Carroll Spinney, above, is the puppeteer who plays Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street. He did a reddit today, and his first answer is a tear jerker.
Red Loftwing! Loftwings are based off Shoebills, a dinosaur looking bird
How can I watch Chainsaw man properly when I can't look into Makima's eyes without thinking of Big bird

so i was trying to find a picture of a bird that is big so i searched “big bird” but forgot he was a character
so i went back and typed in “a large bird” and THIS MOTHERFUCKER IS STILL HERE LOOKIN SAD LIKE I DIDN’T WANT HIM
I adored it omg. I’m such a huge fan of the muppets and the other creations of Jim Henson and look up to him so much as a creator. It’s amazing to know that there were/are other people out there who feel like their time is going by just too quickly to be able to create everything they want to. No matter how much time I get, the things I create with that time, no matter if they change the world or not, are worth it.
That said, here’s the sketchbook page I filled while watching the documentary!
I wrote down some of my favorite quotes, but I know my handwriting isn’t always legible.
“The fact that he did Sesame Street instead of a series of nightclubs”
“Gretl is back from the moon!”
“Train of thought editing.”
“I’ve learned to walk around in my own head. That may sound silly to you but it’s been very, very helpful to me.”
“He wasn’t scared of dying… he believed there was something else there.”
“He wasn’t a musician but he thought like one.”
All that aside, thoughts on the funky puppet guy who takes up the bottom half of the page? Hair or no hair?
My childhood
I've noticed that at least two very (well, one moreso than the other) morally questionable characters in prominent shoujo manga have the surname "Ohtori", or "Ootori", whatever your preferred spelling is
now, their surname is spelled as 鳳, which is the word used for Feng, one half of Fenghuang, the Chinese phoenix; however, you could also read it as just "big bird"
so clearly, when discussing people in shoujo manga with very (very) questionable morals, we must not forget the biggest one of them all:
There’s a quote from Bert where he says he‘s “known big bird since he was a little bird” and the thought of it makes my heart cry so here’s that
Every freaking time!
I know it's coming and I'm never ready!
I'm literally crying for a man who died a decade before I was born!
I'm looking at you "street gang" (HBO Max documentary). Dude I cried so hard when they showed the interview of Jim saying that he and Frank Oz will be doing Bert and Ernie in their 80's. Do you know how NOT ok that is.
And I also cried when they showed Jerry Nelson and Richard Hunt doing the two-headed monster. Those two do not get enough love and acknowledgement! (I could be wrong, but I don't think either of them were mentioned by name in the Documentary! But they were definitely featured multiple times throughout.) (Though I do understand that if they did acknowledge every puppeteer/actor/crew the Documentary would be super long. But I'd still watch the whole thing!!)
When I watched the Big Bird Documentary (YouTube), that was the only time I was Blindsided by Jim's death. The way the Documentary was edited made it come out of no where. Which made it hurt so much more. I also cried while watching this because it was filmed while Carol Spinney was alive, but I watched it in 2020, about a year after he passed away.
Ok. Rant over. Thank you for reading!
I’m working on my SixFanarts...slowly! But here’s a sneak peek at my first finished one. It’s Big Bird, suggested by @housegreyjoy who I love
