i like drawing her soft, and hc that she is able to grow a bit of chest on her own while taking hormones. @amaianita was telling me that there could be like, a way to petrify herself (like her first death) and sculpt her more to be the body she wants but i love thinking about this

Kabru in the throne room trying to sound proper cuz the elves are visiting: Where in Tarnations is the Female King of Melini and Lady Nakamoto
Laishuro:
(Female King to cement this is in fact Yuri, Laishuro T4T yuri)
Honestly, I thought of what Toshitsugu would say upon learning of Shuro being trans, but honestly from what we know of him Toshiro's Father would probably find the idea of a 'man becoming a woman' more interesting than an Albino Elephant or floating head (Funger Reference)
(Yes It's a Saw Movie Reference, No it's not exactly canonical in the AU. Only like a sliver)
We have heard of Incomprehensible Horrors but honestly, Horrors that are too comprehensible need more love. You can viscerally understand it and you really don't like it
Way-too-comprehensible horrors
Getting super annoyed with the big Pro-Palestine/ Pro-Sudan accounts with massive platforms who are only sharing the oppression and massacres but not the fundraiser campaigns as well

Help Almoghrabi family to evacuate Gaza strip
Even 5$ matters, if we all do our part we will get these people to safety!
I LOVE worldbuilding economics
hi! i was wondering if in dunmeshi, before falin was eaten by the dragon and before present events, laios and his party were earning money for k*lling monsters in the dungeon? i don't understand if someone was paying them, how they were making money and how it worked
I want to write a proper, thorough reply to this with citations to specific references and mentions in the story, but uh, a tree fell on my house so I've been a bit too busy to do that lmao.
BUT, to give an incomplete answer:
Yes, adventurers get paid for work they do inside of the dungeon, or, they just harvest monsters/plants/treasure that they find. The dungeons are a kind of boom town, similar to a gold or silver rush, which means that the entire local economy is based on people trying to extract wealth from the dungeon, since it's dangerous but easy work, anyone can try to do it with very little resources, and the potential for profit is huge.
Someone with almost no money could, potentially, go into the dungeon and walk away with enough money to start a business, or buy a house or a boat. If they don't die. If they're lucky. Desperate people cling to the hope that they will be one of the lucky ones who become insanely wealthy.
Based on things Kui's told us in the manga and the extra materials, we know:
You pay a fee or a toll to be allowed to go into the dungeon. Access is controlled by the local government. Some people avoid this, like Senshi and the orcs since they just live in the dungeon and avoid leaving.
Many people die, give up, or fail to accomplish anything useful in the dungeon. These people probably generate a good, steady income for the island, since they pay fees but don't have to be rewarded. The lure of trying to strike it rich keeps huge hoards of people flowing in steadily. Most money in boom towns is generated by all the people who are trying and failing to get rich buying things from local people (food, supplies, lodging).
When a dungeon first appears, it is full of easy to harvest gold and treasure. "Gold peeling" is how Laios and Falin started out, and it's literally going into the dungeon and peeling gold off of the walls and statues, and taking any easy to transport treasure with you.
Various tasks need to be done in the dungeon to keep it safe, clean and accessible, and all of these result in a person either being paid by the lord of the island, or the person who they have saved. Killing dangerous monsters, finding people who have died and taking their corpses to the resurrection office, reporting changes to the dungeon, discovering new paths, etc.
When gold and treasure that is easy to find starts to run out, people turn primarily to harvesting monsters. They are probably paid a bounty for every monster they can prove they killed (bring back some body part that a monster only has one of, like a tail), and then they can also sell anything else they harvested from the monster in the market (meat, the rest of the hide, horns, teeth, claws.)
You want the dungeon to stay safe with a well-managed monster population to prevent something like Utaya from happening.
But if you kill too many monsters, now that the treasure is gone, there won't be any profit reason for people to go into the dungeon anymore, and your economy will collapse.
