i understand historically why it happens (colonization and wars and genocides and such) and im not here to argue that but hot take, i honestly wish Greek/Roman gods and goddesses weren't so popular and weren't so talked about. i think Percy Jackson and Marvel has made it so much worse but i get tired of running into polytheist/deity worship blogs that all honor the same like 5 gods. not intending to be mean but i get so bored reading 34758695 posts about how Aphrodite's light and love will cure self esteem and self love or whatever and lists of correspondences to rocks you need on your altar to honor loki
Valid. It does feel like there is clique-y behavior in witchcraft and pagan communities online where the same 5 deities are talked about constantly.
I also feel this popularity makes it hard for those interested in paganism to branch out and find what deities catch their interest. There are hundreds of deities. But I can only think of... less than 10 that get talked about consistently online.
Meeting Apollo
(My experience working with the Gods. UPG)
2021 was a strange year with even stranger occurrences.
I found a lot of information in person of what magic in real life actually looks like. My parents were witches but very rarely practiced.
A friend who was a Lokean helped me with something that happened (which I will go in depth another day). Loki and his presence was very strong. I can’t remember exactly what I asked but the way he answered (through my friend) was “you’re definitely Apollo’s.” (Which I should have noticed because he sent me dreams constantly with signs but…)
Not long after I welcomed him in my life, I began to feel, hear, and see Apollo. It was weird (then again a lot of things were weird at this time), but it was also lots of fun.
Apollo was incredibly excited to be able to communicate and share information. His excitement I could feel like a full body buzz that made me giggle. I was obsessed (and a bit fearful) with being proper and worshiping him the “right way”, but he slowed me down and made me realize that it’s supposed to be fun. My practice was an adventure, something that will evolve with time, just embrace this beginning with him.
He taught me about the modernization of the Gods and how they are capable of not only understanding but enjoying modern things. It’s important to respect their root likes, but also… “That dodgeball meme is the funniest fucking thing.”
I still have a wonderful bond with Apollo. We have had our miscommunications and discussions on how to prevent them, which only made our bond stronger.
I offer him Wine and Peach Crown Royal Whisky. I play him classical music and Ke$ha. We love watching documentaries and Labyrinth. I pray to his accomplishments in mythology and our accomplishments together.
I honor you Phoebus Apollo, I thank you for our incredible bond. I am grateful for everything that you’ve taught me and I can’t wait to continue!
Love, Sunspot
To those who are still reading I share my favorite advice. Learn about them like a friend, what’s written down years ago is important, but there’s been a lot of new things in that time.
Lastly have fun. Just enjoy what you’re doing. It’s such a wonderful gift that we’ve found our path. We could have never discovered this and yet here we are!!! Love your practice, it’s an evolving gift.
Additional notes about guardian angels:
•you may fall under the guardianship of more than one
•your guardian angel’s very first decision at the moment of creation was to love you and accept its role as your guardian angel
•your guardian angel knows you completely and it’s knowledge is only second to God’s because it sees your life as it unfolds in time whereas God has known your entire life since before mortal life existed
•Fr. Ripperger (a Catholic exorcist) did a very cool talk about guardian angels that is available on YouTube
Thank you anon!! 🕊
In a move past-me would have never expected, I've started leaning into angel work and I'm really enjoying it so far. It clicks.
I find myself wrestling with the finer details. The way angels largely work in a traditional Jewish path means that offerings are, depending on your theology, either not appropriate, not needed, or not possible. As a Jewitch I want to recognize that, yet the spirit worker in me feels compelled; I want to honor and thank them in some way, I want to do something to recognize their work and tie it back to my practice in a tangible way. I'm still learning how to blend newer spirit work philosophy with older tradition, figure out my personal theology around it.
Angel workers (or just folks who include angels in their practice) who may be reading this, I'm curious to know your thoughts! I'd love to hear any details about your personal routine practice if you're comfortable sharing. I think hearing from other folks will give me inspiration and ideas, even if your traditions are different from mine.
A couple of years ago I dreamt of a wandering a hallway that reminded me of what people may walk through in an old prestigious academic institution. In my wandering, I would curiously open doors-not to find anything but to explore. At one point I opened a door and found a humanoid looking entity glowing, flashing, and shifting from one part of a large open room to another with intense speed.
I asked if it was an angel in anyway, and without hesitation of thought or movement it projected, “We are all an aspect of God!” I was then guided out of the room by someone/something behind me, only to realize I was in a completely different room that gave me library vibes. I say this only because I was not focused on the room itself but who was in it.
A very tall golden man with illuminating eyes of a vibrant blue color walked directly into my focus and almost seemed to lower himself or help me adjust my line of sight because he was just THAT BIG. He came off as strong and capable- making me feel secure & safe within his presence. His smile wide and brilliant. He was so friendly!
Now here comes the clever part!
“Who are you?”, I asked.
“My name is Miguel.” His eyes gazed at me softly, but maintained their power and steadiness.
I instantly responded with recognition due to my two years of required foreign language in high-school, “ Oh, that’s Michael in English! So Archangel Michael??” He nodded with gentle encouragement as he ushered for another man who looked exactly like him - a twin I thought- who had the same fiery eyes in radiant purple to stand next to him and introduce himself.
“And what about him? What is your name?”
“My name is Raguel.” He smiled just the same. The gears in my head stopped turning.
“I’m sorry don’t know that name in Spanish??” I definitely never heard of an angel named Raguel either. I woke up. I figured what I dreamt of was not a real spiritual encounter but just my brains projection of one in a dream.
I proceeded to look up the name to attempt to find the English equivalent, only to get search results pertaining to:
When I thought about it, I realized that Michael may have used Spanish to help me retain Raguel’s name, because when I’m in a dream (that’s not lucid) information is instantly deemed as made up & unreal if it is not something that I perceive to be real during my waking life. So I will instantly discard it. So the fact that he used Spanish made me curious about the the possible “Spanish” name I never heard of.

From the Encyclopedia of Angels by Richard Webster
Spirit/Entity Work and Spirit/Entity Work are two different things. Spirit/Entity work involves working with spirits/entities that assist the practitioner in their metaphysical and mundane lives. It's forming a relationship between yourself and the spirit/entity as a partnership to ask for their assistance in exchange for offerings or work to be done on behalf of the spirit/entities.
It's not always guaranteed that the spirit/entity you petition for help in whatever it is you need help with will actually agree to help you and that's okay one, respect their wishes and two, there are other spirits/entities you can reach out to for help with your situation. On the other hand the same goes if a spirit/entity reaches out to you for whatever reason, you're not obligated to work with them (whether at this time or at all) if you don't want to.
Spirit/Entity worship is when you devote yourself or an aspect of your life, practice etc. to a spirit/entity. It's you honouring said spirit/entity by living your life according to the values of said spirit/entity and the culture they originate from and by adopting their morals, values etc. and living your life in a way that not only shows respect and honour to the spirit/entity but the culture they originate from as well.
