We talk so much about why finnick, Johanna, Katniss, mags, beete , wiress, were in the 75th arena, but cashmere and gloss were there for punishment too. I mean it's never stated that they volunteered and they even make statements about their discontent of being there, therefore I do not think neither of them volunteered. I think gloss is there to punish cashmere, a last goodbye from snow to her. Cashmere and gloss come from a career District, so the pool of victors was probably not small, so it would be a very insane coincidence that both siblings were ripped. And if we think about it in every possible scenario one of them would have to see the other die or at least know about the other's death and grieve it (this is if they didn't need to kill each other). And to me this was a punishment from snow, because either she knew to much and had to be dealt with or she refused snow of something and as punishment he sent her and her brother there to hunt her with the fact that would of them would have to die in other for the other to survive, and it wasn't even guaranteed that the surviving sibling being her or gloss would win because of the other tributes.
There is a possibility that Annie volunteered for her games. I saw someone talk about this on tik tok and I thought it was interesting. Annie is from 4, a career District, so there is the possibility of her training her entire life, her volunteering, her going into the games, and her idea of glory quickly shattering once she saw her district colleague be horribly death. she went mad because that's a very traumatic thing to witness, but one thing that might have played into her madness was having this idea of glory being stripped away revealing the reality of the games. After seeing the games in such a romanticised way her entire life, just to realise how ruthless they actually are, destroying her perception of reality. (Since she would have trained her entire life for the games)
Finnick s character is so sad, I saw someone talking about and they where so right, because finnick won his games by having lots and lots of sponsorships right? But sponsors know what happen to tributes after the games, so finnick only won his games because enough people wanted to prostitute him at 14. And now I add this, sponsors where very difficult to come that year for other tributes, so we can either assume that no one was sponsoring other tributes or that sponsorships where very expensive that year, if it was the latest, sponsors wanted to prostitute finnick so bad at the age of 14 they gave him one of the most if not the most expensive "gift" in hunger games history (plus plenty of other things) in a year that the price of sponsorships was all time high. The amount of money and desperation this people where putting on this 14 year old just because in the future they knew what was going to happen to him.
I feel like we are losing the plot to katniss everdeen, I understand the state the word is in right now and that the people want someone to look up to, and katniss everdeen is a good character for that. But we can't forget that katniss everdeen never wanted to fight she wanted to survive and make sure the people that she loved survived with her. That's why she volunteered for prim, that's why she became the mockingjay, to make sure that peeta was safe in case the rebels found him, that they wouldn't kill him, that's why she did what she did with the nigthlock, not because she wanted to defy the capitol, but because she wanted to survive, and to make sure peeta survived with her. There is even a point in mocking jay where people are discussing what actions katniss made that touched them and made them like her. And none of those actions where made with the principle of defying the capitol or make people see her as a martyr of revolution, it was just katniss being herself and caring for others, it was just katniss showing raw emotions, like when she covered rue with flowers, she did that of course to show that rue wasn't just an other tribute she was a person that was cared for, loved, that didn't deserve the fate she got, to show that rue wasn't just an ally that she would quickly move on from, but a person she would truly remember forever, that rue wasn't just a tribute for the entertainment of the capitol but a real person. Yes in that case she did defy the capitol but not because she wanted to be a revolutionary but because she wanted to pay tribute to someone she cared for. When she drugged peeta to try and save him knowing fully well she might not come back, but that the wish of him surviving was big enough for her to do it. Katniss everdeen never wanted to be the simbol of revolution, she wanted to survive and to make sure the people she loved survived with her, and we know this for the very first page when she tried to drown buttercup, only stopping because of Prim, Katniss wants to survive, and she doesn't want her loved ones to suffer. Of course she is more layered then this but I think people keep forgetting this aspect of her pretty often.
Spoilers ahead!
Okay I finally got to watch the movie on Saturday and I've had time to process.
The brutality of the deaths really showed how horrific it was for both the Capitol and the Districts at the time. And slowly sensationalizing the games was portrayed really well. Lucky Flickerman was the forefront of the desensitization within the Capitol.
Hunter Schafer was amazing as Tigress, she was truly eye-catching and her last line in the move was...rough to say the least. I was genuinely heartbroken for her, after all her efforts to make sure Coriolanus didn't go down the dark path, it's the utter defeat when she said the line.