So you need to manage the dungeon and keep the monster population high, but not too high. This is what the Shadow Lord was complaining about. He thinks that if they evacuate the dungeon the expensive monsters they are currently harvesting may stop manifesting/spawning/being born, and all that will be left to harvest is mushrooms and slimes, which are not worth a lot of money.
Laios' group had an assignment from the island lord to try and find the giant doors on the 6th floor that nobody had been able to get past. That was what they were trying to do when they ran into the red dragon and Falin got eaten!
Despite everything, at that time Laios' party was the number one team on the island, capable of going the deepest into the dungeon.
Kabru's team is also considered pretty good, despite how often we see them dying - this should tell you how bad many of the teams that go in are! Most of them don't accomplish much or anything... Just like a boom town, where most miners go into debt trying to find gold, and only a few strike it rich.
This is what Rin is talking about in her first appearance, when she scolds Kabru for being too modest around other adventurers. She wants those other people to know that they are not going into the dungeon for profit and that they're not like the rest of them, dream-chasing fools hoping to make a payday.
She's offended anyone would mistake them for people like that, meanwhile Kabru would rather keep their motivations obscure and not advertise that they're in the dungeon on a moral crusade, not a financial one.
It should also be noted that the dungeon has a lot of criminal activity going on inside of it, because it's not well monitored and it's easy to conceal your activities. There's also a population of people who can "no longer live on the surface" for various reasons, such as being wanted criminals, exiles hiding to avoid vigilante justice, people too poor to leave because they wasted all their money trying to get rich and now they can't afford to live on the surface, or leave the island.
Essentially there is a population of homeless people living in the dungeon, eating anything they can scavenge, begging and stealing to stay alive. This could even be part of the taboo on eating monsters in the dungeon - that's something poor and desperate people do, and doing it is seen as a sign of how low Laios' party has fallen.
This is also why Kabru is so worried about the Touden party: their financials are a mess, but they keep going into the dungeon. Why? People think they are good, but maybe they're secretly criminals? Are they on the run from the law? Kabru has no idea, since "they just really love monsters and this is fun" is not a motivation ANYONE ELSE ON EARTH HAS.
The Toudens can't even say "we're monster researchers trying to write a book on monsters." They're just hobbyists, they just like them a lot. Kui tells us that Laios was encouraged to become a monster researcher but the studying was too intense for him.
It would be like finding out someone who works in a coal mine that kills 80% of the miners doesn't actually care about being paid, they just loooove coal and want to be around coal all the time.

Milsiril get behind me
I will defend her with my life, She is a fucked up person and fucked up mother but she's not a evil mastermind and she is trying her best
Milsiril being postboxed into Kabrus adopted mom whos dehumanising shortlived races by adopting them and infantalising them makes me fucking miserable.
Here is a woman who was bullied her whole life, born in a long line of military hero's who after seeing the oppression of shortlived races by elves as well as the dismissal of their deaths withdraws from her military role, withdraws from her family and dedicates her life to creating a safe and comfortable environment for the shortlived race children who's parents are lost due to the elves inaction and oppression of said shortlived races.
Sure she's not the best at it, yeah she kinda bulldozed whatever the kids probably wanted in favour of putting them in bubble wrap and keeping them safe. But she's clearly trying to give them better lives than the ones they had, which she clearly feels responsible for ruining because of her races actions. When Kabru tells her his honest dream of destroying a dungeon she challenges him, she makes him work to prove himself and then she let's him pursue that dream. She, like every other character in the manga, is flawed in her views and her expression of said views to others, but that doesn't maker her a bad person. It just means she still has some learning and growing to do, and considering how much she still loves Kabru and feels responsible for his safety and happiness I have no doubt post manga she probably will learn to help shortlived races in a more constructive way through her involvement with Kabru in the Golden kingdom.
I think she's a genuinly interesting character and I wish people would take the time to consider her story and it's parallels to the real world (first worlders adopting third world children in hopes of giving them a better life but often inadvertently alienating them from their own culture through their own lack of understanding of those children's pasts and lives. As someone who lives in a third world country talking to people from first world countries is like talking to aliens sometimes and I think the discussion that could be had around Kabru and Milsiril could be genuinly interesting but everyone just wants to hate on her without genuinly considering her character and the impacts she's had on the story and opportunities for further character growth.... Milsiril save me.... Save me nuanced discussion....)