While the interactions between the spirit/entity and the devotee isn't as much or as frequent as it would've been between a spirit/entity and their practitioner. Sometimes the spirit/entity will visit their devotee from time to time and sometimes spirits/entities do decide to bless their devotees in some way if they think that their devotees deserve it. Now this isn't something to work towards, neither should it really be an aim. Just be authentic in your devotion and good things might happen.
You don't have to be a witch/call yourself a witch to work or worship spirits/entities, neither does working or worshiping spirits/entities make you a witch. However, you can incorporate working or worshiping spirits/entities into your witchcraft if that's what you'd like, but remember you don't have to be a witch to practice either paths and neither does practising either paths make you a witch.
Before starting with spirit/entity work or worship decide which you like more spirit/entity work or spirit/entity worship? Which practice resonates with you more? For the rest of this post I will be talking in terms of spirit/entity work, because I'm a spirit/entity worker and have much more experience in spirit/entity work than I do spirit/entity worship.
Before delving into spirit/entity work decide which facets of spirit/entity work you'd like to focus on. There's general spirit/entity work (or eclectic spirit/entity work) where you work with a mix of different types of spirits and entities like deites, angels, the good neighbours, pop culture entities, demons etc. You could also look at specific facets of spirit/entity work like deity work (where you mainly work with deities) , ancestor work (where you mainly work with your ancestors) , demon/infernal work (where you mainly work with demons and other infernal spirit/entities (like underworld gods)), fae work (where you mainly work with the fae and other fae-like spirits and entities) and so on.
No facet of spirit/entity work is any less or more important or any less or more hard work than the other. They all have different ways of being handled and each facet has different rules and regulations than the other facets (some facets' rule collide in some cases). You don't have to decide immediately on which facet you'd like to focus on. Do your research, test the waters and than decide which facets you'd like to focus on.
Do a bit more research on the facet of spirit/entity work you'd like to focus on and also make sure you're in a comfortable place with the basics of protection, warding etc, the basics of energy work (or at least energy sensing), the basics of vetting (and when I say vetting I'm not talking about vetting them to figure out if they're some imposter spirit (but if imposter spirits are apart of your practice than sure you can do the vetting with this in mind) , I mean vetting in the way of getting to know the spirit/entity more), make sure you have a reliable method of divination yet (and if possible have someone you can trust and that's reliable who can confirm or deny your findings) and make sure you at least have some basics understanding of what boundaries are and the dos and don'ts of boundaries.
Say for instance you've decided you'd like to do deity work. If you've felt drawn to a specific (open and welcoming) pantheon like the Greek pantheon or the Celtic pantheon than do more research on the pantheon of your choosing, research the culture, the practices, the dos and don'ts of the culture and of course do research on the deity(s) you'd like to work with. Once you feel like you're in a comfortable place with the knowledge you have send out an invitation to the deity and hope they bite and reach out to you.
Remember even if they reach out it's not guaranteed that they'll actually work with you. They might just be reaching out to check out whoever it was that invited them. If they don't reach out, leave it at that, don't try and force the situation and just move on. There are plenty more deities in the universe who would be much more suited for you and your needs and interested in working with you.
You don't have to have had worshipped or honoured the deity before reaching out to work with them to start working with the deity, but if that's something you'd like to do than that's completely okay and you can do that if you'd like. You can also decide to do spirit/entity worship before you delve into spirit/entity work if you'd first like to get comfortable with the whole practice and if you're still trying to figure out what it is you'd like from this practice and no.
Remember you actually have to be willing to do the work if you do decide to delve into spirit/entity work (I think there are certain spirits/entities who do send their devotees tests and such, so you definitely also have to be willing to do the work when it comes to spirit/entity worship too). You can't just decide to reach out to a spirit/entity (whether they're a deity, angel, demon etc), if you're not willing or wanting to put in the necessary work.
There are a lot of spirits/entities that do not take kindly to their time being wasted for no reason and if this happens multiple times remember that the spirits and entities love to gossip and your name will definitely be shared if you think disrespecting them in such a way (not doing your work even after asking or agreeing to work with them and not keeping your end if the deal of whatever agreement you and the spirit/entity made before you started your working relationship together) will slide.
Contrary to what it might seem like according to social media (especially tiktok) spirit/entity work (especially deity work) is not that hard or overcomplicated. The only way it'll be hard is if you fight the spirit/entity on everything and don't want to do the work or face the tests. Having boundaries is good, but acting like a child and not wanting to do what you're told (as long as it's logical and it's in your ability to complete) is not going to make the working relationship any easier and it might end up making the spirit/entity leave because what's the point of them being there if you don't want to do the work?
When it comes to offerings and interactions it will depend on you and the spirit/entity itself, meaning while getting outside help is okay you cannot and shouldn't depend on outsiders when it comes to the relationship you have/want to build with the spirit/entity. Yes, you can find general resources and such on what a spirit/entity would like as an offering and you can ask other (reliable) practitioners on what kind of offerings a specific spirit/entity might like if you're just starting out.
However, it's also important to build your own relationship with the spirit/entity and figure out what works and what doesn't on your own (with the help of the spirit/entity of course) because one, what an offering a spirit/entity might like from one practitioner might be an offering the spirit/entity doesn't like or want to get from you and vice versa and two, like I mentioned while getting outside help is okay you cannot and shouldn't depend on outsiders for every single thing when it comes to your relationships and your practice in general.
With interactions, the basic idea is to be as respectful as you can be and make sure to address the spirit/entity by their proper formal title (if they have formal titles) like King, Queen, Marquis/Marquess, Duke, Prince etc and definitely don't call them lord or lady if they do have a formal title because even if you think it's respectful to some extent "lord/lady" hold little to no importance compared to most of spirits/entities' formal titles.
If you're not certain how to address a spirit/entity ask them. If ask them if you can address them by their formal title or if there is another way you can address them. Always ask the spirit/entity yourself what they'd prefer you call them by, while it's fine to ask for extra confirmation from a RELIABLE source, don't depend on others, especially not ones who insinuate it's okay to disrespect a spirit/entity's title (i.e. reffering to a Grand Marquis with something as insignificant as "Lord") when it comes things like these.
This is my own personal gnosis gathered through my own personal experience as well as research I've done. If you don't resonate with the below than that's okay, what's not cool is disrespecting me just because my experiences are different than yours
Can you tell us a bit about Jophiel? She fascinates me.
Hello fierysword :) (I'm actually flattered that you've sent me an ask!)
So Jophiel. She's not one of the "seven" in my own practice, but I'd be more than happy to talk about an archangel 💫
Jophiel (Jofiel, Zophiel, Iophiel, Iofiel, Yofiel, and Yofiel) is the "beauty of God" also seen as the "Angel of Beauty". She is also regarded as a companion to Metatron
You can petition her or pray to her for:
Seeing beauty in things (such as God's creation)
Seeing beauty in God (and his holiness)
Self esteem (seeing yourself as the divine see you)
Creative inspiration
Helping your thought patterns and addictions
Joy in life
Transformation
Considering this, her domains could be conflated with Haniel's (Anael, joy of God. Harmony, poise and grace) and Zadkiel (Sachiel, angel of Mercy. Who can help with stress, anxiety etc.)