Rachel and Tom have amazing chemistry, just like the books, I was rooting for them until the second portion of the 3rd act. Would definitely petition for them to star in a RomCom or something just happier.
Josh gave the most wonderfully heart-breaking performance as Sejanus, I have no notes.
The songs are a bop, and next time I read the book again, 100% reading it with them in mind.
The foreshadowing of Katniss throughout the movie was awesome to see. Also Snow being left with his thoughts for two seconds and having a complete meltdown is so on brand.
The fashion of the Capitol was so wild to see, as they were dressed so "normal" like you would instantly be like "I would wear that," in contrast to the original trilogy shows how vapid and vile the Capitol became x2. Cause the classism and elitist mentality is already there.
Things I wish were added:
The first kiss the night before the games, I think for me it was both a emotional point, as these two have been bonding and falling for each other slowly, they might never see each other and I feel like it should've stayed.
Just more Clemmie in general.
I don't know why I jus really would've like to see Snow and the Covey interacting. Especially him and Maude Ivory more.
But overall this movie was amazing, and I felt a wave of nostalgia hit when I was watching it. Being immersed back into this world, and its complexities. And today my sister and I watched the first hunger games movies again, and I was just thinking about all the parallels, genuinely so cool and well done.
😭😭😭
One thing about Coryo is the fact that he never stopped losing the IDGAF war, like even 64 years after the ballad that man is essentially on his death bed and instead of getting himself treatment he decides that beefing with a teenager is more important
PEETA MY POOKIE-WOOKIE
ma shaylas
Madge: *thinking about the Mockingjay pin* I'm gonna give this to a girl, then MAYBE she'll like me and realize how fucking gay I am for her. also haha screw you Gale she didn't wear anything you gave her
Katniss *thinking about the Mockingjay pin*: Wow this was Madge’s aunt’s, what a precious and valuable family heirloom, it must have been special to her, I’ll treasure it forever.
Maysilee *thinking about the Mockingjay pin*: this bird is ugly and stupid I’m literally never going to wear this.
so i was online and saw some insatiable freaks (jk love you guys) thinking about the next hunger games book ALREADY. Because, it's clear to us now that it's not just one main serie or one main series and an antagonistic prequel. no. suzanne is diving in depth to various aspects of dictatorship and dystopia, all centered around this world in Panem
it'll be a few years before she even thinks of releasing another hunger games book but i think something like a plutarch one makes the most sense, or something exploring what's outside the districts in some way. I honestly thought on some level THAT was going to be what sunrise on the reaping was about, how the capitol utilized propaganda to hide the rest of the outside world because we were hinted at that in thg and tbosas. I would absolutely love one switching perspectives (which we've never seen!) between 1st and 3rd, and between plutarch and some like long lost rebel from before the dark days (if only).
Because it's really, really obvious that there was/is some level of contact with an outside world even after the collapse of civilization that apparently only left Panem intact. I'll reblog later with my full theory and all of my evidence because i have quite a lot of evidence and a pretty strong theory if i do say so myself
i hate you. just so you know that
“Can you imagine [the sun] rising on a world without the reaping?”
it will not save you it will murder you, blitz you up into hundreds of thousands of tiny pieces, pick out your heart and then throw it in a high speed vacuum cleaner while it taunts you
sunrise on the reaping save me
well hardy har de har you're getting a fucking glimpse of mr. burdock everdeen (and they're friends! what the fuck)
and asterid everdeen-neé march
“My father. He seems to be everywhere today. Dying in the mine. Singing hi way into Peeta’s muddled consciousness. Flickering in the look Boggs gives me as he protectively wraps the blanket around my shoulders. I miss him so badly it hurts.” (mj 246)
I do badly want to see Mr Everdeen in SOTR, I’ll take a GLIMPSE. I’ll take anything. Please.
so... i started working on my series of drabbles i wanted to write for SOTR!! (so excited for it btw)
I wanted to write at least a few teensy little drabbles about the 50th hunger games, yk?
This one is about Mr. and Mrs. Everdeen and was finished in approximately 30 minutes, but I'm pretty proud of it, especially the later scenes.
If you're interested, here's the link below :) thank you so much

“Sing to me.”
“What?” Jack stirs. Will’s smile is teasing, lilting almost as she looks up at him from his lap, her eyes half closed. It’s a special peace she gives him, where he feels like nothing could ruin these moments. He’s never really felt that way with anyone else.
