Loud shouts and chatter sounded as you wiped down a table ready for the next people who walked through the door to use. Things in Castle Town seemed to have been busier than usual judging by the number of soldiers and travellers in the bar. You could faintly make out some words but chose to ignore what was being said as you walked towards the front of the bar, wiping your hands on the towel at your hip. "H-Hey we *hic*~"
Rolling your eyes, you saw the soldier who shouted to you slump down onto the table in front of him, out cold, his group beside him poking and making fun of him for being a lightweight. You felt sorry for everyone in the bar in some way, they had fought in so many battles and they had so many upcoming ones that they just needed a bit of normality. Even if their normality was getting drunk and passing out. Scanning in the corner, you saw the slightly bent-over figure of the person you needed. Lifting your hands, you placed them on either side of your mouth, helping your voice carry over the ruckus. "Telma! We've got another one here!".
Upon hearing their name, the figure stood upright and looked over, a smirk tugging at their lips as they placed a hand on their hip. "Is that so, (y/n)? Well then, I better make sure they're on their way".
A wink accompanied their words as you laughed out, whispering "thank you" to the woman as she passed. You hadn't been in Hyrule for long and you had somehow managed to find somewhere in the bustling Castle Town. The view of Hyrule Castle right outside of your window was one that still took your breath away, even if you saw it daily. You tried hard to get a job, something to help you live but every place you tried was either not looking or didn't want a young woman working for them. The first time you heard their words you almost cursed the goddesses for being a woman but decided to smile and walk away, mentally cursing the small-minded people instead. You'd given up hope when you found yourself in the southernmost alley of the town. You just happened to notice the door and it piqued your interest, deciding to try your luck, you walked in and before you knew it you had been hired.
Safe to say you hadn't looked back and you thanked your lucky stars that Telma gave you a chance. After all, you were extremely popular with the young soldiers and travellers, in more ways than one. While it flattered you, you weren't interested. Not because you didn't want their attention, but because you were happy living your life as it was, besides no one had caught your attention. Not yet anyway.
Letting out a yawn, you wiped the bar and placed the few glasses that had been left in the sink, being sure to note to come back to them after you'd done another sweep of the bar to make sure you'd not missed any on the tables. There were only a few stragglers left but you didn't mind staying late than normal, especially when a certain cat kept you company behind the bar. Besides, Telma was expecting someone and asked you to let her know when they had arrived. After picking up a few more glasses, you headed back to your place behind the bar and set the items in your hands at the sink. The ringing of the bell above the bar door made you turn around, offering a bright smile to whoever walked in. "Welcome to Tel~".
Tilting your head in confusion, you looked around and back at the door, shrugging your shoulds when you saw no one new. Deciding it was possibly one of the few who were left inside leaving, you turned around and looked down at the feline at your feet before you began to wash the glasses. "You know, I'm sure I'm losing it slowly, Lousie".
The white cat just looked up at you and meowed, before she stood and stretched, plopping back down and curling herself back up in a ball. Letting out a small laugh, you hummed softly to yourself not paying much attention to the person who had stepped up to the bar, their eyes watching you carefully for a moment, taking in what you were doing and how you interacted with the feline at your side. They could have stayed there all day if they wanted but they had other matters to attend to. "Excuse me miss, can you tell Telma I'm here to see her now".
The sudden intrusion of the words made you jump, your grip on the cloth in your hands tightening as you felt your soul almost leave you. Placing the piece of fabric down, you wiped your hands and turned around, almost ready to give the person a piece of your mind until you met their eyes. Cliché as it sounds but time felt like it had stopped. You'd never seen eyes so blue in your life. Everything seemed to fade away, all there was in your vision was the male who seemed to be staring back at you. It took a moment for your brain to catch up with what he had said, blinking a few times to bring yourself back around. "Huh? Ohh, yeah. L-Let me just grab her for you~".
Walking quickly from behind the bar you walked to a small booth at the side and placed your hands on the table to make yourself known. Of course, Telma was busy with some business but you had your ways of making it known you were there. "Telma, there's someone here to see you".
Peaking from your side, the bar owner looked at the male who stood beside the bar, a bright smile shone on her face when she caught his attention and motioned him over. Looking over your should, you moved to the side when he reached the table and let him slide in as he seated himself down. "Thank you, (y/n). Can you bring us a couple of the special?".
Nodding your head, you smiled softly as walked back towards the area you had come from, feeling eyes on you as you moved.
Doing as you were asked, you brought two glasses over and bowed, excusing yourself to finish cleaning up after the rest of the bargoers left. You hated to admit it but curiosity tried to get the better of you a few times, wondering what business Telma had with this guy. It was nothing to do with you but you wanted to observe him a little more, as selfish as it sounded. You didn't know how long they were talking but soon the sound of Telma beside you at the bar brought you out of your little daydream. "Thank you for staying a little longer, that took a bit more time than I thought.".
Humming you nodded your head and stretched, placing your hands behind your back and untying your apron. It had been a long shift, not that you minded but you were ready to go home and curled up in bed. As if on cue, a yawn left your mouth and you shrunk down slightly in embarrassment, much to the amusement of the older woman. "Go on love, off you go. Take the day off tomorrow, you deserve it and don't worry, you'll still be paid".
Blinking, she must have somehow read your mind but you smiled nonetheless, nodding your head as you gave her a hug, bidding farewell to both her and Louise. Grabbing your cloak, you wrapped it around you and stepped outside the bar's door and carefully shut the door behind you. The cool Hyrulian air hugged what skin was exposed as a sigh of contentment passed your lips. Lifting your hood, you heard the sound of the door opening behind you moving to let the person aside as you slipped your arms under the material that now covered you. That's when a hand on your shoulder made you look and you were face to face with those eyes again. "Oh, it's you. Hope you had a good meeting with Telma, whatever it was about".
Offering a soft smile to the male, you removed your hand from under your cloak and lifted it up, holding it out for him to shake. "I'm (y/n) if you hadn't already guessed earlier and you are?".
The male looked at you and gave a small smirk, taking a hold of your hand and lifting it you his lips, placing a soft kiss on the back of it. You felt like a fire had been lit on your face as you watched him closely. After a lingering few seconds, he placed your hand back at your side and smiled, waving to you as he walked off up the stairs. Looking at your hand, you blocked before looking back at the retreating figure. He hadn't told you his name and you'd be damned if he left without telling you. Rushing forward, you ran up the steps quickly just in time to catch him a few steps in front of you in the alley. "Hey! You didn't tell me your name, bluey".
The male stopped in his tracks and looked over his shoulder, something about the way he looked at you made you gasp. Was it the nickname you'd given him there due to his eyes or was it something else? You could see the somewhat inner debate before he continued to walk slowly, lifting his hand almost as if he was trying to stop you from following like he sensed you were trying to do just that.
"The name's Link".

It had been one hundred years since Calamity Ganon had practically destroyed Hyrule. Infecting both the Divine Beasts and Guardians with malice. The Champions falling and the same fate seemed to take the appointed knight Princess Zelda.
Tales of this fallen knight were passed down throughout the generations that had managed to survive and re-grow. Also told were the stories of the princess who remained trapped deep within the walls of Hyrule castle. The young maiden trying her hardest to fend off the evil inside until the day her knight reappeared. The day the four Divine Beasts calmed and the knight drew the darkness sealing sword again - ending the calamity once and for all.
