You found yourself tossing and turning in bed, acknowledging it wasn't worth it when the brink of sleep escaped you yet again.
It became sort of a habit now, not being able to sleep and instead turning to wander the never-ending halls of Hogwarts. This habit started multiple years ago already. It was calming, in a sense. So many things, friend groups and professors changed in the time you were here, but you could always fall back on this, it never changed.
Whenever you snuck out of your dorm, it was clear you probably weren't gonna be able to fall asleep, but it was worth it for that moment of peace. Nothing could compare to it.
Your roommates grew used to those habits by now, you were thankful for their understanding even though you didn't really talk to them, to no one at Hogwarts, really.
Your brother always gushed about how amazing Hogwarts was, including the people. Whenever he came back for summer break you were instantly prepared for the flood of information you would get from him, he graduated a few years ago already, but you still looked back on how excited he was to share everything with you, yet you never really understood it.
Yes, Hogwarts really was a magical place, all the magic in that place sometimes even felt overwhelming. But you never actually fit into a certain group, you were quiet, always observing, people thought you were scheming things. As if. The only thing which could keep a mind occupied was astronomy, often lost in your own star constellations.
Opening the door of your dorm and stepping out quietly, the slight breeze from outside felt welcoming. You quietly tip-toed across the wooden floorboards in the common room, the only sound that could be heard was the quiet crackling of the fire no one ever really bothered to put out. You stopped for a moment, leaning against the cold walls and sighing. Not getting sleep so frequently really wasn't healthy, and it wasn't helping your academic scores either, but there was nothing you could do. You didn't want to ask Madam Pomfrey for more sleeping draughts, not wanting to admit to her, and yourself, that you really weren't getting better, but rather, worse.
Rising up from your slouched position against the wall, you slowly set out to the halls, occasionally sliding across the floor boards because of your socks, careful not to make unnecessary noise. Stepping out of the portrait hole, you continued your march down the endless stairs. The portraits were now empty, it was unusually quiet, but your pace never faltered.
Stepping out into the empty halls always felt so freeing, it was so quiet you could probably hear a pin drop. Because of this, every time your joints cracked, you mentally cursed your old man bones. The sound always spread across the hall in waves, leaving behind a slight echo for a short while.
From wandering out here so often, you knew almost every inch and corner of Hogwarts like the back of your hand. Being acquaintances with a prefect made it even easier, you knew who and where people were on patrol. You have basically memorised their schedules for your sake. It was a lot later after their rounds that you usually got out. But it wasn't common to see two prefects getting carried away doing,,, whatever really.
As you continued your stroll through the halls, you couldn't help but admire the candles floating around you, the candlelight always casted a soft glow around the place, it was pleasant to look at. If you focused on the lights for longer, you’re pretty sure the soft tap of steps around the corner would have gone unnoticed.
Before anyone can catch you, you quickly slid behind a statue with practiced ease. It was close, the steps now turned the corner and you notice it is a few pairs, probably close to three, accompanied by murmuring among the three.
“I find it hard to believe he just left in the middle of the night unprompted.”
the steps came to a halt, you could hear the conversation clearer now.
“Maybe he just needed time to himself?” a weaker, squeakier voice replied.
“Oh come on, you know Moony and his wolfiness, but he definitely would have had a reason.” a third, deeper voice said, accompanied by a chuckle.
“It's not impossible, but don’t you think it would have to be something serious for him to leave? Just like that? He never does that, he would probably wake Sirius if he needed someone.”
A collective sigh came from the three, the steps could be heard picking up again, in the direction of the stairs you came from earlier.
There it was, three boys, one with insanely messy short hair and his signature glasses, the second one with shoulder-length hair, which he cut a bit shorter after summer, and the last, short blonde boy who you shared Transfiguration with.
You knew them, of course you did. They were in the same house for Merlin’s sake, you never really spoke to any of them though. Their presence was loud and lively, there was never a beat of silence when they were around, which didn't really match you well.
You snapped out of your short daze to see them already long gone, stepping out from behind the statue and making your mind up on where to go next.
