I AM SO SCARED FOR ONYX STORM🥲🥲🥲

Something that is so tragic about Iron Flame is Tairn and Sgaeyl’s relationship. And though I am sad for Sgaeyl after Xaden became venin, I am devastated for Tairn.

He valued his mating bond with Sgaeyl more than she did.

Tairn kept Xaden’s secret from Violet in Fourth Wing, about Aretia and the venin and the rebellion. He kept it for Sgaeyl. He told Violet that the only bond more sacred than a dragon and its rider was a dragon and its mate.

But Sgaeyl kept Xaden’s secret about his second signet from Tairn.

I’m not saying Sgaeyl values Xaden more than Tairn, or that Tairn loves Sgaeyl more than she loves him (if dragons love?), but if that isn’t the worst betrayal of the series so far, I don’t know what is.

Violet: What are you, 5?

Ridoc: Yeah, 5 heads taller than you.

Violet:

Ridoc:

Ridoc: I’m sorry, don’t kill me.

Violet: can I have some of your M&M's?

Xaden:

Xaden: There's one rule.

Violet: Xaden, could you do a small favour for me?

Xaden: I would kill for you but go on.

I hope one day we get to see a Tairn and Andarna conversation without Violet 🫶🏻

i saw a lot of complaints about RY's writing of Violet and how she's supposed to be extremely intelligent, and blah blah blah they were rude and felt like RY didn't know how to pull that off so she instead made all the other characters dumb instead of making Violet smart. look, as a writer, complaints like that are hard to see. I'm writing a geormione fic, hermione POV, and lemme just say, nothing makes me feel more dumb than trying to write an intelligent character. i personally feel like there's no one way to do it correctly, bc i know ms. hermione granger is lightyears smarter than i am. just treat writers with kindness, we already are our own biggest critics, we don't need your disapproval too <3

I also love the idea of 20 year old Lilith, full of justice and free of spirit, coming into her power and ready to level the playing field— to liberate Navarre from the venin threat. Is she read in to the secret before her peers? Does her signet give her top secret clearance? The hopes for her future are high. Yes the stakes are real, but she is the balance.

Only to end in tragedy when she realizes before her 21st birthday that she’s nothing— nothing compared to the strength of Theophanie.

Every time she wields, she hears the taunts of the venin Sage, telling her she’s not good enough. Every accomplishment in the Navarre army— empty. Hollow.

Each of her children’s births— swallowing the all-consuming fear that she couldn’t protect them if Theophanie came knocking.

The weight is crushing, actually. Oh, it hurts.

“She’s their answer to my mother.” — “She was the answer to me,” Theophanie hisses, and the clouds start to swirl.

“Your mother knew at your age that she was no match for me. That’s why she hid behind those wards. Perhaps you should have followed her example.”

I'm sorry, all I got from this was that those two were in a cat-and-mouse game for 30+ years, which could mean nothing...

What is the purpose of Brennan using the alias of Lieutenant Colonel Aisereigh? Who all knows exactly who he is? Because these rebellion kids from the battle at Resson don’t seem surprised he’s Brennan Sorrengail. Did ALL the rebellion kids at Basgiath know her brother was alive?

I’m seeing so many Onyx Storm reviews the past few days where people talk about how confusing and scatterbrained the writing was and I didn’t feel like it was at all? Like there were parts that I was a bit confused because we’re supposed to be along with Violet, but it wasn’t to the point where I felt like I understood nothing and nothing made sense.

Then I was thinking, maybe it’s because I’m adhd and it’s just written and paced in a way that works for my neurospicy brain😅

I know Rebecca Yarros is adhd too, so maybe it’s something to that? But also, this was the third book in a five book series. If we got all the answers in this one that would just not make sense?

Everyone’s different, and every experience is valid, I’ve just been seeing a lot of this late and couldn’t relate at all😅

This one was so good! I’ve seen in around on booktok and here on insta and I just hadn’t gotten around to it yet, but boy am I glad I did! I tore through it like two days, I couldn’t put it down, I just wanted to know what would happen next.

I’m obsessed with Xaden, talk about a shadow daddy🥵

I loved how Violet grew throughout. I love that she has a chronic illness, made me relate to her more cause I have one too (not the same one, but one where accommodations sometimes need to be made for me to do the things I want or have to do) so that was great.