But looking to her domains, you can consider her an Archangel of gratitude, perspectives and inner thinking. A great archangel for shadow work in combination with other angels (like Zadkiel, who according to the Zohar, helps her and Michael battle evil), a very strong contender as a transformer of negative to positive thoughts
Additionally you can consider her domains to be:
Wisdom
Spiritual and religious reading
Knowledge
As Jewish tradition notes that she is the angel guarding the Tree of Knowledge with a flaming sword (sword is also attributed to Uriel, and being a wisdom archangel can be conflated with Uriel) and so she is a guardian of knowledge. She is also said to oversee Sabbath day Torah readings
She has also been written to be the angel of the seventh heaven and guardian of the Torah, who also taught 70 languages to souls at creation
As a patron angel you can call her:
Patron of Artists and Intellectuals as the angel who can bring beautiful inspiring thoughts (also attributed to Gabriel and Uriel)
Patron of Recovering People, as she can bring joy and light after darkness (also attributed to Zadkiel)
Patron of Balance (though typically attributed to Anael), as her association with bringing beauty is also associated with Feng Shui
Some systems may replace Jophiel with Raziel though places Jophiel is mentioned, other than what has been mentioned, includes:
Pseudo-Dionysus works
Kabbalah
Calendarium Naturale Magicum Perpetuum
The Veritable Clavicles of Solomon
Sixth and Seventh book of Moses
In terms of planetary correspondences, Agrippa attributes Jophiel to Saturn (Cassiel in ars paulina) and Paracelsus assigns to Jupiter (Zadkiel/Sachiel)
Robert Ambelain says Jophiel is in charge of this cherubim ("Prince of Cherubim"); Haziel, Aladiah, Lauviah, Hahaiah, Iezalel, Mehahel, Hariel, and Hakamiah
It is said that Jophiel's colour is yellow (though typically I have my own associations with colours and angels. This is just a fun fact). Though it can make sense with yellows association with illumination, the mind, the element of air and all associations to follow
Her symbol and element is fire which is for her light, illumination of knowledge and the flame that leads the way
Her day of the week is Sunday (shared with Michael).
Here's her sigil/seal you can use when working with her:
Here's a prayer you can say to her:
Dearest Archangel Jophiel, archangel of beauty and wisdom, please bless my creative endeavors.
Open my eyes that I may notice the beauty in the people around me as well in every part of Creation, including myself.
Empower me to maintain a clear mind even in times of chaos and make my mind orderly and serene. Inspire me to trust in God’s greater purpose for me and lend me the patience and the wisdom to recognize God’s beauty in every situation. — Amen

@saintlyfawn anything to add?
Hope you enjoyed this information and learnt something new! And thank you for the ask. Feel free to send more
Hey! How can we find out a deity's preferred way of communication?
Hey sunshine! ☀️
That's a great question and one that I don't think I can give a definite answer on. Honestly my first instinct was to say "just ask" but I don't think that's helpful.
I think trial and error is the best way to figure that out. I went through a similar thing when I started working with angels actually. It took me a while of feeling things out before I concluded that Gabriel preferred tarot reading above any other form of communication, and that only came from trying other ways and seeing that they don't work for either me or him. I asked him once why he doesn't just speak to me (clairaudience) and he simply replied that he doesn't like it, it's uncomfortable. On the other hand, when Azazel came around, I had wanted to get a new pendulum to communicate with him and he simply said, "No need" and he's very eager to speak to me through clairaudience.
Some entities and deities will be straight up about it and simply start communicating with you through their chosen method, but sometimes you have to figure it out and that comes from trial and error in my opinion. Play around with things and see what works best, no one's expecting it to be perfect right away. Also, the way individual entities choose to communicate with certain people often varies so don't think that because your experience with a deity is different than someone else's it's wrong, and don't feel pressured to do what others do if it doesn't work for you. Your relationships with your deities are unique, and that's why sometimes it takes a bit to find your feet.
Thanks so much for asking sunshine! Ask about this on other blogs if you'd like, others will probably have better advice on this subject than I will. Also please feel free to DM me if I've misunderstood the question in any way.
Khaire! ☀️
So if you've ever been on witchtok, I'm sure you've seen at least a few of the many videos of practitioners making dramatized skits of interactions that they've had with their deities and/or the entities they work with.
Many of these are funny and light-hearted or endearing and loving. We see ppl sharing jokes and laughs with Apollon and we get to hear all the nicknames that Archangel Uriel gave to 23 year old Zoe. It's cute and it's fun.
But there's always at least one person that stitches one of these skits, swearing up and down that this is disrespectful and that this never happened.
"The gods aren't ur fucking besties. Ur a human, they're a god. They're not gonna waste their time on stupid thing with you. No, Aphrodite did not help you pick ur outfit. No, Loki did not ask you to get him Mt Dew from the store. No, Hermes did not call you sweet strawberry. That's stupid and they have better things to do with their time. Ur relationship with the gods should be formal and professional. You should revere them with great fear. Ur an ant to them. You should feel honored that they even looked ur way. So stfu with all of this. Ur just experiencing spiritual psychosis".
Now I will not deny the fact that there are some entities that you can't have a casual relationship. There are entities out there that demand reference. Where they demand that you bow down and fear them. That you address them formally and mind ur P's and Q's and not even think of stepping even a hair out of line.
But there are also entities that are more than willing to have casual relationships with their devotees.
Maybe Aphrodite did help Sally pick her outfit today. Bc she's the goddess of beauty and she wants her devotee to feel pretty when she goes to get milk, eggs, and bread from the store today.
How would you know if she did or didn't help her devotee get dressed up? It's not ur place to say whether it happened or not. It's not ur place to place limits on the gods or to speak for them. It's not ur place to judge another persons relationship with their deity. And it's especially not ur place to decide who is and who isn't experiencing spiritual psychosis or not.
I call The Morrìgan my mother. There have been countless times where we've had playful banter. She tells me to go take a shower and I say, "bitch no, make me". Does she smite me bc I, a mere lowly mortal called her, a powerful goddess, bitch? No. She simply stares at me with that "you wanna test me?" mom look and I scurry on my way with a groan and a "fiiiiiiine" and then we laugh about it.
The idea that we must be formal with the gods no matter what and revere them to the point where we fear them is a toxic Christian mindset.
I grew up in a extremely Christian household most my life. I was taught to revere God and fear his almighty power. Bc I was a tiny human. I did not deserve to be in his presence. I was lucky to be loved by the king of all creation. I was luck to have the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings, see me as on of her own. I should be trembling at her power, bc she could smite me at anytime for anything.
This is a very common mindset within the Christian community, especially with more mainstream sects. So to see this in pagan and witchy circles can be a bit disheartening and even infuriating.