Just off the North-Western most point of the Tabantha region sat a quiet little village. One that managed to somehow survive the wrath of Calamity Ganon, the guardians and the endless hordes of monsters.
The residents of the village offered their aid over the years to those who needed it. Opening their homes to the injured and tired who found themselves there. Slowly building a reputation amongst the other villages and travellers alike. One every inhabitant prided themselves on.
Enough so to catch the attention of a traveller they'd never imagine they'd ever host.
A soft hum passed your lips as you walked around the shop, the basket resting on your hip as you checked the stock you passed, refilling what needed to be replenished. The past few days had been busy with merchants and travellers, and having a moment to finally be able to breathe and take your time felt like a reward sent by the Goddess herself.
Content in your own little world, you didn't even hear the movements behind you until it was too late, the basket at your side dropping with a thud as you knocked into a person. Quickly crouching down, you picked up the items scattered on the floor. “Oh Hylia! I am so sorry~".
Your words cut short as you looked at the figure in front of you. Your eyes had to be deceiving you. There stood a doppelgänger of the legendary knight. You had to be crazy if you thought it was him, he'd fallen while trying to protect the princess. Then again, there was always the stories of him being placed into a deep sleep. One that would wipe all memories but repair his body, his wounds easing over the rumoured 100 years. The Sheikah presented him with a device to help him on his journey again if he was to return. "Are you okay there?".
The sound of a voice brought you out of your trance-like state with a confused blink. The room around you coming back into focus as you looked up again. The words processing in your mind as you caught up with what had been said to you. "Huh? Oh yeah, I’m okay. Nothing I’m not used to doing by now. Thank you for asking~”.
Standing up, you lifted the basket with you and placed it on the counter beside you. Dusting them off on your apron before clasping them in front of you, a warm smile helping to greet your customer. “~is there anything you would you like a hand with?".
For the best part of your day, you walked around your shop with the male, talking him through the various properties of the items you stocked and what went well together to create some of the tastiest food in all of Hyrule. Also what could be combined with certain weapons to add some benefits and make his attacks a little deadly to the guardians that still roamed.
With what he needed in hand, the young male paid in full before bidding farewell with a hand on the door as he pushed it open. This was your last chance, you had to find out if what you were thinking were true. You could be wrong but you wouldn’t know unless you tried. Taking in a breath, you placed a hand on the counter in front of you as you leaned forward slightly hoping your voice would carry loud enough for him to hear. "Thank you so much for your patronage! I hope to see you around again Mr~".
The male stopped in his tracks, hand still holding the door open as he thought for a moment. A smile on his face told you he trusted you enough with what he was about to say. Whether or not you believed him would be a different matter. "Link. Please call me Link".
With that, he’d disappeared from your sight as you mulled over his words. The name seemed awfully familiar to you and as far as you were aware, no other Hylian had the same name. Only a few seconds later, realisation dawned on you. A small gasp passing your lips. “Link? As in the appointed knight? It can’t be, can it?”.
You prayed to the Goddess that you were right but you’d have to wait until he came back to find out, and that was sooner than you believed.

Two weeks, two cursed weeks that you lover was away in Gerudo, wasting the time away with the princess beside him and only when he does get home—to you—he is ripped away once more.
“A ball?” You inquire softly, having no energy of meeting Link’s eyes, exhaustion apparent with the ache embedded deeply in your bones.
“Come with me?” He blinks softly, his sky blue eyes reminding you of the times where he and you would nap beneath the shade a tree has to offer under a stunning cloudless sky.
But such times are a thing of the past. The thought is scalding.
Link sees the fire your eyes hold, they’re practically smoldering as you glare at the sealed letter in his hands. “You want me to attend? The ball your princess is holding?” You sneer angrily.
He’s never noticed your anger and it takes him off guard. “It is just a ball, my love-“
“I refuse.” Your words are stern, leaving no room for argument.
Link feels an itch of annoyance claw at him. “I am required to attend, so please, come with me?”
“Go with your princess, Link, I have no interest in catering to the wants of the nobles.”
He’s quick to catch a flicker of hurt in your eyes and he feels his heart break. “Talk to me please?” Link’s voice is soft—vulnerable—and it reminds you of your Link.
Your guard lowers but you feel as if a cold bucket of water was just dunked over you. “You’ve been so angry recently, it isn’t like you—“
“It really isn’t like me Link, yet who can blame me when my spouse is always leaving me alone?”
His eyes narrow, blues darkening in warning. “Forgive me for I am at the very forefront of this war. Battered and wrecked, I come to you first.”
“Yet why do I not feel like I am first? To me, my love,” the pet name is sickly sweet and Link holds back the urge of wincing. “Your precious Zelda is always first.”
Time slows and Link momentarily pauses, he catches himself, “I’m sorry for not noticing until now-” It’s too late, all your hurt—inflicted by him—has turned into anger.
Anger rips through your very being as you meet his eyes, “You’ve only now noticed, Link? Or is it simply because you’re never here to see me hurt and angered by you and what you do to me?” Your words shock him, the anger masking your hurt irritating Link even further.
“Never here? I’m working to make sure you’re comfortable, that you’re safe, and yet this is what I get in return for giving you a better home than the old cabin we lived in?” Your heart aches as he yells and you’re able to see anger and betrayal simmering in his blue orbs that used to be so serene and calm.
A small laugh tumbles from your lips, your eyes aching with the weight of unshed tears—of having the weight of your relationship on your shoulders. “Do you not understand?”
The words die on Link’s tongue, guilt and hurt leeching into his soul at the sight of your tears. “I care not for the riches they bestow upon you, I care not for the land or titles you may hold, I care not of such things.” You furiously wipe away at your tears, hiccups becoming louder as the seconds pass.
“You are my home, do you not understand?” You look at him in the eye and Link sees defeat dim your eyes and it tears at the very being of his soul.
"I may be a fool for wanting that old cabin back, but at least then I was loved- I felt loved, Link. Yet, you trade that—our happiness—for the artificially that upper society has to offer?"
Guilt and sorrow claws at Link's insides as he feels defeat settle in his bones, a strong melancholy winding itself so tightly around his heart that it is even hard for him to breathe. He sees your eyes, puffy with unshed tears and he's enveloped in an unwanted hug of shame and guilt.
I was a fool. He thinks bitterly as he pays the price of seeing you so hurt, so bruised, but it all pales in comparison to the hurt you've felt, the pain he's forced you to endure.
"I go to sleep in a cold bed, I awake to one, yet does it ever cross your mind that your absence hurts me? And whenever you are home, in my arms, I mourn for myself—for us—and what our relationship could have been.
"Can you believe that? I mourn my lover who is sleeping next to me, I mourn the man who once showed me how much he loves me, I mourn us.” A dry laugh tumbles from your lips as you cry, feeling so alone despite your lover standing before you.
You’re breathless, "Do you not cry my name in the dark like I do yours?"

The sun warms the skin of your rosy cheeks as it pours from the canopy of leaves overhead. The woods smell of fresh earth as it had just rained prior, allowing the cool air to kiss your nose sweetly.
You've forgone your constraining heels, deciding to go bare foot as you race through the forest, hoping to find a rare herb whose blooming window now only opened.
If you miss such an opportunity, the herb won't bloom until a couple moons later. Such a thought causes you to huff as you continue running, hoping to out run your knight who seems keen on following you.
Besides your soft pants, you hear your assigned knights heavy footfalls. Odd, you think as his foot steps are always so light.
