A rough Doctor Who sketch from 2000 or 2001, done to stave off the boredom of the retail job I had back then. I wasn't allowed to nap, so the Doctor got to instead.
I sketched this clandestinely behind the store's counter in black ballpoint. This scan is color-corrected to counteract the old cheap ink having gone a bit violet over the years. Around 9x6".
Going through my pin collection, I unearthed a "The Hunger Games" mockingjay which I'd purchased in darker times.
I like it a lot more now that I've given it a Woody Woodpecker paint job.
These logos for fictional trendy Web 2.0 sites were made for the latest episode of The Media Show. The show called for a bunch of silly but real-sounding website names which were generated in the manner in which we write many of the show's greatest jokes; blurting increasingly random things back and forth at each other on filming day until we've all hopelessly dissolved into fits of convulsive giggling. I then whipped up suitably shiny icons to match.
"Toop" is pronounced "taupe" because of course it is.
Because we all love visual puns. Made for b3ta's verbular celebrities image challenge.
Speaking of Doctor Who, care to kick my starter?
As my follower count on Twitter approached 400, I mentioned that it might be cool to do a drawing based on the Twitter icon of my 400th follower. Number 400 turned out to be an affable fellow known as @cjp, whose icon was a small photo of himself.
It was then that I realized randomly receiving an unsolicited portrait from some dude off the Internet he'd just begun reading might be perceived as a bit creepy, so of course I went ahead as planned. He seemed to take it well, and I've received no restraining orders.
Felt pen on paper, 9x6".
Daily doodle number four is a quick sketch of the main character from La Linea (”The Line”), an Italian cartoon which as a child I thought was the greatest thing ever. Now, as an adult, I still think it’s the greatest thing ever; this little long-suffering gibberish-spouting cartoonist-pestering guy is just as wonderful to watch today as he was when I was a toddler.
Search for “La Linea” on your video site of choice to watch any of his excellent shorts.
I started playing with recording over my own voice in multitrack, and after about an hour and a half this accidentally happened.
If you're one of the poor unfortunate souls who haven't experienced the glorious original version, here's the video and here's the Wikipedia article. I put together these lyrics based on multiple English translations floating around out there; I think I've kept the basic gist of each line intact.
I have no regrets; if nothing else, at least I actually hit every sour note without pitch-bending or autotuning of any kind.
Download this track here if you're unwell enough to want to do such a thing.
There's a music video now as well.
Doodled this in the laundromat whilst my clothes tumbled.
This is the December 12, 2018 edition of Off the Hook, the hacker-produced weekly FM talk-radio show I’ve been part of for a decade. I was the head producer on this episode, and in it we talk about a few different news stories, but beginning at 20:55 in the file we talk about the Tumblr purge which goes into effect today. Special guest Dr. Kit Stubbs, educator and hacker, joins the panel (this week consisting of XioNYC, myself, and Gila) to discuss the cultural shift, not just on Tumblr but elsewhere, and its effect on the LGBTQIA+ communities as well as people in all lines of work and of life.
This is the final thing I’ll be posting to Tumblr, as I’m leaving this site in protest of the change. This has been a fun place to doodle and keep up with cool folks and their work, but I don’t feel right sticking around anymore given Tumblr’s part in making things worse for everyone.
You can find me elsewhere on Twitter, Mastodon, Reddit, and all sorts of other places and email me here. You can keep up with my artwork and projects via my website and my blog, which I’ll have to begin using regularly again.
Best wishes!
I stayed up late last night painting this portrait of my Midwestern hacker/artist pal Sigflup Synasloble.
While this started as a simple doodle, I kept wanting to do more with ink and paint effects. I'm really happy with how it all came together in the end.
Five-minute doodle of Woodstock, from Charles Schulz’s Peanuts.
I always loved that comic as a kid, I used to trace it out of the newspaper, and Woodstock was my favorite.
Hello there. I'm Rob. This used to be my art blog until I left Tumblr; here's why you won't see me around here anymore. This is my website, you can find the rest of what I do from there. Here's a bunch of social media I do still use. Here's how to contact me directly if you wish, please feel free.
