Honestly I’m surprised by the amount of people who think Mohg’s character was at all reduced by the DLC— if anything, the introduction of a character like Ansbach and the reveal that he was bewitched adds a lot to his story.
I wonder if there’s any correlation between those who believe his character was taken away from and those who very staunchly believed that he kidnapped Miquella all on his own? Because in my personal experience, I’m someone who always thought it was more likely that it was either a mutual agreement or manipulation + bewitchment on Miquella’s end rather than kidnapping— otherwise, there’s a lot going on in terms of the environment and story details that just don’t make sense (IE; why is nobody at the Haligtree concerned about there being a kidnapping, and are simply waiting for Miquella to come back)! And also, since GRRM has a quote discussing how he’s not fond of the “here’s the good guys, they dress in white and look pretty while the bad guys dress in black and are ugly” trope, I would’ve been more shocked if that was played straight and it WAS a kidnapping.
Another thing, I fell in love with his character before I knew anything about his involvement with Miquella. Varré’s quest, the subtle buildup of his presence you see throughout the world of the game and the characterization it provides! As soon as I saw the Bloodroses for the first time, I knew he was going to be a favorite of mine. They alone clue us in on so much about him as a character, painting this mysterious Lord of Blood as a romantic, but morbid figure.
He has so much character without Miquella, he has a fully fleshed out backstory that I can’t help but to adore. Then, the DLC comes in and makes you confront any pre-conceived notions of what Mohgwyn was like prior to Miquella, it makes you ask what this blood cult was like before it got extra bloody, it makes you ask where this love for Miquella came from, and so on. I personally subscribe to “it was a combination of genuine manipulation from Miq’s end along with bewitchment— which played horribly well with Mohg’s idea of and need for love”, but there’s so many ways you can go about it! So many fun possibilities to explore that add further depth to these characters and their relationship!
So I find it surprising as hell that people would think the DLC took anything away from his character, when it really just fleshed him out further.
Nightreign looks really cool but I’m definitely not looking forward to people using it in lore discussion for the next year, because as far as I can tell, it’s just a spinoff with very little to no actual relevance to the world and story of Elden Ring or Dark Souls, but everyone seems insistent in treating it like a full on sequel.
I could totally be wrong about this, but until we get more information on the game, I’m probably just going to treat it as a fun spin off/elseworld game and nothing more. And that's not a bad thing. I'd much prefer a crossover of these games to be its own thing instead of an actual "canon" story to both worlds.
How are you really going to be so terrible at your job as supreme god that your vassal successfully planned to overthrow you and betrayed you right under your nose and one of her possible replacements went to some seriously extreme lengths just to get away from you?
Wouldn’t be surprised if the GW abandoned the lands between out of embarrassment tbh. The other outer gods are never going to let it live this down. The formless mother has a very loyal pawn and the rot god has wormed its way back into the system. What does the GW have again? Two problem children that wont listen to it?
Oh what Radagon? Radagon's probably it's self insert it made/possessed to try and looks slightly less pathetic /hj
y'know with all the courage motifs going on in deltarune, seemingly replacing determination for Kris I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that Kris' soul was actually a bravery one before we were super imposed onto them.
I think it'd be a pretty cool twist all things considered. We're so used to playing as a red soul so we don't question it, but in reality we have no idea if that was always Kris' soul. If it turns out that Kris' soul was replaced with ours then I wouldn't be shocked if it's a different type all together.
Miquella the kind when you ask him why there's an Albinauric torture chamber in castle sol.
Thinking about how Farum Azula is about the only place in the lands between a body can be put to rest without it being "returned to the erdtree" via its roots.
Thinking about how the society of Farum Azula seem to hold the dead in incredibly high regards, the entire city being a mass mausoleum in which the dead can be seen weaved into the very foundation.
Thinking about how Dragonlord Placidusax is said to have been elden lord long before the erdtree even existed and that he's waiting for his missing god to return even to this very day.
Thinking about Farum Azula having an ancient, more whole depiction of the elden ring designed into one of its major buildings.
Thinking about how the Godskins have reptilian, almost dragon like features and are fought in Farum Azula's prayer room.
Thinking about how the dragons and the golden order warred fairly early on in the Golden order's history, and that unlike many other of its documented conquests, the dragons were the aggressors in the situation, as stated in bolt of Gransax' item description. However what caused the dragons to attack seems to be conveniently forgotten in modern history.
Thinking about the sheer magnitude of history that's seemingly been buried from before the golden order, including an entire age that existed before it that had its own elden lord and god.
Thinking about how Marika had to defeat the gloam eyed queen before she was able to alter the elden ring and remove the rune of death to begin her own order.
Thinking about how the GEQ was an empyrean queen who had ties to death.
Thinking about how Placidusax has a missing god who used to host the elden ring before the age of the erdtree and ruled from within a mausoleum city that worships and honours the dead.
Ingo and Akari spinoff series of the two travelling through space and time trying to get back to their present day
call it "conductor who"
I find it utterly baffling that people can look at modern pokemon games and go "oh the graphical flaws are just a limitation of the switch" because like... what?! what the fuck are you talking about?!
The switch might not be the most powerful modern console but it's by no means weak.
This system can run games that look like this!
And this!
And this!
And this!
And this!
And this!
And this!
And this!
Oh yeah, and this.

This is not a result of hardware limitations. This is the result of time constraints and unbelievable amounts of crunch. The scope of these games are getting higher and higher each year but the time they're allocated to finish them hasn't changed at all. In fact I'm pretty sure development times have gotten shorter. It's just not sustainable, which I think is something they've realised semi-recently.
oh this dlc is gonna be so fucking good, prepare for me to be very normal about this for the following weeks
I can't stop thinking about St. Trina in the fissure.
How Miquella likely threw her in from the top. How he sealed her behind a magic gate so nobody could ever find her. How he bewitched and clouded the memories of someone who was a devout follower of her. How the purple liquid seeping from her face almost looks like blood leaking from a wound, possibly the one she obtained from the fall. How she embodies Miquella's love. How she'll likely never get to be with the people she loves ever again.
How even after all of that, after being abandoned and left to rot in the deepest possible pit she could be thrown into, after being completely and utterly betrayed by her other half, her one and only concern is for Miquella's safety and happiness. For him to be freed from the gilded cage of godhood.
also ummm.... Maybe St. Trina? The area has the general color scheme of the sleep effect in Elden Ring, they're surrounded by Trina's Lilly's and the character in shot seems like they could be sleeping. They're also about the right size to be an alter ego of Miquella with the right hair along side it.