Breaking from the tree line, the morning sun paints you in a golden glow that warms you up, chasing away the chill that was starting to settle in your limbs. You hear the footfalls come closer and you start your sprint once more, being careful with running on a fallen log that acted as a bridge over a small ravine.
"Your highness!" A voice calls out, the familiarity of his voice causes a slight upturn of the corners of your lips.
You're halfway on the large log before you meet sky blue eyes that remind of you clear, cloudless skies that you oh so adore. His cheeks are slightly flushed, his hair windswept from the run from the castle to the forest you've forced him to endure, and yet, his eyes remain kind.
"Ser Link," You hum thoughtfully, borderline coy. "Kind of you to finally join me."
You see Link's nose scrunch slightly, such a small twitch would've gone unnoticed if you haven't been paying close attention as your knight never seems to break character.
Always it seems that he chooses to keep a tight lipped mouth, his face stern, his body rigid as to alway be prepared, and yet, his eyes are such an endless pool of blue that you can read quite well—more likely are allowed to—and only with you, he seems to talk, his words always so soft and endearing.
Even if you cause trouble, like now, where he's to chase after you, or if you were to endanger yourself accidentally, it is never anger or frustration you see in his bluebell eyes, but always worry.
"It's dangerous." His words are curt, yet there's a slight furrow to his eyebrows that will go unnoticed by many. But you aren't like most people, you catch on quick when it comes to his tells and his eyes-
Stars, they're filled with an apparent worry that guilt starts tugging at your soul.
You swiftly turn, resuming your dash to the other side as a flash of lavender and your eyes widen as you see a superbloom of armoranth, a rare commodity even for the likes of the nobility and imperial family as well.
"Princess!" Link calls out worriedly but your feet is already touching the soft grass on the other side of the ravine and only after a few steps away from the log, you turn.
Your eyes widen as you see Link hurriedly crossing the makeshift bridge, his sword strapped to his back as his arms a somewhat raised to help him balance on the log as he hurried to you. His lips are pursed cutely, the furrow between his brows deepening and becoming apparent. Such a sight causes you to smile widely as a sweet laugh tumbles from your lips, being unable to hold it back.
Link's eyes widen as his head snaps quickly to your direction as he stumbles off the log slightly and onto solid ground. You're kind enough to quickly grab ahold of his hand to keep him steady and even kinder to reduce your cackles to soft giggles.
"You must be careful now, Ser Link, I don't want you tripping again." You tease softly as you give him a sweet smile and your knight looks gobsmacked at the sight.
You cough slightly, snapping Link out of his daze before he drops to one knee, keeping your hand in his in a firm yet soft grip that allows you to pull away if you so desire to. He's quiet as his eyes become somewhat sad and you feel bad for teasing him and keeping such a nonchalant facade with him.

Palace politics and the nobility were unkind, you and Zelda having not been spared from it as the sole heirs to Hyrule. Having been assigned knights against both of your wishes, Zelda was rightfully angered, feeling more constrained by your father's decision.
In a fit of anger, she had urged you to rebel against your knight as you also shouldn't be controlled even more. You sighed, silently promising yourself that you'd be polite to your knight while trying to maintain a facade of indifference to your knight in hopes of quelling your sisters unhappiness.
It was only when Zelda's showcase of her displeasure and unfair treatment directed towards her knight became so blatant that you are reminded to maintain your promise to yourself to treat your own knight with grace.
You recall of the times Link had saved you from your own stupidity so selflessly and without regards to his own safety and it pushes you to soften your cold facade with your knight as he too is only fulfilling his purpose, a royal guard bound by the king's order whose words is absolute.
After arguing with your father about the medical treatment regarding those affected by a sudden winter blight, or therefore lack of, you stormed out of the throne room in anger.
You then callously snapped at Link for no reason as he simply followed you as he usually does to your quarters. In the heat of your frustration, you became blind to his sky blue eyes faltering, hurt flashing through them briefly.
Later that night, going against your father's orders and not informing Link, you sneak out of your room and into the Applean forest. The said forest is a great deal of distance away from the castle but you had caught wind of a great deal of herbs growing there that would effectively help combat the effects of the blight.
Bundling them a handful in a small cloth, you scolded yourself for your harsh words to your knight and promised to make a healing balm composed of the herbs to give to Link as an apology, and to hopefully turn a new leaf as well.
But as you are starting to make your way out of the forest, a loud squeamish squeal rips through the air and your blood chills. From the corner of your eye, you see the red skin of a bokoblin wielding a wooden club.
Chastising yourself for not bringing Link with you, you break into a sprint, the beast giving chase. Breaking out of the the tree line, your heart pounds against your chest but as you gain a decent distance between you and the bokoblin, a chilling sound of a guardian focusing its laser causes your heart to drop.
You look up swiftly, seeing the reddish glow of a guardian going on the offense due to detecting an enemy. A malfunctioning one, Zelda had mentioned some defects. You cursed, biting your bottom lip anxiously as the bokoblin closes in on you and the guardian prepares to fire its beam.
You berate yourself for your unkindness towards Link in your last moments with him and you are forced to come to terms with your untimely death.
Time seems to slow and just as you see the laser make its away to you, a firm yet gentle arm wraps around your waist as your back lands against something solid and warm. The smell of sweet spearmint and earthy pine fills your nose and your body slackens in relief as you recognize this scent—his scent.
"Link." You murmur softly as you turn your head, bearing witness to his skills that rivals none in the kingdom.
He quickly brings the Hylian shield you had gifted to him during his knighthood ceremony and quickly parries the guardian beam causing the large tank of ancient tech to combust immediately before Link tears his arm away from you, choosing to draw his sword and making a quick work of the bokoblin.
Time between you and Link seems to stand still as you stare at his back. Guilt consumes your heart, you worried him horribly this time. Stars, if anything had happened to you, they would've punished Link and ultimately put his head on a pike.
You open your mouth to profusely apologize but Link is quick to bend the knee in front of you, his eyes never leaving yours and you feel horrible when you bear witness to the clear stress and worry swimming in his eyes.
Link gently grasps your hand, squeezing softly that doesn't hurt you in anyway that seems to reassure himself that you're safe and real. "I-.. I know you despise me for restricting your freedom, but please- please, next time if you wish to go out, please take me with you so I am to safeguard you from harm." He looks away, lips pursed softly as his eyes become sullen.
By some instinct—an urge—you cup his face, softly easing him to look at you in the eye once more. You're to speak yet the earnest look in his eyes forces any words to die on your tongue and you're taken off guard with how kind and true your knight is.
"Ser Link, I'm sorry for making you feel as if I despise you. In truth, I don't hate you at all, yet despite that, my actions showed you otherwise, and for that, I apologize. I apologize for snapping at you earlier, and I'm extremely sorry for worrying you with my stupid stunt tonight."
His eyes widen softly, the stars gleam from overhead making them twinkle and the sight seizes your breath. "I'm sorry, Ser Link, for everything." You murmur softly, bowing slightly.
A gentle squeeze to your hand encased in his brings your attention back to him. Your eyes widen from the sight in front of you, your heart stuttering and breath hitching ever so slightly as you see a small smile grace Link's face. He then leans further to place a soft kiss to the back of your balm, his honest eyes never straying from yours.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ
Guilt ebbs away at your psyche once more as you recall that you've never apologized for your constant indifference towards him and have actually kept it up.