Many ppl leave Christianity and join paganism to get away from Christianity and to finally find freedom and joy. But if you left Christianity but then edited ur Christian views to be pagan. Then dear you never left Christianity. You simply repainted the walls.
And I get it. Decolonizing ur path can be very hard. It's a long road full of shadow work, tears, anger, and much more. And that can be scary. But don't say you moved houses when you only changed the decor within ur home.
I think I've said everything I want to say. So I'll finish this post by saying, don't judge other ppls relationships or journeys. Revering and fearing the gods may work for you and feel right to you, but that doesn't mean that everyone is gonna feel comfortable walking the same road that you do. So either be polite or kindly stfu.
I don't see a bunch of writing about angel work in general, and what I do find is often heavily Christianized! I wanted to talk about what angel work can look like from a Jewish perspective.
(Gentiles may interact and enjoy, but understand that this is for educational purposes and not an invitation to appropriate! 🤍)
Judaism views angels in ways other traditions may not share! Some examples:
Angels aren't former humans. They are their own distinct beings just like demons, cows, land spirits and butterflies. People who pass away, even children, are not considered "angels returning home." These angels have specific forms and looks depending on the type, some more humanoid than others.
Angels don't have free will. This does not mean they are held hostage or can't have their own personalities, but their will is an extension of HaShem's Will, serving a specific role in making that Will manifest. Kind of like employees in a corporation doing their tasks!
They don't have names. Or at least, they don't have names we're supposed to know or ask for. They may be incomprehensible to humans, or maintaining a level of anonymity as to not distract from HaShem. Either way, asking for a name is often discouraged in traditional texts.
They AREN'T all here to help you. While it all serves a Divine Will and is therefore Good in the grand scheme of things, many angels serve completely neutral functions from a human perspective. Some could even be considered harmful to humans, the most prominent example being HaSatan. (Even still, HaSatan isn't seen as a true villain. He's just doing his job.)
Some of them are ONLY here to help you! Historical Rabbis were big on the concept of guardian angels. The Talmud says "Every blade of grass has its Angel that bends over it and whispers, 'Grow, grow.'" (Midrash Rabba, Bereshit 10:6.) Every living creature, including you, has a guardian angel to help you along your path. Some translations say the angels hit the grass, and that's not the only story of angels smacking things, so that guidance isn't always gentle, but it's always in the right direction.
Spirit guides. Like mentioned above, guardian angels can help encourage you to "Grow! Grow!" and keep you on a path in line with spiritual health and lovingkindness.
Communing with HaShem. Gd is extremely esoteric. Angels help us send and recieve messages in an easier-to-conceptualize way! Meditation and prayer can also play into this. Beyond every-day applications, angels can also appear unexpectedly with important messages.
Communicating with other spirits. As angels are often messengers, I also think it's helpful to call upon their aid when working with other spirits!
Working with angels of various functions. Modern day Rabbis often marry angelic theology with scientific phenomena, with angels overseeing the process. By that extent, we could ask those angels for help/guidance when relevant!
Protection. Psalm 91, often recited for protection, depicts HaShem commanding angels on your behalf to guard you in all ways. One bedtime prayer names the four archangels to surround us.
Shalom Aleichem is traditionally sung on Friday nights before Shabbat dinner. It invites angels of peace to basically come and hang out with us during shabbat, then to leave in peace once shabbat is over. Many arrangements also make a good lullaby.
Metatron (מֶטָטְרוֹן) is a specifically-Jewish angel who gets appropriated a lot in spiritual circles. He does not appear in the Tanakh, but is mentioned in the Talmud and largely fleshed out in kabbalistic literature! (Islamic literature does mention him by different name, ميططرون, Mitatrun/Mitatrush. Solidarity.)Lots of people recognize Lilith as closed, but the same attention hasn't been given to Metatron. He's a very complex and ambiguous figure worth a whole post of his own so I won't get into it here!
This post is by no means comprehensive! This is just a very "quick" overview of a very rich field of study.

I think gods have more in common with us than we tend to give them credits for.
It's how, as often told in their myths, when they take human forms and walk amongst mortals on earth, they're able to blend in so easily.
𝑚𝑦 𝑗𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑦
when discovering the law of assumption i knew i had found the answers i’ve been searching for my whole entire life. i have always been sure that this life wasn’t random and that there is something we as humans are missing. i knew there was no way that things just happened because from an early age i caught on to coincidences and knew they meant more than just random pop ups.
so i discovered the law of assumption and started to watch loa youtube and would watch so many videos and after every video i would think “ah yes this is what i’m missing and what i need to do to get money,sp or appearance change” and this obviously was a vicious cycle for me. i got nothing well i did, i kept getting the same old story that i didn’t want
i got into loa tumblr and NOW i know the answers. this is nothing against any loa blogs because what you do works for you but everyone kept throwing around different methods, challenges for self concept and i felt that it was all so calculated and not natural at all… if applying the law as god is so natural and easy why am i doing all these different methods and challenges to change myself
all the success stories spreading around that they got what they wanted and while i understand that is showing in the physical world is what people want, that’s not the real reality and we know this so why base it around the physical not real world. i latched onto that and thought i wasn’t successful because clearly the success is based on the the 3d conforming!!!!
one day i decided to delete tumblr and focus on myself just because i started to have these epiphanies about being god, creation is finished, everything being one, the imagination being the only real reality. this would turn out to be the best decision for me. i mentioned in an ask i got that i woke up in the middle of the night crying and it all clicked, this was a couple days after deleting tumblr. i made the decision that “i am god, i get what i want because creation is finished, anything i desire is set in stone and a promise that no matter what i see around me i am already in my ideal reality with everything i want and more” and i sat with that for two days and all the sudden everything just started to happen around me in the physical world. i’m not kidding it was scary fast but the odd thing was is when it happened i wasn’t even surprised and it felt normal. even things i thought were “big” like money appearance change and a sp felt so normal and mundane
this is what led me to realize i didn’t want to physical thing itself i wanted the feeling of having it and having the realization that i am god and creation is finished just automatically made me live in the end of already having it with no doubts fears or worries. just relying on my inner world and experiencing it within which leads to the physical world being so unimportant and understanding it is always changing and extremely malleable like putty
so i got tumblr again, but now i have it all plus more and life is constantly getting better and better for me and so i decided to share what i thought and who i follow and what i read. i follow electrasoul on youtube and i understand how we feel about loa youtube. i do not follow everything she says at all actually, however i do like that her recent videos are more based on her experience. i also like her energy.
i like a lot of neville quotes and i know he is the forefront of this community because he paved the way and i respect and appreciate that however i don’t listen to his lectures or read his books ever. as god i can answer my own questions! so say i want to change my hair color, i wouldn’t go ask anyone how to do it, in my head a conversation with myself goes like this then “okay i really want blonde hair now… wait i already have blonde hair and i know i have blonde hair because i said i do and creation is finished so to answer my own question i do have beautiful blonde hair now” it all comes down to me deciding
i feel this is important for me to share because it is so easy and simple. i wish someone would have told me this but now i understand. all it is is knowing i am god, creation is finished and that anything i desire is a promise that shows up in my physical world in less than a day because look i make my rules and you make yours so just understand it is effortless and no action is needed at all just knowing and knowing/the end wills the means
The nature goddess Rhiannon, Queen of Faeries, dwells within the Faerie Realm, an alternate Prime Material plane consisting of endless magical forests. Her long hair appears yellow in spring, brown in summer, red in autumn, and white in winter. (Robert Klasnich, from “The Folk of the Faerie Kingdom” by Vince Garcia, Dragon 155, March 1990)
Friendly reminder that you are not obligated to worship the Gods as they were traditionally worshipped. Incorporating modern practices of ancient religions is just as valid. Remember that you can create a regime that caters to your schedule, health, and financial situation. They understand and appreciate the acknowledgment you are able to give.