You had already known you would probably end up here, as you sauntered up the stairs of the astronomy tower, your steps making next to no noise, as you knew which stairs creaked and which didn't (with a lot of trial and error). Moving along the stairs with ease, you stopped dead in your tracks at the top. You heard a soft sound, it was a sob. You held your breath in anticipation if anyone was here, or if it was just your imagination. Then you heard another one, a quieter one. Holding your breath and turning to where the sound was coming from, your heart nearly shattered into pieces.
A boy, probably in your year as well, was sitting in the corner, back turned away from you. The sight was heartbreaking, he was shaking, the sobs could only be described as broken, sounding choked back, like if someone was fighting them really hard but could not keep it in anymore.
You stood like a deer in headlights, unsure of what to do. Would they tell on you for being here so late at night? Should you just leave them alone? Your heart melted into a puddle of sympathy and sadness, knowing they probably needed someone right now. You slowly made your way over to him and gently sat down by his right side. The boy noticed your presence, the sobs quieting down almost immediately.
You spoke first, your voice quiet in an attempt to not startle the boy more than your presence already has. “You go out here often?”
Turning to face the boy, you could see his eyes tinted red from crying, he sniffled. “Don't worry, i won't tell on you, i go here almost nightly myself” No response. “If you want, I can go. Everyone needs time to themself, and I am just now realizing I probably interrupted a time you wanted to be alone in, considering you went all the way here” You hurriedly blurted out, standing up so you can go again. This was probably shaping up to be one of the really awkward moments you would replay before sleep.
“Wait” you turned to face the boy “I-I, plea-” His voice cracked. “Please don't leave.” He said with a hint of urgency in his voice.
You made eye contact with him, his brown eyes standing out even in the midst of the night. “Okay, I'll stay. I didnt wanna go back down there anyway, you’re Remus, right?” The boy nodded in response. “Your friends were looking for you, I overheard them on my way here. They sounded pretty worried.” You said as you sat down, at arms length to the boy. He sighed, “Yeah, that sounds pretty much like them. I can't blame them though, I have been a bit off recently that they for sure noticed it.”
You chuckled, “Well I'm not gonna be prying any information from you.” Laying down on your back, you looked out to the starry sky. “Do you know anything about the stars?” Remus followed you, laying on his back next to you. He was glad you weren't looking at him, he for sure looked like a mess, teary eyes and messy hair. He ran a hand through his hair and wiped at his eyes again. “Uh- Padfoot- sorry, Sirius sometimes talks about them, but i don't know much ... Not like I wouldn't be interested! I just, never really had the chance.”
You tried to suppress a chuckle at his stumbling, ultimately failing to do so, earning you a glare from Remus and a soft kick to your shin. “Ah! My heart! And my leg! Remus, you have deeply wounded me!” You sprawled out on the floor, dramatically putting your hand over your heart, failing to suppress the smile from his shenanigans. “And here I thought no one could surpass the dramatics of Sirius Black, I think he now has great competition” He turned to you, with a slight smile, only illuminated by the light of the moon and stars. The change in his mood was sudden, but not unwelcome. You were just happy it seemed that his mind wasn’t lingering on whatever upset him earlier.
“Well good thing for you-” you said as you pointed your finger at him accusingly “I heed great knowledge about astronomy! And for someone so uncultured, I could possibly spare some time of the day so that he may learn all about it!” He sighed, the smile on his face growing wider “Tell me, just what can I do to stop you from talking like… this?” You grinned and looked back to the sky, replying “Ah, does my prosperous vocabulary trouble you?, I guess I can tone it down a little..”
The night was spent pointing out constellations and curious questions being thrown both ways. You wondered how you managed to avoid Remus for so long, seeing as you both spent time in the same places, and your interests overlapped seemingly everywhere. Unbeknownst to you, Remus felt the same. He found it easy to be in your presence. He knew the rest of his little group would endlessly question him about his whereabouts when he got back to them, but he didn’t seem to care about that, or anything else at the moment.
You completely drowned out his worries and he’d be damned if he let another opportunity slip through his fingers, simply because he felt unworthy.

The brick wall of the pub you had previously occupied was pressing into your cheek as your boyfriend pounded into you from behind. He had one hand gripped in your hair, the other holding your hip to bring you back into his thrusts.