I liked the relationships both platonic and romantic ones. And the mysteries were intriguing.

Tairn was hilarious, love him and Andarna is precious and must be protected at all costs🥺❤️

That ending had me shook! Didn’t see it coming. There were a lot of things I did see coming throughout the book, but that ending, no. It was surprising for me.

5/5 for me. I had a great time reading it.

Fourth Wing Yap Sesh PT. 2

Omg lowkey surprised anyone saw the first post and I kinda got excited to seee that but anyways heres my little review on the plot of Fourth Wing.

One of my favorite things about Fourth Wing is the amount of cliches that are used but instead of being like "ew again", it's more of a "they're so real for that."

Okay so first off, I like how in the first few moments they've already established the Sorrengail family dynamic off-rip. Mom is the absolute hard-ass, dead dad and brother combo, loving elder sister that mom respects and the kind of put to the side youngest sister that's underestimated cliche but I like it. It makes every action these characters take feel soo believable and realistic to me. Then the whole sisterly advice of staying away from the enemy, is intriguing, bc ouu who is this enemy why does he want Violet dead. Also the added humor of them talking about not screwing your superiors, realistic sibling convo tbh.

Jumping to the parapet scenes, man this really sets the tone of "Everything is dangerous," but at the same time, it was confusing. If the goal is to get as many cadets as possible to be riders so you can fight the looming threat (which hadn't been mentioned by this point if I remember correctly it's been about 2 months since I read the book). Then why are we making it as hard as possible to keep these cadets alive? I highly doubt that weeding out the weak is an answer especially if were crunched on numbers but I digress.

Violet seeing Xaden for the first time, my first thought was "Girl what is Rhysand doing here lmaoooo". I feel like we need to get more creative with our male love interest descriptions (WHERE THE FINE RED HEADS AT). Violent wanting to climb him is so real but at the same time Violet baby we gotta lock in were about to walk across a casm of death. Also, Barlowe throwing a kid off for WHAT. I think he's one of those kids who were bullied, hit puberty, then made everyone else's life hell. I too would be mad at the world if I was allergic to oranges.

After essentially killing potential cadets for no reason, they lined em up to sort em out, flex their dragons, and kill more of em. Granted, they definitely should not have run. Also if the man who I know wants me dead suddenly moved my squad under his wing I'd be fully shaking in my boots. Forget the fact that he's sexy he now has easier access to kill her and I wouldn't count on Dain to help at all. ATP they've shown that cadets are dispensable id sleep with an eye open.

I vibe heavily with the sparring scenes it's my fav part of any fantasy or dystopian book. Imogen absolutely GUNNING for Violet off rip, I hand it to Vi for not giving in though.

Over Violets time as Basigath I enjoyed reading about but I really ended up being completely uninterested until the gauntlet. The tension with Violet, Dain and Xaden honestly did nothing for me personally, I found myself more interested in the dragons, and how their riders' powers correlate. But I really liked the gauntlet as it showcased how SMART Violet is, she took something that was, realistically, nearly impossible for her to do, and she made it work. Why Amber was so mad about it I have no clue why, like its not cheating if anything you should be amazed at how inventive this cadet is like we should be PRAISING THIS.

Them being presented to the dragons was a key moment for me, Violet panicking bc she thought Ridoc got torched and he essentially just goes "Well ANYWAYS." Top tier.

Their actual bonding with dragons was another moment. Essentially Tairn was not going to bond at all but he was like well this one defended a feather tail, who probably could have bitten their heads off if she wanted to, might as well bond ig lmfaoo. Tairn is top tier. Also, I peeped that Andarna was a baby dragon right away, bc what do you mean, "no one ever seen a baby dragon," and "no one ever bonds with feathertails." I feel like at some point a scribe should have caught on.

Skipping to everyone getting their signets, I didn't understand why that one dude had to die for reading thoughts but Dain can just touch someone and see what they know, get fundamentally why they did it but??????????????????? Yall obviously do not care ab winning the battle if you gonna kill every cadet. Also why had no one discharged Barlowe for KILLING at least a quarter of first years pls, like why is he just allowed to do this?

