Do you actually understand what radfems believe? I don't think you do (and no, vague callout posts don't count)
*record scratch*
This is the point where you benevolently instruct me on what radical feminism "really" is, invoking a no-true-scotsman fallacy for the vast majority of radical feminists I have encountered, educating me into a benevolent version of radical feminism that is "just" about recognizing women as an oppressed class, "just" acknowledging biology, "just" about protecting the lesbians that are under imminent threat of being raped by men that use trans inclusive legislation to "access women's spaces."
At which point I am supposed to go, "Yeah, that makes a lot of sense, and I guess the whole TERF thing is piggybacking on a long trend of people hating feminism for no reason!"
Unfortunately for you, you're not the first person to try this, nor am I unfamiliar with the so called Radical Feminists, and I know that what probably appears and feels like innocent and important critical thought is the mouth of a deep pit with hateful bigotry, batshit assumptions, and oppressive, restrictive bio-essentialism at the bottom of it.
You possess only benevolent concern for trans men, until you start calling recipients of mastectomies and hysterectomies "ruined" and "mutilated." You just want to stop abuse, until a woman is alleged to be an abuser, and this doesn't seem possible to you. You just want to acknowledge the reality of biology, until a person born with two X chromosomes and a vagina and labia who also has facial hair and a deep voice wants to use the bathroom, and it feels to you like she shouldn't.
The radfem understanding of "biology" and its importance is wrong. There is no need to "affirm" or "deny" biology. It just is. No matter what your opinion on the nature of intersex conditions, a strict biological sex binary in human bodies objectively does not exist. We are talking about science. There is no "should."
To consider the conditions necessary for reproduction, or anything that is evolutionarily advantageous, as a moral imperative is bonkers. It is not "better" to conform more to a sex binary. God is not watching. My uterus does not "make" me a woman because it's not "for" anything. I potentially CAN become pregnant but biology does not "want" me to, evolution has not made me "for" being a woman, evolution does not think or want or intend ANYTHING. Categorizing people based on which size gametes they could produce under ideal circumstances is 100% a choice.
To judge human reproductive biology as a moral ideal is survivorship bias; yes, we "have to" have "biological sexes" (which really doesnt mean anything outside of having differentiated gametes) to cOnTiNuE aS a SpEcIeS. No, this does not mean that everyone does fall into one of two categories, or that everyone should, or that we should care about the consequences if we don't. "Humans have two sexes except for disorders" is not the objective statement you think it is. On a cosmological scale, life itself is an anomalous disruption of equilibrium. We are disorder.
Y'all are like 4% away from being far-right evangelicals in MANY of your ideas. When you assert that trans men only "identify" as men because they're unhappy and you're only benevolently concerned about them, you're repeating something that homophobic fundamentalists very much do say about lesbians (and the most threatening thing about lesbians to these fundamentalists is their gender non-conformity!) The same group of people cites human reproductive biology as evidence that no one is "really" gay.
And of course, if you take producing eggs as both the fundamental defining quality of a woman and as more sacred or defining than anything else, and you feel entitled to the bodies of trans men to the extent that you think you have any say at all in what medical procedures they do or don't have, you fundamentally don't support reproductive rights. You don't support the rights of women to their own bodies, you don't support the rights of men to their own bodies, and there are indeed many self-identifying "pro-life radfems," who have taken this idea to its logical conclusion.
Do not do this. Stop. Your ideas about trans people are repugnant, don't get me wrong, but fundamentally this stuff hurts everyone. I would not be a "radfem" even if it wasn't for the bigotry toward trans people. The whole ideology is ass backwards. And it is stuffed to the brim with people who are willing to hurt anyone, even those they are supposedly defending, in order to hurt the people they hate.
Harry Potter Rewrite: Religion.
The original Harry Potter series was heavily influenced by the Christian religion. I never thought it made much sense, so I decided to make it so that the majority (especially purebloods and half-bloods) practice paganism. They’ll have their own traditions and festivals and holidays.
There will be other students who don’t practice paganism, but that enjoy some of their holidays. So far, some of the students (in the Marauders’ Era, since that’s what I’m working on at the moment) who aren’t Pagans are:
1. James Potter—Hinduism
2. Peter Pettigrew—Atheist
3. Severus Snape—Atheist, but has Catholic leanings due to his muggle father
4. Lily Evans—Atheist, family is Catholic
Of course, other religions such as Judaism, Islam, and many more, will be included. I’m just currently doing my research on these religions so that I can portray them well. Any help or suggestion is welcomed.