You had not imagined your night to go this way. In fact, you were expecting to go out for a few drinks with everyone and head home to watch a muggle film you were craving to see. But as the night went on James and Sirius pressed more drinks into Remus’ hands than he realized. While the boys were sat at the bar (getting your poor boyfriend wasted) you, Lily, and Marlene were making haste on the dance floor.
The liquor was intense and the room was spinning around you as you jumped and danced. You glanced towards the boys and saw them all laughing unnecessarily loud. You grabbed Marlene’s arm and shouted you were going to get another drink. She merely nodded and kept dancing.
As you approached the bar Remus caught sight of you. He blushed and sent a smirk your way. His hair was tousled and his eyes glazed over from the drinks he’d been consuming.
“Jesus, you poor bloke you’re truly wasted.” You sighed as you neared him.
Sirius spat out a laugh and James just smiled into his drink and shrugged his shoulders. Remus grabbed your waist when you were within reach and placed his head on your shoulder. He inhaled you and caged you into his arms. You wrapped your arm around him in return and placed your head atop his.
“God you two are awful to look at. Keep it in your pants will you?” Sirius made a crude vomiting gesture and you swatted at him in return.
“Oi! Y/N watch the hair!”
“You’re a bloody menace you know that?”
Remus laughed into your neck and squeezed your waist. “Don’t bother with him love, he’s just jealous” Remus grinned at Sirius.
Sirius only rolled his eyes and tossed back the rest of his drink. “Well, I’m off to find a lovely bloke on the dance floor then.”
James slapped him on the back as he made his way toward the swell of people and music. He turned his gaze to you and Remus and said, “He’s right, you two truly are disgusting.”
“Piss off,” Remus laughed “as if you and your precious Lilyflower aren't any worse.”
“James I believe quite literally last weekend poor Lily had to peel you off of her before you mauled her in front of everyone.” You added.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” He waved your comments off, but a smile spread across his cheeks.
James caught the bartender's attention and ordered you all more drinks. Remus took the opportunity to move his hands to the backs of your thighs and deceitfully run them up toward the hem of your skirt. You hummed at his actions and gripped his shoulders. He nudged his head back to your neck and placed light kisses against your throat. The drinks running through you made his actions all the more intense.
James spun back around with yours and Remus’ drinks in hand. He handed them to you as he sipped his own. You held your drink to your chest as you watched Remus swallow his. His hand around the glass sent heat through you, imagining what else that hand had done. His other hand remained latched to the back of your thigh and when he caught your gaze he squeezed it. He sent you an all-knowing smirk and raised his glass to his lips again. You blushed and tried to push your sexual thoughts from your head, taking a swig from your drink to help.
Luckily, James’ attention was now focused on Lily’s dancing form. Remus noticed this too and swiftly moved his hand to the curve of your ass. You glared at him as he smiled up at you. He moved to stand and placed his glass on the bar top.
“Gonna step out for a smoke, you alright?” He asked James.
James glanced at you both and nodded, “Yeah might head to the dance floor myself.”
Remus stood to his full height and grabbed your drink from your hands placing it next to his. He reached for your hand and started for the door. You glanced back to see James heading to Lily as Remus pulled you along.
The night air was bitter and crisp. You squeezed Remus’ hand as the cold air hit you. He continued to pull you around the side of the pub, and only then did he drop your hand.
He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a cigarette and lighter. He skillfully placed the smoke in his mouth and cupped the lighter as he lit it. You were leaning against the wall as you watched him. When he was sure the thing was lit he inhaled as he pocketed his lighter. He puffed out his smoke and gazed down at you.
“Your dance moves were cute.” He said.
You reached up and took the cigarette from his lips. You kept steady eye contact as you took your own drag from it and replied, “Thanks”.
He huffed a laugh at your teasing and placed his arm above your head on the wall. He peeled the cigarette from your lips and placed it back in his. His eyes were roaming your figure and you could feel your body heating up. You shook your head as you looked up at him and gave him a challenging look.
He took the bait and took one last drag from the joint as he leaned back on his arm and glanced around the corner. As his gaze moved back to you he blew the smoke out. He dropped the cigarette and put it out with his foot. He leaned in close, his mouth centimeters from yours.