Disclaimer: This is a more personal post and involves a bit of UPG.
I didn't start witchcraft by doing deity work, in fact, I just started actively working with deities in the last two years! Before that, the only experience I've had with a god was the Christian God, but even then I only interacted with him* in the way that I was taught to: You pray to him but he probably won't respond. I was even told when I asked why God doesn't answer me, "That's just not how God works"...
This is no slight towards Christian witches, as I know they interact with the Christian God differently than non-witchy Christians and I would never claim to know their relationships with him.
However, due to this upbringing, I didn't know how to interact with deities. I had to unlearn what I had been taught about interacting with a god.
One of the things I had to unlearn is that, unlike how I was taught growing up, many deities aren't always going to be there to talk to you, they're a lot more human-like than we think. They aren't like how the Christian God is said to be: always there, always watching. w
I got scared when the interactions with my deities started to wane/ I wasn't feeling them or hearing from them as often and I started to worry that they'd abandoned me. That's not true! As with any relationship, there are times when you can't always be with someone, it's totally normal to go days, weeks, and even months without hearing from your deities. That doesn't mean that you've been left behind!!
So if you're feeling disconnected from your deities here are some things to keep in mind:
Just because they aren't always around doesn't mean they aren't always there for you.
Call them when you need them if you don't feel like they're around at the moment. Gods are used to being called to by humans, it won't offend them.
They may not show up right away sometimes. They are feeling, thinking beings, they have their own will and generally act accordingly to said will.
Deities are allowed to step back. If they feel the need to take a break from your relationship, or simply not interact with you as much, then that's just fine!
It's not always a reflection of you, your character, or your craft. Sometimes they just want to take a break and that's perfectly fine!
Sometimes, the problem is that we are too busy and we put our relationships with our deities on the back burner. In this case, most of the time, in my experience, they understand and if they need to reach out to you they will find a way.
If you feel like you've been disconnected from your deities and would like to take some actions to reconnect, here are some ideas:
Read up on their mythology. Even if you've read it all before, give yourself a bit of a refresher!
Do some divination. I use tarot but you can use whichever form works best for you. Use tsk the deity what you can do to reconnect with them.
Talk to them. Even if you feel like they aren't around, just talk to them. Tell them how you feel, how your day went, and tell them you want to reconnect. You can also write to them.
Give them an offering. Since this post is focused on reconnecting with deities, you probably already know which offerings your patrons prefer. So give them an offering and let them know you're thinking of them!
Do something that makes you feel more connected to that deity. This could be going on a walk, making a certain food item, creating art, playing a movie, and so on. Just do something that makes you feel closer to them.
All in all, everyone's experiences with Deities and Deity work is going to be unique to the person, as with any relationship in life. Do what works best for you, this is just a post to help remind people that deity work isn't always having your life fully devoted to a deity. Most of us aren't able to put that much of our time or energy into deity work. If you can and want to, that's perfectly okay, too!
*I was raised using he/him pronouns for the Christian God as that was how he manifested in my life and upbringing. However, I am aware that there are folks who choose to use other pronouns for the Christian God and I'm not disregarding nor disrespecting that. Use whatever pronouns for your chosen deities as you want, Christian God or otherwise. <3
I think people demonize anger a lot within the pagan and polytheist communities. I've noticed so many people be terrified that they've angered or upset their gods, and while there is obviously an underlying reason for that fear (usually trauma or anxiety), it definitely isn't a necessary fear to have.
Gods get angry. They can feel rage that burns so hot it scorches the lands below them. They don't approve of everything we do because, you know what, sometimes our actions, as humans, are just unacceptable. Sometimes we fuck up and have to be reminded the our actions impact other people's emotional states, and that includes the gods.
But just because gods get angry, upset, or disappointed with us doesn't mean they're going to leave us or they'll hate us or this or that. It doesn't mean they don't recognize that we are flawed and make mistakes. It doesn't mean they won't forgive us of our actions.
Of course, I believe that gods are capable of hating people. I believe there are some humans that are so despicable, so vile, that the gods themselves shun and scorn their very existence, but I'd like to think (and this is just my opinion) that isn't very common and that the gods are more forgiving and understanding than people give them credit for. I think there is a lot of fear-mongering that the gods will punish or hurt us because we've made a mistake or something along those lines, but in reality, they are much more lenient and forgiving, although they'll still get angry, upset, or disappointed.
It's ok for a god to be upset with you. They're not going to boil your toes or turn your fingers into snakes or something. Like, it's ok to be a flawed human; that's what human existence is. The gods know that, but we can still piss them off sometimes. We can still disappoint or upset them. And it's ok for us to still be loved by them afterwards. Both truths can exist at once; they can be angry as all hell at you and still love you. They can be disappointed in something you've done and still want the best for you. They can be upset at your actions and still care deeply for you.
It's up to you how you react to their anger, their upset, and their disappointment. Either way, you'll come out of the situation ok. Conflicts are normal in every relationship, including deity relationships.
This can be applied to deities, entities, spirits, or just any other entity you work with. I like to call these contracts but they are more of just a general house-rule list that can help make you more comfortable in a spirit-working relationship or even to keep you safe. You need to feel safe and secure when working with any entity or spirit or it will not be a productive relationship and could do more harm than good. Most of these house rules can help with that.
Edit or adapt them as you will, these are just suggestions.
"no entity is allowed to follow me or watch me in the bathroom while showering, when naked, or when using the toilet" - this is a good boundary to have if you generally need your alone time lol
"No entity is allowed in my space without my and [trusted spirit/entity]'s express permission"
"no entity is allowed to trick me and send me tests that damage or interfere negatively with my mental, emotional, physical, psychological, or spiritual well-being"
"No entity is allowed to lie to me under any circumstances"
"No entity, spirit, or deity is allowed to touch me without my express permission"
"No bringing any friends into my space without my express permission"
"All entities who desire to enter my space must abide by my boundaries, rules, and this contract"
"All entities in my space must always uphold my highest good until my final breath"
"No entity is allowed to mess with my children, trick them, or interfere with them. If you are going to be around them, dull down your energy so to not startle my children"
"No entity, deity, or spirit is allowed to mess with or interfere with my pets or animals unless i give my express permission"
"No entity is allowed to mess with or interfere with my family without my express permission"
"No opening portals in my space under any circumstances"
I personally will take a pendulum or use clairaudience to ask my spirit guides, deities, etc if they agree to the terms and conditions of the house rules and then like, sign their name at the bottom of the paper i write it all down on. If a spirit or entity says "no", then it may just be one of the rules they don't agree with. Take a minute and ask them why they don't agree with it and then maybe edit it to be more agreeable to both you and the entity in question.

