Do you know how many witches the Inquisition burned?
None of them.
witches don't exist
It wasn't witches who burned, it was women.
Beautiful, cultured and intelligent women. Women accused of having water in the well or for cultivating and caring for their beautiful plantation. They were convicted of having a birthmark, for being skillful with herbal medicine, for being tall, black or red-haired.
They condemned those who showed a strong connection to nature, those who danced or sang. The ones who looked happy. To those who looked independent and powerful.
For the Holy Inquisition and many other groups throughout history, any free-spirited woman should have been burned or thrown into the water. If it floated it was guilty and executed. If she was sinking and drowning she was declared innocent and then her soul would go to heaven.
Many, thousands of them were thrown off cliffs or placed in deep holes in the ground by beings who felt superior to them, almost gods.
Why am I even writing this?
Because knowing history is important when it comes to building a new society and a new world. It is urgent to give voice to all women in honor of those who were humiliated, beaten, tortured and massacred. Long live to independent, strong and powerful women.
It wasn't witches who burned, it was... women.
Your concierge-god is too busy getting Maureen from Butkrak, Missouri a parking space, and fixing football games so that Bob from Pharthoal, Louisiana’s team wins.
Actually, ex-Christians have earned the right to make fun of Christianity. It comes free with the religious trauma.

Someone i know even admitted that the only reason he’s a zionist is out of fear of “God’s Wrath”.
Listen, i dont mean to sound like a reddit atheist, but... You ever think about how evangelical Chriatians very literally believe that there will be a genocide in which billions of humans, mostly just innocent everyday people, are condemned to suffer in hell?
And, like, that's the end. That's the finale. Of everything they believe. That's their solution for the world. A final one, if you will.
And they don't rebel. They don't say "hey, wait, that's a bit much" and appeal to their God to maybe reconsider. They don't even seem to really mind.
Instead, they worship. They conjure up an image of a genocidal maniac, and they worship it. The word "praise" is bandied about a lot. Praise. For a leader whose endgoal, very transparently, is genocide.
Suddenly a lot of history makes a little more sense.
most of the time I think my religious trauma doesn't bother me anymore
last year I took a creative writing class
I had my narrator take the lord's name in vain once or twice
(I like to do it, now. now that I can.)
I didn't think altogether too much of it because my story wasn't about god at all
it was just about guilt guilt guilt
but my professor called attention to the way my narrator said god when they were angry
"almost like prayer," he said
almost like prayer.

feeling empowered and actually having power are two very different things. women are usually offered the first one.
Christians hate when a gay man goes “fuck it, I’ll gladly go to Hell if you want me to so bad” because it takes the edge away from their tools of fear. If they can’t scare you with threats of eternal damnation then one of their main weapons is taken away.