I got Toshiro Nakamoto
Not sure if anyone has done this yet
Spin the wheel and get a dungeon meshi character!!
Tell me who you got in the tags :D
i just saw the tag “canon complicit” instead of “canon compliant” and im laughing its like “canon is a criminal act that i unfortunately support with this fic”

The closest you'll ever get to a peer
Design for shuros mom from @imaybe5tupid here
I have been feeling emboldened heres more shit i made up about shuros mom and maizuru from the majesty of my mind...
Maizuru admires her from afar bc one time she saw her nurse a hurt sparrow back to health and she was like wow... shes so kind...to a creature that will give nothing to her in return.... unlike me.... her #principles... and #SheFellinLoveInstantly
Toshiro's mom was new to the house and never entirely adjusted, shes always felt out of place and doesn't really know what to do. As a result, as the years gone by shes gotten more and more reclusive. At the start, she secretly admired how maizuru interacted deftly with everyone in the house and thought she was graceful but felt too shy to talk to her.
I don't think toshiros mom wanted any of her children and she feels guilty about hoisting that responsibility to maizuru thru inaction but not enough to be present in any of her son's lives. Maizuru entirely blames toshitsugu for this arrangement and this is fine w toshiros mom.
maizuru has this completely idealized version of her that she holds onto for her own sanity. And despite her intelligence, shes selectively oblivious to what shuros mom gives her tacit approval on
toshiros mom initially felt bad about maizurus relationship w toshitsugu n the fact a clearly brilliant woman has to do that to maintain power but gradually became so disillusioned w how maizuru lets her husband do whatever that she grows to resent her even tho she does the same to the point she cant stand seeing her around
maizuru just took this to the chin but i think deep down it broke something in her she cant name
The push n pull of complicity thru inaction and being the one who does the dirty work no one else will do is really interesting to me wrt to their relationship as well as them being the women w power in the house
As toshiro ages, he looks more n more like his mother n it makes maizuru wistful
toshitsugus been condemned to hard labor in the yuri mines. (Jk hes escaping the consequences of ruining ppls lives thru carelessness as always)
izutsumis treatment concerns toshiros mom to the point she almost talks to maizuru again but she takes one look at her and all her resentment and admiration for her comes rushing back and she doesnt say a word. When izutsumis card declines in therapy, i truely believe theyre sending in all the adults that saw something wrong happening and said nothing at that house and when thats done, inexplicably they start sending in the canaries and the queen of the elves for suppressing knowledge of ancient magic and managing to ruin her life from 1000000 miles away #remotework.
How do I tell people that sometimes if you turn your shipping brain off you can interact with media better
Transhuro is Beloved in this house, I sometimes forget she's not a girl
A thought inspired by this post on Toshiro getting something out of his chestplate her bra
There's this one video where Katya Zamolodchikova (drag queen) is talking about how after a function she went to shower and instead of taking off her wig she just clipped it, realised afterwards that taking it off would've been easier, but didn't because she felt ✨like a girl✨
And I'm just thinking. wow, Toshiro's final egg cracker being Falin but really there were fractures put there by aaaaall of the girls in her life lol.
(gonna use he/him below since I think it transmits the concept I'm going for better)
Imagine Toshiro, age 15, sees Hien take something out of her chest bandages for the first time. Goes, woah, that's smart actually. Copies her.
Then pauses.
Marvels briefly at the "✨like a girl✨" feeling,
But they're in the middle of work so the moment passes and they go back to work.
Takes another 11 years and probably a couple other -isms adopted from Maizuru, Beni, and maybe even Namari before the realization hits.