A grimace itches at your face, "I'm sorry, Ser Link, for the incessant teasing." You sigh meekly, your thumb mindlessly rubbing back and forth on Link's gloved hand.
His eyes widen slightly and you hate yourself even more at the implications—stars, of course he doesn't expect a sincere apology from you as you've gone up and ditched him the second time since the guardian incident!
His reaction bothers you more knowing that the reason why you've began to avoid your knight was because of the constant skips your heart would make whenever you and Ser Link interacted.
Stars, he is your knight and you a princess, never mind your reputation, you'd only sully his and make him a court fool in front of the nobility if you're to pursue him-
You lose yourself to the brewing storm in your mind and ever the observant knight he is, Link notices how your eyes become sullen. He gently squeezes your hand, a move you've become familiar with, and it works as your attention moves back to him.
"Princess, I've no need to forgive you for something that doesn't upset me. I- I'm just glad that you've begun to talk to me comfortably." He murmurs softly and you will your heart to not skip a beat because stars-
His eyes are so blue—an endless sea of honesty and softness that you've come to realize that he's granted only you the privilege of seeing—and the sight has your heart pounding.
A small smile tugs on your lips, "It is one of the many things I can do to make up for how cold and indifferent I've acted towards you, Ser Link." You purse your lips, looking away and Link sees how truly sorry your are in your eyes.
He squeezes your hand once more to get your attention on him once more and the pained smile on your face tugs at his heart strings. "I've constantly taken advantage for your unwavering loyalty, Ser Link. I'm-"
Stars, it truly is upsetting. He is only doing what he is ordered to by your father and you punish him nonetheless? How unkind and unjust for you to treat him like that-
How cruel can you be to someone so innocent in royal affairs? The thought is chilling and it overwhelms your control over your emotions.
A choked gasp leaves your lips as he sees your eyes glaze over with unshed tears. Link is quick to rise, his body moving closer as he patiently waits for your signal.
You catch on and nod despite being unaware of his intentions. Yet from the honest look in his eyes, you realize that you trust the man in front of you wholeheartedly. "I'm sorry for every wrongdoing I've committed against you." You mutter, looking away from him in shame.
Link's hands gently cups your face, and like on the night of the guardian incident, he mimics what you had done and makes you look at him in such a gentle manner that intensifies the ache in your chest.
Your lips are pursed, eyebrows furrowed in guilt, and Link smiles softly to ease your worries. You melt, cheek leaning into his hand as he gently caresses your cheek with the soothing motions of his thumb.
Beautiful. Absolute stunning. Link finds the thought at the forefront of his mind as he looks at you.
"It's okay, princess. Just promise me that you'll allow me to stay by your side." Link murmurs, eyes looking into yours with such a softness that could make you melt even further.
You bring up your hands to cup his as the sweetest smile gracing your face sends his heart racing. "I promise, Link."

Link sees your eyebrows furrow, “Are you sure? You wish to bring a common woman who’s a simple painter to a ball?”
A stab of hurt spreads throughout his chest and before he can answer your question, you speak. “With your achievements, Princess Zelda is more of a favorable person you should escort. 'Lest we want to sully your prestige, my love.” Your words drip with false indifference, hoping your lover will not notice.
He’s no fool, he sees the flurry of emotions pooling into your eyes and Link’s heart cracks. He’s endured war, massacring monsters and Hylians alike—stars, he even tolerates the unreasonable orders spewed from the king’s mouth and the princess’s unpleasant gaze and fleeting touches—just so he is worthy enough of you.
“No.” Link’s resolve strengthens itself as your eyes momentarily flicker to his, surprise oh so evident. “What kind of coward am I to settle for another when my heart belongs to you?” His words are firm, reassuring and you find your guard lowering.
You then melt against his sturdy body when he embraces you, and suddenly, you unfold like a love letter read in the dark, a secret that only moon and stars would know. “Promise?” Link allows his walls to drop momentarily for you.
“Promise,” His words are a whisper, pressed gently to the corner of your lip as Link looks into your eyes deeply. “I chose you and I’l choose you over and over. Without pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat. I’ll keep choosing you.”
Tear well in your eyes before they roll down your cheeks. Your hand cups Link’s face and you see his eyes soften before you’re enveloping him with your arms as he too, reciprocates the hug by holding onto you even tighter.
“I love you.” His promise is burned into your skin with his lips, yet why does your heartache never seem cease?

Looking into the mirror, you see how the silk hugs your body and how the corset’s asymmetrical look enhances your shoulder and clavicle. The layered pearl necklace shines with a milky iridescence that creates a dreamy look.
But as you continue to stare at your in the mirror, you’re caught off guard by the woman who greets you. She held no twinkle in her eyes, they were dim and almost lifeless.
A knocks rasps you out of you reverie and you’re welcomed by the rare sight of Link’s smile and his eyes crinkling sweetly.
You smile softly, feeling a phantom ache in your heart as you take his hand, your mind drifting back to the tired woman in the mirror and before you know it, you’re off to the banquet hand in hand with the man you love.

You don’t know how to feel when the music starts and a hushed silence falls over the crowd of nobles and royals alike. You see Princess Zelda in the middle, seeming to wait for someone.
Eyes clashing against blue ones, you see hesitation flash in them before Link is turning away from you and everything suddenly clicks in place.
Your lover takes her hand, placing a kiss on the back of it and you feel like you’re intruding on something intimate. It’s a cold and unsettling feeling.
It’s almost invasive as you continue to watch the Princess and Link—your lover—dance perfectly, almost as if they’re puzzle pieces destined to fit.
Numbness has set in as the music reaches a crescendo, Zelda’s dress fluttering prettily as Link keeps his eyes on her. It’s odd, to be haunted by someone that is still alive. You muse, heart aching.
The music softens into the diminuendo and the claps entering your ears snap you out of your thoughts. Your eyes refocus and despite the signal of the dance ending, Princess Zelda and Link stay rooted in the middle.
Silence befalls the massive ballroom and anxiety prickles at the bottom of your stomach as you notice the look in the princess’s eyes—it's the very same look you also hold for the man standing in front of her.
“Thank you, Link. For everything you’ve done for Hyrule.. and for me. I -um,” The princess of Hyrule trails off, a pinkish hue coloring the apples of her cheeks as she gently holds your lover’s hand.
Your heart drops, an overwhelming wave of anxiety and despair washing over you as you have a horrible feeling of what is to happen next.
“I want you to be happy,” Zelda hums cheerily, a pretty smile adorning her face.
“And I would love for it to be with me.” Despair pools in your stomach, your eyes quickly fly to our lover’s face. His eyes are unreadable and he’s stiff as a board but Zelda nor the nobles crowding around them don’t seem to notice.
There’s this overwhelming ache in your chest, a severe melancholy wrapping so tightly around your heart, it snaps abruptly as your eyes continue to linger on Princess Zelda and Link.
Your eyes meet Link’s momentarily and you’re taken back to the moment where you looked in the mirror earlier, you remember the woman—you—who looked so defeated in the mirror.
Another stab of pain hits your heart and your mind clears itself of thoughts but one. I love him, but stars, I want him to stay away from me. You curse mentally as the pain intensifies, borderline burning as unshed tears sear your eyes.
A choked cry tumbles from your lips, tears blurring your vision as you abruptly turn away. You turn your back on the man you loved, taking the battered woman he’s turned you into with you.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
Link’s blood runs cold at the Princess’s words, but despite the people surrounding him, he tears his eyes from the princess in front of him and looks to where you once stood but you’re no longer there.
