seeing herself as a princess or equal to the evers in her class and sophie⦠not because she wears all black and has super pale skin or whatever reason worked in the books, but because of the racism that is persistent in her world and our world.
seeing agathaās story about how she started out shunned and stereotyped and won her own fairytale, her own prince, and respect from everyone as a black woman will be so inspiring to black girls who never saw themselves in stories like these. itās so inspiring of the casting team to make the main protagonist a woman of color and i am so happy someone as talented and wonderful as sofia wylie gets to play our agatha.
for people who are saying that you wish agatha was played by a light-skinned actress or that āwe already have nicola and dot as black women,ā iād advise you to choose your statements carefully. you may not have intended it, but they are fairly racist remarks and you donāt know who you could be hurting by saying this.
and yeah, i can understand why some people may be upset about her not matching her appearance in the books, and i have to say, the books and the movies are separate. the movie is an adaptation of the books, of course things will be changed to make the movie as inclusive and successful as possible without the weight of some parts of the book holding it back. i see two stories: book sge and movie sge. of course each of these will be different in their ways but thatās the beauty of it - the movie is one story and the book is another.

Ok Iāve decided Iāll stop screaming in my posts.
I trust everyone has done the reading ššš
Anyway! To spark the discussion, hereās three questions to start with! reblog or reply with the answer
What is the most iconic line in the first five chapters of TIT?
The best character in the first five chapters beside the trio (the one you find the funniest, the most intriguing one)
Rate the first five chapters on a scale from 1-10, either based on how the rest of the book compares or simply in general
Also, apologies, but I will be tagging everyone who interacted with the og post, if you don't wanna participate, just ignore this!

I just saw this oop-
thank you so much!! I'm glad u like em!!
This is honestly the best example of how Book 1 Agatha was the superior Agatha
I love that Agatha saw the 'magical' side of Evil, it's propably regarded as parlor tricks to the more experienced villains but still, the fact that Agatha was amazed by it was something purely done so by her. She sometimes complimented Evil in her own way and almost never underestimated it.
This was her edge, I think. As a first year and even before that, she never saw Evil as inferior but something equal to Good.
But regardless of that, she also knew when to stop when she's being tempted too much for the sake of greater good.
And I think this is what makes her Good; her selflessness to abandon things dear to her because she knows that it will help others.
She's still very flawed; she can be rude, sometimes smug, sometimes closed minded and is just not going to agree much less follow all of Good's etiquette but she chooses to do Good regardless if she looses something very important to her.
Throughout the books she sort of lost that spark to her personality where she admired the weird and reveled in the things that other people find repelling.
This could be because the plot becomes much more complex and there are no longer times where she could show this side to her again but still.
I kinda wish that we were shown more bits and pieces of this peculiar side of her instead of always being commented about preferring black and dark places. A simple, passionate reasoning would suffice.
The only weird thing that Soman keeps on commenting is her appearance and like, we get it, Soman, she's not the best looking person out there and ahe doesn't really put much effort but be more creative when showing how people see Agatha as kinda different.
Make her wear really weird jewelry, maybe one of Anadil's bone bracelets or make her say something something completely witchy that gets goody-two-shoes Evers a bit uncomfortable.
You know, sorta quirky in her unique, witchy, 'graveyard' girl kinda way.
Reread the last chapter of worlds without princes (book 2) and wHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT??!? What a messy rollercoaster and idk if i wanted to know what led to that point.
Tristan/Yara dying, Tedros tried to kiss Filip/Sophie, Agatha caught them- agatha sophie fighting- sophie reveal- TEDROS FEELING BETRAYED AND GOING TO AGATHA AND ALL OF A SUDDEN "OH I LOVE YOU MY PRINCESS ITS ALWAYS BEEN YOU-" LIKE YOU DIDN'T JUST TRIED TO KISS SOPHIE?!?
GOD AND THE AFTERMATH- oh my god its awful its disgusting- first sophie getting betrayed, THEN KISSING HER MOTHER?!?!?!??!???? HER DECEASED MOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEN THE FUCKING SCHOOL MASTER SHOWS UP OUGGHHH THIS AWFUL WRETCHED VILE DISGUSTING
Now that im older and reread the scene,,, this whole sequence is more fucked up- Sophie crashing out in book 3 is so justified bro id go batshit insane too if that happened to me
No wonder i erased this from my memory, and i wish i never revisited it, this is godawful
school for good this, school for evil that. where's my school for the morally grey?
Wahh now im scared šš its already getting messy with book 3
Just hoping for the best atp
