When writing this, I did not consider that the Odyssey takes 10 years. For most of the story Odysseus has a toddler and a first grader.

Plotwise everything stays the same, Odysseus just has a baby permanently strapped to his chest for the entirety of the story.

when in just a man in epic odysseus like hesitates and cradles astyanax he was most likely thinking of telemachus because odysseus hasn't seen him since he was a baby LIKE THE WAY THE FATHER AND SON PAIRS PARALE EACH OTHER like odysseus doesn't get to see his son grow up any older then before he left but then gets to see his son as an adult while Hector gets to cherish and watch his son age but doesn't get to see him being an adult and Hector and his son reunite in death while odysseus and his son reunite in life

I have a hc that Ody makes wooden toys for his children, but unconsciously he makes toys that show his most traumatic moment in relation to children. Of course they are still toys but deep down it is something that can be related to some situation if he thinks about it.
like, Telemachus would get a wooden horse and a 108 army of men. Astyanax would get some kind of lego/wooden castle, a woman and a baby. The twins he had with Calypso would get boats, etc.
If they really are children in this au/hc they might not even notice and just play as if they were slowly gaining a mini kingdom.