Desperation tugs at his entire being, his soul aching for you as the ring hanging from his neck burns against his skin.
But alas, he forces himself to push down the urge to chase after you because if he were to leave and follow his heart—the being who his heart yearns for—the kingdom would stop at no means of having your head on a spike.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
Stars, you were a fool.
You stayed despite his silence, despite his distance, despite how he treated you.
You stayed.
And the wounds inflicted by Link, the man that supposedly loved you, left scorched marks burned into your heart.
The wind widely flies by your face as you urge your steed faster, faster to a safe place, to home, and away from him.
A field of white baby’s breath enters your vision and your breath hitches as the dam breaks, tears freely rolling down your cheeks as you sobbed.
“I was robbed of my life. I could have been happy—I could have been alive but he took my heart and murdered it.” You screamed to the stars, the fire consuming your heart intensifying the pain you feel.
She pops into your mind, the woman before the capital, the woman before being engulfed by the fires of love Link allowed to consume her, the woman—you—before all of the forsaken heartache burnt you whole.
“Am I supposed to be grateful to have survived this?” You cried, stumbling from your horse and into the small cabin surrounded by baby’s breath, the very cabin you and Link once called home before your loves' downfall.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
Stars, he was a fool.
A fool for leaving you alone, a fool for choosing duty-
A fool for letting you go.
A complete and utter fool.
Link feels his frustrations rise, his skin burning as he worries where you are.
You were gone, not a single trace of you in the mansion. Almost as if you had left the place untouched.
He curses under his breath, tears welling in Link’s ultramarine eyes yet none fall.
He must be strong, for the kingdom, for him, for you.
A field of white enters his view and the morning dew twinkles at the sunlight peeking from the horizon.
Link’s breath catches in his throat at the sight before him.
It’s the cabin where you both originally stayed in, shaped it into home, and allowed your love to flourish.
Home.
His heart aches and there’s a deep yearning in his chest, a yearning of wanting to go back to how things were.
He dismounts his steed and races for the door hoping to see the fire lit and you home yet he’s met with darkness and the cabin being untouched.
His heart seizes as he recalls of what you had said before and Link realizes that you missed home, you miss how everything was once before.
He too shares the sentiments but he realizes it too late, “Stars, how was I so blind?” He whispers as he travels through the cabin, making his way to the back porch.
Link opens the door as dawn breaks and his breath hitches, his heart skips a beat.
He feels like a young boy once more as he sets his cobalt blue eyes on your figure sitting in the gazebo.
The sight of you and the effect you have on him reminds him of the day you both confessed your feelings, bathed in sunlight and absolutely breath taking.
You’re painted in a golden glow, the silk against your body shining softly forcing Link’s heart to tighten.
Oh stars, he’s missed you so much, the yearning to have you in his arms growing stronger as the ring burns even more against his skin.
He’s quick to make his way towards you, his footsteps on the grass and moss covered step stones softening his already quiet steps.
Link’s heart soars as he’s eager to get to you as soon as possible and yet, it’s short lived as your tired gaze pierces his eyes. His heart sinks slightly as panic rushes through his veins as he comes to an abrupt stop in front of you.
“Link,” Your sweet voice is hoarse, tired and run dry, which forces a slight pang of hurt across his heart.
His heart suddenly drops as you speak the words with a painful finality, “I can no longer do this.”
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
You’re leaving, you’re slipping through his grasp and it destroys him. Link looks up to you, your eyes unreadable and it forces him to impulsively move. He yanks the ring attached to the necklace hooked around his neck.
He sees your eyes widen as you glimpse the golden ring in his hand, confusion evident in your eyes. But the pain is overwhelming in Link’s heart.
Link falls to his knees before you, begging for forgiveness as would a sinner pleading to the Goddess. And like the sinner he is, you recoil, denying him of his retribution and sending his heart into despair.
“This was not how I wanted you to find out, but my love, please listen to me.” He croaks in between cries, hands grasping the silk of your dress as he buries his tear stricken face into the tops of your thighs.
“You will never lose me. I will always be right here beside you. I’m all yours my love.” He whimpered, hand shakily putting the ring on your finger and the golden ring burns against your skin.
You shake you head softly, “Yet it never felt that way, Link. You whispered sweet nothings in my ear and you told me you loved me. I found myself believing your lies when it all struck me at once, I haven’t felt loved by you.”
His heart aches at the shakiness of your tone and his arms wrapped around your waist tightens even further as he buries his face further into you naval, seeking refuge while hoping to make you stay.
“You no longer love me, Link. And I you.” A chill wracks his entire body, his eyes snapping to yours quickly in disbelief.
No no no. Link internally screams. “You love me, and—“
Your eyes hardens and Link’s resolve weakens even further. Stars, what has he done? “Loved. I loved you, Link.”
His breath hitches and you close your eyes as a choke gasp leaves your former lover’s lips. His hand gently squeeze your hips, a motion you once found reassuring, now burned your skin.
“Love, you love me.” Link croaks out weakly, his body trembling against yours.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
You stared at him, and no longer did your heart ache at the love you both held for each other, instead, your heart thumped slowly and numbly. Yet, you feel a spike of guilt as he had provided a roof over your head, food for you to eat and so much more.
As the last act of love you so generously bestow upon your former lover, you cup his face gently, his teary bluebell eyes meeting your tired ones. You don’t have the energy for feign a smile but your thumb is gentle against his cheeks, softly swiping away any stray tears of his.
You see how much love is in Link’s eyes, it’s practically overflowing, almost like an ocean capable of drowning you. Inhaling a shaky breath, you murmur, “The truth I learned here is, you had to leave because you’re you.”
“And the reason I loved you is because you’re you. And who you are is someone who leaves, Link. The Link I remember doesn’t exist here. He doesn’t exist in the courts, in our home, and in you.”
He’s speechless, his tongue feels heavy as lead as your emotions of sadness and vulnerability seep into your tone.
“But he did once exist and you left him with me. A presence to yearn for—a part of you who I so badly wished for to be beside me—who gradually became a ghost to haunt me.” Link sees a glimmer of regret in your eyes. “Despite it all, I loved him.”
You swallow thickly, a small yet feeble smile tugging at your lips weakly, and the coil of pain tied tightly around his heart tightens, leaving Link feeling weak and breathless.
“To this kingdom, to her, you’re someone who stays.” He feels fear creep in his heart, the blood in his veins turning ice cold as you gazed at him with a thousand yard stare completely devoid of the loving warmth you once held for him.
It all comes to him and shame envelopes his entire being. As he built his walls to protect himself —the Link he was once before entering the palace, the Link you once loved—he failed to realize that he also cast you out.
Even as he worked tirelessly to provide you what he convinced himself that would make you happy—prestige, wealth—he had turned a blind eye to how much he had neglected you.
In the process of wanting to make you safer—happier—Link ultimately traded your happiness for what he thought would be your happiness and as retribution, he himself brought the ruination of the love between you both.
He’s forced to come to the abrupt realization that he’s to be haunted for the rest of his life, haunted by what lived, died, and could’ve been between you and him.
The cord snaps and Link feels his heart burn, leaving marred and scorched scars embedded so deeply in his heart. Link looks to you, face a calm mien but his eyes are a dead giveaway of the despair he shamefully feels.