“Sing to me, Jackie.”
OR: A collection of scenes, scattered throughout Mr. and Mrs. Everdeen's life.

Kenneth Branagh has the opportunity to do the funniest thing possible
Suzanne is not fucking around anymore. This book is about so many things but the thing that stuck out most to me was the rage I think dominates this prequel more than any other book in the series.
When the news came out a book about Haymitch was coming after years of fan requests (and a film to be developed in tandem) I’ll admit, I had my doubts.
But what Collins delivers is more brutal a gut punch than I think even the most hard core fans of this series were anticipating. In the wake of political unrest across the US and world wide, in an era of disinformation, she tells the reader clearly to look and think for themselves, and shows the atrocities that can come when we do not.
This book is about anger and injustice and it does not try to convince its reader otherwise. At times you can feel Collins shaking the reader by the shoulders: ‘See?! See what happens when you blindly accept what they tell you? See what you let them take?’.
Fans familiar with Haymitch will not be surprised by a lot of the major beats of this story but the focus on propaganda still leads to some interesting reveals. This is the goriest of Collins series and in many ways I think will be the hardest to adapt, perhaps her own rebellion against the industry that continues to profit off her work and contort her message
Thinking about the lyrics from ballad of Lucy Gray but applied to Haymitch and Maysilee Donner, and his girlfriend, and his family, and literally all the people haunting him while he slowly drinks himself to death after winning the games
Ship dynamic: She's everything, and he's just Ken/Worships the ground she walks on gotta be one of my favorites honestly
Katniss's Narration vs Haymitch's Narration
The Reluctant Victor, inspired by The Reluctant Bride by Auguste Toulmouche - I just thought that this painting was SO perfect for Katniss and I had to draw it!
yes, yes, we all know that when snow saw katniss he thought of lucy gray, but what about when they spoke? what if he saw sejanus then, not lucy gray? what if, he saw the ghost of not just his ex, but also his best friend, in katniss?
my kitchen pipes are fucked and so I have to clean all my dishes and clothes in the bathtub and I honestly feel like either a miner's widow in D12 tryna earn some income or a very poor sentient who's in the rebellion and showing everyone how to make do without electricity
katniss describes people as if she was asked by police to describe the person she saw
haymitch describes them as if he has a language speaking exam and he really wants you to know he's good at another language
why does no one talk about katniss making johanna a bundle of pine to help ground her and remind her of home?? that is the sweetest thing ever omfg
"I begin to resent johanna for dipping into my morphling supply, but I still let her take whatever she likes."
your honour this is the real sister relationship in the hunger games
reading that katniss' spleen ruptured and being violently taken back to when I was 12ish and first read mockingjay and freaked out wondering what the fuck was a spleen and do I even have one?
the way that katniss only remembers peeta telling her always after hurting her heel in catching fire after getting shot in mockingjay and peeta being hijacked is foul
Suzanne I am in your walls
Something I noted in my reread of mockingjay is the reference katniss makes to hiding away and watching a spider spin its web instead of doing the practice drill for bombardment like the rest of 13.
This may be me overthinking it to hell and beyond but, Robert the Bruce - a Scottish king who killed in a church and had his wife and sister stolen from him with brothers murdered- fled to the Scottish islands because he didn't know how to continue the fight for freedom he was given. He didn't start it, he almost inherited it (technical details not withstanding). It is said when he was hiding in a cave, he saw a spider spin its web again and again after it was destroyed. This encouraged him to return to the fight before thought hopeless and gain a victory that overcame a borderline dictorship(squint a little because kings always kinda feel dictor like but works for the analogy).
Katniss is in an impossible situation. She had to persevere an impossible situation that has played out before and been crushed (Wallace rebellion = dark days) and now has to be the figurehead to do it again. It is after this point in the book that katniss fully commits to being the mockingjay and playing the part.
Felt neat
i say we just call them geese
thinking about how some things remained in panem and some didn't.
They burned books in the dark days to stay warm. How much knowledge is lost? Do they know the sun is a star?? Do they know about quarks? do they know about dinosaurs???? did they rediscover all of this???
GODDAMN IT SUZANNE I NEED TO KNOW
We need more representation of brooding women. Why are only men allowed to be a haunted stoic type? Let more women be moody violent bad asses.
