Read Superman/Shazam: First Thunder and genuinely cried over it and had the most gut wrenching thought...
Clark's knows exactly how it feels for the world to have their eyes on him always. He knows what it's like for the world to fear him as Superman, and as much as they've come to trust him, the instant Superman acts out or 'has a bad day', he knows he will become the villian. The big scary alien guy with impossible powers who could destroy the world. Even one little outburst, one tiny flicker of anything other than hope and joy, and the trust he's worked so hard to build will crumble.
Billy is young. He's new. He doesn't know this. He acts out in frustration and anger and sarrow, and he doesn't know how to cope with these impossible standards. He's just a little boy who wants to cry and throw things, but Captain Marvel throwing a tantrum could destroy a city. He probably feels like a caged animal, unable to let out any of those feelings, lashing out and running away. He doesn't have the same self-control as Clark and is almost self-destructive in a sense.
Of course, Clark immediately feels strongly about Billy just being a kid. Clark was once a little boy with powers he couldn't fully control and knew exactly how it felt to be teetering on the edge of "everyone hates me, I'm a monster," mindsets. He probably feels so much kinship and understanding, and he gets defensive over it. Clark was so ready to throw hands with the wizard for Billy, then immediately went to Billy to comfort him and be like, "we're both just people. We're the same. You aren't alone."
Sobbing very hard </3.
One day a man goes missing in Gotham. Nobody special, just another unlucky lowlife schmuck who owed money to the wrong people. The kind of guy with nobody in the world to miss him. Bruce and Babs are sharing notes when Cassandra wanders in. When she notices a picture of the guy's face her eyes harden in a way they're very unused to and she insists they put her on the case. She very pointedly asks for his name before pulling down her mask and leaping out the window.
They don't see her again for the next several days. She tears through the city's criminal underbelly with an unmatched ferocity. She's always driven but this concerns even Bruce. If experience has taught them anything though, it's that there's no talking to her when she's like this so they can do nothing but wait and hope.
Eventually she puts enough pressure on that somebody gives her a location. Not an hour later she's untying the man from a chair in a dank cellar in a dive bar on the outskirts of the city. He's not exactly on the right side of law so when he pulls the blindfold from over his eyes and sees a Bat standing right in front of him, especially this bat, he yelps and recoils in fear. Then she hugs him. She hugs him tight and holds on long enough that he forgets his fear and instead starts to feel distinctly awkward. Then just as quickly she vanishes, leaving him alone and too stunned for words.
He doesn't remember, but then, she never expected him to. It was years ago after all. A cold night, even for winter in Gotham when a petty crook decided the girl huddled on a street corner with no home to go back to looked like she needed that hot cup of cocoa more than he did. She remembered though.
The Cain Instinct
Okay we’ve all heard the “Batman adopts Billy” thing. Which, yeah, it’s fun cause of BATson and Billy being an orphan with black hair and blue eyes, but hear me out…
Billy somehow ends up in Gotham’s streets (magic shenanigans) and since he’s so obviously a street kid and he doesn’t have any records (cause of the time bubble, Fawcett is still just getting out of the 50s and into the modern world, so the files are a bit messy) so he’s snatched up by CPS
Billy gets fostered by Bruce, but as soon as they leave that kid alone, he’s climbing out a window and they never see him again (Magic and also people are hard to track in Fawcett)
So come Captain Marvel (Shazam) identity reveal, Batman’s blue screening cause THATS the kid that left the worlds greatest detective dumbfounded?
I think this perfectly shows what two thirds of Billy Batson-centric fanfics are

I love when someone posts something particularly heartbreaking related to Cass's childhood and the tags unite to manifest large amounts of violence and misery on David Cain. Beat that old man with a baseball bat it's what he deserves.
I love the recent wave of Hallucisteph shit posts because most fanon jokes are funny but give you an erroneous idea of canon personality/relationships but no. Cassandra Cain literally does that, and it's as gay and ridiculous as the shit posts make it out to be. If anything, you're not getting the full experience.
Through gaps in my bounds, for what's forbidden tastes so divine an itch creeps on my fingers. Scratching through the prickliness, the crimson liquid seeping through the wounds, I continue to feed into the itchiness, dried flakes of my skin spreading through the air like dust. Here is by my divine punishment for eating my forbidden fruits.
She/HerAutistic, queer, and (according to all the unfinished fics in my docs) an aspiring fanfic author!