Link’s words are subdued and quiet almost as if he's mourning, “If I could have done it all over again, I would have loved you better. But I couldn’t have loved you anymore than I already do.”
Your eyes dimmed and Link dies inside, stars, he was supposed to protect the shine in your eyes—you—he was supposed to protect you but-
“Know that I loved you, Link, but know that it was not enough.”

Sleep does not come to Link that easily. Despite holding you in his arms as you slept, your warmth did not beckon his eyelids to fall. Instead, he gazes fondly at your sleeping face.
Link's heart soars as a smile tugs at his lips but soon falters as he feels fear creep in. The over-looming threat of the Calamity continuously draws near. Then, the view of you blurs as Link drowns himself in his thoughts.
He hesitates, questioning whether or not his decision is right, if the lack of your say in the matters is the correct thing to do. It feels wrong, a raw disgust filling his veins but his fear overpowers his rationality, rearing its ugly head that Link is forced to look at.
But as he stares into the eyes of the King of Hyrule, he is forced to come to terms that if he refuses the offer, you may be vulnerable to the incoming Calamity’s wrath. And so, Link deludes himself into believing that this is what is necessary to keep you out of harms way.
He’s snapped back into reality as you snuggle further into him, your warmth permeating through his skin and into his soul. Gradually, Link feels his fears melt away. It needs to be done, for no cost is too great to keep you safe. He thinks, hand gently cupping your sleeping face.
“You are dear to me, I don’t want to ever let you go nor would I ever give you up,” Link’s words are hushed—masked as a promise—only heard by the moon and stars above. He presses a sweet kiss to your forehead as unshed tears glaze his eyes.
“I want to protect you, I want to guard you from the world that tries to so desperately dim your light—And by the stars, this I promise you for I love you too much.”
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
The move to Castle Town was much livelier than expected. Despite having to tear himself from you due to knightly duties, Link made an effort to always give you his time.
Laughter rings in your new, quaint home, smiles are pressed against each other, you both embrace each other when the moon rises and Link finds it hard to leave your serene hug but he must do what he is bound to and you continuously find yourself awaking to a cold bed.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
As the brightness of Spring quickly passes, Winter arrives, taking all the sweet liveliness of Spring with it, leaving the world—your world—cold and barren as a distance stretches itself between you and Link, your lover returning home more guarded and unreadable as time passes.
He is repeatedly sent on countless missions, tasked with being at the very forefront of wiping out monster and enemy camps. Your heart aches whenever he softly kisses you goodbye, and yet whenever he arrives home safely—alive—you find that the ache in your chest has never left in the first place.
You kiss him passionately, wanting to bruise him so that he wouldn’t be able to forget you. Though now much silent, Link shares the same sentiments as he worships your body, engraving marks reminding you of him into your soft skin that both reassures you and intensifies the longing in your heart.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
Time passes and Link steadily climbs the ranks, his time split between fighting at the frontlines and guarding Hyrule’s sole princess.
He’s given a noble title, land to go with it, and prestige. Yet, when you move into the estate he’s given, it doesn’t feel like home, instead it’s cold and barren, devoid of the love you and Link once filled your cozy apartment with.
Your lover dominates high society, titles falling at his feet whenever he’d come home victorious, yet why does it feel like you’ve lost him throughout his feats?
You no longer embrace each other before bed, his side of the bed remaining cold from dusk till dawn, nor does a boyish smile ever grace his face whenever you try to crack a joke, instead you’re only met with his furrowed brows and tired eyes.
Despite how Link has become dismissive and cold, you hold him gently in your arms, bare skin against bare skin and only now do you see that he’s been cracked enough as it is, his heart more shattered than he lets on.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
He envelops you whole, skin feverish as Link’s lips are merciless, leaving no spot of your skin untouched—unmarked—and your heart swells as a small part of you mourns.
“I love you and I will love you as long as I am able to love.” Link whispers, his words soft compared to the blatant sin he commits.
Your eyes flutter to a close, your hand finding home in his hair before you gently tug at his roots, eliciting a satisfying groan from your lover.
“I want everything back, the way it was.” Your words are a breathy as you speak and Link has to resist the urge to capture your lips.
But before you’re able to continue, a quick knock interrupts, breaking the bubble you and your lover were in. “Captain, you are needed.” A man, who you suppose was your lover’s subordinate, stated.
Link’s eyes stay glued to you, committing every slope, dip, and curve of yours to memory. “Is it urgent?” Link mutters loud enough for the man to hear, his blue eyes dark as an ocean’s, and you think that this is how people drown.
A quiet sigh leaves your lips as you go to grab your silken nightie, your body tensing as Link’s bare chest meets your back. He places soft kisses to your bare shoulder before he reaches the junction of your neck and shoulder.
“It’s Princess Zelda, sire, she was reported to be missing and seen on horseback heading to Gerudo.” The kisses on your shoulder ceases, an inaudible curse falling from Link’s lips and before you know it, your lover’s warmth is ripped from your back.
His clothes rustle, almost seeming to mock you and you feel your heart slowly sink again. Link gently cups your face, pivoting slightly so he’s able to see your face. Yet, you avoid his gaze.
Link places a delicate kiss to your forehead, silently promising that he’ll be back soon but yet, he becomes a blind eye to how your eyes dim.
The door shuts behind him and you’re left alone, feeling used and cold. “I want everything back, the way it was.” Tears run down your cheeks as his absence burns a deeper hole into your heart. “But there is no point to it, this wanting.”

Where had it all gone wrong? You wonder to yourself as you sobbed over the limp body of your dearly beloved.
You screamed and cried, begging for him to do anything, a twitch of his finger or whatever you could get to signal that he’s alive.
But you had gotten nothing and despite using your healing magic, you heard no thud of his heart—you heard nothing and it was deafening as is.
Zelda sat a bit away from her knight and beloved best friend, heart breaking into two, your pained cries shattering whatever pieces were left of Zelda’s heart.
Anxiety and fear bubbled up in you before spilling over as a chilling numbness settled in your chest and somehow the hurt and pain you’ve felt intensified in a silent yet deadly way.
Through your tear-marbled lashes, you see the faint glow of the Master Sword and the pain sharpens in your chest causing you to gasp and stagger. “Y/n!” Zelda cries as she catches you in her arms.
“Enlighten me.” You begged brokenly as you unravel yourself from the princess’s arms and grasp onto the handle of the master sword.
You hear its murmurs and despite the chances, relief floods your body but it’s short-lived as the agony burning through your chest extinguishes any positive emotions you could barely even muster to feel.
Letting go of the Goddess Blade so haphazardly, you cup your lover’s cheeks before pressing your forehead against his. The rain pelts against you both and the rain’s dew mixes with the tears running down your cheeks.
“I’m scared, my dear,” Your voice cracks with sorrow as your thumbs brush the debris on his cheekbones. “But come find me again—where the star falls, please?” The words tumble from your lips as a broken whisper lost in the rain’s pitter-patter to everyone but you and Link.
You lock your lips with his and you pour every remaining bit of your healing magic into your lover, to heal, to soothe, and to reassure. His pale complexion brightens a tad bit but he still lies motionless.
You faintly hear Zelda speaking to a Sheikah warrior about the shrine you had finally found and setting in motion the very plan you had devised to keep your lover away from death’s cold embrace.
