Just Me And My 3 Favorite Characters, Having Issues….

Just me and my 3 favorite characters, having issues….

A grid with two rows and two columns, making four spaces. Above the grid it reads “Takes risks/won’t take care of themself because” and the two columns read “they think they’re useless” and “they think they’re invincible.” To the right of the rows it reads “has bad social skills because” and the rows read “they come off as cold and aloof” and “they come off as hyper and overbearing.” An image of Lucina from Fire Emblem is in the square at the intersection of “thinks they’re useless” and “cold and aloof.” An image of the Knight from Hollow Knight is at the intersection of “thinks they’re invincible” and “cold and aloof.” An image of Undyne from Undertale is at the intersection of “thinks they’re invincible” and “overbearing and hyper.” A scribbly stick figure with cat ears and tears or eye makeup on their face, labeled “me,” is at the intersection of “thinks they’re useless” and “overbearing and hyper.”

I feel it would be helpful to share this article I found by @urbancripple regarding the correct usage of the accessible stall in a public restroom; if you don’t need the accessible stall, you shouldn’t use it, even if the others are all full. As an able-bodied person, I am ashamed to not have been aware of this, and I wanted to spread the message.

If the Accessible Stall is the Only One Available, Should I Use It?
urbancripple.com
I’m abled, and I was always taught that if the other stalls are free, to use those, but if there’s a long line to help it move faster by usi

The author has answered other questions regarding needing accessible restrooms and further clarified that the need for the accessible stall or accessible restroom doesn’t have to be because of a mobility issue, but it does have to be a need rather than a matter of convenience. Here are links to the other questions and answers about this:

Using the accessible stall to avoid an accident

When the only gender-neutral restroom is the accessible one

Using the accessible restroom for sensory sensitivity

Just one stall in the men’s room

Having your own OC as your Blorbo is great because you will never have to see a bad Fannon brainrot take or awful but inexplicably popular ship involving them, but also I Have To Do Everything Myself Around Here Augh

I love this. I want to make music and art about how much I love my friends and my headmate* and heck, how much I love dandelions and everything I see them as standing for. We are not broken. We are not lacking. We are complete and beautiful human beings. I have so much love in my life, and I am grateful for it.

*Though it’s been a complicated relationship to rival any confusing on-again-off-again romance, lol

This from my sister on Discord

A Discord message reading “Oakie is down by half a percentage point in the semifinals and voting closes in less than three hours. I have become unreasonably invested in guiding this nerdy little tree school to acorn mascot victory . Fun fact Oakie is the only canonically queer mascot in the competition. They use they/them pronouns in all school programming.” The username and profile picture are blacked out.

Tumblr people, can I ask something weird? Can I ask you to vote in a popular tournament poll…. Not on this hellsite? 🥺👉👈

Mascot Madness - SUNY
suny.edu
SUNY Mascot Madness is the battle to decide New York's favorite college mascot.

My school’s mascot is Oakie the Acorn, and they’re probably the Tumblr-est mascot you could think of.

Oakie the Acorn, a yellow acorn with a brown cap, green arms and legs and a cartoon face.

I mean, they’re an acorn for goodness’ sake, they’re officially non-binary, and they’re all about sustainability. The school they represent is also very tumblr- SUNY ESF is a school dedicated to saving the Earth, and its student culture makes it a place where the genders are queer and the neuros are divergent :) People just stop to stare at a weird mushroom or interesting insect all the time here, and if someone spots them, instead of ridicule, you’ll probably have two people staring.

In conclusion, vote for Oakie!

I gotta say, so much queer intra-community horseshit dropped off my shoulders when I decided to adopt a firm policy that everyone is the expert in their own identity, the single most knowledgeable person about what it's like to live life in their own skin, and that if someone describes their experience in ways I find contradictory or paradoxical I should do them the courtesy of presuming that they are striving to express something very specific and nuanced, rather than leaping to the conclusion that they're just dumb and using words wrong.

Sure, there are some combinations of identity terms that I look at and go "hmm, I don't get how that works." I'm still a human being. But there's a big difference between not getting how something works versus insisting that it doesn't.

I feel like lots of people are forgetting about how queer readings of media has always been gay culture. It's broadened out to headcannons and AUs and such. I feel that usually when someone expresses their personal queer reading of a character who was never written to be queer there is always backlash and lots of hate to that person.

The Office could be read as a lesbian love story between a dyke and the best friend she's in love with who's already engaged to a man. Many sapphics find Jim Halpert's situation relatable and has drawn Jim as a lesbian. There are paragraphs and fanfictions that explain the queerness they see in Jim Halpert. Yes the reality is that Jim Halpert is just a cishet white boy who's an ok person. People who hate on these queer readings are usually ignorant.

The thing is I don't think that queer readings and headcannons only come from a desire for representation. I think it's a from of self expression.

Usually when people talk about queer rep and queerbait its in the context of television, cartoons, and books. It's the marketable representation. Authentic queerness in art comes from the sheer desire to express and dream and imagination. Imagination is a wonderful thing!!

Let queer people have their headcannons. Let people draw characters as a ethnicity and race that's different from canon. Let disabled artists people draw and write their favorite characters as disabled.

How dare people insert themselves in media and feel joy. You're a bully if you think that's cringe and you need to grow the fuck up

Neurodivergent obsessions

Hi, we're the River System! Katlyn (she/they) and Jacob (he/him). Came for the fandoms, stayed for the off-the-wall and the cringe. 22, autistic (language abled and low support needs), Environmental Biology major. Actual Mad Scientists ;) [We do science and don't do sanity!] Mostly this is Katlyn obsessing over bugs and fandoms (Undertale, Hollow Knight, Little Nightmares, Fire Emblem: Awakening, RWBY, Arcane). Also may include photography, dark aesthetics, and general chaos from Jacob. (Cover photo by Sagar Patil on Unsplash)