He exhaled, “You want this?”
You looked up into his eyes, “Yes.”
That was all he needed to crash his lips to yours. One hand gripped your waist tightly, while the other moved to hold your neck. You pushed your hands against his chest, guiding them up to his hair.
You grabbed at each other and quickly his tongue infiltrated your mouth. Your body was pure heat and you rubbed your legs together to get some relief. Remus noticed and moved his hand between your legs. He cupped your sex and you moaned into his mouth. He smiled and moved his fingers into your underwear.
You gripped his hair as he slid his fingers over your core and gathered your wetness. He rubbed his index and middle finger over your clit and you groaned loudly.
“Shh. You have to be quiet Y/N.” He whispered.
You nodded your head and moved your arm to hold the back of his neck as he slid those two fingers inside you. He fingered you and you held him as near as possible. Your back arched off the cold wall as his fingers speed up. You moved your hand that wasn't around him to his front and palmed him over his jeans. He hissed in pleasure and kissed your lips.
He suddenly removed his hand and grabbed your wrist, spinning you against the wall. Your face pressed into it as you heard him remove his belt. You pushed your ass toward him, the wait unbearable.
“Please” You moaned.
“Patience, darling.” He responded.
He aggressively shoved your skirt over your hips and shoved your soaking underwear to the side. You felt his body heat against yours. He rubbed the head of his shaft against you and down to your clit. Your arm went back to hold onto him.
He pushed his head into your core painfully slow. Your eyes rolled in pleasure as his full length sheathed inside you.
Once he was fully inside your core he waited a moment. His head was thrown back in pleasure and he gripped you tightly. You glanced over your shoulder as he exhaled and grabbed your waist. He thrusted into you and your hand shot to the wall for balance.
His pace picked up and you could feel every inch of him. As he slammed into you he moved one hand to grip your hair. The tug on your roots shot more pleasure and sensations through you. The heat radiating off of your bodies contradicted the cold night air.
Remus pounded into you from behind and you couldn’t help but release a small moan. He was panting and his thursts hit just the right spot. The alcohol in your systems made the situation all the more exhilarating.
Remus pulled your ass fulsh against him and moved his arm fully around your waist to reach your clit. His other arm moved from your hair to around your neck as he pulled you upright against him.
His fingers moved skillfully around your bud, and in combination with his rough, heavy thrusts you were close.
“I’m gonna cum” You mumbled.
Remus groaned and muttered an “I’m close” as well.
His fingers sped up around your clit and you could feel the familar tingle of an orgasm. He moaned into your ear and whispered “You’re so tight. You feel so good.”
His affirmations sent you over the edge. Your core squeezed him as you came. His thruts sped up and your quiet moans mixed together. You felt him slam into you and steady. He came and held you as tightly as he could.
As you both came down from your highs you were panting. Remus pulled out of you and moved your underwear back into place. You spun around in his arms and he pushed the hair from your face as you looked to him. He smiled at you and blushed. He slid his arms down your body and kissed you lightly as he pulled your skirt back over your hips. He adjusted his own self back into his pants and kissed your temple.
“I think that was our best one yet.” You laughed.
Remus laughed in return and grabbed your hand. You walked back around the corner smoothing your hair down. As you reentered the pub your friends were all back at the bar. You made your way over and Sirius sent you both a condescending look.
“Ah. Well look who it is. Have a nice smoke?” He spoke.
Marlene laughed and Lily playfully hit Sirius.
“We did yeah, thanks.” Remus smiled.
You blushed and James laughed at your embarrassment. Remus pulled you into his side and wrapped his arm around you.
He mumbled into your hair, “This was definitely better than watching a film at home.”
You held your drink to your chest as you watched Remus sip his. His hand around the glass sending heat through you, imagining what else that hand had done.
He moved to stand and placed his glass on the bar top.
𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 —send me a shy!reader request for any character (with a plot) and I'll write a >1k drabble
sirius/james introducing shy!reader to remus. and shes just like quiet and in awe, but remus loves it.
luveline's 40k party ☆ tysm for requesting! remus x shy fem!reader
James is used to your personality after months of being your lecture neighbour, unperturbed by your quiet. "It's going to be fun," he promises, handing you a cold glass of cranberry vodka. "They're nice, okay? I won't let anyone irritate you."
