Butterflies are basically just a subgroup of moths. I think we as a society need to appreciate moths more.
btw we as a society need to redeem the reputation of moths. Butterflies are seen as beautiful and beneficial and a normal thing to like, but moths are gross and creepy and ugly???
It's so dumb! Moths can be beautiful and colorful like butterflies can be and they are important pollinators! They visit flowers that bees ignore! Moths are a way larger and more diverse group than butterflies anyway!!
Italian, German, Swedish, Polish, Hungarian and English and I only really know my ancestry up to my great-grandparents đ€· Sadly the only one I currently speak fluently is English, growing up âwhiteâ in the US⊠I heard somewhere that being considered white in the USA often means giving up aspects of oneâs culture and heritage in order to fit in, and knowing that so much never got passed down in the generations between my great-grandparents and me makes me really feel like thereâs some truth to that.
Reblog with what languages.
Weâve seen people talking about this and wanted to join in. Hereâs our costume!
[Image Description from alt text: An image of a person in a homemade cockroach costume, taken from the back. The costume features long brown âwingsâ attached to the back of their shirt, an oval with a black pattern on it representing a cockroachâs pronotum covering the back of their neck, and a headband with long orange âantennae.â End ID.]
Weâre an Australian Cockroach, Periplaneta australasiae!
Happy Halloween!!!
@lizardonatoadstool thanks for reblogging! This is a digital piece we did based on a stock photo, and we're super proud of it!
Tumblr people, can I ask something weird? Can I ask you to vote in a popular tournament pollâŠ. Not on this hellsite? đ„șđđ
My schoolâs mascot is Oakie the Acorn, and theyâre probably the Tumblr-est mascot you could think of.
I mean, theyâre an acorn for goodnessâ sake, theyâre officially non-binary, and theyâre all about sustainability. The school they represent is also very tumblr- SUNY ESF is a school dedicated to saving the Earth, and its student culture makes it a place where the genders are queer and the neuros are divergent :) People just stop to stare at a weird mushroom or interesting insect all the time here, and if someone spots them, instead of ridicule, youâll probably have two people staring.
In conclusion, vote for Oakie!
With their tiny buggy feet.
I want #hemiptera to stomp on me.
I hate walking outside and hearing something crunch underfoot. I never know if itâs a stick or if I now have to mourn some hapless invertebrate I accidentally crushed.
@afoolandathief thank you for supporting Oakie! Here are some bird sketches from my ornithology class last summer.
(If you see this post and want us to post more art, vote for Oakie here and reply, message us, or like the post linked here to let us know!)
Bug zappers kill bugs by the thousands. But thereâs a problem: They kill the wrong bugs. They are ineffective against mosquitoes and other biting flies, and their otherwise indiscriminate killing can disrupt pollination and generally throw the environment out of balance. Plus, the force of their electrocution can spew a mist of disease-ridden bug parts out into the air. All of the mosquito experts we spoke with and every relevant university extension office we could find unanimously condemned bug zappers. To keep an area free of bugs or to prevent yourself from getting bitten, there are much better alternatives.

Hi everyone, weâre doing this again! The not-on-this-hellsite mascot poll is happening, and weâre encouraging people to vote for our favorite non-binary acorn! Like last time, weâll post an art piece weâve done for everyone who votes.

Hi, we're the River System! Katlyn (she/they) and Jacob (he/him). Came for the fandoms, stayed for the off-the-wall and the cringe. 22, autistic (language abled and low support needs), Environmental Biology major. Actual Mad Scientists ;) [We do science and don't do sanity!] Mostly this is Katlyn obsessing over bugs and fandoms (Undertale, Hollow Knight, Little Nightmares, Fire Emblem: Awakening, RWBY, Arcane). Also may include photography, dark aesthetics, and general chaos from Jacob. (Cover photo by Sagar Patil on Unsplash)
