Being a girl is: wanting to go to bed early but deciding to just get on tumblr/wattpad/Ao3 for a little bit and then end up finding a fic series that you really like and read until well past your usual bedtime then keeping on because it’s already past your bedtime. Then being mad when you wake up in the morning because you overslept your timer.
Who feels more morally grey to you or a worse person: Snape or Sirius?
I don’t think there’s such a thing as being more or less grey. A character is either grey or they’re not, because when a character is established as grey, it’s done in accordance with their context and their morally conflicting actions, which can be very diverse. The narrative doesn’t treat Sirius as a grey character, but rather as a good character who has made mistakes, which is very different from Severus, who is treated as a highly ambiguous and questionable character.
The fact that we’re rational enough to see that, despite Rowling’s efforts to whitewash him, Sirius was far from being a good person because he was a bit of a jerk is another matter. The point is that their contradictions and dissonances are very different. Sirius has grey aspects because, despite his good intentions and his positive portrayal, he has a very violent attitude, has actively been a bully out of sheer boredom, has been a mediocre friend to everyone except James, preaches a set of ideals that he doesn’t practice, and holds prejudices strongly rooted in his social class. He’s a hypocrite, honestly.
Severus is a grey character because he has a terrible personality and a shady past, but despite that, he always chooses to serve a good cause even if he doesn’t want or receive recognition for it, all while having a rather difficult and complicated attitude to understand. Each of them is grey in their own way. Neither of them was genuinely a bad person deep down, but neither were they good, and each for different reasons.
i have an entire relationship dynamic for them in my head (reluctant travel companions united by homelessness and hatred for the tennysons and torn apart by heather constantly betraying kevin and stealing his blood in his sleep for spells, always reuniting out of neccesity)
> random bakugo rant
ive seen a lot of hate regarding bakugo's character development, and though i understand most people's viewpoint, we have to remember that bakugo was inheritly a kid that was taught high expectations from early on, he was praised since young, taught that his worth came from his abilities. either he was the best, or he was nothing. he had a mentality where you were all or none. he never had any room for failure admist all that, so he couldn't grow to accept the fact that izuku was better. and by disregarding bakugo's development as much haters do, you're disregarding izukus strength. the whole fandom sees izuku as weak, which is inheritly wrong. izuku was strong, not because he had OFA, not because he had All Might beside him, but because he kept going no matter what was in front of him. and Bakugou loathed that, because all he saw was strength. and he couldn't bear the fact that Izuku held his head up high regardless of how physically weak he was. it didnt make sense to him, so he tried to wear Izuku's strength down, by bullying him, by lowering his worth. and it still didn't work. because izuku would always be stronger, and you know what the strongest thing izuku did was? it was forgiving Bakugou. the reason why Bakugou could never be as strong as izuku was because he was scared of being weak. but izuku was weak, yet he still kept going. and because of that, Bakugo thought he was looking down on him. Bakugous journey is accepting that, its trying to change all he was taught his entire childhood. and its not easy to do that, when you've had your ego held up high your entire life, when your mindset was shifted to only being of worth. all he was is a scared 15year old, growing into someone that can come to understand their flaws and make amends for it.
power fantasy
(thinking a lot about bens relationship with his human body. i like uaf trying to assert that ben was still strong and capable w out the watch, but i think it loses an aspect of his character that was always important, that being ben finding himself inadequate and weak in his human form and overusing the watch to escape it. i think thats why the feedback arc hit so hard, bens hatred of himself and his past over something that was never his fault, all stemming from his hatred of his human body. i personally interpret the feedback arc as less of a drug addiction metaphor [which if it is was pretty shittily written] and more of becoming consumed by what youre not. that theme with ben is most of the reason i relate to him and project on to him as a fellow transexual)
viktor arcane has to be one of the characters ever.
he's gay. he's terminally ill. he's suicidal. he's from league of legends. he's in a toxic relationship with an orb. he also might be the orb(???). he bullshitted his way into the academy by pretending he went there. he rizzed up a guy so he wouldn't kill himself. he then tried to impress said guy by breaking into his boss's lab. then when he got caught he tried to play it off by saying he thought this big intimidating door was his bedroom door and he was just trying to sneak a guy in there. he nearly died because hetero sex was happening like a mile away. kinda. he took illegal drugs. he's also the apprentice of the guy who's making the illegal drugs and never mentions it. he's inspired off of the tale of frankenstein's monster. he got shot by a missle and fucking died. when he came back to life he immediately broke up his messy gay situationship and became jesus fucking christ.
truly one of the characters of all time
miracle worker
(Gwen's undying love for Ben is one of the most interesting parts of her character, because the way she goes about protecting him amplifies her savior complex more than anything. Ben comes first, doesn't matter if it's innocent aliens or her own family. They've been through so much together that she would rather the world burn than let it take Ben from her. i dont like the way gwen's written post 2006 series, but her massive savior complex is my favorite addition)
“jkr compared voldemort to hitler, so snape is literally a nazi” jkr also compared trans activists to death eaters, so what?
guys, you need to understand that comparisons are subjective and not literal. i can compare voldemort to my uncle, does that mean he is LITERALLY my uncle? no.
I love the idea of Snape being the most amazing baker ever because of his potion skills.
He makes Lily a cake nearly every year when they are at Hogwarts because he can’t afford to get her anything else, she doesn’t mind and looks forward to the cake every year. Sometimes if she’s really upset he will make her cupcakes and wish her a ‘happy quarter till your birthday’ to make her laugh
Xenophilius asks Snape help to raise money to save Dragons from being used as training devices. Severus just sighs but shows up to the event with just an obscene amount of fucking cookies. They all sell out, he lied and said Xeno made them because he knew if he said he did people would think they were poisoned, but it wasn’t until the next day that Xeno hears this and corrects someone who complimented his baking skills. Minor freak out, but people ask Severus to bake for them too once in a white for money, especially younger year students who miss their mothers treats.
Snape on multiple occasions have left a wolfsbane potion/Healing potion, and protein based cookies shaped in dog bones near his hospital bed or desk. Remus in retaliation brags about how Snape makes him cookies every month.
Rainy day
Katara is so REAL for this :D