i'm most familiar with Greco-Roman deities so i'll use them for examples, but feel free to ask me about a specific deity! which Greco-Roman deity you should work according to your birth chart indications
say "good morning" / "good night" - this is not only out of respect but developing a habit to include them more and more in day to day life
talk to them - whether you're expressing gratitude, praying, asking for advice, or even just talking to them about your day, this will show you are thinking about them and looking up to them. if you feel uncomfortable or can't talk out loud, a journal works just as well
write to them - speaking or journaling, writing is an art form they will appreciate. make journal entries to them, write them a poem or a song. it doesn't have be a fancy, even just phrases here and there will make a huge difference
document your experiences - after spending time with them, write down how it went. keep track of what they seem to like, what they tell you, even small details that don't seem to stick out because when you go back and look, they might stick out then or you might notice patterns
share your food - giving your deity a small portion of your food each time you eat is a way to communicate your honor and respect to them, and also learn what foods/drinks they enjoy
divination - this is more than just tarot cards! there's other forms of cartomancy, there's dowsing, numerology, etc. i personally use astrology <3
connect with their energy - doing activities that appeal to your deity regularly with strengthen your connection with them. for example, my deities are Diana/Artemis and Luna/Selene, so I spend a lot of time in nature, especially at night under the moonlight
research them in great detail - to get to know your deity, learn everything there is to know: names and epithets, symbols, attributes (plants trees, stones, animals, planets, week days, etc.) domains, family, popular stories and myths
cook a full meal - you can decide on a meal that is associated with them (like steak for Mars/Ares) but you don't have to, either way just dedicating time and energy to make an entire meal just for them will say a lot
altar - this is probably what you will hear the most, but don't feel heavy pressure. it doesn't have to be huge, fancy, or expensive; you can start out with literally just a candle and some leaves. slowly over time decorate and personalize it to your and your deity's liking
offerings - this is more than just sharing your food with them, it's actually giving something solely to them. have you ever been in the mood for a certain food even though you weren't hungry at all? that might be them hinting that they want it. gifts that you think they'd like or you felt called to get, including crafts you made yourself
share your worship - i want to say this is 100% not a necessity, so don't feel stressed if there is no one you can talk to about your deity work. i have no one to talk to about it, but i share freely on this blog and am trying to make friends online who i can share with! not only is sharing a way to show respect and love for them, but others can give you ideas of devotion and connection
going digital is a great way to worship and connect with your deity, especially if you cannot be open about it
make a playlist - include songs that remind you of them or that you'd think they'd like that involve their domains or stories/myths
art - literally any form of art they will appreciate. music like singing or songwriting, drawing, painting, sculpture, literature like reading books they'd like or writing stories, poems, songs, etc., dancing, theater or acting, or literally anything else. you can get specific, like learning an instrument for Apollo
exploring - exploring areas you think they'd like or just new areas in general. you might find points of interest they'd enjoy (like crossroads for Hecate), or see/hear their sacred animals, or find things that coincide with their stories/attributes/symbols
spending time with them through hobbies - the best way i can describe this is through examples: going to parties/celebrating for Bacchus/Dionysus, cleaning and taking care of your home for Vesta/Hestia, gardening for Ceres/Demeter or Proserpina/Persephone, taking care of the ocean for Neptune/Poseidon, the list goes on and on. anything that involves their domain
pinterest board - kinda self explanatory, making a pinterest board (or a physical picture board/wall if you prefer) with images of your deity and their symbols/attributes. here's mine
phone background - setting your phone background as an image or your deity is not only a sign of honor and respect, but will help you develop the habit of thinking of them regularly. can also spark conversation with others without being direct about your worship!
Just pick a god, make an offering, and start praying. It's not that big a deal.
The people of ancient times who worshipped these gods from cradle to grave didn't wait around for them to reach out first, that's for historically sure.
Gods and goddesses are extremely ancient beings of immense power and wisdom. There are some who have been alive since the beginning of the universe, long before humans or any other mortal beings were brought into existence (the most ancient one being Lucifer). And others were created later on, either by the Greater Deities outside this universe, or from being born as children of deities in this universe. When the mortal races began being created, there were gods who began forming pantheons to watch over them and be in charge of their progress.
The children of these pantheon gods often remained in the pantheon as well; however, most deities don’t limit themselves to just one pantheon, as they often go to multiple other lands (or sometimes other planets) to help different people, or approach certain individuals who they see worth in. They weren’t always included in the other pantheons because of this, since these deities weren’t staying permanently and would approach other cultures and individuals as they saw fit. Also, there are many deities who aren’t known to any culture, since they choose not to have any divine duties and simply want to enjoy existence in peace, or to focus solely on their own evolution.
All deities tend to be serious to some degree, but some are more approachable than others since they can be a bit more laid-back. But it is important to remember that gods are not like humans; yes they have passions, get married, and enjoy life, but they do not have a human mentality. They have all experienced thousands of years, millions of years, or even more (for the very ancient gods). They also have a much higher perspective than we do, and are extremely mature as beings with immense insight. So they will not agree with everything that humans think is moral, and they also don’t tend to act how people expect them to, since they are very deep and advanced beings and they don’t have human behaviours; they’re separate beings entirely to us.
The gods are also not always going to be nice towards you, since many will be serious or some may even be harsh; these things depend on the deity’s personality and also their method of teaching. But overall, the gods are just and operate based on their own wisdom (unless the deity is malevolent, which a few known ones are, such as Apep). Besides that, plenty of deities have even killed humans who angered them greatly, often those humans who desecrated their temples or harmed humans they cared for. So they are not usually as peace-loving and forgiving as some may think.
Who to Work With
Which deity you work with is largely up to you. The majority of deities welcome any human who is respectful and spiritually open, and are often happy to help you learn and develop through lessons of wisdom. So if there is a deity you feel a strong pull towards, it’s likely that you either worshipped them in a past life, and/or you are destined to worship them in this life in order to learn significant things about yourself and your life mission. In these cases, you are encouraged to reach out to that god and speak with them. The deities are always pleased to listen to serious spiritual questions from you, and to help guide you with things that are important in your life. If you aren’t certain if the deity wants to help you with something, you only need to ask them through tarot, which is the best way if you don’t have accurate enough astral hearing.
