My first time running across a totcf post, and holy heck, is this one such a doozy. I love it, the angst the drama, the fact that even when he does tell people the truth, it’s too late to undo his newly acquired sainthood- just, chef’s kiss.
Instead of being able to, very briefly and painfully, fuck with time; he got an ability based on all the absolute bullshit that's happened to him.
From the childhood, to his friends dying in front of him. All the shitty rumors that sprouted up, all the shit luck, all of it. Just, all of it.
So instead of Instant, he got Lament.
Lament is a scream capable of leveling buildings, at the cost of absolutely shredding Rok Soo's throat.
As a result of that power, Rok Soo doesn't talk often, and when he does his voice is hoarse and pained. He also refuses to speak at full volume, because while he's got a handle on his power, he's paranoid that he'll slip up.
So when he transfers over to the body of Cale, people notice.
The Young Master went to bed his usual talkative self, but when he woke up?
Barely a word, and when he did speak, a whisper.
Cale barely speaks a word to Ron beyond the single syllable required. Barely bothers to acknowledge Deruth. Relies on hand-speak and notes to talk to merchants.
Deruth is going crazy trying to figure out what the hell happened to his son, Ron is very close behind him because what the hell got past him? He's Ron Fucking Molan.
Then Cale comes home with a bedraggled punk that smells like the trash the killed Ron's family, and Ron has to listen in astonishment as he says more to this jackass than he's said to Ron in a week.
Basically; Cale's power of Lament is so strong and painful that everything Cale is paranoid of letting it slip, that he's selectively mute. This causes many misunderstandings, in true Cale fashion.
Danny doesn't have the best spatial awareness, you'd think he would given his bout as a vigilante, but his rogues all had the convenient ability of setting off his ghost sense and letting him know when to turn on his awareness.
So when he was taken in by Bruce Wayne in Gotham, far away from any ghosts or portals, he just didn't have any reason to be on guard. It worked well for him since his vigilante days were over and he could put all his focus on school again.
But you see, when he was first taken in, it was just him and his foster brother Tim staying at the manor.
Fast forward to now, Danny gets home from school to find not only Bruce waiting at the table for dinner, but a kid who looks surprisingly like Bruce??? The kid is small, rude and trying to be threatening in a way Danny doesn't really see as such, like the kid is like 8 how much could they really do???
Turns out a lot.
After Danny and Tim sat down and the introductions were made, Bruce filled them in on the situation that was Damian. Tim seemed to take it as a new puzzle, looking to Damian and Bruce periodically as if he could get answers simply by staring. Danny took it in stride, it isn't that unusually for a rich guy to have secret flings that result in children down the line.
Dinner was in full swing when it happened, there had been some bantering the entire time and many threats of bodily harm coming from Damian which weren't met with as many reprimands as Danny assumed it should. A distinct thunk sound was heard after a particularly harsh threat and Danny looked over to see a knife now embedded in Tim's chair where his head once was.
Before he could react, Bruce was standing with a sharp reprimand and Danny collided harshly with his chair as a new knife embedded itself in his shoulder. He cried out in shock, it has been over a year since his last ghost fight and honestly he forgot how much that hurts!
Aka, Bruce and Dick are forced to take Damian's threats more seriously when the civilian Danny is in the crossfire instead of just the trained vigilante Tim.
i desperately need this now-
Somebody has probably thought of this already, but dpxgf crossover where the casper high kids go to gravity falls for a field trip, and as soon as they get there they're setting off ford and dippers "That's not human" senses, but neither can figure out what's wrong with these kids until the class tries to leave and none of them can because of weirdness barrier- so now the entire class of liminals (+danny as a halfa) are freaking out, because they were only meant to be away for like a week and after the giw their parents will freak out if the class doesn't get home soon, shenanigans ensue with the amity parkers, but the pines family can not figure out what's wrong with these kids to save their life, because ghosts have just never appeared in gravity falls before, and it's driving dipper and ford mad trying to figure everything out while the amity parkers are actively messing with them because if their stranded here, might as well have fun, right?
Y’all cannot just leave these gems in the comments and mosey on your way. These must be shared!
Also, I absolutely imagine Damian’s absolute smugness upon being able to prove to his family that: see! I wasn’t making it up, and Beast Boy wasn’t pranking me. There really is a green dog.
Alfred sprits the windows with cleaning solution as he pretended not to notice the boy sneaking around the manor grounds.
The boy had black hair and blue eyes, characteristics of what the young masters would call, "adoption bait." The boy bent down near a rustling bush and whispered just loud enough for Alfred to overhear, "Cujo! You can't keep sneaking in here. You're going to get caught." The boy then pulled an excited glowing green puppy from the bush. Ah. So that must be the creature Master Damian had been attempting to capture for the past few weeks. The poor boy had been near obsessed with proving the beasts existence to his brothers.
