Here's a drawing I did last year!! this was the first of a bunch of redesigns I did of Batman villains, I wanted to make them more vintage and add some of the l original inspirations in there. As well as more old horror movie tie ins because I'm a nerd lol. Here goes
I based Two-Face off of the 1931 Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde, as well as the purple and orange suit he originally wears in the comics. I gave him pinstripes and a hat because they would do that to all the goons in old movies and I think it's really funny lol.
Catwoman was based sort of on a lady from The Cat People (1942), she's kinda cool, I would def redo her now but it is what it is!
Last one is Clayface!! This one was actually my favorite, he's got a looooot of old movie inspo, I based him off of the villain in Dr. X (1932), who was a guy who slapped "synthetic flesh" on his face and molded it to look grotesque. That was basically the premise of the original comic Clayface! I put him in the clothes that Lon Chaney wears as the Phantom because Clayface was inspired by the man the myth the legend himself, the man of a thousand faces. Two Phantom posts in a row yeesh you guys are getting it all. No idea what he's doing with his hand lmao. Also not saying I predicted Caped Crusader's Clayface buuuuut.....
Have a great day everybody go watch an old horror movie~
This was my design for the Riddler, please ignore the fact that he has no hands π I thought I would get around to drawing them but I didn't. Pretend he's smoking or holding a loaf of bread or something.
ANYWAYS I didn't have an idea on what I wanted to do for him until I came across a documentary on the Enigma code in WW2 and was like "huh I forgot about that" - all I have on my 1940s-ish version of him so far is that he was born poor but accumulated wealth, and adopted the guise of a bored rich socialite to cope with the fact he grew up dirt poor. Germany was left pretty much starved of resources after the treaty that ended WW1 so that's probably why. The Enigma code was developed in Germany shortly after WW1 but in my universe I like to think he invented it because haha. Inventing a nearly unbreakable code and then naming it after yourself sounds like something Riddler would do lol
I think he'd wear a lot of military inspired clothing, he seems like he'd be really into bomber jackets. I gave him a tiny mustache because I think it's funny that all the bad guy gangster thugs in old movies have one
oh god uhhh, here have this! It's the lone ranger
Kind of annoyed that old movies are always lumped together instead of defined by different genres because like. to me, old movies are just regular movies... a glimpse into my dark and twisted world..... please give them the genre seperation they deserve
I actually just love a proper devoted love story with no cheating, no distractions, no break ups, just two people who match each others freak to the highest level
π
AHH THANK YOU!! Yeah I love em a lot! I have a few more I'll post, I have maybe 4 or 5 unfinished ones (Roxie rocket, Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, among others) sitting around that I might get to someday. Who knows lol