Different Levels of Worship
You can worship as many deities as you like, but the level of worship depends on how devoted you wish to be. The most basic level of worship is general reverence towards a god or goddess, showing your love, gratitude, and deep respect for them. This can be done by speaking to the deity on occasion, whenever you feel the need, and to offer them praise and an offering. This can be done for many deities who you feel the desire to honour, but not to be very close to.
The next level is when you wish to be deeply devoted to a god or goddess. This means that you will request the deity of your choosing if they can watch over you closely and help guide you on multiple areas of your life, or on something specific that is important to you. This deity will act as your mentor in a way, and will expect you to speak with them often (not every day, but not to go months without speaking). You also don’t have to give them offerings every day or week even; usually, offerings should be given when you feel the desire to show your love, and when the deity does something to help you.
A deity will never force you or command you to worship them, and they also will not abuse or cause harm to you (unless the deity is malevolent- but the vast majority of gods in the pantheons aren’t malevolent). However, if you do something to anger the deity, either by showing unwanted lust towards them, calling them nicknames, or speaking about them in a disrespectful manner, the gods are more than likely to punish you in some way, depending on what they believe deserves to be done. Often, this punishment may take the form of a curse, which is very powerful and cannot be removed like a human-made curse.
But it should also be noted that there are many deities who will put you through a period of hardship in order to help you evolve. This is typically done with people who are more spiritual and aren’t casually worshipping the deities. Yet these challenges aren’t as severe as the challenges demons give to their worshippers, since the Left Hand Path is harsher than both the Middle Path and Middle-Left Path, which the majority of deities follow. Since these pantheon gods typically follow either the Middle or Middle-Left Path, they strongly value wisdom, self-mastery, balance, connection to the Earth, and strength of heart. So you may be tested in these things to help you grow and become better as a person, and to also overcome your weaknesses. Yet they (and demons) will not put you through anything that will damage your life, your mental health, physical health, or anything you aren’t truly ready for. They all can see into us and know what we can and cannot currently handle; so if something bad like the above happens while worshipping a god or demon, please don’t assume it’s them and instead ask them what is happening. The likely answer is that other things are at work, possibly negative energy from the world, your human rivals, a curse from a witch, or simply just difficult circumstances in life, which happen to everyone.
Though keep in mind that there are some gods who are actually malevolent and enjoying harming humans as their role, some examples include Apep and Eris (goddess of enmity and discord).
Patrons
Every person is guided by at least 4 or 5 deities during their lives- these gods and goddesses are ones who watch over the person and help them learn things that will contribute to their life mission. Usually, these deities don’t make themselves known to the people they watch over, especially since the majority of humans aren’t very spiritual. Sometimes, one of these gods may even leave the person at some point if the person completes a certain lesson that the deity was teaching them. So with their role completed, the deity will move on.
How to Work with Deities
When working with deities, it is very important to remember to be respectful and to know your place with them- don’t view them as your buddy to make jokes with or to think you are equal with them. They are gods, and they will always be far more advanced than any human. Deities also tend to become irritated when humans place labels on them or view them as if they are characters in stories; they don’t view these things the way you do and see this as very disrespectful. They expect their followers to take them seriously and not view spirituality as a game, so be aware of this higher perspective and don’t bring the gods down to your level, because none of them will appreciate this and they may become distant. You don’t have to be overly polite however, but make sure to have manners and listen to them when they give you advice. Chances are that the god knows you far better than you know yourself; so when they have advice to give, pay attention to it and don’t take it for granted.
If you would like to request a deity to come to your home so you can speak with them in-person, this can be done. Remember though that the gods have their own lives and are often busy with divine tasks or personal matters, so if they don’t arrive right away or at all, don’t assume that they are ignoring you because they likely aren’t. Thankfully, gods are able to be in multiple places at once (to a certain degree), so this makes it even more likely for them to have the opportunity to visit followers who request their presence.
When the deity does arrive to you, it is polite to bow your head to them as a show of respect. The gods are all very tall but will shrink themselves a bit when inside your home (they tend to be almost ceiling-height). Make sure to make wise use of this time, since you have the honour of having a god visit you. You can ask them questions or use this time to understand them better; they don’t usually get impatient and are often glad to answer spiritual things or to give advice. When you are done speaking with the deity, it is good to let them know and they will depart.
Astral senses
Astral senses, such as astral sight and astral hearing, are both essential to strive for if someone wishes to be deeply spiritual. This is mostly because the best way to try and understand a deity is to speak with them; no book on mythology could ever show you the essence of a deity and how they truly are. But keep in mind that astral sight often takes around a year or more of constant practice to become very clear; so if you are devoted enough and wish to strive for this, the deities will acknowledge this. But astral hearing is much more difficult to be mastered, since it requires more years of practice while also learning how to tune-out your own identity and desires at will, to allow yourself to become void inside, becoming a vessel for the spiritual voices (this is not recommended to do if you have psychosis). If this skill is not developed properly, what one will usually believe to be a deity or spirit speaking to them often ends up being their own mind (voices that are mental projections), based on their preconceived ideas of how that deity/spirit behaves. This is why one must silence their self completely, and have no ideas of their own during astral hearing, which takes a lot of self-mastery, as well as years to be perfected.
But while the astral senses allow for a very deep connection to the gods, and is a very worthwhile goal to strive for, it is not the only way to communicate if you don’t have these skills yet. The other way one can speak with a deity or spirit (to a lesser degree) is through tarot cards, although it is best to develop an accurate skill in this practice beforehand. With tarot cards, you can mainly only receive advice from the deity or insight about yourself, as any other topic is too complex to receive answers from by cards, especially if you wish to ask what the deity is like. I would however strongly recommend people not to use pendulums for spirit communication since they are heavily unreliable. This is because pendulums are very sensitive to energies and can move over the simplest thing, even your own desire for where it should move. So because of this, it is unwise to use this object to speak with gods or any spirits, since it will more often than not tell you nonsense or things that you want it to tell you.
Also, don’t feel bad if you cannot hear or see the deities; they won’t get mad or impatient with you for this. The vast majority of people in the ancient times couldn’t do these things, since they weren’t devoted to a spiritual life (that’s what the priests/priestesses, oracles, or shamans were for). So if the best you can do is pray to them and allow their guidance to take form in your life, that is perfectly fine.
Imposter Spirits
On the topic of communicating with deities and spirits, there is a category of spirit that is not only highly malevolent, but they are often prone towards pretending to be someone they aren’t. These malicious entities are called tar spirits, which are beings made out of corrupt energy that looks like tar (these usually are spawned from the body of Apep). Tar spirits are in their millions and are constantly darting through Earth or going through cities to attack people, causing either minor problems or more serious issues (such as tempting people to commit suicide, causing mental disturbances, physical pains, or attempting possession).
But one of the most common things they do is pretend to be a deity or spirit that someone trusts; they often do this in order to use that form to try and seduce their human target, which will cause them to bring more tar spirits through causing a pregnancy in their astral body. Or, they may seduce that human and have sex with them often, which will cause that person to begin developing physical pains, illnesses, or mental issues.