Regardless, he should probably have a word with the young man. "May I inquire the reason for your visit?"
The boy jumped and spun around, the puppy half held, half dangling from his armed perked up in alert, as if sensing Alfred as a threat. It might have been alarming if the puppy wasn't so small and cute.
"Uh, just dropping by?" He said, the words coming out as a question. To this, Alfred raised an eyebrow.
The young man's shoulders sagged, as if accepting whatever fate would inevitably come, "How much trouble am I in?"
I need this fanfic in my life-
Deaged Danny Phantom accidentally on purpose gains older siblings. Like imagine the ultimate crossover is just baby Danny going through the dimensions and collecting siblings.
Danny: Mine.
Percy Jackson: Well um this is a new form of kidnapping, sure kid but im getting you back to camp after this.
_
Danny: Mine!
Marinette: What? American baby, I should find your parent-
*Danny dragged her into the portal*
_
Danny: Mine?
Damian: I am not your's child. However we should find your parents before my father decides to adopt you as well.
Danny: Mine.
Damian: I am not.
Danny: 🙂
*drags him into his portal*
_
Danny: Mine!
Peter: Hahahaha, yours kid. I'm guessing, just a guess, are you some kind of baby god or something. The portal you fell out of and my spidey senses kinda just goes off with you.
Danny: *giggles and brings peter with him*
_
Percy: So I'm guessing you got kidnapped too *making blue food in the kitchen of danny lair*
Peter: Ehe, yeah um is this common? You seem too relaxed for this.
Percy: Honestly, this is a vacation for me, on top of being able to visit my girlfriend from time without either of us worrying about time overlaps and monster attacks. I'm honest vibing, not sure about the bird tho.
Peter: There's a bird?! Like a whole bird or like a monster size bird????
Percy: ..... Ok I'm going to need to make orientation slides.
I mean, it’s not entirely wrong though? Since Clark is the one who actually has that weakness and Danny only played Superman while he was gone. 😂
Danny is in metropolis for school and Superman is off planet or in another dimension with the justice league
Danny is sleep deprived and studying for exams so when some super villain asshole interrupts his daily routine he puts them down swiftly only to flee the scene thinking he’ll be found out.
Instead, as he gets to his dorm ready to flee the city one of his dorm mates stops him to show him a funny post about superman stopping a giant robot on laundry day.
What he sees is a blurry, indistinct photo of him destroying the robot.
Danny decided he can work with this.
He was tired of villains fucking around with his day just because superman was out of town for a bit and gets one of the ghosts to help him make a perfect replica of the suit.
He’s bulked up over the years and learned to control his transformation so now all he has to do is transform everything but his hair and eyes and just refuse interviews for a bit
Easy peasy!….until he meets his, we’ll Superman’s, clone.
Superboy confronts the counterfeit kryptonian about him slacking on his duties only to immediately realize this isn’t Superman.
This dudes chill though so Conner decides to just go with it
He doesn’t mind being Danny’s second clone
Lex is confounded by Superman’s sudden immunity to kryptonite
When Superman gets back no one says shit. Why would they? It’s been a completely normal month in metropolis. Though with less property damage.
Conner already explained things to Lois so she doesn’t say anything. She wants to see how long they can keep it up.
2 years pass before clark finds out.
The rest of the league figured it out at various points during the first year
Clark will never live this down
They all stare in shock at the clearly non-human sidekick that Green Arrow now has, but both of them claim he’s human. Wonder Woman swears the kid has a godly aura, Superman is concerned by the kids heart rate, and Green Lantern isn’t positive, but he keeps getting flashes of what looks like a translucent ring of rage on the kids finger?
Green Arrow isn't sure what that means, or who the white haired meta teenager barreling towards him is, but because of that desperate plea he knows not to shoot.
Then the teenager goes through him, and stops directly behind him, using him as a shield as another meta, this one dressed like a vampire or something stops in front of Green Arrow.
"Daniel, enough. I am willing to take the task of educating-"
"Dibs."
Green Arrow blinks.
The vampire blinks.
"Beg pardon?" The vampire asks.
"Dibs. I call dibs." Green Arrow repeats.
He has...a vague idea that he's probably calling dibs on the kid behind him, for hero training purposes if the jumpsuit is anything to go by. Honestly, he hadn't even meant to say dibs, he'd just heard the vampire guys voice and hated it so much he called it.
"You have no idea what you're-"
"Sidekick. This is my sidekick now. I called dibs, you didn't." Green Arrow shrugs in a 'what can you do' motion, quietly grabbing one of his arrows specially made for supernatural entities.
He got it from a business called 'Fentonworks', and he hopes it'll actually do what it's namesake says, and work.
"I am working in his best interest!"
"And I called dibs."
"He doesn't even use arrows!"
"I've just decided I wanna learn how to use arrows," the kid breaks in, winded.
Green Arrow nods sagely.