About Violet and Xadens relationship, they piss me off lol. They remind me of that one couple in high school that are toxic and should NOT be together and they make it everyone else's problem. Only this is worse they are adults and have powers. I love them separately but together they just annoy me, I might be alone in this and that's fine by me. "I can't separate feelings from sex." Girl fuck feelings you could die the next day!!!! I will say though Violence being her nickname made me chuckle i feel like there are at least seven people (considering most of the cadets are dead atp lol) that are scarier than her.

Also fuck Dain.

While I liked Fourth Wing I feel like some parts dragged I could'nt find myself overly interested until Liam nearly died and Violet absolutely DEMOLISHED Barlowe (thank god). From here it picked up. Imma make this last part quick bc im typing this in class as we speak, but!!!

Xaden and the others have their own separate movement? Predictable, are they working with the gryphon fliers? Now admittedly it should have been obvious when they talked about dragons already knowing the wards were gonna fail but for me, it was an afterthought kind of thing. Dain reading Vi's memories? I. Fucking. Knew it! Slimey bitch.

Aretia being rebuilt? Ngl it's very unrealistic to me that no one is checking to make sure that place stayed rubble. Most mfs would have made a momument out of it for Navvare that's just lazyyy. Brennnan being alive? Man, I knew it. The millisecond that interaction happened with Xaden and Violet she was like "Well you killed my brother so we even," and he said "Hardly." I knew. Bc that is such an intentional word to use with someone who is grieving her dead brother and you say "hardly?" Yeah, I knew Brennan wasn't dead right then and there.

Anyway, I'm going to wrap this review up here because I really need to lock in in class, lol. Overall, out of 5, I gave the fourth wing a 2.5. In my mind, this isn't a bad score; I just wasn't as personally engaged in it as I would have liked to be.

Now I've already finished Iron flame and that will be next so hopefully like a week from now I'll be posting about that.

THE ENDING? HELLO?!

Can someone please explain the ending of iron flame

I was speed reading and I could not understand the last three chapters and I refuse to read it again

I felt this. That quote was a gut wrench. Every parent-child relationship is complex, and the love was there. This book series captures so many aspects of love with it's characters.

***Iron Flame SPOILERS****

I am so incredibly disappointed with what everyone is choosing to talk about with this book. Everyone is concentrating on what happens with Xaden but you know what to me was the absolute most gut wrenching storyline in the whole book? General Lilith Fucking Sorrengail.

From the moment we see her again in the beginning of the book she is nothing but supportive and proud of her daughter. Yes, she absolutely made the wrong decision where she stands in the war, and what she did to Xaden was absolutely inexcusable. (Although I do think if she hadn’t done that they would have killed all the marked ones.) But she made all those decisions for her children. Because she did what she needed to to keep them safe. You can’t convince me that even after Violet leaves, that even after Mira leaves, that she wasn’t incredibly thankful for the fact they were together and with Xaden who would never let something happen to Violet.

Lilith went into the dungeons to get her daughter out of there and I am not unconvinced that had Violet not already been mid rescue the General wouldn’t have turned traitor right there to get her out. The scene when Brennen reveals himself to her?? She’s cracking and can hardly hold herself together and my heart felt so sorry for her in that moment. It made me mad at Brennan because he threw it in her face like ammo when Violet spent all of fourth wing describing how his death ruined their mother.

One of the most heart breaking quotes in the whole book is at the beginning of chapter 65:

“Most generals dream of dying in service to their kingdom. But you know me better than that, my love. When I fall, it will be for one reason only: to protect our children.”

General Sorrengail didn’t support the war, she didn’t fight for Navarre she made it clear fron the beginning that she was just a mom protecting her kids, and she did so without second thought. Without hesitation. She didn’t do what she did for the war effort, or even to help everyone on the battlefield. She did it for Brennen, and Violet, and Mira.

Lilith Sorrengail was just a desperate mother and everyone glossing over her sacrifice is bullshit.

"ask the right questions" "lying is easy, except when it come to violet" "nothing is more dangerous than a truth slayer" yada yada)

xaden is NOT unbonded from sgaeyl, our queen is just REALLY REALLY PISSED (this MAY refute the naolin's still alive theory, but there was another instance where she was asked if dragons can CHOOSE to unbond a rider and RY was like 😗😋🥰)

this is small & we already know this, but violet's hair will come up in the later books (mysterious disapearing silver haired venin???)