“I love you, my darling.” You say as you bring his left hand to cup your cheek, kissing the very ring that is to bound your souls together as it temporarily glows a hue similar to that of your eyes before you pull away, your fingertips brushing against his skin one last time.
Hand grasping the very sword your lover wielded, you and Zelda parted from the Sheikah soldier who hoisted Link on his back.
You then embrace Hyrule's princess tightly and through the rain’s chilly onslaught, you let your warmth mingle with Zelda’s as a parting gift. Tears land on each other’s shoulders as you feel each other’s bodies shake, not from the cold, but from the fear and pain consuming your souls of what is to come.
No words are exchanged besides a heartbreaking gaze between you both before you part ways, one walking to the lost woods and the other where the calamity resides.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
Once you had successfully navigated through the foggy maze of the lost woods, you reach the silent Korok forest.
After the Calamity's arrival, all forests seemed to cease all of their songs and as you trekked through the Korok forest, a painful numbness settled all over your body, stopping your tears at once.
No koroks chirped with mischievous laughter nor did the wind sing with the tunes of rustling leaves. The damaged Master Sword feels heavier in your hand as you step atop the stone platform.
Your vision blurs with a new layer of fresh tears, ready to fall from your eyes as a wave of exhaustion crashes into you unexpectedly, like waves upon waves crashing onto the surf.
Collapsing into the lush, cool grass beneath the great Deku tree, a tired and pained sigh tumbles from your lips as you settle your back against the ancient tree’s bark.
You hold the sword protectively as you look at the concentrated malice engraved into the blade before you lean the butt of the sword’s handle against the bark, resting right next to your head.
A lone tear slips past your lashes and your eyes close, resigning yourself to the darkness that swallows your vision.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
You awake, vision blurry as you take in the forest, seeming to have grown more lush, either due to the passage of time passing or your nature magic seeping into the flora and fauna surrounding you.
“How many years have passed?” You question quietly, fixing yourself in a comfortable position as your arms hug the goddess blade protectively.
You hear the murmurings of the forest around you and your body freezes at the answer you get.
A decade.
Anguish wracks your entire being, tears stinging your eyes yet refusing to break through the dam that was unwittingly created through the massive amounts of trauma and grief you had to experience.
The mixture of your magic pool overflowing and your sudden flare of emotions causes blooms of blue nightshade to spring to life around you.
The overwhelming pain and sadness prevents you from moving as the scent of blue nightshade slips into your nose and you’re thrown into a dreamless slumber.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
You wake up throughout the decades that pass, rooted to your spot as you pitifully hope that your lover would have awoken to grab the Master Sword to finally defeat the evil poisoning Hyrule.
But to no avail, time still cruelly passes and the numbness covering your pain and grief grows. “I’m scared, Link.” You whisper into the night as you lean your cheek against the smooth, flat part of the Master Sword’s blade.
They both could be dead. The treacherous thought moves into your mind quickly, just like how shadows grow and dance under the moon’s domain, causing your heartache to intensify.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
“Why am I still here?” the question tumbles from your lips as you awake from your slumber yet again, losing count of how many times you’ve awoken and fallen asleep.
Your grief and pain seem to freeze you in time whilst the world continues to spin through the day and night cycles, time passing despite how you so badly wish it could stop.
You look to the skies as sunlight leaks from the Deku tree’s leaves and branches before spilling onto your face. “Is it stupid of me to patiently wait for someone who won’t even arrive?” You lament to yourself softly.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
As dusk transforms into dawn continuously, your hope dwindles as the years pass by. The idea of Link awakening grows dimmer and dimmer before you finally face the harsh truth as tears finally make their way down your cheeks.
Every instance your eyes flutter open and in the back of your mind, you continuously kill the traitorous hope of your lover being alive and as with killing your lover, you kill a part of yourself every time.
Awakening once more, you finally decide enough is enough, sick of the hollowing ache embedded so deeply within your chest.
You bring the back of your palm to your lips, gently kissing the golden band adorning your dominant hand’s ring finger before you weakly reach for a blue nightshade bud.
Crushing the bud into your palm, you force a pool of your power to liquefy into your palm to mix with the crushed blue nightshade petals. The tonic in your hand bleeds into vibrant blue before you bring the liquid to your lips.
“I’m sorry, my darling.” Your whispers are carried by the winds to lands beyond as your eyelids fall shut, hand falling limply on the ground against the Master sword’s tip and you’re blanketed with a painless sleep.
┊ ੈ✩‧₊*°࿐ྂ。
Link feels a swirl of emotions as his shattered memory is finally pieced together, he remembers Zelda, the champions—everyone yet why is there a phantom ache in his chest that hurts so much it’s hard for him to breathe?
It feels as if there’s something—someone important to him missing, seeming so close yet so far.
He shuts his eyes, hoping to get sleep before he’s to travel yet again and he’s engulfed in a sleep so comforting yet so terrifying.
“I’m scared, Link.” A soft voice whispers and Link’s heart shatters at how broken the voice sounds. “I’m sorry, my darling.”
Link feels the sudden urge to seek out the person behind the voice and comfort them with his entire being that everything would be alright but the person’s whispers are already lost to the wind.
Color fills his dream and the scenery changes. His eyes suddenly clash with beautiful e/c orbs that send his heart racing as a smile graces the woman's face and Link suddenly feels so starstruck as if he’s been placed under a love spell.
The unknown yet familiar woman cups his cheeks and Link’s heart nearly bursts at the close proximity. Her nose brushes against his and he feels swarms of butterflies wildly flap in his stomach.
Her eyes curl as she smiles yet again, “I love you, my darling.” She whispers, lips teasingly brushing against his.
Link finds himself sealing the gap between his lips and the woman’s and despite it feeling slightly foreign, her lips against his felt so painfully familiar.
It feels so heart-wrenchingly right.
But as per usual, he wakes with a start from the dream as the pain intensifies in his chest. Tears threaten to spill from his orbs as massive waves of grief wash over him, the image of the woman is immediately lost to him and he bites his lip to prevent a pained cry from escaping his lips.
He winces suddenly as light is reflected off something shiny before bouncing to his eyes. Moving his head, Link finally notices the ring adorning his left hand’s ring finger.
From his waking till now, he’s never paid much attention to the ring or even noticed it during his travels as he moved quickly, hoping to regain his strength and bearings to finally defeat Calamity Ganon once and for all.
He’s struck with a sense of nostalgia before his body moves on its own accord. Letting the muscle memory take over, his fist clenches, and the ring is brought to his lips before he delicately places a soft kiss against the cool metal.
It glows a familiar e/c hue and his thoughts take hold of Link. Eyes bearing a similar color flashes within his mind as the full image of the woman in his dreams fully make its presence known in his mind.
A soft e/c glow hugs Link and a myriad of lost memories quickly flash through his mind. His body relaxes as he inhales the comforting scent of sweet honey and floral nectar, causing everything to crash into him all at once.
Memories of you and him and the strong love you both shared for each other.
The woman in his dreams, guiding him and providing him with constant reassurance was you, the woman he had loved so much a century ago and still dearly loved now.
He remembers the moment you both met, standing on opposite sides of a fallen star fragment you both had chased as young teens, how the yellow glow of the fragment casted an ethereal glow on your stunning features that it had taken his breath away.
He remembers the night he caught you in a hidden corner of the palace gardens, flora blooming around you before you caught him looking at you so ardently. The moment you invited him to sit with you and talk about the most random of things made him feel as if he was just a regular hylian boy without the world’s weight on his shoulders.
