Curate, connect, and discover
Another rant.
In a sense I do believe that Snow did love Lucy Gray, but I saw this tiktok talk about how it isn't a love story, it's a tragedy. I have to agree, because Snow was given so many chances to choose the good path, he had people that genuinely believe in him. Tigris, Lucy Gray and Sejanus but Snow is so emotionally stunted and not willing to progress. (At least from my view that's what I concluded)
So many times throughout the book I caught myself smiling or laughing at something he said. And I literally would be like "wtf" but Suzanne Collins is such a genius writer like that, and like a broken clock I'll repeat, she wrote this book so well that, I was genuinely forgetting that this young man will become a man I will hate and wish death upon.
Reading the original trilogy as a pre-teen I never truly understood the gravity of Snow's evil and watching the movies again recently with context from the book, made so many little actions and lines hold more weight.
I hate over-analysing books because of English in school, but books like this remind me why I love to read and get lost in worlds that are are different but the same.
I'm rambling but this book and this whole franchise has been on my mind for a while and I need a creative outlet.
OK I'm half way through TBOSAS and since I knew about the the basic plot points beforehand. I can't stop thinking, do you think current or even middle-aged Snow ever thinks about Lucy? Or Sejanus? The first people he truly committed evil deeds too? I'm not even suggesting in a fond way and not through even Katniss and Peeta mirroring Lucy and Sejanus. Like in his lifetime, I've been dwelling on this for too long.
Kenneth Branagh has the opportunity to do the funniest thing possible
Thinking about the lyrics from ballad of Lucy Gray but applied to Haymitch and Maysilee Donner, and his girlfriend, and his family, and literally all the people haunting him while he slowly drinks himself to death after winning the games
yes, yes, we all know that when snow saw katniss he thought of lucy gray, but what about when they spoke? what if he saw sejanus then, not lucy gray? what if, he saw the ghost of not just his ex, but also his best friend, in katniss?
katniss describes people as if she was asked by police to describe the person she saw
haymitch describes them as if he has a language speaking exam and he really wants you to know he's good at another language
why does no one talk about katniss making johanna a bundle of pine to help ground her and remind her of home?? that is the sweetest thing ever omfg
"I begin to resent johanna for dipping into my morphling supply, but I still let her take whatever she likes."
your honour this is the real sister relationship in the hunger games
reading that katniss' spleen ruptured and being violently taken back to when I was 12ish and first read mockingjay and freaked out wondering what the fuck was a spleen and do I even have one?
the way that katniss only remembers peeta telling her always after hurting her heel in catching fire after getting shot in mockingjay and peeta being hijacked is foul
Suzanne I am in your walls
Something I noted in my reread of mockingjay is the reference katniss makes to hiding away and watching a spider spin its web instead of doing the practice drill for bombardment like the rest of 13.
This may be me overthinking it to hell and beyond but, Robert the Bruce - a Scottish king who killed in a church and had his wife and sister stolen from him with brothers murdered- fled to the Scottish islands because he didn't know how to continue the fight for freedom he was given. He didn't start it, he almost inherited it (technical details not withstanding). It is said when he was hiding in a cave, he saw a spider spin its web again and again after it was destroyed. This encouraged him to return to the fight before thought hopeless and gain a victory that overcame a borderline dictorship(squint a little because kings always kinda feel dictor like but works for the analogy).
Katniss is in an impossible situation. She had to persevere an impossible situation that has played out before and been crushed (Wallace rebellion = dark days) and now has to be the figurehead to do it again. It is after this point in the book that katniss fully commits to being the mockingjay and playing the part.
Felt neat
thinking about how some things remained in panem and some didn't.
They burned books in the dark days to stay warm. How much knowledge is lost? Do they know the sun is a star?? Do they know about quarks? do they know about dinosaurs???? did they rediscover all of this???
GODDAMN IT SUZANNE I NEED TO KNOW
rereading the hungry games trilogy again because fuck you they took out most of peetas sass and the fact he's fucking jacked.
I love the sassy curly hair blond baker he defined my type back in 2012 when I first read the book.
haymitch and katniss voting for the games at the end of mockingjay

Lucy Gray Baird
Also known as Songbird
In love with her songs
Sejanus Plinth moodboard
He is the best boy, totally in love with him. I am still crying about his fate, he didn’t deserve that.
Currently I am in process of making few more moodboards dedicated to characters from Ballad of songbirds and snakes, so stay tuned.
Have fun and enjoy( I know it is hard with this character)
katniss everdeen didnt even tell us the names of her own PARENTS. of course she didn't bring up beetee's wife and child, let alone effie's family in the original trilogy. SHE BARELY TOLD US ANYTHING ABOUT PEETA!!! she basically went through life with survival blinders on, give the girl a break😭😭😭
I think the most radical thing the hunger games does is tell young people that the most revolutionary thing you can do is have unconditional love for humanity. Katniss throughout the entire series is guided by a deep sense of compassion for the people around her. It is what causes her to volunteer, to bury rue, to mercy kill cato, its why she tries to save peeta, why finnick telling her to remember who the real enemy is works, and even though her compassion for the larger world falters when peeta is kidnapped, it comes back when she visits hospitals and asks for mercy for other victors and ultimately, it is love and belief in a better humanity that makes her kill coin. Through it all, she maintains an unfaltering belief in the fundemental goodness of humanity, which is diametrically opposed to dr gaul's and snow's worldview. Peeta is even more unwaveringly compassionate
So the series tells young people that the most revolutionary thing you can be is compassionate. Let compassion drive your politics. Let yourself believe in the fundemental goodness of people. And i think that's deeply important in a world that touts the superiority of pure reason or logic, to allow yourself to be guided by something as emotional as compassion. Katniss everdeen tells us that your politics should be rooted in compassion in a world that thinks detatchment or cynicism is intelligence and i think thats v cool
it is really not a good idea to read the hunger games during school. I did it anyway. and I cried. again. but I'm gonna keep doing it anyway
Happy pride month!!!