Any thoughts?
Hari raised by Sirius and Remus 😊
Thank you thank you thank you!!
I’ve gotten a flood of votes overnight, I’m so touched! Everyone’s using Hari’s Indian name and I find it so touching!
Keep the votes coming! The voting won’t end until I’ve finished or mostly finished the Marauders’ Era part of the rewrite!
Who Should Raise Hari? Vote!
I want to write. I have ideas. I open document. I type four of the worst sentences ever created in the english language. I daydream the rest of the scene. I close document.
This could have been so perfect🥲 Does anyone know what happened to the OP or if they have another account where I can find them?
So I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. However whilst reading the series, one thing struck me above everything else - the way Hogwarts and the greater Wizarding World is seemingly set up just doesn’t make logical sense! Only one teacher per subject? With JKR telling us that there are approximately 1000 students at Hogwarts at any given time? 493 knuts per galleon? No Wizarding primary schools or higher education? So, me being the autistic Ravenclaw that I am, this took away from my enjoyment of the series. I needed it to make mathematical sense!
So I fixed it.
I have spend two years on and off coming up with a detailed overview of the school, from the number of total students and the male/female ratio, the number of students in every house, in every year, and how many could reasonably fit in one class at a time. Then I started on my class timetables. I had to appropriately plan every student’s schedule to make sure that no one had any overlapping classes, this ended up meaning manually writing down which subjects every student took and then sorting them alphabetically into classes based on the fact that I didn’t want more than 30 kids per class.
That still wasn’t enough though. I then had to figure out how we would get 1000 kids to school safely and efficiently, how we would sort them without making the entire school sit there for 3+ hours, how many professors would have to live at the school in order to provide adequate supervision for 1000 kids, a comprehensive list of school rules, an actual system of how many house points one would gain/lose…… I really dug myself into a hole and I couldn’t stop. In fact I’m still not done and I still can’t stop. There are SO many holes in this world.
Beyond this I have a whole alternate timeline that this whole thing is based on. Long story short, in my headcanon, the war ‘officially’ began with The Battle of the Department of Mysteries (which I have modernised to take place in June 2018) and ended in January 2020 with The Battle of Hogwarts, and then all students were required to repeat whatever year they were in during the war, because holy shit, the fact that they didn’t make any of them repeat a year after that mess is ridiculous. I’m surprised any of them even passed DADA with Umbridge!! Or that anyone accomplished anything the year Voldemort was literally in control of the school. Now I realise that modernising this story is probably an unpopular take - however I must stress how much I’m mainly doing this for myself so I can live out my Harry Potter fantasies in a relatable way lol. Feel free to ignore the modern times and just take my numbers to the original 90’s timeline if you’d rather do that than put yourself into the story like I do.
Also let it be known that I am in my 20’s and a mother of two… but my therapist knows about this and says it’s a HEALTY COPING MECHANISM…. soooooooo, guess I’m gonna just keep writing out this timeline and imaging what life would be like if I was 16 again woo! Anyway… Harry’s year would have to repeat Sixth Year. And believe me when I say the level of intricate detail in my alternate timeline is just wild. If you think I’m crazy for doing just this ‘Logical Hogwarts’ thing….. you don’t even want to see my alternate timeline. It’s wild. I’m way too invested in this. I’ve written over 30k words so far and I’m not stopping.
Also in my headcanon Hogwarts, everyone I like just lives because I’m doing this to escape my depression not to become even more depressed thank you very much! Snape, Lupin and Sirius Black all live and are put in a position where they have to run the DADA department together because, um, IMAGINE THE HILARITY!? Them hating each other, then eventually having to figure out how to work together? Reluctant forgiveness turned sincere apologies turned genuine friendship?? Also Remus and Sirius are so gay and Harry lives with them. Tonks has a different husband, they still both die and Teddy still exists. Harry is still Teddy’s godfather because of the genuine friendship he formed with Tonks. Dumbledore still dies. Originally he wasn’t going to but he just has to, I realised the story doesn’t work if he lives.
So, here we are. The second wave of Logical Hogwarts, re-vamped, rewritten in some parts, lots more added on! Two years and one more kid later! Feel free to take this for personal use or fanfiction or whatever, tag me or message me if you do I want to see your class timetable! Or if you want me to make you a class timetable I’ll do it!