Nights thereafter held a similar routine of basking in each other’s presence. One night, he had come to meet you with bruises from training, and for the first time in his life, his heart ached at the way your eyes filled with hurt and worry.
You then had cupped his cheek and a soft colored glow matching your eyes emanated from your palms before you told him of you being half fairy as a comforting and healing warmth filled his being, thus explaining your affinity with nature and healing magic.
Another memorable night was when he had brought you a small bouquet of gypsophila and you had tackled him in a hug, taking you both to the ground in a fit of hushed laughter and bright smiles. He sat up and found himself so close to you, your noses brushing against each other as your breaths and body warmth mingled in a tight hug.
He had eyed your lips before meeting your dazed orbs. He swallows his nervousness and musters the courage he and the heroes before him are known for. “May I?” He whispers.
Your answer was immediate, “Please.”
He then pressed his lips against yours and you quickly followed with kissing him back. It was a soft, quick kiss that sent both of your hearts beating so wildly, both of your minds reeling before you both had pulled away.
A shiver danced its way down his spine as he felt your fingers tangle with his locks on the nape of his neck, licking his lips and seeming in sync with your thoughts, he surges forward and meets your lips again in a loving kiss.
He then remembers a moment in the dead of night, when the full moon reached its apex, and you both laid next to each other, your bare skin brushed against his in the utmost alluring way as your hair spread around you almost like a halo.
You looked up at him as your cheek pressed against his bare chest and sent him a sweet yet dazzling smile that made his soul shiver in happiness—that made every part of him ache with an overwhelming amount of love for you.
He sent a small smile to you and reached over to the nightstand before grabbing your dominant hand and slipping a small golden band over your ring finger. He then placed a bigger ring in your palm, patiently waiting.
“Marry me?” He whispered, pressing his forehead against yours and cupping your face with his hands as his thumbs brushed away the tears leaking from your stunningly beautiful eyes.
His smile had widened as you abruptly sat up, holding the sheets to cover your bare body as your eyes sparkled with tears and love. A wobbly yet bright smile graced your features once more, his left hand gently being cupped by your smaller ones as you slipped his ring on.
“Yes,” You choke through your tears as you also cupped his face. “I love you.”
He smiled at your admission that seemed to always make his heart stutter. “I love you so much more.” He hummed softly as he pressed his lips against yours.
He held you tightly in his arms, and during that very same night, he realized he held a miracle.
An overwhelming wave of longing and a lovelorn sadness washes over Link as the hollowed ache in his chest sharpened into an intense pain that pricked every fiber of his being.
He had nearly died before and was on the brink of entering death’s cold embrace but yet, the pain he’s experienced before his new revelation could never compare to the brutally raw pain he now feels because there was a large possibility of you being lost in the throes of time.
It hurts. Link thinks quietly to himself as he grips the fabric situated above his heart so tightly his knuckles turn white.
How does he live? How does he breathe? When you’re not here, he’s suffocating and he realizes this is where he’d give it all up, everything he’s worked so very hard for. For you, he’d have to risk it all just to see you once more.
Hurriedly, Link gathers the small remains of his temporary camp and leaps upon his trusty steed before he prays to whatever higher power is willing to hear his prayers. And if his prayers had gone unheard, he’ll try and tear both heaven and earth apart just to get back to you.

Twisting his horse’s reins wildly, Link has the sudden urge to scream as his mind comes up with nothing regarding your location. Or where you remains rested. The haunting thought curls around his heart and squeezes harshly causing his breath to abruptly hitch.
He urges his steed to stop as a sudden wetness falls on his hands, he thinks it’s rain but when Link finally snaps out of his miserable daze, he realizes it’s his tears that are falling onto his hands.
“Where are you, my love?” Link questions hoarsely to himself and before he can curl himself to sob the grief and pain taking hold of his heart, a twinkle of gold catches his eye causing him to raise his head.
A shooting star fragment.
His mind shifts to his memory of meeting you, it was a shooting star fragment that had originally led you to each other. But yet, another memory envelops the hero, one that intensifies the longing bubbling over in his chest.
It was a warm night and he laid soundly in your embrace as you ran your fingers through his locks before you cup his face ever so sweetly. He had been sleeping, waking up to the soothing motions of your nails gently brushing against his scalp and he decided then to continue to pretend to sleep in order to enjoy your comforting touch.
He feels your thumb brush against his cheek ever so softly as you place a saccharine kiss on the tip of his nose. “Darling, do you recall of the first time we met?” You sing softly, almost as if you’re terrified of breaking the tranquil air blanketing the space around you and him.
“Because I do. I recall of our meeting a lot—you stood there, almost frozen in shock at seeing another person chasing the very same star you were. And goddesses, you looked so pretty it hurts. How the starlight cupped your face and painted it in such a celestial glow. You took my breath away the moment I glanced at you and my heart suddenly decided to beat for you.” His heart skips a beat at your confession.
“Maybe in another life, or whenever we’re lost and apart from each other, just like how we had first met, where the shooting star falls, wait there. For I will be waiting for you besides a fallen star fragment, my heart longing for you. I love you, my darling.” You finish before you kiss his forehead.
Link gasps painfully as he snaps out of the memory and before he knows it, he’s quickly urging his horse in the direction the shooting star fragment flew.

He eyes the pillar of light the fragment created and he finds himself in front of the lost woods, the pillar of light seemed to emanate from the central portion of the forest, and without thought or reason, Link throws himself into the foggy maze of the lost woods.
Despite the wild urgency and intense adrenaline flooding his body, he somehow navigates his way through the maze-like paths of the lost woods and finds himself at the entrance of the Korok forest.
Link’s azure eyes are immediately drawn to the empty raised pedestal of rock that holds no Master Sword and a sense of alarm envelops him in an unwanted hug.
His chest convulses unexpectedly as panic sets in, no matter the Master Sword, Link could still find a way to defeat the Calamity with regular weapons but, where were you?
He’s on the brink of losing himself to the raging storm within his mind but the wind rustles the trees’ leaves and branches in a gentle dance, causing a blinding light of blue and gold to flash in his eyes.
Head turning automatically and body lurching forwards in the direction of the two-toned light, the base of the Deku tree comes into view and he sees what his heart most yearned for through the hundred of years he’s slept through and the years before that.
You, sat at the base of the great Deku tree, seemingly enveloped by sleep.
Your eyes are closed as an air of tranquility blankets the space around you, a myriad of flowers blooming with life around you. Link notices vines growing along the Master Sword you embrace, gleaming proudly at its wielder as if it wasn’t drained of light nearly a century ago, as the said vines also caresses the skin of your limbs almost delicately.
Tears blur his ultramarine eyes and Link falls to his knees in front of you. He then gently removes the vines adorning your body as his eyes scan your body.
You’re still as beautiful as day the calamity had fallen and he feels the familiar warmth and happiness you always bring hug him the most spectacular ways that’d make his cheeks flush a rosy hue and his stomach flutter sweetly.
His tears finally fall as Link painfully musters a wobbly smile. He cups your face with his calloused hands, seasoned with danger and adventure, a stark contrast to your unsullied, pure skin.
Thumb rubbing against your cheekbone, Link leans his forehead against yours. “I’m sorry for making you wait so long, my love.” His voice cracks as pain and vulnerability seep into his tone. “But I’m here—I found you yet again where the shooting star fell.”
“Please, my love, come back to me.”
