i think the best thing about andor is it is almost depressingly realistic. The way they went about planning this mission how few of them there were. From the very beginning of the mission it’s just so tense when the reality of what they’re about to do settles in and Vel hesitates like you can tell she doesn’t want to do it. She doesn’t want to die or watch her friends/partners die. And the way the plan literally never went perfectly from the get go Taramyn said “we’re late” the whole time they were behind schedule. Then of course the comms weren’t clear. They dropped a payload and didn’t secure them which led to another death even when the mission was over when you think “ok finally it’s done we win”. Even before the mission starts and Cassian tells Nemik he’ll be fine. It was eerily and depressingly realistic. The betrayal from Skeen once the mission was over the fact that he was apparently lying the whole time. A crew of seven with only three survivors and this mission was “a success”.

This is how it goes: God whispers in Cain’s jealous ear, drawing his attention to the Sin crouched at his doorway. Sin has haunted eyes and a mouth that has been kissed. This is how it goes: Cain leaves the house at one am in bare feet and a hoodie, careful to avoid the last stair that creaks, and treks out into the Field. Cain feels the difference in the grass when he crosses the border from field to Field, the way the grey-green blades stand up at attention in his wake, the way the dirt turns ice-cold and furious beneath his heels. The earth is good with foreshadowing. The tree of Knowledge has deep roots.

And Cain says, “When you split me and my brother in the womb, you did not divide us evenly. He got kindness, and I got longing. He got complacence, and I got ambition. I want to kill him sometimes. I think sometimes he wants to die.”

I have never made brothers before, God explains. That is how I thought they were made. What more do you want?

“I want to steal some of his kindness,” Cain says, and shakes his pocket knife out of his sleeve.

Back at home, Abel sits up in his bed with a start, heart racing. That was close, he thinks, that was a damn close one, and does not know why.

Now, I’m not saying romantic relationships are inferior, or that they’re useless, or that you being in one or that you shipping some characters romantically is Bad or something off the walls like that. What I’m saying is that two people (or characters, since we’re talking shipping here) can be just as devoted to each other, love each other just as deeply, mean just as much to each other while being in a platonic relationship. The end point of caring about someone doesn’t have to be romance.

Friendship isn’t a stepping stone between strangers and romantic partners, it’s a different path. And you can follow that path as deep into the wood as a romantic one if you want, and neither is inferior to the other, they just have different views.