(Disclaimer; I still look after my kids I promise. I just don’t sleep which is how I have time for this ;))
I’ve tried to make this as easy to read and navigate as I possibly can, so I’ve created a seperate page for every different aspect of this world. I didn’t like the look of the master post and scrolling for so long was overwhelming. So, here it goes…
Hogwarts student body (the numbers)
Hogwarts student body (the names) Hogwarts dormitories
Hogwarts prefects and head boy & girl Hogwarts staff & faculty Hogwarts School Rules (this was THE MOST fun to write) The Hogwarts Express (but it makes sense now)
The Sorting Ceremony (but it doesn’t suck now)
Someone‘s preferred name is not debatable.
if someone asks you to call them a name
you call them by that fucking name
this is NOT debatable.
Verosui.
[ veros: “genuine” (Greek); sui: “self” (Latin). ]
OFFICIAL NAME. Verosui
ALSO KNOWN AS. The Holy Messenger OR The Amender
SIZE. 14.5 in
DIET. They eat berries, but they also enjoy eating arthropods and small invertebrates such as spiders, scorpions, centipedes and such.
ABOUT THEM. There used to be an ancient ceremony where whenever someone announced that they were born in the wrong body, they would contact the Goddess via a song so that She would send her beloved pet, the Verosui, to right her wrong. The Amender would arrive a week after the song, to perform its magic. During this week, the village or family would gather around in prayer so that the Amender will show its holy compassion as a sign of compassion towards the sufferer.
Once the Amender arrives, they shall see if a person’s true self would be what they claim. If they deem it necessary, they shall begin the performance of sex reassignment, which really involves powerful magic being used while they fly in circles around their target. It is said that the experience is a mixture of thrilling and painful, so it would really depend on who the person is.
Unfortunately, this ceremony was banned in 1903 by the Minister of Magic at the time — K. Rowl. Ever since then, the wixes were forced to forget about this ceremony since they would be persecuted if they attempted to relieve a sufferer’s pain. Sufferers were soon scorned and mocked if they came out.
with the tags and search officially being completely broken on all platforms (no new posts are showing up in them anymore), now feels like a good time to remind everyone that the only way to help creators is to reblog their stuff. even before the tags were busted most people found new creators through their content being rebloged onto their dash, and now, at least for the time being, that will be the Only way to find and spread things.
Fast reblog is a thing, you dont have to leave comments, you dont have to leave tags, just reblog stuff if you want to keep seeing new content being posted to this site.
and as a final note, with this change likes are officially completely pointless for content creators. up till now they served to boost a posts placement in the tag searches (a post tagged #girl with 40 likes would show up higher in the search than a post tagged #girl with only 10 likes,)
[outdated. the glitch was fixed a few hours after this post was made ^^ still reblog stuff tho]
I have some advice for a way to portray the Marauders and Snape's relationship! They bullied him, but Snape was never defenseless (except for That Prank) and I think it started from some animosity on the train during their first year, them Snape continued to be a jerk. Snape seemed to be the only person that they were constantly picking on, so must've done something to earn their ire. They were pranksters, but not normally bullies. Most of the students and teachers had mostly good things to say about them.
I think a good way to portray it is that the Marauders and Snape constantly being at each other's throats in small, petty ways. The Marauders would only go after Snape when he deserved it or was being extra bloodcult-y. They were bullies because they all ganged up on him, but I don't think that was always the case.
I think they had some kind of moral code - they were Gryffindors after all, if nothing else, their honor would've stopped them from always going after him physically - so it was usually just one on one or two to one. The others would be the lookouts, or help them plan. They'd insult him and he'd fire right back.
Most of their pranks were harmless, I think, except for The Prank. Mostly cutting words and petty actions that didn't mean much at the time, but mounted up to he quite annoying.
Hope this helps!
Hey Anon!
Firstly, thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it.
Secondly, I've been interacting with some Snape stans because I wanted him to be humanized. Snape, as well as the Marauders, are going to have a lot of flaws, but also a lot of good traits. There are going to be times in which the Marauders prank Snape unprovoked. There are going to be other times where it is going to be Snape who's going after them.
We're going to see a lot of Snape's softer side during their fifth and sixth years, after his relationship with Lily ends. Lily will be grieving for their lost friendship, and will sometimes talk about fond memories with Snape. I don't want to spoil it too much, that is all you'll be getting.
Now, Snape is not going to be defenseless. He will lash out and get his revenge when he feels is needed. But neither will the Marauders. For the majority of the story, it's going to be a mutual rivalry, until the moment they humiliated him in front of the school - this incident is going to shift something within a lot of people, for the better or for the worst.
who was gonna tell me that writing takes longer than i thought and part of my emotional stability?