trans het labru is the way (My rare once a month interest in Labru)
kabru, after trying for months to get laios' attention, finally successfully sleeps with the underemployed cashier at his local 24/7 convenience store. they pass out in laios' bed and shes sleeping like a rock bc they hooked up immediately after her twelve hour shift, but kabru wakes in the night. his stomach is growling... he hadnt eaten that day. did he eat yesterday?
he feels terrible about waking laios so he elects to just raid the kitchenette as quietly as possible in the complete darkness. he shuffles around by the dim light of his phone screen until he finds the familiar shape of cup noodles and the electric kettle on the counter.
he opens the lid as the water boils. it smells.... sweet? whatever, its probably fine. he just needs to eat something so he can try and get back to sleep. he waits impatiently as it cooks, and the sweet smell only grows more pronounced--it smells like hot cocoa. was this not cup noodles? was it like, some kind of brownie cup? he hadnt been able to see the label on it very well, so hed just assumed...
he sticks his chop sticks into the cup, and its definitely noodles. does he have covid? is his sense of smell just fucked? if he does, he supposes theres little he can do now until he can get a test in the morning, and he really should eat something either way
he takes his first bite. his nose hadnt lied--the noodles are smores flavored. he has just slept with a woman who buys smores flavored noodles. and now he has to eat them
worst of all ... its really not that bad
Y’all have no problem caring about Palestinians when they’re just names on a banner and faceless martyrs, and you have no issues with “mourning” the dead and not doing anything about those still living. They’re only valuable to you when they’re dead.
thinking of toshiro catching laios off guard with a sudden proposal (post-canon) and then having to figure out how to convey to laios that their marriage is not, in fact, platonic and convenient but actually “lovers being lovers”
toshiro catching on small hints throughout their relationship and coming to a theory that laios might like him romantically
toshiro initially trying his best to not lead him on but then gradually warming up to the idea of being with laios
toshiro’s thought process picking out pros and cons:
“cons: he’s annoying and can’t read a room, etc.”
“pros: he’s genuine, nice, politically powerful (king), kinda cute, etc.”
(* won’t initially realize he thinks laios is cute until he grows suspicious of why he feels funny when the king smiles and laughs *)
(* also doesn’t fully recognize his own feelings for laios, mainly focused on laios liking him and the marriage *)
perhaps one comfortable and carefree visit:
laios: “haha, maybe we should get married, haha”
toshiro: *suddenly deep in thought while laios is talking about something*
then, next visit:
laios: “you had something of urgent matter to tell me?”
toshiro: “due to etc etc, will you marry me?”
laios: “????”
toshiro listing out the logic behind his proposal and then the convenience, fully confident in an acceptance because he believes laios has feelings for him
some months later … they are now married.
then, sometime during the marriage -
laios: “wow it’s nice being platonically married”
toshiro: “???? platonically????”
laios: “yeah - i’m really happy we got closer as friends :D”
toshiro going through a crisis: “i thought he liked me???? is there any other way to interpret a proposal???? now that i think about it, we have only kissed at the wedding????”
toshiro confirming his own feelings to himself for the first time, “oh… i have feelings for him”
fast forward to toshiro planning what he needs to do…
strategy #1:
- court and woo laios (take it slow)
(* or maybe he was already courting him before the marriage, so strategy #1 is just to woo HARDER)
strategy #1 doesn’t seem too too effective….
strategy #2, #3, #4, #n takes place (each strategy is just a more intense courtship than the previous), but toshiro sees no progress in getting his husband to understand (in fact, each strategy just ends with toshiro falling harder for the king rather than the other way around)
(* the king has, however, been slightly confused about the show of affection, along with his own feelings and how flustered he is in response to toshiro:
“wow we’ve really grown as friends :) idk why i feel so happy and warm around him :) must be the friendship” *)
maybe he goes to talk to somebody in the midst of carrying out his strategies then realizes he hasn’t tried telling laios explicitly that he likes (loves) him
stuff happens: toshiro struggles to put his feelings into words for a while but manages to explicitly express to laios he loves him *ROMANTICALLY* and then happy ending with a shy and surprised laios figuring out his own feelings and them both doing their best to navigate an officially confirmed relationship