Take note that it is rare for a god or spirit to be attracted to humans, especially in the modern times where people are even more incompatible with their personalities. It is also because many gods already have relationships with other deities, and so they may have no interest in such things for this reason. Another effect is that if the person begins to view deities sexually through these experiences, it will badly affect their spirituality and make it more shallow, as well as making it so that they don’t truly take the gods seriously anymore. So for all these reasons, make sure to be cunning and wise, and remember the warning signs of having an imposter spirit with you. Also, it is safer to speak to deities by directing your words through your mind to them (like telepathy), since the tar spirits won’t hear you this way.
Study the Mythology, but not as if it’s 100% true
This is another very common mistake that has occurred in new age spirituality, possibly because many people are used to religions like Christianity, where the “holy” books are claimed to be true and unquestionable. But for the ancient civilizations, they didn’t do this. Their mythology was often either three things: a true account (which may or may not have been embellished over-time by other story-tellers), a teaching story using the gods and allegories to bring lessons of wisdom and morality, or a story of the gods written for entertainment purposes only (like for theatre)- these were not always respectful to the deities however, which would sometimes anger the gods. But even for the myths based on true accounts, be aware that the spiritual humans who witnessed these events usually did not fully understand what was taking place, as the events of the divine are greatly complex. So these were myths written by the perspectives of the humans who knew of them, and over time, may have been embellished even further.
The only way to truly know what is real and what isn’t is if you master your astral abilities, but since this is uncommon and takes years, it is best to read the myths with a pinch of salt. You can also ask some gods if a certain myth is true or not, and you can draw tarot cards to ask them how they feel about it. This may not be the best way to get answers, but it can help a little, especially if they feel strongly for or against the story.
For example, Athena doesn’t like the myth where it’s said she cursed a woman to become a spider- she explains this was simply a metaphor for the spider goddess. And she also explains that Medusa was never a victim, since that was a poem written by a Roman (Ovid), whereas the original Greek myth told the truth- that Medusa was born monstrous and was always malicious. That is why the Greek warriors had Medusa’s severed head on their shields, since bearing her head was a sign of achievement over evil (which is also why Athena is adorned with this symbol).
Ways to Bond with Deities
There are many things you can do to bond with the deities. You can create art for them, sing for them, write devotional poetry, speak with them, etc. Many gods value their followers’ acts of love and care, since they care for many of us.
The gods all have been through great pain and hardship over their long existences, and many of them mourn over their lost civilizations which were raped and destroyed by the Abrahamic invaders, eventually causing the descendants of their own people to turn against them. Even now, people everywhere are continuing to break the temples that are already in ruins, or smashing ancient sculptures. So when a human anywhere in the world calls upon a deity out of respect, that deity will often see that human as worthy to be approached. They wish to help us end the dark ages of spirituality and to see reality as it actually is- not by making jokes about the gods or seeing things in simplistic ways, but to truly experience the spiritual and to see the grand complexities of existence.
Offerings
When giving offerings to the gods, it should usually be something that they connect with energetically, but they also tend to accept things that you give purely out of love. But for incense, it must be a scent they connect with energetically, otherwise it will be unsuitable (for instance, one should never offer a soft scent to Ares, like something floral). Incense should also be bought at a good quality and not something cheaply made. Offerings are meant to be sacrifices, wherein you sacrifice your own time or money to obtain something the deity would like, and you then devote it to them. Offerings can also be artwork you make for them or poetry you write for them, or even to create a digital altar for them (although it is best to have a physical altar if possible).
When you have given an offering to a deity, you should place it on their altar or on a clean surface if no altar is available. Make sure to announce to the deity that the offering is for them, bow your head, and then you can leave. If the offering is food or drink, you may leave it there for around a day, but do not partake of them. After the day, you can take the food and/or drink and respectfully discard it down the sink or into the trash. If the food was something solid (like chocolate), you can wrap it into a napkin while stating that you are discarding it into the trash as there is no other way. Make sure that you do not leave food or drink offerings out for a long time (like a week or more), as it has lost its essence, since the gods partook from it. Without its essence, the food/drink is energetically hollow and will begin to create a dip in the room if left for a long time. If the offering is something like an object, then you should leave it there at the altar or wherever you have a spot designated for that deity. This object cannot be used for yourself from then on, as it is a sacrifice. Also, if you offer a crystal to a deity, then that crystal can only be used to connect with them from then on.
All these efforts help you to be seen as respectable by the gods, and they will likely become more open towards you and doing more to guide you. It is also a way to train yourself spiritually, to see the beauty of sacrifice and to give something up for something greater.
Two things I've learned:
Yes, deities and spirits can sense our emotions. No, they can't read our private thoughts.
Yes, deities and spirits know what we do in private (shit, jerk off, cry, pick our noses, etc). No, they don't mind, or frankly pay that much attention to these behaviors because they're about as remarkable as eating or sleeping.
You can casually work with deities.
You don't have to devote yourself to one (or a few) deities, or any at all.
You can ask for help from a deity that fits the bill for what you need help with.
That's how plenty of pagans in the past did it.
You go to doctors who specialize in different things based on what you need. Need help with your nose? Go to and ENT. Need help with your lungs? Go to a Pulmonologist.
Need help with love? Go to Aphrodite. Need help with developing a new skill? Go to Lugh. Need some wisdom? Go to Frigg.
and the list goes on. Even if you already devote yourself or work with specifically one or a few deities, you can still ask deities for help if you need their specific area of expertise.
Once again reminding everyone to start their research into the Greek and Roman gods with theoi.com. I cannot convey to you how helpful the translations and (most importantly) vettings are. Yes, yes, Ovid is on there, but it tells you about who said what, what they said, and the time period it was made. From there, you can continue your research and learn more!
As a rule of thumb, deities will never do the following:
Dictate who you can/can't be friends with
Dictate which deities you're allowed/not allowed to venerate
Dictate who you can/can't be romantically involved with
Dictate your course in life
Threaten to leave if you can't/don't fulfill their requests
Ask you to stop taking your medications
Require you to observe a daily practice
Require you to spend tons of money on their behalf
Rush you into an oath, marriage, or some other binding contract
Prohibit you from doing certain activities
Withhold their affections if you do something they don't like
Shame you
Court minors (not in this day and age. Deities answer to the sensibilities of our time and society.)
If you see a deity act in any of these ways, you might be dealing with an impostor spirit or a mental sock-puppet, rather than the actual deity.
Impostors are petty spirits who disguise themselves as deities to mooch off undeserved worship.
Mental sock puppets are personal thoughts and insecurities projected onto an imaginary being.
And in instances where a deity is doing something you don't think is appropriate, you're always free to set boundaries. Gods don't get to act with impunity simply because they're gods.
the gods show you the version of themselves that you need most, your experiences won't be identical to other worshippers/devotees out there because you are different from others and that's okay. that just adds to how beautiful the connection to the theoi really is.