He's hosting a party and had the generosity to invite you round early. He's easing you in, so to speak. It took him two weeks of steady Hellos for you to work up the courage to say Hi back, another two weeks for small talk, a month before you felt comfortable speaking to him first. If you're that shy, a party is basically torture.
"It's not about irritating me," you say.
"I know, I'm messing." James lists his head to the left. A second later, there's a knock at the door. "Aha. Wait here, shortcake, there's someone I want you to meet."
"James," you say after him, wet from your glass leaking down to your sleeve, "what?"
"I asked him to come early and say hello! He's quiet and handsome and you'll love him, just don't stare at his nose."
What's wrong with his nose? you think, alarmed.
James opens the door. Two new voices emerge, one scratchy and a little high, the other smoother. "I need to pee so bad," the scratchy one declares, followed by bounding footsteps up the stairs.
"You alright?" the smoother asks.
You think there's patting, a hug, "I'm brilliant! You smell really nice, Remus, like a garden."
"Lovely."
"In a good way! Come and meet my Y/N, you remember I told you about her nice gel pens?"
James leads the smooth-voiced Remus into the living room. You hurriedly put down your drink and stand, wiping your wet hands in your shirt. You cringe at the darkening fabric but hide your grimace as they stop in front of you.
"Remus, Y/N. Y/N, Remus," James introduces you both.
Remus has a scar across his nose that seems cruelly cut. There's another beside it that starts in his upper lip, both of which end in his eyebrow. You know how self-conscious it feels to be looked at, so you manage to smile and offer your hand without too much of it. He's handsome with his scars, a nice nose with a ridge and brown eyes the colour of caramelised sugar.
"Hello," Remus says, shaking your hand. His is big enough to make yours feel small.
"I invited her early because she's more fun than the rest of our lot," James says, throwing himself down on the sofa and kicking his legs out on the coffee table.
Remus taps your elbow very gently as if to usher you to sit and sits down beside you, enough space to be casual but too little to stop the rampant nerves that blossom in your stomach.
Remus asks about your life. What you're studying, where you're from, if James is being nice to you. While James is touchy in the rough older brother way, scrunching your shoulder and shaking you when you're not expecting it. Remus is touchy in a different way, you find, almost as if he doesn't know he's doing it. His shoe bumps your shoe, his hand falls down between his outer thigh and your own, his knuckles touching your jeans very lightly. He spins in his seat to talk to you.
You don't notice other people arriving, nor the scratchy-voiced friends return. All you can do is look up at Remus with wide eyes. Your nerves meld to something warmer.
"And what do you do?" you ask him.
He smiles like you've wandered into a secret. "I'm trying to write a book."
"He's being a bit much," Sirius says to James, the two now loitering in the doorway with matching beers. You and Remus chatter on, unaware of their running commentary.
"It's a very strong reaction. I knew she'd like him, but I didn't think she'd like him like that." James takes a sip of his drink. Remus asks you a quiet question. You duck your head, playing with your sleeves, and Remus, the bastard, ducks his head to follow your gaze, smiling at you all the while.
James almost chokes, pointing his bottle toward you both as though Sirius isn't already looking. "He's eating it up. I forgot how flirty he is."
"She'll be nice to him, won't she?" Sirius asks, like it's a done deal. To be fair, Remus seems enthralled with you.
"Definitely. She's very nice. Oh, look, that's sick, she's gonna pass out." James winces as Remus takes your arm into his hand.
Remus wouldn't do anything cruel, but James wasn't joking when he told Remus that you were exceedingly, achingly shy. He's about to step in and rescue you, but you turn into Remus' touch and pull your leg up on the sofa to make yourself comfortable. Your voice is animated, if quieter than the average person's.
"Woah," James says, beaming.
Remus flirts almost as a defence, like he wants to get the rejection over and done with so he can move on. You've yet to reject; you're looking up at him in moderate awe, your lips quirked into an easy smile.
"Boo!" James calls, flicking his bottle cap at Remus, who brushes it away. "Took me three weeks to get a smile out of her," he mutters. "What a dick."