"See? He's just decided he wants to learn."
The situation devolves from there and Green Arrow ends up shooting the vampire in the ass with one of those Fentonworks arrows, finding out that yes, they do work as intended.
Afterwards, he's left with an exhausted meta teen, who didn't use that fight as a chance to run away, like what would have been the smart thing to do.
"Sorry, I also need you to get these off of me," the teen says, holding out his arms and revealing a pair of metal cuffs.
...
Green Arrow shouldn't have aimed for that guys ass.
He should have aimed for his dick.
Danny gives Tim the most deadpan of looks and points at himself. “I’m dead. How exactly am I supposed to pay rent?” Tim crosses his arms, and the two of them have a stare down.
“*sigh* Listen, I can take care of the apartment for you, does that work?”
Tim now has his own personal Coffee maker (Danny) because Danny decided he wanted to use ghost status to get a free apartment.
Tim moves to an new apartment. When he wakes up the next morning and wants to makes himself Espresso.
In his kitchen sits a teen who tells him:"this apartment is haunted."
Its way to early for this. But he looks at the teen:" how did you get in here?"
"By me. I'm hauting your apartment."
Tim standing by the coffee machine slowly waking up, looking at Danny who is slightly floating. "I've your here you have to pay rent."
The way I cackled 🤣
Can I talk about Danny Fenton Kills the Joker ? I hope you said yes bc I'm going to.
Now, I like it for the bit. Anyone killing Joker for the bit is hilarious.
But for the serious ? Ouhgggg I love it.
Danny is surrounded by death, he IS dead. He's seen his family die ! He fights ghosts for a living(and a deading too) ! In some fics he's the KING of the dead !
Death is so normal to him, he forgets that most people see dying as the end all be all, the little thing that is total obliteration. To him, people die and then fall under his jurisdiction, or they reincarnate somewhere.
So when he kills this guy who is causing the living a whole lot of strife he thinks "cool. I'll just take him off your hands. You can have visitation rights once you come here too. Bye."
Meanwhile Batman has such conviction about sentencing anyone to the nothingness that death is supposed to be is like "what could this child have grown up around.... To take a life so easily... Was he raised like Damian... ? Oh no..."
the third F stands for Fenton-
The Infinite Realms is a very little understood place by magic users.
It is the medium through which travel to and from the World of the Dead to the World of the Living must go; they cannot just teleport from one to the other.
But those who are not denizens of it cannot perceive it.
As far as any magic user is concerned, the Space Between Spaces is just a black, empty void, and the only way to cross through it is to make a Bridge.
On that bridge they will face Shades of their loves ones trying to drag them off of it.
The construction of the Bridge is no matter, as it's made of magic anyways, but the existence of that Bridge is beyond important; if the magic user loses sight of the bridge, or if a spirit trying to get to the World of the Dead loses sight of their way, then both can fall into the abyss and be forever lost.
Danny, having heard this story multiple times from ghosts with only the barest memories of who they'd been or how they got to the Infinite Realms, decides to build permanent, visible way stations for travelers.
It can't be made out of Realms material, or the travelers won't see it.
It can't be purely made out of normal construction either, or the Spirits won't be able to touch it.
He asks around, finds out where most of the bridges get made, and brainstorms with his parents.
Naturally, once Jack and Maddie Fenton are brought in on it, they go a bit overboard.
In the end, the situation evolves like this;
There are now waystations that look like incredibly creepy restaurants from a certain chain floating in the middle of nowhere to travelers, complete with desolate and empty parking lots. Those waystations are manned by Liminal People from Amity Park, who are paid by the hour. The Observants now both hate and fear Danny's parents in equal measure, and will not interfere with this. All of those waystations are owned by Waffle House, and all of them have fully operational menus for both the living and the dead. Danny's family now has a part of Waffle House's stocks, and his parents are now also trying to make terrifying kitchen implements for their new business buddies. The Waffle House Index for these stores has been altered from Weather to Ghost Attacks and/or attempted mass summonings for world domination. There are now random doors in Amity that have been rigged to open straight to those restaurants. The Infinite Realms Waffle Houses are a popular spot for Amity Park Liminal teens to get jobs and meet up.
So when Constantine loses sight of his Bridge as he's trying to get from the World of the Living to the World of the Dead, he's a little surprised to land in the parking lot of the notorious Waffle House.
And.
Well.
He is rather hungry, and the read he gets from this place is that it's not a trick.
He goes inside.
It's empty, but it doesn't feel like it is. The luminescent lights are a more faded green than yellow, humming ominously overhead. While the Medium is a black abyss full of nothing, once he's inside the restaurant, through the windows it's a swirling mass of greens and purples, full of doors and stairs that both appear from nowhere and go to nowhere.
There's an incredibly cursed teenager at the grill.
"Thank you for choosing Waffle House, my name is Wes; please have a seat and I'll be with you in a moment."
